You should also take into account how much moonmoon does for his community. He has a D&D website that is managed by one of his mods, he pays all of the DMs to run things smoothly, he pays for a few other community servers that require discord white-listing among other things he pays roughly $200 per emote he uses that are community submissions, gives prize money for discord only tournaments and so on. Not only not taking sponsorships, but also being a sponsor for his community.
you also have to remember that most of these streamers are dedicating their entire young adult- adult life to creating these streams. Some of these 1 percenters are sacrificing college degrees or early careers in hopes to make a successful career on twitch/content creation. They don’t really have much to fall back on because even if they did get a college degree, they are either too old or inexperienced to start a new career. So they should be doing as much as they can to make money for the 5 years that they will be relevant (obviously their are outliers I am assuming this is when most popular streamers will die out). These streamers essentially have a money grab for a couple years where they have to make a large amount of wealth where they can either develop long term investments or have enough to support them in case they cannot find a sustainable job after their Twitch career is over.
@Jason Neeson No. Top 0.1% streamers is like 1-5K viewers.. Do you realise that for every streamer with 1000 viewers, theres probably a thousand streamers with less than 50 viewers? Lol

xSkj no.. like they have a big RUclips audience. No one types emotes, no one does anything twitch related, just a bunch of RUclips users using twitch to watch their fav streamer
xSkj yeah no I’m a YT watcher too. It really just depends on who you watch if you’re a normie or not. You use BTTV and FrankerZ you’re already better than most
The most important thing to take away is that these streamers are the exception, not the rule. Mostly like youtube. How the top 1% make the majority of ad revenue. The one thing I noticed is that ad revenue for gaming content is very low. It tends to hover under $5 cpm right now
do this for ninja when he was still on twitch he made millions just from twitch then he had all these sponsors millions more then his channel which is millions more

Hi Devin, new fan here. Your content is very insightful. If you want to get yearly calculation summing weeks, not all months have 4 of them. But you can always multiply 52 weeks a year. Therefore, you were calculating Pokimane's RUclips video earnings as $1,500 per video, 2 videos per week. That gives $1,500 x 2 x 52 = $156,000
I can practically hear certain people yelling “Ahhhhh someone shut Devin up!!!” in the distance. Love this information we get here, especially because no one else would say the things you do.
It’s more for long term because they don’t know how often twitch or RUclips will last and the more money you make the more that they can save for the future
Great video, I'd love to see a breakdown of how much a low/mid tier streamer can potentially make. And maybe you give suggestions on how they can monetize better?
subs aren't constant though and many streamers nowadays seem to have a majority or a high amount of gifted subs meaning they will disappear in a month unless someone else does it the month after, also to all the kids saying "Why pay millionaires hur dur I have no braincells" Streamers give their time to entertain followers and their followers appreciate that and contribute to them by either subscribing, donating, watching ads or in general just watching bumping the stream up making more people see it on the front page of twitch ect.
Gifted subs are never gone, they are just replaced by other gifted subs next month by other or the same people to other or the same people. And as for people donating I agree with you, people have various reasons and their rights to pay the millionaires, there's nothing wrong in that, in this video I even saw a message in the chat asking if disabling donations would be a good marketing move. Well yes and no, donations are a way of receiving more money for the streamers, but for the viewers it's a tool to reach the streamer, ask a question, show themselves on the stream etc. There's plenty of people who'd be mad at the decreased interaction if the donations were removed. At the end of the day the donations are not mandatory. If you feel like you have some spare money and it makes you happy to give it to someone who makes you feel better in your free time then why not, just do it. The problem comes with streamers who specifically ASK for donations and use underhanded methods saying it makes it possible for them to be in it fulltime or something, tricking people into thinking they actually make a difference with these donations. It's disgusting. There's a certain streamer who's paypal got hacked and got robbed for $4,000 who made a huge drama over not being able to pay the bills, his wife came in crying that they now have no money for FOOD. He instantly got a $4,000 donation + countless more and people felt bad he might actually have lost his lifetime savings while in the meantime he just lost what he got over a couple hours and 99% of the people never found out and never will. Horrid.
The most disturbing part of this video was the unchecked notifications at the top right. Also, sick vid and much love for Moonmoon. He's told his fan base multiple times that they're enough and that he does very well due to them. Nothing specific but still nice that he was even that honest.
The math is wrong for youtube cuz old videos keep getting views, I u check her social blade she is making an average of 750k views A DAY not 2 times a week...
People do have to remember though that while these Twitch streamers are making loads of money, they're still on the lower end of millionaire status and what they're making is nothing compared to people doing big numbers in fields like investing and business
Any of them with any brains will be investing a good amount of their money anyway since they know twitch/youtube can't last forever. For most of these people they'll maybe be relevant for 5 years then live off those earning for the rest of their lives
man, I'd do the same exact thing that moonmoon would if I had the chance. At a million a year like, that'd just be it, I wouldn't want anything more than to just keep doing what I love and connecting with folks because at that point not only can I eat, I can live on my own, have an actually good phone, legitimately good computer hardware, a good house that's gonna last, the whole kit n kaboodle.
Zybba most big time streamers are from the us, at least the ones in this video. But I agree I was thinking the same thing. How much take home after taxes are they seeing outta 1 mil a year ? 750k? Idk either way it’s more than me lol
@@c2l1e6 you actually forget about something, at least in my country, if you do a big donation you don't have to pay taxes, a lot of streamers do donations days or something like that, the money they win from it is for a donation for a hospital or something
Something my buddy told me who has been streaming for over 4 years. "Streaming is like playing the lottery". Stream for fun and don't expect to get rich out of it. If your build a genuine community and they love spending time with you and you with them that is the best you could hope for.
@木 Companies putting up bounties on Twitch, or "sponsor challenges", for example: "Play our game for 2 hours for 1500$". They can select criteria that the streamer needs to fulfill before being allowed to take the bounty, for example : "average viewers of 5,000 the past 30 days". This way, companies cant put up bounties on a virtual bounty board, and the first streamer to fulfill the requirements and is interested can claim it. Its basically a sponsorship, but without having to personally deal with the streamers
Interesting take on the income side of twitch streaming. While there has been a few people taking about the money streamers make, what are some expenses that they incur? I think the profit margin will still be substaintial, but it'd be interesting to see what artists/agents/etc are paid as well. The whole concept of gross versus net could be very different for streamers compared to other businesses.
Also not including taxes. But yeah, big streamers don't starve. It's the same as millionaire rockstars/actors who constatly remind you that they had a bad childhood 'cause it makes them seem more relatable. And that shit sells
Lowest CPM is about $100 per 100k views so even still for 500k thats $500 and if you upload like 3 videos a week that gets that many views thats still pretty good
Holy that is INSANE! I'd be content with just being able to live independently & my content continuing to make people happy and keep them interested. 😮
pretty insane numbers, Fair play to moon moon but imo take what you can whilst you can, It's really hard to tell if these guys are going to be relevant in X amount of years and also you don't know what's round the corner sometimes life can hit you in shitty ways. Always like your content very interesting topics you have, keep up the good work.
Personally, if I were in that position, I'd probably milk it but only go for sponsors I actually use, approve of, etc. instead of selling out for just anything. I grew up poor (still am), so I'd love to give back to my family, set them up for life, whatever.
Absolutely love your channel Devin. It almost feel like I'm ripping you off because of the amount of free content you put out on a consistent basis. Keep it up man
Where are you getting your numbers for how much RUclips videos make? For anything gaming related, myself and every other RUclipsr I know makes about $70 ish per 100k views. ?
part of the problem with adding it all up and then deducting taxes etc from that net amount is each revenue stream that's added together is taxed first by the company, then by local taxes, and then the net amount is again taxed, likely somewhere between 25-45% (If they're in America).
xqc is out here begging for money at a carnival. you can do this easily yourself just find his sub count and change the first number. that should give you an idea.
@@gus8426 streamers pay more in taxes because they are independent contractors, taxes get taken out of every ones pay checks , but streamers / youtubers have to calculate that figure either quarterly or at the end of the year.
specially if you live in california, that extra 10% state tax can add up to almost half of your money being yonked. it is no wonder a lot of streamers got to texas, where there is no state income tax.
ya'll enjoy giving your money away to people that really don't need it? my take on this, when your fav streamer gets to a point where they are sponsored making +1M a year, consider supporting smaller streamers instead. they need your support far more.
Creators want to seem approachable and come across as regular people. But the reality is they're not. They might have a fun looking little stream space in their home, but if they panned the camera around and showed you the rest of the space, I think in most cases it would be extremely different. We've seen glimpses of that in some of Ninja's videos, his house is not at all like his stream studio. Which isn't modest, either, but the bits of the rest of his house that we've seen, it's a mansion, with old traditional architecture and decor. He's a wealthy man, as are many streamers, and they work hard to hide that so their audience still feels compelled to give them more money.
I have full respect for moonmoon that's why he gets my twitch sub. All these other streamers have half the screen covered by shit ads. Like playing a garbage mobile game that they say they play all the time but we never see them play again.

More than enough I don’t even need to watch this
bro you have me listening to your vids like a podcast for 2 hours
You should also take into account how much moonmoon does for his community. He has a D&D website that is managed by one of his mods, he pays all of the DMs to run things smoothly, he pays for a few other community servers that require discord white-listing among other things he pays roughly $200 per emote he uses that are community submissions, gives prize money for discord only tournaments and so on.
Not only not taking sponsorships, but also being a sponsor for his community.
I tune in to your videos here on YT for insight on these industries especially since I’m now in this space starting out
The streamer gestapo bout to take u out for releasing all the streamer secrets
you also have to remember that most of these streamers are dedicating their entire young adult- adult life to creating these streams.
IWillDominate who is a mid-level streamer at best clears about $600k per year. He's got a video about it on his channel.

I don't even know who moonmoon is. How much of a twitch normie am I?

@@GoldenEmpireProductions guess I'm not a normie, but carson streams on Twitch, as far as i know

@@GoldenEmpireProductions It's kinda complicated for me, I'm more of a YT user, but I _do_ use BTTV and FFZ on Twitch

The most important thing to take away is that these streamers are the exception, not the rule.
Mostly like youtube. How the top 1% make the majority of ad revenue.
The one thing I noticed is that ad revenue for gaming content is very low. It tends to hover under $5 cpm right now
It depends on the game itself as a more advertising friendly game would have a better cpm then a mature title game

Love this information we get here, especially because no one else would say the things you do.
exact same video with exact same info was already done by disguisedtoast last year
You're videos are great man, keep up the great work !
as a "streamer" idc about how much money i have, i just wanna make enough so my mom never has to work another day in her life. thats my goal.

Dakotaz (dark) just mention, in his stream, that his tik tok clip with him, tim and drlupo gave him 30k.
It’s more for long term because they don’t know how often twitch or RUclips will last and the more money you make the more that they can save for the future
Great video, I'd love to see a breakdown of how much a low/mid tier streamer can potentially make. And maybe you give suggestions on how they can monetize better?
@@shrector123 gotta respect the hustle
fuck im in a path of ur videos that I have been watching for hours. Your videos are so interesting and good!
subs aren't constant though and many streamers nowadays seem to have a majority or a high amount of gifted subs meaning they will disappear in a month unless someone else does it the month after, also to all the kids saying "Why pay millionaires hur dur I have no braincells" Streamers give their time to entertain followers and their followers appreciate that and contribute to them by either subscribing, donating, watching ads or in general just watching bumping the stream up making more people see it on the front page of twitch ect.
Nothing specific but still nice that he was even that honest.
those unchecked notifications are just from twitch prime not actual people. he only really has 1 unchecked notification.
The math is wrong for youtube cuz old videos keep getting views, I u check her social blade she is making an average of 750k views A DAY not 2 times a week...
He did say he was being conservative in the calculation. Even underestimating the amounts, it is still an exorbitant amount of money lol
Devin you pick the right topics my man!
People do have to remember though that while these Twitch streamers are making loads of money, they're still on the lower end of millionaire status and what they're making is nothing compared to people doing big numbers in fields like investing and business
It doesn’t matter if they are in the lower end, they have enough money for them not to struggle in life and get basically what ever they want
Mentions Ninja once at the VERY end of the video and has him on the thumbnail LUL
This was fascinating. I always love this kind of stuff.
Interesting video!
I just find it strange that your never mentioned taxes. Even though they might vary heavily from country to country.
@@wackierbean9744 Well in that case it's not money they're making is it? Lol

Something my buddy told me who has been streaming for over 4 years. "Streaming is like playing the lottery".
Stream for fun and don't expect to get rich out of it. If your build a genuine community and they love spending time with you and you with them that is the best you could hope for.
your content is top tier, thank you
He didnt even bring up bounties which can be crazy.
bounty deez nuts nigga
@木
Companies putting up bounties on Twitch, or "sponsor challenges", for example: "Play our game for 2 hours for 1500$".
The whole concept of gross versus net could be very different for streamers compared to other businesses.
that guy just calculated gross pay, if we don't count federal taxes, medicare taxes and net pay cuts.
Social Security 0.78% $343
Medicare 2.18% $963
still comes to about $65,000 a month.
@@jaydenjackson3193 Still dont see no taxes that will be around 35%

Also not including taxes. But yeah, big streamers don't starve.
It's the same as millionaire rockstars/actors who constatly remind you that they had a bad childhood 'cause it makes them seem more relatable. And that shit sells
TLDR - the top streamers make a LOT of money
Lowest CPM is about $100 per 100k views so even still for 500k thats $500 and if you upload like 3 videos a week that gets that many views thats still pretty good

Where are you getting your numbers for how much RUclips videos make? For anything gaming related, myself and every other RUclipsr I know makes about $70 ish per 100k views.
?
this mans a 5Head
part of the problem with adding it all up and then deducting taxes etc from that net amount is each revenue stream that's added together is taxed first by the company, then by local taxes, and then the net amount is again taxed, likely somewhere between 25-45% (If they're in America).

at the same time they are also paying 6 figures in taxes
As everyone else with that income, so?
twitch_tv_pat coming from an rich family. Taxes is not a problem tbh
@@gus8426 streamers pay more in taxes because they are independent contractors, taxes get taken out of every ones pay checks , but streamers / youtubers have to calculate that figure either quarterly or at the end of the year.
@@twitch_tv_pat depends on where you live
@@HamCentral thats why a lot of streamers moved to texas, because of the taxes.
Why at tge end of your videos does the music ho over the convo?
taxes though
specially if you live in california, that extra 10% state tax can add up to almost half of your money being yonked. it is no wonder a lot of streamers got to texas, where there is no state income tax.
ya'll enjoy giving your money away to people that really don't need it? my take on this, when your fav streamer gets to a point where they are sponsored making +1M a year, consider supporting smaller streamers instead. they need your support far more.
I wish I was this lucky and rich
Creators want to seem approachable and come across as regular people. But the reality is they're not. They might have a fun looking little stream space in their home, but if they panned the camera around and showed you the rest of the space, I think in most cases it would be extremely different. We've seen glimpses of that in some of Ninja's videos, his house is not at all like his stream studio. Which isn't modest, either, but the bits of the rest of his house that we've seen, it's a mansion, with old traditional architecture and decor. He's a wealthy man, as are many streamers, and they work hard to hide that so their audience still feels compelled to give them more money.
true af, also remember ninja got like 100m from his deal, also the streamer code from fortnite that kids used he is insanely rich.
And on top of that, if their a pro fortnite player their making money from tournements ect
