In today's episode, it's my last donated game for a while as I wrap things up with Voodoo Vince! Only learning about this now, so let's just hope this isn't one of those forgettable relics of the early 2000s.

Fun fact: Phil Spencer names this as his favorite game. A big part of what makes it so special to him (aside from being partially involved in its development) is that it’s the first game he beat alongside his daughters.
That's one of the most wholesome reasons for loving a game that I've seen.

An unexpected detail that I’m really enjoying in these recent reviews is how Johnny seems to be getting looser with his vocals during script readings. He’s noticeably chuckling, laughing and sighing a LOT more and I like that extra little quality. Makes his reviews feel more authentic and personal. XD

I like how Johnny had the exact same problem of not having an Xbox in the first donator's marathon, seven years ago.
Here's a piece of Bionicle trivia! Using their previous series as a springboard that has similar themes, Bionicle's working title was Voodoods.
Hearing Johnny say "Skill issue grandpa" so casually is very funny for some reason.

I looked it up and it's because it was the first game he finished with his daughters. That's wholesome as hell.
@@Civilian08 I find it funny that while that is wholesome, were also talking about a dude who played a game with his daughter that in said game has a vudo doll hurting himself to kill enemies and some enemies get sliced in half. I just find that ironic.

Naughty dog sure loved their spins back in the day. The way Vince stalls a bit in the air with the spin reminds me of jak and daxter.
Ahh, my childhood Xbox game of choice. Glad to see you cover this, John! Generally agree with most of what you said, but you're right, the soundtrack is brilliant. A fun fact is that its composer is actually responsible for the _Farmville theme_ of all things (and he was even kind enough to send a child me some of VV's unreleased tracks via email back in the day, when I messaged him about them. Class act.)
Do you still have those tracks? I feel like those need to be archived on the internet somewhere.
@@bundjohn Just one! It's Dolly's boss theme. But that being said, I think all the tracks are pretty easily accessed through the remaster's PC files now iirc.

Do my eyes deceive me? Johnny is covering the game of my childhood!! It has so many good concepts, bizarre aesthetics, and a stellar jazz soundtrack. Looking back, I really wish it was a bit more fleshed out and its ideas were realized more; the idea of remastering the game also brought along an opportunity to add some gameplay improvements.

One of my favorite games growing up as a kid. that era of gaming is so special to me
Just like Vexx, the most experience I have with Voodoo Vince is from a demo (though this time, it came from the game demos section on Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge), and I fell in love with the game, from the characters, to the gameplay, and (to an extent) the humor (no joke, one of Kosmo's minions asking where the pickles are for making a sandwich, and due to the low resolution of TVs at the time, I thought the guy was a giant pickle)
Years later, I would finally get a copy of the game, unfortunately, I'm stuck at the Gatekeeper Jam, because pattern memorization puzzles are the bane of my existence, but I want to overcome it eventually to see what the rest of the game offers, as this was a game I wanted for years. (though, nothing will EVER top Blinx The Time Sweeper, the one game I wanted the most in my childhood)
Lastly, Voodoo Vince is just another reason why I find the Original Xbox to be the best Xbox, as it had the most diverse library of games, which I would love to talk about, but that's a story for another time.

One of the many bizarrely interesting 3D platformers found on the OG Xbox.
I discovered Voodoo Vince only a year ago and it is now one of my favorite platformer collectathons. And that music is awesome!
First thing I thought of when looking at the cover to this game was “Looks like if the movie ‘9’ had a cartoon spin-off.”
I mean 9 is already animation. It would be more of "What if 9 had a adult swim spin off"

God I loved Voodoo Vince, but I haven’t played it in ages due to the remaster and lack of backwards compatibility lmao
Hey Johnny, can you look at Conker's bad fur day and it's remake as a single review? For the original, you can get the collection Rare Replay on Xbox one and get a smooth 60 fps/1080p version of the original, which is the definitive way to play the game.
Unless it’s a donation game like in this video, he doesn’t do Instant game requests I’m afraid. But hopefully when he does do the inevitable Rare marathon (that’s NOT only focused on their classic Donkey Kong or Banjo Kazooie games), I’m sure he’ll put it under consideration. I want to stress, I’m not in ANY way speaking for him, just letting you know how his content rolls.
Does Johnny have a Copy of the Original on the Nintendo 64 ? I know he was Team Sony during the 64-bit Era.
@@thenightmare9368 There was a port of the original to the Xbox one through the Rare Replay collection. Live and Reloaded was a 2005 remake.

I never played Voodoo Vince. Up until I saw a video for this game's bosses the most I'd ever seen of this game was Vince in a little group on one of the pages of the instruction manual for Blinx 2.
It’s at least cool that this game is backwards compatible. I actually first learned of this game from RebelTaxi in one of his game on Xbox exclusives.

If you are wondering why Voodoo Vince is not on the backwards compatibility list, it mainly to due to issues involving custom code from what I understand

For just a couple seconds, you built up my hopes Johnny. And then you said Ratchet & Clank instead of Jak & Daxter, and instantly shattered them. Well played.
This, Vexx, and Zapper were three games that I'd always see whenever I went into a Gamestop/EB Games growing up and they always caught my interest, but I just never picked them up. So I appreciate these videos that show them off and critique them. I can see 7 year old me probably liking Voodoo Vince. That and Vexx both look like pretty alright games, definitely of the time and show their age now. But in the early-mid 2000s? Looked like some pretty promising stuff.
Oh boy, I can't wait to see you finally tackle the R&C games, which is coinvent, since the first game in the series is celebrating it's 20th anniversary this year. ^^

I'm from Louisiana and aside from this and resident evil 7 not many games really capture that atmosphere, I love this games soundtrack it just feels very at home to me.

As soon as I saw the clips of you grappling in this game, I started looking for my copy of Ratchet and Clank, so that ending reveal was highly exciting. It's crazy how similar the grappling looked. I hope you have fun with the Ratchet series
I'm glad to see someone else also enjoying their time with Voodoo Vince, I haven't played myself due to me not being a Xbox guy, I would likely enjoy it possibly as much as Johnny did here with the Platforming and Presentation and all, but yeah Ratchet and Clank next for Johnny's marathon heck yes, I'm quite a fan of the series, played all of the games aside from the mobile titles and I can say Johnny will enjoy his time on the series, even if it's just the PS2 games alone.

I remember this game got a highlight on GameTV (Canada) alongside *Knights Of The Old Republic* outside of being a commercial for the release, the hosts didn't sing particular praise for the game (except vehicle control), they played the clip @5:16

Interesting to hear Voodoo vince is one of those hidden gems of its era, even if its not a smash hit. But man I'm excited for the next marathon now that I've seen the game in question(no spoilers for those who haven't seen the video yet), its a series I grew up with after seeing a family member play it, and through its ups and down its been at least fun to play through, so I think you'll enjoy the games you look at Johnny, but for now hope you feel better soon since it sounds like you're still dealing with the aftermath of covid, so take care of yourself too man. Seeya in the next review.

@@TheSuperSmashBros01 He did say he was not going to be covering the entire series in one go. I grew up with the PS2 games (they're some of my first gaming memories), so I am very excited to see what he has to say about them (especially 2/Going Commando, that one is my favorite).
@@hypno3057 Oh yeah that’s still my favorite of the PS2 games. Dreadlock was a game I played a bit of and I was pleasantly surprised. It’s much more dark than it’s predecessors but it’s fun with its additional combat, grim atmosphere and sweet weapons.

The theme never struck a chord with me so I never checked it out when it was current. That said, after watching this review, it looks pretty fun.
I remember this game as a kid never properly owned it but I remember playing the demo at the demo kiosks stores used to have at a toys r us when I was 5 or 6

I remember enjoying this back in the day, and I feel it had a lot of potential. Like yeah, its kinda short, but there is enough here that if they'd done a sequel, or something, their next game if built apon this would have been kinda amazing.
