    This video is a short talk about success. This is the best advice I have on self improvement and achieving actual, real success so far. It's a reflection of my thoughts on the issue and a lot of experimentation and practice over the last year.
    When I first started trying to achieve success, I was doing it by setting goals. I always thought goals were the way to become more successful. I didn't realize that goals were another form of procrastination if I didn't spend the time to actually act on them.
    I spent a lot of time watching motivational videos. I looked for answers on RUclips to success in life. I was looking for the truth about success in some book or video. I realized I was never going to find out how to become successful from that.
    I still have goals now, but lofty ones that I have a vague idea of. What I make sure to do is act towards something every day. I spend as much time as possible actually creating a result in the world.

    Thank you for this. I was always scared of streaming ,doing social media, RUclips, etc and this month I told myself “ fuck it just do it” and I started streaming and working on social media. I was working on a video this week and I kept telling myself” even if it’s fucking bad it’s okay I’ll improve and I’ll learn from it” but I went into the cycle of “procrastination with planning”. It’s so funny how I know what to do but I’m also the barrier to any success I might achieve. I’m gonna finish that fucking video today.

    I am a father and husband at 29 years old. I am 100% paralyzed by failure and I have dreams of success. You are spot on. I just can’t seem to hop the barrier of fear based on past judgments and I would love to speak with you more than you could know. I am employed but unable to afford a living that is ideal in any sense. Thank you for this video. I hope I can gain the courage to seek a path and make that step.

    Omg Devin you are such a freakin genius. Thank you so much. Im bingewatching your videos for the past month. And this one really hit to heart. Because its true for me. Im scared to fail, im scared for the comments, im scared to be stupid and scared that people hate me, or cancel me. Im scared that I cant live up to the standards of frequent content and uploads the most. So I keep planning and planning and watching videos on how to make and plan content. But thats all I do. I realised this but it never was this clear to me now you've put it into words. You are a great deal to a lot of people. I hope you feel the positive energy 🧡

    When i first entered the workforce i got this outdoors job and thought the old people there were wise scholars. They'd get mad at stuff and i'd automatically think they were right and everything i did was wrong. Then one day one of them ran over my foot with a pallet jack trying to stack boxes. Slowly caught on from there that most of the world isn't in much better shape than me in knowhow, which to me is a scary thought. But it explains a lot about how the world it is today. :)

    I know about that quote about doubling your failure rate. There's another quote that courage is how to deal with fear. Doing the easy steps first before doing the hard steps. These help lead to success.

    used to get captivated by the study phase as well. Your brain really loves to think its doing work by learning about a subject. But its a trick, the only that matters is the action, no matter how small. No More Zero days people. Do something.

  • @LuckyGnom
    @LuckyGnom 5 лет назад +2

    7:20 - I am a guy who made a lot of actions and never though about my actions. After some time I realised that this is wrong and I started to analyze what I am doing. However, this didn't work out for me too, because I wasn't been able to made a deep enough self-analysis. Everything ended up sadly: nowadays I'm in a big shit being nobody with a lot of psychological problems that I somehow need to fix asap. In case you're curious I wasted about 20 years of my life by now by "just doing".
    So, what I learned is that you need to preplan no matter and this preplan should be based on the info you got from the people that are good at thing you want to do. Trick is to find this balance where you feel that: "Yeah, I know basics, now I need to stop being scared and just do it. So I can face problems when they will happen, if they will."

    If anyone is curious in learning more about this read 'The War of Art'. It a pretty famous book and begins with what Devin is talking about, Resistance, and how that is the biggest barrier between your current life and your desired life.

    Devin, I'm about to start RUclips and twitch and my brand. Glad I ran across your videos before I did. I think too, that it isnt that hard to make a livable wage from branding yourself. It literally is only bound to motivation, well plus some people who are built for other things in life. But most people can get out of the slumps. The 9-5s, might not be right away.. but that's where "bound by motivation" comes into play because, you can monitoze in so many different ways. You could try making compilations videos that catch trends and if you get hit with copyright, or if your videos dont get recommended, you try something else. It will take some practice and failure like everything else. But this is probably the most important thing you can invest time into learning.

    I love this video and thank you for your vulnerability. Intelligence and a good plan certainly help with success, but it's really about having the time, energy, and conviction to keep moving forward (and not just planning). We're social animals and the long road to success is often very embarrassing and painful emotionally. Something has to drive you through that pain to urgently take the next steps. If you're lucky, you've got a psychological disorder which forces you. Otherwise, hopefully you have good friends (who have been through this) for rational encouragement.

    Devin you said something in an earlier talk that I really liked, and perhaps this is the opposite side of the spectrum, but you mentioned that for a lot of streamers, streaming less and putting in more hours planning better content is a better use of time. I'd like to hear your thoughts on where exactly the balance is between just doing it and putting in time planning.
    Beyond creating online content, and maybe you can't really comment on it, but where do you think analysis paralysis comes up the most in other professions? Switching companies? Changing career paths?
