I've been summoning for years now, and truth be told, I've heard so many things from so many sources that I got totally confused on what banners are good and how summoning works at all, therefore I've put together this video with tons of graphic material to make it really understandable for everyone. So I hope you will enjoy this video and hopefully learn a thing or two to improve your summoning experience!

You know, I've often said that you guys put way too much effort into your videos, but this one really takes the cake. I've seen enough videos on summoning to already know most of this, but this is by far the best one and will be the video I recommend to anyone that has any misconceptions on summoning. Literally anyone playing this game could understand what you're saying in this video. So much info with calculations and the visuals to match them. There's also the right amount of humor (imo) to keep people interested throughout the video. Looking forward to the second part.

I didn't got any colourless in the free 5 star and chose red and got Seth

Don't be disappointed when Seth shows up. Make Seth a beast like he is in sacred stones, and every time you summon him, you will have a moment of happiness.

Thanks to you, I summon more carefully. before I often summoned all five because I thought there was a 3 % chance for it to be 5 star but now that I know this I just try to pick the color(s) that I want. I feel like I have gotten way more 5 stars since watching this.

Omg. I keep grabbing colorless thinking i have 11 percent chance to get a five stars unit when in reality, it’s only 6 %. Whereas red would have almost 20% to get something good. IS scam me with there percentages. Class action lawsuit. Any lawyers in here?
I have to admit, collecting data for this video, that the creators of FEH have been evil geniuses by coming up with that summoning system... it looks so fair and promising while it's actually a rollercoaster xD if you find a lawyer I will sign up as well |D

WoM units never appear while summoning. Screenshots of these units are most likely photoshopped
Guys I wanna make a note. For the focus 5*, if there is a focus unit of every colour, the 3% Focus is divided by each focus unit, so you have a 0.75 chance of getting a Focus 5* when summoning in the Flayn-Seteth-Catherine-Shamir banner.
In banner that have units colour sharing, like the new TH banner, there are two focus in blue. That means that, instead of having a 0.75% chance of getting Marianne, you have 1.5 % chance of getting Marianne or Ingrid. So colour sharing is actually better, specially in banners with spark. You will get the unit you want, and have a better chance of getting something along the way, SO STOP FUCKING COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS BANNER
that's very true, colorsharing does increase the number of 5-stars per orb a lot, but I will give this topic an own part in the second video, as there is still more to it

@@dantefilsdesparda but in Legendary Banners it doesn't work like that. In Legendary, you have to divide 8% chance between 12 units, which it's a 0.66 chance of getting that unit you're looking for. That's a 2% chance of getting any 5* in every colour, I repeat, ANY 5*. As you see, the odds for getting that specific unit are lower than in a normal banner.
In Legendary Banners, you are supposed to get more 5* than usual, but the chance of getting the unit you want is lower than usual. They're somewhat of a scam

I AGREE with what you wrote about the TH banner. I add a personal experience (4 Mila and no Claude) because I thought it was fun, and because it's about colour sharing.
Let's assume I have a 4 colorless focus heroes.
The proba of getting 4 Mila is low (1/81=0.012) while having at least one Claude is high (1-16/81=65/81=0.8).
So I just said I was angry to have so many Mila and not a single Claude. The same goes for 3H focus : if I want Ingrid and not Marianne and I have 4 Mariannes and not a single Ingrid, I will be angry.
What I meant is that a colour sharing is a double edge sword.
Yeah, as you said, it raises the rate of 5* focus heroes we get : 5,64% chance to have a focus hero if you click blue.
However, if you click on a blue orb, you are less likely to have Ingrid if Marianne is blue too. I used the numbers shown in the video at 14:12 to illustrate :
-if both Marianne and Ingrid are blue, you have 2,82% chance to have Ingrid if you click on a blue orb
-if Marianne was red, you would have 2,90% chance to get Ingrid
Besides, it can be very frustrating if you're unlucky, it's like a taunt of the game that gives you a focus hero but not the good one.
That's just what I wanted to point out.
Also I have nothing against Marianne, that's just an exemple !

that's a good decision. with her skillset she will likely end up on many skill banners and maybe even in an upcoming hero fest, and both of these have better odds to get many copies of her ^^
I hope your summons went well I say mine did I got 2 irenes and 1 Marianne in 20 orbs and 4 tickets
@@spookeditz3519 haha thank you, I ended up not being able to control myself and got 5 Mariannes and 6 Ingrids with a bunch of random characters in 1,100 orbs. I learned that colorsharing sucks the hard way

I got two reds, one blue, one green, and one colorless. I wanted Young Marth, or Duo Sigurd, but I got a +Res -Hp Spring Idunn. In the Seiros banner I wanted Legendary Julia and Flayn, but ended with two Seiros and two Legendary Alm xD. (Pardon my grammar, English is not my first language)

Now I will perhaps calc for next summons when I don't know what color to pick (perhaps, sometimes I don't care about a focus so I won't waste time to count how many heroes there are in each color).

Finally, a mathematical breakdown of why Colorless sniping is always a dumpster fire. Topical given how much pain I'm in after trying to get Valentine's Faye merges. Too bad I also didn't get a colorless stone on the anniversary pick. At least the Green orb was Grima...

Thank you very much for this video. I though that the colours were generated first, then the rarity/category, then the hero. I think that would be a much fairer way to do it. Which is obviously why they don't do it. Now I understand why my luck can be so bad when sniping though. The pity rate is working, but the 5-stars were just being generated as different colours so I missed them by sniping. It also explains why when I finally DO get a 5-star and complete the circle I often get two 5-stars in that one circle. It isn't insane luck, it is the pity-rate working as advertised and generating more 5-stars. For example I remember getting Lucina and Brave Lucina in the same circle on a revival banner, I got Pirate Tibarn and Pirate Veronica in the same circle and I got NY Plumeria and M!Byleth in the same circle. I think I have got others too, but they are the ones that I remember off the top of my head.

In Free 5* Seasonal Banner , it got me 3 colorless 1 green and 1 blue , but for some reason I pick Green bc i want Bridal Nailah or Furry Grima .
Both of them didn't appeared to me but instead Ninja Laevatein come to mine and im honestly excited , so i can use Brave Axe unit xd

Super helpful! I only understood some simple things before like the color overlay and whatnot, never bothered to read the whole book of summoning mechanics. Once you've finished part 2, what do you think about doing this for AI? I know you've touched on it before but doing it in this style would really help drill it into my and others heads
an AI guide would be great, but to be really honest, I'm not sure I understand enough about it to execute it in a good way. summoning is pretty much straight forward, but the AI works so differently for different setups that nearly every map would need an own guide, and even then it's often hard to tell what will happen unless you know the slot order of the enemy team @_@ even watching my own replays I sometimes don't understand what the AI is doing even though I watch the same team again and again... I hate the AI xD

My high struggle summon session was Hero Fest pulling on Shinon with each free 20 orbs getting nothing. Then, last 9 hours left, spent last 20 orbs getting only 2nd Leila with pity rate 6,53%. I hope A Hero Rises 2021 banner can make ez summons on 2 pulls, otherwise the Wallet will die for orb packs. Also, thank you for this video on summons.
that's rough. It sadly can go either way though, nothing is guaranteed in this game. That's why Forma Halls are actually my most favorite game-mode, they provide all the gameplay fun of the game without having to think about money even once... assuming you're not hardcore collecting skills for a forma soul ^^
@@Eldervi Yeah, and i still buy the forma pack once for month looking units with best skills. Random RNG is made to pick random skills. Rein skills are still consider rare to obtain. Grail units on Hall of Forms is best way to save other grails and end quickly the grail project.

On another note, I have a hypothesis about this game you may have interest in testing. I think that your numeric player ID is used as a seed in the character pull randomization math. It explains why some folks can +10 a hero easily, while others go years without pulling a single copy of someone - i.e. I'm a day 1 player and I've never gotten a single Eiphram.
I'm not sure how testable this would be, but it seems more viable than time tables or other methods of randomization. I'm also not sure how you could test it, but thought you might want to take a crack, since you're so good at the maths. :-)
I honestly don't think I'm that good at maths xD it's an intriguing theory but I actually don't think such a system would be in the interest of IS. They want you to spend money on the game, so never getting something you want is not directly in their interest as it takes away your passion for the whole game, while being qualified to summon a specific hero with a really low orb number isn't in their favor as well. I think in the end the chances for summoning single heroes by accident (so only by the regular summoning pool or free summons) is so small, that even the added amount of chances over a long time are not nearly enough to make summoning such characters close to certain.
Great video. One minor correction. In your maths, you assumed that the 3-star & 4-star pools have the same colour distribution. However, since we have 4-star demotes that are not available in 3-star yet, that'll change the colour distribution slightly between the two pools. That shouldn't have too much impact on your numbers though.
is that so? I was wondering about that myself and was actually trying to research this, but the game lists demotes like Seteth both in the 3star and 4 star pool. Which heroes are not in the 3 star pool?
@@Eldervi After the latest round of demotes, I believe that Lex is currently the only one, who will be joined by Linhardt. The list will continue to grow during the year, until the demotes next year.

At the moment I cannot be mad at the summoning. The last 2 weeks were a blessing for me. I got everything I wanted with very very low orb spending (I am f2p). More than that, I got very good 5 star units on random summonings all the time. Not sure whats happening, but aslong as I am this lucky I´ll spend few more orbs until it stops.

Thanks for the guide about summoning. Thankfully im used to play gacha games. For some reason I even surprised myself when i get a first summon five star. I got duo sigurd in my first summon in the double special or even have a Nailah on a forging bond tickets. The weirdest one is in the free pull, i wanna get pirate Tibarn because im a sucker for hot men, then i got a dancer dorothea which made me, whoa... theirs like a 3 houses in resonant battles at the time, I don't have three houses dancers and I was like, is this for real? Talk about coincidence... For mine specifically, I have four colorless and one red...
But the bad news is whenever i get lucky in Feh, I ended up having bad luck in genshin! Yuck...
Oh wow with Duo Sigurd you indeed were so lucky! I would love to have one, he's such an amazing unit! Congratulations on your lucky pulls but also sorry to hear that you seam to have luck just for one game and not for both.
So when IS adds stuff like 4 star focus heroes and 4 star specials to the summoning pool, does that increase chances of getting 5 stars or focus units even if it's only by a small difference or are these mechanics added in adjusted to be just as rare while making the 3-4 star pool still very prominent?
I actually covered this question in the second part =D 4 star focus heroes do increase also the odds for the other colors, as the chance is taken out of the usual 4-star rate, so, so the other colors have "3% less " to fear about a 4-star hero. The effect is very minimal though, with only ~20 orbs difference to +10 a unit on average, but it's nice to know ^^

In the end, the chances of you getting your hero of choice is 50/50, because you either get him or you don't
I DID get a colorless orb on my free summon. It just so happens that I got Sephiran, who was probably the only unit I DIDN'T really want lol.
But on the other hand, I +10'ed Raphael in around 550ish orbs and on my second account, I managed to +10 Shinon in around 900ish orbs, which is pretty damn good luck. So its a mixed bag for me lol.
The issue lies with not what what values are truly good value. Outside of the Hero Fest banners, everything else seems kinda shitty. ESPECIALLY Legendary Banners as my luck is always awful on those.
I'm sure tons of AR players are reading this, scratching out their own eyes simply from imagining someone not wanting a free sephiran xDDDD

In the next banner of Hero Rise what do you recommend speaking about probabilitys? I have 2 accounts
Account 1: 2100 orbs (two copys of Lyn already) but i don't know if with my orbs i have Better chances of getting +10 units in blue
Account 2: 1500+ orbs (3 Seiros and 3 Dimitris already) it's possible or likely that i reach a +10 unit with that amount?
well, it's of course possible, and I did cover the AHR banner with all chances in the second part, so you may watch that for the full analysis.
the average number for 11 copies are 1850 orbs, so 1500 for 8 copies or 2100 for 9 or 11 both sound reasonable. I guess it comes down more to the units you really want to have, I would argue (unpopular) that Lyn and Corrin are better than Seiros and Dimitri, but seeing as you already have those two on the second account, this will be the best chance you will ever get to +10 them if that's your goal :D

the best odds would be if he ended up on a 3 person skill banner, might not be too unlikely given that the has fury, chill and rein, all three of them would make good future skill banners.

While Lys has rerun, all CYL Fests bar CYL 3 because that group didn't get a Legendary Banner rerun, has been in Late April-Early May, regardless if the group has run premptively. Either way I'd be fine with a skills banner or the rerun of the base banner which would still line up in the time frame.
well, it would be great if we got a hero fest, I was just assuming as the CYL3 Hero Fest was the one we got for the anniversary it might be off, but you are right, CYL2 Hero Fest was around April, so maybe IS will be generous with us ^^

For a gacha game, the spike thing in 40 th summon is very friendly. Now, I always wait to summon using this, and choice the unit I most want... all others banners, I pass now.

If i were a summon streamer, i would have compiled a spreadsheet to calculate my chances during summon sessions, and show it on screen.
That way, it would be more fun and engaging for the viewers and my sanity!
I've tried to do something similar in my previous summoning videos, but working on this one gave me also a new idea I'd like to try for my big summoning session in march ^-^
Wow with a summoning system like this I still somehow managed to pull every unit on the freyja and triandra mythic banner a while back.
Well, we are only talking about average results, to get these there have to be players at both the lucky and the unlucky side ^-^
@@ElderviI guess I was pretty damn lucky for that banner. Haven't been as lucky since though especially on L!Claudes banner and also on the current 3H banner with Marianne, I wasn't even getting much blue stones. But it's fine once I reach 40 summons, I'm gonna be sparking for her anyways

@@Eldervi I'm so glad it exists. Almost at 40 summons and managed to pull an Ingrid but with -spd iv. She still outspeeds alot units despite having -spd. Still wish it could've been +spd though.
I tried to get ascended fjorm with like 70 orbs and got a lot of merric, bartre and seth (whenever i picked red)
I didn't get a green or colourless orb. Only red and blue. I got VConrad...

For your calculation of the 4 Star Special pool you made a big mistake as you included Laegjarn who is not in that pool. You also excluded Alm, Azura, Linde, and Amelia so that means there are 75 units in that pool with 31 Red, 18 Blue, 16 Green, and 11 Colorless. Asides from that though it is a very informative video.
that's indeed true, many thanks for telling me. I was afraid something like this might happen by the sheer amount of units @_@ thankfully the deviations are very low and also in pools which have low chances by themselves, so the presented end-numbers don't change in an impactful way, but I will fix it should I ever feel the need to do a 3rd video of the series, so many thanks for telling me =D

I did get a colorless orb, and it was Xane. The only demote possible, what are the chances of that ? So what is worse, getting no colorless orb so you know you are out of that pool for the beginning or getting a colorless orb and it being the worst possible case?

I feel like the reason why 99% of the FEH payer base are left unsatisfied every time they leave a summoning session with four 4-star heroes and one 3-star unit is because IS doesn't add any value to 4-star heroes in the first place. A small quality update where they introduce a reason for players to actually use 4-stars other than for merge projects and "high quality" fodder would be appreciated. Maybe a game mode where 4-star heroes are permitted to battle only, with acceptable rewards (extra feathers for the chance to unlock potential). Those are my two cents on the subject.
that's actually very true. I would have loved an update by now which let's them upgrade their tier3 skills to tier 4 skills with additional SP. They could make an exclusive border for that, so Hinata can learn Fury 4 as a 4 or 5 star, but you can only fodder fury 3 from him.

I got 3 5* Linhardt and honestly I kinda hate it. I mean I was mainly pulling colorless in hopes of getting the last Lena I need to +10 her but Linhardt just keeps coming over to ruin the day as a 5*.

Everyone's complaining about not getting a colorless orb like okay buddy it gave me my fourth Mia you're not missing out
it's just because we are used to be stuffed with colorless orbs while they always have the shitties units on them, and the one time it's the other way round we suddenly don't get the colorless-filled circles anymore xDDD
Now I see how it felt so hard for me to merge my Brave Claude +10 even with 2100+ FTP orbs. If the game hadn't given 2 copies for free I'm not sure I would have managed to merge him instantly like that since I got the 9th and last copy after like... 1700 orbs or so which is really a lot compared to the orbs I used. If I tried merging Lysithea or Edelgard I bet it would have taken me 1000 orbs or something probably
I'm sorry to hear your merging summoning session didn't go that well. To merge colorless units can truly be a pain, I'm sure Edelgard would have been easier, yes. But still congrats on your +10 Claude, that's amazing!
