As an incoming PA student, I can't tell you how insanely helpful this video has been. I am so grateful that you focus on giving us a snapshot of the main aspects of the rotation and the resources to best prepare for it. I have made notes of it so I can use it when my EM rotation starts. Thank you so very much!

Saludos Allan, if you’re truly considering to pursue this PA thing I ask that you look at the stats of Latino/Hispanic men in the profession. We are less than 6 percent. Your experience, your voice, and your cultura is needed in this field. If you ever have any questions about the process send me a dm on instagram and I will do my best to reply! Animo bro and thank you for the support and comment 🤝🏼

Im a new grad IRT RPN so I float to emergency and I see that It's definitely important to know what diagnostics and labs to be done because u want to anticipate what the doctors will order. The doctors are usually busy in ED and when we nurses call em they will ask you "what do u want?". So I try to be concise for eg. " Dr.Smith my patient is complaining of chest pain, do u want an ECG done?" or "My patient's plt is critically low 21, how much platelet do u want me to give?". I'm thinking of going back to school for PA because nursing is burning me out. Do u think in terms of patient interaction, is it better than nursing? As nurses, were with patients 24/7, I feel like a maid sometimes.

Hi Jenna! First, thank you for watching my video and an extra thank you for the comment.
As a PA, part of our duties include diagnosing, treating, ordering labs reviewing imaging, ordering medications, and leading a team of nurses, LVNs, MAs depending on the setting or specialty. As a nurse, you were trained in the nursing model, and as a PA, you will be trained in the medical model which resembles the way our physician MD/DO colleagues are taught to view and interpret data (labwork, imaging etc)
We are in no way a substitute for physicians, but our work and daily tasks are very similar. And compared to our nursing colleagues, we spend much less time at the bedside and most time behind the computer writing orders, documenting, and analyzing bloodwork/imaging - especially in the ED setting. In your specific situation, I would recommend doing your research to compare and contrast the PA vs NP profession-they both have their own pros and cons.
Hope that helps amiga! Saludos 👨🏻‍⚕️🇲🇽

Wassup compa!! I actually have been using this “premade” deck that was sent to me from a fellow PA! It’s focused on content from the PAEA EOR blueprints! Really helpful for studying during clinicals.

Most of the Anki cards I memorized during didactic were made using PowerPoint slides from our instructors.
Lmk if you have issues accessing my drive! Feliz Navidad bro 🙏🏼
