I think about the era of Angelo Bruno like the Roman Emporer Claudius. Claudius was much more enlightened than his predecessor his uncle Tiberius. He brought great periods of properity andwhile there were some wars in Germania the empire was really peaceful and properous. For example, he was famous for example for building a Winter harbor which allowed Wheat to be shipped in during Winter. In the end Claudius reign ended in murder, he was assassinated by his own family and his successor Nero proved to be more brutal than successful just like Scarfo was.
Keitel was amazing in the few moments he had. I remember when the film first came out someone said “for 3 hours the movie felt short” and they were right. There was so much history to unpack. I don’t think a lot of people who watched knew Bruno was really the head guy in all this. Mix that with Keitel’s acting skills and a 5 hour movie might have been great
The only scene he struggled to pull off was when Deniro beat up the guy who shoved his daughter. He just couldn't make it look like anything but an 80 year old kicking a guy.
Keital was the “original tough guy”. From what I’ve read, he could tired of being (type casted) which could probably why another reason why we haven’t seen him for a long time as being treated like that makes actors become disillusioned with the industry.
Dean Bryant what does having notable roles have anything to do with talent? Deniro became Scorsese’s go to actor it could easily have been keitel. Harvey keitel is every bit as good an actor as Robert Deniro.

Just watched it again this morning at the Grosvenor Cinema in Ashton Lane Glasgow. Robert De Niro bossed it through and through. Because he effortlessly played the character through 6 decades. Pesci and Pacino were incredible but for me De Niro owned it.
I watched the movie and my heart sank with each scene where I knew his death was coming. The movie was about Frank, but the character that I empathized with most was Pacino's Hoffa. He was so much more likable and relatable than Frank's character. SPOILER if people dont know that Jimmy Hoffa's character dies, then they really need to pay attention to history.
Zach Johnson Have you seen "Bad Lieutenant?" What about "Reservoir Dogs?" And in "Pulp Fiction" as a Mr Wolf? This guy is just full of energy and he readied it whenever he shows up. It’d be just so damn wrong and unfair to label him as "under rated."
Gun collector! What a tough guy you are with that comment ha. So is it that bad to know a “Jew”? Well, tough guy I know a few and you wouldn’t say boo to them in the flesh, because they’d knock you out pal. But, Suppose with a name like “gun collector’” you must be one hard dude 😂 so I’ll leave you to your little deluded world, where your probably one real tough guy ha ha
My father was Bruno’s godson. My father didn’t tell me that. He was very tight lipped about his life. Both my grandfather and father were soldiers in the Philadelphia mafia. He told me a couple stories about Angelo Bruno, but not much. I found out Bruno was his godfather by researching on the internet.
Harvey Keitel kicks ass! It was really cool seeing him show up in the movie even if it was for a minute. I'd put him up there with Pacino, deniro and pesci, even if his movie history isn't as "acclaimed" as the others. Loved him in resovoir dogs, pulp fiction, moonrise kingdom, and from dusk til Dawn.
"Well they blew up the chicken man in Philly last night and they blew up his house too. Down on the boardwalk they're getting ready for a fight gonna see what them racket boys can do". Bruce Springsteen Atlantic City
That would be one helluva movie. Chin Gigante has Bruno murdered because the Genovese Crime Family wanted control of Atlantic City while Bruno asserted that South Jersey was his territory. Carlo Gambino dying and Gambino making Castellano the new Boss instead of Neil Dellacroce hurt Bruno’s position since Castellano, although respected for his business acumen, wasn’t respected as a street guy. Dellacroce would have stopped all of this bullsh** from going down.
Angelo Bruno was the biggest drug dealer in south philly before he died. This documentary isnt accurate, he may have been the docile don, but was most definitely involved in the drug trade
Seems like Angelo Bruno was a great don, He took care of his own people well and wasn’t as violent as the others. Seemed he believed in vioilence when only necessary and his prior respected him more, thus less government inforamantd and rats because they knew they where being taken care of real good and the boss had thier backs. But sadly no matter how good of a person you are greed and envy will always ruin everything. Think about that 20 years of peace without any internal corruption or government informants or snitches.
South Philly turned to shit after Bruno was killed, and things still are under control. Bruno ran the town well and his "replacements" have all been complete butchers.
interesting that these people end up killing each other. there's no honor among thieves is what i'm getting from this. man those photos of when they're dead are really gruesome. thanks for the history lesson.
The Philadelphia family has never recovered since the murder of Angelo Bruno. The decline started with Angelo's absence and then Scarfo came in and just decimated everything. Then the Stanfa/Merlino guys and an abundance of cooperators put the final nails in the coffin. Now, it's a few low level street guys with no power, no influence and no connections. But, that's probably the state of the mob everywhere nowadays.
A coworker lived around the corner from Angelo's South Philly home. People.living nearby loved him. Said houses & cars did not get broken into.Nobody got mugged on his street.
It was a combination of things that lead to Bruno getting whacked. People in the Philly mob weren't happy with Bruno's reign and certain people in New York (mainly the Genovese family) took advantage of that by saying to individuals like Tony Caponigro that they had the okay of the commission to take Bruno out when in reality they did not. Thus, when Caponigro went to New York to what he thought would be his coronation of Boss he instead meet a brutal end. For more info, I recommend Phil Leonetti's book Mafia Prince.
I was born and raised in South Philly. I grew up only a few blocks where Angelo Bruno was assassinated. The man looked out for the neighborhood. He helped out a lot of people in the neighborhood. Those guys minded their business. Never killed innocent women or children in stupid drive by shooting. They kept it among themselves. Their business was their own business. We all knew this. You keep your nose out of their business and everything was fine. That's just the way it was growing up in South Philly back then.
I've seen Keitel act on par with De Niro and Pacino a few times. Especially in his Scorsese and Tarantino roles. He's just drifted his way through too much fluff over the years.
Harvey Keitel is also a USMC veteran. 🎗. He was the first lead actor in the Vietnam drama Apocalypse Now(1979) until director/producer Francis Ford Coppala decided to cut Keitel then cast actor Martin Sheen.
So this guy was the nicest and most thoughtful in a world where everyone resorted to killing without much thought, and his end came because he refused to enter the narcotic business. So he was basically the real life godfather

I'm more surprised that they used to print graphic pictures like that in the papers.
That death scream is truly haunting. True gangsters end.
I found it interesting that whenever the text came on screen about someone's death, the death always seemed to happen in 1980 or very close to that.
Right after bruno died philly went crazy that's why. The next 15 years were rough
The death of Bruno is the main reason why
Because the 80's was when most of the mob in all 5 families went to war
@@matthewmaldonado9756 this wasnt a 5 families thing. That's in New York. This is Philadelphia we're talking about & by extension, Alantic City
Alix McCann the mafia had lots of wars during the 80’s mainly because of Bruno’s death in 1980
Keitel was amazing in the few moments he had. I remember when the film first came out someone said “for 3 hours the movie felt short” and they were right. There was so much history to unpack. I don’t think a lot of people who watched knew Bruno was really the head guy in all this. Mix that with Keitel’s acting skills and a 5 hour movie might have been great
i like the flashback scenes where the almost eighty year old actors try to play youngsters
70yr old looking pesci: Hey kid
60yr old looking DeNiro: Hey
The only scene he struggled to pull off was when Deniro beat up the guy who shoved his daughter. He just couldn't make it look like anything but an 80 year old kicking a guy.
Keital was the “original tough guy”. From what I’ve read, he could tired of being (type casted) which could probably why another reason why we haven’t seen him for a long time as being treated like that makes actors become disillusioned with the industry.
So who says Keitel isn’t in the same acting bracket as deniro? I’ve never heard that.
J W
They could be equally skilled but Harvey doesn’t have as many notable roles as him.
Dean Bryant what does having notable roles have anything to do with talent? Deniro became Scorsese’s go to actor it could easily have been keitel. Harvey keitel is every bit as good an actor as Robert Deniro.
@@mrjw6701 yeah sure he has the talents but he's not well known to the public that's what he mean when he said he wasn't in the same bracket in other words dude don't have the same amount of clout lol
He was never the top billed star the way Pacino and DeNiro are but he is an amazing actor in his own right
@@DreDaDon16 its all relative to what the director is trying to convey.. you want Clarence Williams III or Denzel Washington..? They both are capable, just comes down to personal discretion.
I needed more of Bruno in the film!
Just watched it again this morning at the Grosvenor Cinema in Ashton Lane Glasgow. Robert De Niro bossed it through and through. Because he effortlessly played the character through 6 decades. Pesci and Pacino were incredible but for me De Niro owned it.
This was just well paced fact after fact and I loved it
Pacino played the best Jimmy Hoffa I ever seen
I watched the movie and my heart sank with each scene where I knew his death was coming. The movie was about Frank, but the character that I empathized with most was Pacino's Hoffa. He was so much more likable and relatable than Frank's character. SPOILER if people dont know that Jimmy Hoffa's character dies, then they really need to pay attention to history.
I didn't even know it was pacino the whole movie lol
Pacino played Pacino, he didn't seem like Hoffa, just himself. For me Joe Pesci wss the best, missed him
I thought Jack Nicholson was a better Hoffa.
@@claudiubanu8438 I don't think Pacino ever played anything but Pacino in any movie besides Scarface lmao
Harvey Keitel was good in ''Clockers"...one of my favorite Actors...
That was a very very good movie
"Harvey Keitel is underrated."
You’re kidding, right?
arkdark555 I agree with you. I know the guy, he acts when he wants to act and enjoys life the rest of the time.
How is he not?
Zach Johnson
Have you seen "Bad Lieutenant?" What about "Reservoir Dogs?" And in "Pulp Fiction" as a Mr Wolf? This guy is just full of energy and he readied it whenever he shows up.
It’d be just so damn wrong and unfair to label him as "under rated."
Gun collector! What a tough guy you are with that comment ha. So is it that bad to know a “Jew”? Well, tough guy I know a few and you wouldn’t say boo to them in the flesh, because they’d knock you out pal. But, Suppose with a name like “gun collector’” you must be one hard dude 😂 so I’ll leave you to your little deluded world, where your probably one real tough guy ha ha
@@arkdark5554 You need to go look up the word 'underrated'...
Wonder if Frank Vincent the guy who played billy Batts in Goodfellas would've been in this had he not passed.
Keitel is an excellent actor! I’ve gotta disagree with the statement on him being in a lower acting bracket then his co-stars
What a great video! Your voice sounds a lot like GradeAUnderA when he’s not in that crazy mode
I learned the family rumor that my great great grandmother was the mistress of the Irish version of Al Capone, watching Paddywhacked! Documentary
Was he adamant about you staying away from that life?
they are all in the same acting bracket - legendary.
Loved seeing the legendary Mr. Wolfe as Angelo Bruno. Haters haven’t done their research on this guy’s accolades/ prior roles! 😉
Pacino and DeNiro are the Kings of the game but Keitel is no slouch. He’s as great as any actor out there.
Lol never thought about that but true 😂😂
They're all light years past their prime and we're quite lame in this snooze fest.
Bruno was playing chess while the rest of his family were playing checkers.
I've loved Charlie Keitel since the film Mean Streets, hence the name "Charlie"
Harvey Keitel
@@bmoredrew4724 Guess you missed the "hence" part.
My dad operated a newspaper route as a kid; Bruno was his customer. He said Bruno was always a nice guy and paid wel
The whole movie is epic, though am quite sure that Frank Shereen was a liar in his true life.
Ian Kanini why though he was old and dying why lie about things
Eric Gill why not he was a scumbag murdering criminal 🤷🏼♂️
@@ericg1100 He was a sociopath who liked to take credit even for murders he didn't commit.
He was a mob hit man, of course he was a liar! The least of his evil deeds.
The only part of his book was Hoffa getting bbq-ed
Just rewatched it and it’s 100x better, despite the fact I thoroughly enjoyed the first viewing.
This is a very good video on the Philly mob. I look forward to more on this channel.
Harvey is a great actor...
Kietel should have had a bigger part”
"Well they blew up the chicken man in Philly last night and they blew up his house too. Down on the boardwalk they're getting ready for a fight gonna see what them racket boys can do". Bruce Springsteen Atlantic City
So Scorsese has one more mob film in him who would play Angelo Bruno and the rest of the cast that's an interesting conversation
Pure idiocy.
He was a fucking mobster and as such, a true piece of shit.
He was cheap..Kept all the money for only him and a few guys...The rest were golfers
Ah yes, the least stinky turd. Let’s put it in the kitchen.
South Philly turned to shit after Bruno was killed, and things still are under control. Bruno ran the town well and his "replacements" have all been complete butchers.
So basically the real life Don Corleone
Advance to 2:27 to skip the movie review and get to the point of the title.
interesting that these people end up killing each other. there's no honor among thieves is what i'm getting from this. man those photos of when they're dead are really gruesome. thanks for the history lesson.
the chariot loyalty. Frank-Russ -Russ-hoffa = frank. Russ needed something done.

Harvey Keitel is one of my favorite actors. Essentially tied for 1st. I wish he had more time in the movie too.
He forgot to get his shine box
Harvey Keitel did an amazing job in Clockers (1995) by Spike Lee, but Scorsese produced it and was on set.
"He wont need it"
This guy really plays the roll, I mean, look at him he looks like a real Don!!
Pesci has been out of the spotlight for a long time, he aged quite a bit.

I thought the title said “what happened to Angelo Bronte” 🤣😂
an all star movie...with kind of an old timers day feel
Would have loved to have seen more bobby cannavale also underused.
Julian walden he looked like a present day Chazz Palmentari
The Philadelphia family has never recovered since the murder of Angelo Bruno.
The decline started with Angelo's absence and then Scarfo came in and just decimated everything.
Then the Stanfa/Merlino guys and an abundance of cooperators put the final nails in the coffin.
Now, it's a few low level street guys with no power, no influence and no connections.
But, that's probably the state of the mob everywhere nowadays.
I wonder why despite his habit of making multiple films with one leading actor, Scorsese only did Mean Streets with Keitel. A bit of a shame.
This one hit very close to home for me. Losing Angie was the beginning of the end.
Harvey is every bit the quality actor that the rest are.
A coworker lived around the corner from Angelo's South Philly home. People.living nearby loved him. Said houses & cars did not get broken into.Nobody got mugged on his street.
I thought it did a freeze frame on every boss and showed how they died
no it just freezes on their face and tells you how many times they were shot.
Meta not really, some were blown up as well
@@MegaTuber86 it said Bruno was killed in 1980,shot in the back of the head.
@@robcochran6213 yes it did.
@@robcochran6213 the very first time they show Bruno you will see the note saying he was shot in 1980
It was a combination of things that lead to Bruno getting whacked.
My late grandfather claimed he knew Harvey prior to acting. I think Harvey had a bank job.
I swear you are the Irishman's number one fan lol
Yes he is on the same level
Harvey Keitel is also a USMC veteran. 🎗. He was the first lead actor in the Vietnam drama Apocalypse Now(1979) until director/producer Francis Ford Coppala decided to cut Keitel then cast actor Martin Sheen.
So this guy was the nicest and most thoughtful in a world where everyone resorted to killing without much thought, and his end came because he refused to enter the narcotic business. So he was basically the real life godfather
The Godfather is based on Joe Bonanno
