Super game. Never seen or played Middle Earth. Really fun and dynamic. It feels like a proper skirmish game that really drives narrative. Lovely. More please!!!
It has the best ruleset of GW games and is the easiest to get into with its smaller army/point sizes and the slower dev cycle meaning you get longer to play with an edition. They just announced today that they will be releasing a new edition next year so now is a good time to start looking into the game. Unlike other GW games you only need to buy a hero pack to add to their Battle for Osgiliath set to have a legal 500pt (one of the most common game size) army
Yeah, it's really fun to see all the opportunities for cinematic longshot moments that sometimes pay off. If you haven't watched this channel's massive Helm's Deep battle, it's also a ton of fun.
@@729060 yeah, the dev and update cycle for 40k is killing me as a casual player. Based on this, I’ll be going into my local GW and pick up some Middle Earth minis!
It was great fun. Amazed you can scale a skirmish to Helms Deep - obviously no idea how many hours it took! But the ethos of how can we allow something cool is very different to 40K rules lawyering (as much as I like 40K)
Thank you for doing battle reps of this game!!! ❤❤ Please do more!! Couple of notes to keep in mind: -There is no maelstorm deployment in Lords of Battle scenario, so no warbands should have come later in the game. -Points are scored just once at the end of the match, so you can never have more than 12. -Heroic channeling has to be declared at the start of the whole move phase (like you did with Heroic movements). -Combat pairings should be done at the end of the movement phase, not the start of the fight phase. This could affect in the way models for shooting at combats. -Courage tests are done model by model when you are going to move them or if you decided they are going to remain still. This is important because you can move models or make charges with more knowledge of the situation you are in.
YES!! More MESBG!!! The editing on this is incredible, too. By far the highest production value of any wargame channel, so it's such a joy to see my only game I play on here. Please keep it going, there's a new edition of the game coming soon which is interesting
Really fun batrep guys! Couple of small notes: Theodred should have re-rolled his failed to-wound rolls on Sharku (Reckless Charge). Scoring: All competitive scenarios are scored 0-12 pts. For Lords of battle the wound count is separate from the victory point totals. So Rohan would have had 3 for scoring more wounds (but not double), 3 for leader kill (fleeing counts), and 1 for breaking Isengard totaling 7. Isengard would have had 3 for the leader kill and 1 for breaking Rohan totaling 4. Breaking: Breaking is evaluated at the START of a turn. This means Isengard would not have had to take courage tests that first round (where Sharku fled). Despite the slip-ups the end result turn out to still be a Rohan win in a very cinematic fashion. Pretty cool guys!
Man, I love this! One of the lesser known battles from the War of the Ring and from the Lord of the Rings series. The First Battle of the Fords of Isen takes place the day after Boromir dies in LOTR. Theodred, son of Theoden, leads his force to counter Isengard and the forces of Saruman, aided by the Rohirrim warriors Grimbold, Elfhelm, and Erkenbrand. Unfortunately, the prince dies and is buried where he falls, his last words being "Let me lie here-to keep the ford until Éomer comes". This is followed by another battle just before the confrontation at Helm's Deep, which effectively results in Rohan's western border open to attack by Saruman.
Glad you are shining more light on MESBG, it has the best ruleset of all GW games. I hope more people come into the hobby from seeing this! Also perfect timing with the final announcement for the supplement and the new edition, hopefully the fight meta and some of the hobbit models get tweaked when the new edition launches.
Middle Earth remains GWs best system, and its probably one of the best games for battle reports as well. Videos are a narrative medium and in middle earth every warrior is so crucial. And there are so many ways to play this game!

Theodred's special rules make him so fun to play with, even if you need to be constantly making sure your opponent doesn't put the ol bait orc that you have to charge out
Great game(edits for extra notes)! One note was the heroic channeling called by the shaman at the start of the game. It should have been called when the move phase began, so before the Rohan forces moved. All heroics are called at the start of the phase, regardless of who has priority. Same thing appeared to happen with the march the "grishnak" captain called later on. You can also Allocate strikes individually so when dismounting Theoden, you can roll 1 attack at the horse, then decide if you want to do another if the horse isnt wounded, allowing you to dismount the horse and then put the rest into Theoden. Hope to see more MESBG from you guys!

Fun game to watch, slight wrong interpretation of the rules at the end of turn 7 @35:09 The rules state that the game ends on a roll of a 1-2 where one force is broken yes, however a force is not deemed broken until the broken threshold is passed at the start of the round, which means the first roll for end of game would've happened at the end of turn 8. Keep it up though! love the video :) edit: finished the video, another missplay from the same misinterpretation of the rule, the check for broken would've already happened at the start of turn 10, which means killing that one orc with the throwing spear would not cause the Isengard player to have to roll courage checks this turn, only from next turn onwards.
Love the batrep! only real rules issue is that an army is broken at the start of the turn in which it has less than 50% remaining, so it would not roll for end of turn or have to start taking courage checks until the turn after the minis were killed. Otherwise amazing battle!
