@horn That's because Devin is focusing on the 1000 true believers method. I.E: It's better to have 1000 people who really care and will support you every month rather than 10000 people who throw peanuts once. But lets do some real simple math to prove his point: Say you're a channel with 100 subs purely to make the math easy. Lets say that you get 5$ per sub. Lets say you encourage people to use patreon instead of subscriptions. That means you're making 250$ a month because Twitch is taking half of it. If you had the exact same set up(100 subs, 5$/sub) on Patreon you'd be making 425$/month. That's 2.50$/sub on Twitch vs 4.25$/sub on Patreon. The difference is so great that you could lose 41% of your subscribers and still make as much as you were making on Twitch. Every single Patreon sub is worth nearly twice as much as a Twitch sub. And that's ignoring the fact you won't actually lose those twitch subs, because the guys with prime will still give you prime if they were doing that anyway. There's literally no downside to a streamer promoting Patreon over Twitch subs.
Even if one were to factor in Twitch Prime subs, to make the same amount of cash from, say, 50 patrons, you'd have to roughly double the amount of people that sub to you on twitch. Sure, twitch is a more convenient way to get subs, but enough so to be able to make up for the amount of cash Twitch takes out of your pocket compared to Patreon? I may have my issues with how Patreon selectively enforces rules, but compared to the absolutely insane way Twitch enforces (or rather chooses not to) rules on top of how much money they take out of your pocket every month, should make it a no brainier to anyone choosing between the two.
