Have you seen a video from rich duberbash, he slotted the frame under the spur. Let's all the metal dust and dirt out and nothing gets in! Saves motor and clutch bearings. Have had mine done for 2 months now. Works great!
I just took mine apart because I noticed that my mesh plate was bent . I didn't have an upgraded one on hand so I flattened it back out . I know it will cause the spur gear to get torn up if it gets to bent so I have one on order along with an upgraded metal spur gear and will be redoing the whole thing when they get here so I appreciate the video man !!! Thanks ! P.S. Baby wipes work really well for cleaning out all the grime that gets under that stuff !
I had a bad frontal impact on mine that sent a shock down the driveshaft and transferred to the gear mesh adjustment plate(motor mount plate), bent it. Heard binding when running, kept running it to see if it sorted out and it shredded the spur gear, so guess I need to replace the adjustment plate and spur gear. Ooof. At this point just buying 4 standard composite spur gears and 1 metal one so I've got replacements on hand.
@@BarstoneRC I'm a bit surprised something else didn't break or bend before the energy was transferred to and bent that plate, but maybe it was designed that way. To transfer to what should be a strong part and generally not bend, but still be replaceable and sacrificial in cases that it does. I will say, the ease of working on modern ARRMA vehicles takes a lot of the headache out of RC repair/replacing parts. My last RC was a Helion Dominus 10TR and I felt like most of the time with that car to repair anything, you had to disassemble at least half of it and it was tons of screws. Definitely appreciate the more modular design of the 3S line.
I've got the firma 150a and 2050kv motor was running it on 3s got pretty hot. It's just little to big for my typhon 3s ordered a cheap little hobbystar 3670 motor gonna give it a try see if it works better for me. At one point it scared me somehow it slid away from the spur gear thought it stripped it for a min. Glad to see you having fun an making yet another great video

Once I replaced the composite spur with a steal one, other things started to break because power transfers to the next weakest link. So be prepared to change the rear diff as well as some drive shafts. Once you do all that, they will truly be tanks.
@@BarstoneRC Granted, my upgrades were done on the Vorteks which is a bit heavier and could be why more things are bound to fail. My big rock is stock and holding up well

Hey curious brother after upgrading did you happen to notice anything else faltering because of that upgrade? I heard people say those little plastic bushing that comes off the slipper clutch tends to melt with the metal gear. My spur gear is coming tomorrow and my big rocks hitting the shop for a few more upgrades but while shes open im curious if i should make more upgrades. Thanks!

I just fixed my stripped ⚙️. I was taken it apart and I thought to myself. What if I get a razor blade and clean up the stripped ⚙️ it is plastic...and what do you know 🤗 its working..... of course you must adjust the mesh.... hopefully it last till my new metal one arrives.....⚙️🔪🤘🏼🤓

Lol I tried keeping it cranked down but I ended up breaking driveshaft too often on the Kraton 4s, depending on how you’re running it that slipper Hass to work a little bit
I have done exactly as described by you and others, but I cant get it tight. I have broken 3 of the small plastic things inside the spur, even though I have tightened it very lightly. What am I doing wrong?
i did mine today but the plates between the metal spur gear have back and forth play where as the plastic one is tight and even after i adjust the mestal gear it still slips and still has play what am i doing wrong
Are you talking about the slipper plates have play in them and that part is not getting tight? I’ve heard rumors that some of them had to have an extra plate installed I did not need to do this on mine but it might be on yours?
@Bars&tone RC I'm with you there. This is my first model grade rc vehicle and I absolutely love it. The only problem is round here; there are not a huge number of places to run it and really let it rip. So I'm looking into buying some land and building an RC Arena. Cars, helicopters, planes and possibly drones. If I can get a permission maybe a boat lake too.

Curious I didnt know you could use the plastic pads on the metal spur gear. Im using the metal pads that Hot Racing makes on mine. Im thinking now the only reason they make the metal ones is they last longer than the plastic ones?

For some reason unless I tighten the screw almost all the way down the entire unit is "loose" and wiggles around too much. I didnt have this issue with the arrma steel spur gear that I put in my Typhon lol
I made a post about this upgrade on the arrma forums and was told that I need to use 4 slipper pads with this rather than 3. 2 on each side. Is that really necessary?
I have changed my spur for a metal one on the big rock had a couple of problems with the wheels seemed to loose traction I have tightened up slightly on the slipper clutch and now my car seems to run for a minute or two then goes into limp mode like when your battery goes flat but fully charged any ideas please to help me out

The ESC was a direct swap out there was no modification needed and no I haven’t had any problems with the car or those tires the car has been running great
@@BarstoneRCIt's common to get slight bends in the motor mount..You won't even notice it until you take the motor mount plate out ..It will cause spur gear to strip and or bearing to wear out prematurely..I've had a hand full of 3s Arrma's and everytime the spur let go the motor plate was the culprit..Now I'm not trying to tell you what to do or anything I'm just giving you a suggestion..Take it how you will..Have a good one
No man I get what your saying I’ve had that happen many times on my 3s cars I was just saying that it’s not the problem, I did ck that because I have bent them so many times.
How bent does the motor mount need to be to cause problems? Mine was a tiny bit bent. Could barely see it. Maybe half millimeter gap under the middle of the plate.
Hmm, that's what I kept reading too. I know what you mean, the 3S metal spur kinda acts like a 4S one so it needs 4. I'm no expert, but trying to figure it out.
NOT WORKING The steel gear is thinner between the discs and the screw bottoms out before tension occurs between the discs. BE CAREFUL. NOT a direct fit for 3S V3 Big Rock. - Requires ONE extra slipper disc to fit.

You just need to put the BLX 120 ESC edit the stock motor can hold up pretty well to it I’m still running mine

It will make a little more noise and a tiny bit hotter but is your mesh set to tight! If it is it will cause more heat.

Love the video I recently stripped the spur gear and didn't have a clue how to fix it. Does it not tip over more on 4s or have you already widened it?

No even on 3S it’s a great idea you don’t have to worry about stripping this thing out. It’s a good upgrade either way you run it.

Its advised to add an extra slipper pad BUT if you have no issues i dont see why you couldn't run it as is 👍

Sounds like your ESC is going bad unless something is bound up?

Is your mesh set too tight on your pinion and spur gear? Or is the aluminum plate that the motor mounts to bent?

It was a blx120 and the wing is from a Typhon 3s I believe
You'll continually break parts, running on 3-4s. It's plenty fast on 2s, and you can drive instead of repair.

I put a 6 s system in one, and it was just too heavy and handled horribly fyi not worth it. 4s would be a blast!!!!!!

How bent does the motor mount need to be to cause problems? Mine was a tiny bit bent. Could barely see it. Maybe half millimeter gap under the middle of the plate.

ℹ️ With steel spur you need 4 slipper pads, not 3 🤔
Look at exploded views. 4s cars have 4 pads and 3s cars have 3, because metal spur is thinner 🙂
Yeah but it’s. Not a full 4s car. Still a 3s besides the ESC. It’s working great so far.
Hmm, that's what I kept reading too. I know what you mean, the 3S metal spur kinda acts like a 4S one so it needs 4. I'm no expert, but trying to figure it out.

The steel gear is thinner between the discs and the screw bottoms out before tension occurs between the discs.

@@BarstoneRC 6 hard bashes and toasted both those bearings and seized the motor lol Arrma tuff can’t handle Jamie bashing lol 😝 super fun truck though I got the whole thing warrantied so I’m happy will have a new one in 2 days
Yeah that’s one thing I really love about Arrma is there warranty in customer service it’s second to none.
@@BarstoneRC I bought mine on Amazon and they have 30 day for defects pretty amazing warrenty considering I wrecked the body too
