The fact that "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run" is being sent to die on streaming platforms makes me feel dead inside. Purple Lamp Studios had to rush this game to co-inside with the movie, and it was all for nothing.
Also, they had to develop this on 4 different systems. That probably didn't help.
article sauce?
Sent to die? I think that it'll do pretty well on streaming services, considering that a lot of studios have been pleasantly surprised at how well their new films have done online in a time without movie theaters.
"sent to die" Nah man, the scooby doo movie made alot of money and was also stream only
@@orionAAD Actually, it didn't.
WB never released numbers but it's estimated by the fact that there was already a $5 price drop and that it was coming to HBOMax a month later, that the film made significantly less money than Trolls World Tour(possibly made 40% Less than Trolls)
I could live with listening to Narrator Johnny commentating over my life.
That would be awesome
Lol
Who do you think would be better: Morgan Freeman, or Narrator Johnny, to narrate your life?
Same.
Yes
The switch control scheme is meant to emulate the game cube version, so when played with those wireless GC controllers or with the GC Adapter it works fine
Wait really? Dude thats actually sick
Smart man, finally someone gets it.
How many Switch games can be played with a Gamecube controller, anyway?
@@smashmaster521 a good amount as long as the pro controller is usable
If that's what they were going for I feel like they failed
'I got the rest of this year booked'
Oh yeah I totally forgot about the Final Fantasy marathon! Right! Right...?
Realistically it’d probably be just the 2d ones, up to 6. Even then that’s a lot.
Think he might jump to Onimusha this year?
you mean Resident Evil?
If he want's to do a final fantasy marathon, he'd probably should do one game once a month.
Hopefully we get a Megaman Zero/ZX review series...hopefully.
Fun Fact:
There appear to have been plans to include more previously scrapped content from the original game in this remaster, based off of an old interview with the developers and some of the in game files. Which includes scrapped bosses (which would have probably included the robot Squidward) and a scrapped dream level in the main game. But it appears they had to scrap those ideas again due to the developers being forced to rush for the original new Spongebob movie release date.
And judging from how that movie got delayed due to the Covid-19 related stuff they were forced to rush development for nothing.
Its a real shame that the ideas for this remake was scrape (e.g. the scrapped bosses and one dream level), because if they also delayed that game too, this could have been amazing. Guess will have to wait until next time when they remake SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom again.
"Kelp Forest, oh my god, I can actually see what I'm doing now, it's night and day."
I see what you did there.
Now we just need a SpongeBob Movie Rehydrated and I'll be satisfied!
Lights Camera Pants Rehydrated
Or how about a Creature from the Krusty Krab Rehydrated
I want CFTKK Rehydrated.
That would be awesome
HarmonyBunny that be great!!
I like how you actually used the moving water effect on the intro rather than a still image. Gives us the illusion that this was sponsored by Nickelodeon, despite that this video has no paid promotion.
Also the first parody to use the HD graphics and intro
*sees Johnny upload a Rehydrated video*
Me: Im ready
I love Johnny, but I'm more looking forward to Fawful's Minion's review of it. He has some big a** nostalgia for the OG game.

@@BigSmoke-xh5hi Nope.
@@BigSmoke-xh5hi Sounds good.
John, serious question, how do you manage to pump out these rereviews one after another? Is it by the magical power of Raycon?
Wouldn't be surprised if he has some ready. And maybe does multiple games at a time. But idk im just guessing
Motivation, experience, low stress levels. Drinking coffee? That's my guess to his super powers.
If he were to have Cutting Edge Gamer, then Johnny would be unstoppable.

@@thegroove14 I know lol.
So glad I finally got to play this, I've always been a huge SpongeBob fan and I was deprived of games as a kid, so playing this for the first time as an adult was such a treat.
And I'm glad to read comments like these of adults being able relive the games of my childhood :)
Love that profile pic my friend.
@@kylerhumann8341 Thanks been using it for such a long time, almost couldn't imagine changing it
Is it any good? I would love to give it a try soon.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 If you're a fan of the show, definitely. A lot of the appeal comes from getting to explore locations from the early seasons (though every location included is still recurring in the series to this day) and all the neat references it has to the show, while also just being a solid collectathon game in its own right. Just don't get the Switch version, that's the version I have, and it's pretty fucky in a lot of ways

I'm not saying it....
Did you donate George of the Jungle and the search for the secret on ps2 to Caddicarus?
7:36 Agreed, that's why I find it sad the remake for Shadow of the Colossus didn't add in the monsters that were cut from the original. Or the recent RE remakes are adding one or two things but removing a ton of monsters that were in the original. At least when the first Resident Evil was remade they didn't remove any monsters (any that weren't exclusives) and added Lisa in who was cut out of the original.
Whether it be movies or video games, remakes should do these 3 things:
Improve, Add, and Preserve
0:22 Man, couldn’t even wait 30 seconds before the petty attacks
Hearing that the first donator's marathon being five years old blows my mind.
yeah it was a very solid remake, I digged it a lot thou I felt some areas could have been improved more
"Are ya ready kids!"
Oh I am so F%cking ready!!!
Johnny: mentions Halo 2
Me: It’’s obviously a hint for the *HALO MARATHON*
That would be fucking sick
I’d love that, it’d be awesome... but I’ll do you one better:
*Marathon Marathon*
A johnny marathon of Halo would be amazing (though it would be hard to top Raycevick's comprehensive breakdowns of the games)
This is probably my favorite review channel. It's just so down to earth
No cap dude
Wait a second...
Huh, weird how much pop in there is on the consoles versions. On PC, at least from my experience, there's 0 pop in and the grass renders pretty much the entire way through the level.
I loved this game on the GameCube growing up. I honestly never knew it was popular enough to get a remake.
Always happy to see another Johnny video. You pumping these out real quick lately man shits awesome
Hey Johnny, great video as always! Love to see this game get more attention. I'm actually a member of the speedrunning community surrounding both rehydrated and the original game. So, I was very happy to see you bring it up when talking about why Rehydrated even exists. The speedrun of the og is my favorite speedrun of all time, there's so much tech and skips and other things that make the entire run really fun to watch. You showed a clip of an AGDQ run of BfBB from 2017, and the runner there, SHiFT, does speedruns of both rehydrated and the og every day on Twitch. I highly recommend checking his stream out, the community is super welcoming and always eager to share our passion for the game!
Also, SHiFT is currently working on a 4 part series detailing the history of BfBB speedrunning on his RUclips channel. Parts 1 and 2 are already out and are amazing, so I recommend watching those too if you're interested!
That intro was near perfect. That voiceover was hilarious.
I'M READY, REMASTERED I'M READY, REMASTERED
Great review! its also cool you have other spongebob games to review in the future. I’ll be looking forward to that content as well.
Really good video. Most of these games I honestly don’t consider playing, but I LOVE to listen to your voice and jokes. Keep it up!
I wonder if he'll look into the other Spongebob games
I can't wait for the CFTKK review
Same!
I remember really liking the game as a kid on the PS2 (a lot of creative levels and nods to the show), but kid me got stuck on (what I assume was) the final racing minigame
I literally bought the game for my ps2 collection a week before the rehydration got anounced. I was like huh. If anyone wants anything remade lmk and ill buy it for my ps2 collection and in about a week you'll see trailers lol
absolutely nothing can calm me down like watching one of johnny's reviews. really needed this today.
Yeah it feels like coming home sorta
I would like to say thank you for the video I’m going through a lot of emotional trauma and depression and your content has always been a good mechanism to cope with it
I love the game it’s a reminder of a simpler time when there were no microtransactions, lootboxes and incomplete games 😊
BfBB was incomplete though
Its riddled with problems the original didn't have tho
it was, and still is incomplete though, and riddled with bugs and graphical errors
Incomplete games have always existed unfortunately.
Incomplete games were just as common if not moreso. For example Tomb Raider: Dark Angel, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, Crash Twinsanity, Kingdom Hearts II, Drake of the 99 Dragons, and even Zelda Wind Waker
The only things I dislike about the remake so far are:
- The very inconsistent volume on music & sound effects
- The slower cruise missile (with no button to make it travel as fast as the original did)
- Boxes doing a lame fadeout and being much harder to jump into
- Sandy's lack of a double jump animation after swinging with her rope
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the inconsistent volume on stuff like that. Also not only that, but whenever I died during a boss fight the fish guy would stop narrating which was sad.
YO! this is exactly what I need right now. Thanks, brah. Rainy day, burger in hand, and a friendly face talkin bout videogames.

The controls aren't even the worst of it in the Switch version. The running is clearly not properly configured for the joy-con sticks, so whenever you try to move diagonally, Spongebob tiptoes and there is no way to remedy it. It makes platforming a pain in the ass. I really wish I'd waited but the Switch is my newest console and I just wanted games for it.
I love the effort your putting in your recent vids , reminds me of the old times with skits and animations , love all your work though
considering covid shut everything down unless it was vital to living and the planned ending of sgb anyway he probably has more time on his hands to make fancier videos
They included the Surprised Patrick and SpongeBob memes from the movie.
That alone makes the remake worth playing in my book.

Its crazy we're getting this weird "Return of Middle Shelf Games but Remastered" era going. I kinda love it having these games get some love. Can't wait to see Dr. Muto, Army Men - Sarge's War, or God forbid, BLINX come back...
Currently homeless but some things never change. Thanks for uploading Johnny :)
I wish you luck.
I hope things get better for you.
These must be especially trying times for you. All I can say is hang in there
Wait what? You’re homeless but you have a phone to type up this comment? Can you explain this?
Wait you’re not homeless, is this some kind of joke I’m not getting? I’m probably gonna get “whooshed” even if it isn’t reddit.
The game could definitely use a graphics patch. I've been having a really annoying issue on the X1 version where the golden aura that is supposed to surround certain collectibles (like the golden spatulas that are completely necessary for progression) is just completely not there. At all. Ever. I've walked right past spatulas because I just didn't see them at first.
I was literally watching your original review not too long ago today. Time to watch this!
Always love watching your videos. I'll keep watching your videos as long as you're making em!
"Thirty bucks is a little steep"
I disagree, especially when we've had remakes of games go for full price, with similar length and graphical issues.
*Eyes wander over to Link's Awakening*
It's half the price of a usual game, this is a game for kids and they'll likely play it to death much like we did as kids with the original.
I think a lot of reviewers are forgetting that aspect when it comes to this game. It is made for fans of the original, yes, but there's a generation of people who have not experienced this game. And were the original target demographic when it was released.
The game has a bunch of issues the original didn't have so meh not worth $30 honestly
@@toooydoeur And it has some quality of life improvements to make the adventure more comfortable at times. So yeah, the 30$ price tag is fair.
It’s also already a massively fun speedgame
I definitely agree. In an ago 60 dollar triple A games, 30 bucks for a console game isn’t a bad deal.
I didn't play it, but what issues did the Link's Awakening Remake have (unless you're talking about the art style)?
As a zoomer myself, No-one has thrown a dab in 4 score and seven years
He extended the video by 7 seconds with the rainbow comment. God, I love this man.
“Robots are running the navy!”
“No not the Navy!”
I feel like if this had been a remake of the movie as well for $40 it would’ve been the perfect price/content ratio.
I like how this Spongebob game had more love put into it than Last of Us 2.
Really, I know the game is not loved like the first game but they did put a lot of love into the game, it’s naughty dog.
Oh dear. Do you think johnny will review tlou 2?
@@laurenchinsphealsupremacis9978
I doubt it. I don think he's a fan. I never heard him bring up the first game
Going for the easy likes, huh
@@frogglen6350 Phew. Good. From what I've heard the sequel has a TERRIBLE story which wouldn't be a bad thing if the game wasn't so story driven.
Great video John, I always look forward to your reviews = )
I did expect this video to be soon but not this soon. Good Video.
Yeah I got the switch version immediately when I heard the game came out... yeah I definitely wanna go and get the PS4 version instead. I ain’t kidding, my eyes hurt playing the Switch version.
Yeah, I preordered the Switch version, only to find out it had a PC version as well. Now I wish I had gotten that.
Aren't ya going a bit overboard I got the switch version looks fine runs fine seems to be less glitchy then johns version from what i played (only got one glitch in downtown bikini bottom where sponge bob began to glow.) really the only thing largely worse i saw was the pop in and people were going on only switch had it but from this video i know that isn't the case so ya thats my piece
Nevets Gilbert my eyes hurt looking it at. It’s so damn pixelated around the edges but the center of the models look smooth and it just doesn’t work for me. Add the fact the screen shakes every time you smack something (which is a terrible addition if you ask me). It just visually sucks on the switch. And my god why is spongebob so damn heavy? Like damn I don’t remember the GameCube version having much weight behind spongebob, but it’s super apparent here and it’s throwing my platforming off a lot. Hopefully the other console versions don’t have the character feel as weighty as he does on the switch.
@@oomsou5018 The weight thing probably doesn't bug me because I never played the original and though I don't see what your talking about with the pixelated edges I guess its your eyes and I guess you do what you got to to get the most out of this game I'm happy with the portable version of this fun game though
Fun fact. The switch version also can just stop working sometimes. I’ve had it boot me back to the main menu about 2-4 times. So yeah that’s also a problem
😟 Yeesh. And I wanted to get this for _Switch._ Once I _get_ a Switch, that is.
John Bues oh I just remembered another problem, not sure if it’s a switch only one, but the load times between deaths compared to the original is bad. Really bad. Original took 3 seconds rehydrated takes about a sonic 06 loading screen.
@@thetrophygamer3606 Wow, ive played both the PC and PS4 versions and they load back up after about 3-5 seconds after death
Really? I hadn't encountered this problem, and I played the switch version.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel that Spongebob moves a bit too slow in this compared to the remake
Keep things short? Nah man. Your 20+ min videos keeps me invested.
Oh no that dab made me very sad..sorry you had to see that Johnny
I wanna see Breaking Da Rulez or Shadow Shadowdown or any of the Nicktoon Crossovers to get remastered and revived next!
Me too! I would love a Tak remakr
spongebob marathon when?
OH MY GOODNESS DUDE!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME YOU WON A SUB!!!!! idk ur just an interesting dude and I think your really good at what u do!!!! keep up the good work dude!!!!! bless ur heart!!!!!!!
2:02 I fucking died at that part. Never thought Johnny would touch THAT.
7:27, so he's using his imagination to attack.
I was iffy on the remake since I heard many times over that the controls are kinda stiff sometimes, and the pop up and Switch issues kinda turned me off. If they patch it up, I'd be more than willing to give it a shot. Instill have my old copy in my dresser, but BFBB portable would be amazing personally.
I would say to just wait a year or so and get it on a Steam sale when it's $5 or less. By that point, everything will be patched (hopefully), and you'll be getting a much better deal.
People complain too much, honestly it’s not even that bad, plus it was again a rushed development AND they lost months of work due to corona.
@@BigSmoke-xh5hi There's no "complaining too much." It's a paid product and people critique it.
@@BigSmoke-xh5hi Most people who care critique because they wish for a better product, even if they bought and enjoyed it. If there was no such thing as criticism, nothing in life will ever improve.
We understand the situations surrounding development, but that doesn't mean it is exempt from criticism. Also understand that people who have jobs want to make sure their anticipated product is worth every penny, remember this is also marketed toward the older generation.

@@johncreche671 Fixed it.
Somecallmejohnny and spongebob. Two of my favorite things.
I was kind of expecting a Round Two review but this is just as fine.
I can attest to Johnny's point on the switch version, it really felt unpolished. I just came here after beating the game 100% and I can say that it had a LOT of graphical quirks. It still looks nice, but the draw distance and the load times as well as frame rate was all over the place. It honestly made me feel a little sad to see this since I really enjoyed the one on the gamecube back then.
Also screw that sea saw puzzle. Thank goodness I wasn't the only one that had that problem. I chocked it up to the switch version but to hear the ps4 has that problem too worries me...
2:40 I've said it once, and I'll say it again: memes never die. At worst, they simply go into hibernation.
Besides, with how absolutely meme worthy Spongebob is, this is something I was kinda expecting to see.
Something worth noting with the PS4 and Switch versions is there's a bug with the save system. For whatever reason, the game might not save even though the auto save symbol is on screen. It happened to me the day after I got the game and lost about 2 hours of progress. It deleted a large chunk of my spatulas, socks and currency and I even managed to get one achievement twice somehow. I managed to get it all back but I feel this can backup Johnny's statement about the game being possibly rushed.
Crazy to think i was around when you did the original bfbb video. Its come full circle
Now this is *bubbly* and *refreshing*
Ill seek myself out
@Vynter Stormfell hopefully it isn't too hard to find himself
Aside from the poor optimization (which is most likely thanks to the pandemic and Nickelodeon straining the the development, not the devs), I really enjoyed it. I meant to get to this game for years, and in spite of its jank, it's a very competent platformer and as a Spongebob fan, I already have some bias going in. Hope the devs can get a patch out (but with a better dev time), though.
I'm waiting for Johnny vs. The Spongebob SquarePants Movie Game!

OOHOO was not expecting this so early!
This generation dose suck and I'm a part of it also love the intro
Everyone says that about every single generation of kids. Let's not forget that there was a generation of kids who would lie in the middle of the road and wait for cars to nearly run them over as a game.
@@linguicaguy yeah but dose not mean it isn't true
Another multi-platform game being worse on the Switch?
*Pretend to be shocked*
For the Multi-player mode, I had the unfortunate experience of COMPLETING it with another player online, a complete stranger on the switch version and that session ACTUALLY lasted 2 hours and the whole thing is pretty much one massive gauntlet of enemies with the only damage the robot Squidward takes is destroying his Tentacles until you reach around level 40 where you finally beat the robot boss. And the game just boots you out to the main menu
6:30: I feel like since the movie's release was delayed, I feel like THQ should've also taken advantage of the opportunity to not also make sure the game still coincided with the movie's later release, but also take the extra time to do some additional fixing.
It's called "Rehydrated" because Johnny makes me thirsty. :p
Oh thank god, I'm not the only one who noticed Halo 2's pop-in.

Antdude does the narrator voice, now Johnny, I love it.
Omg! The accent at the start is PERFECT!
5:53 Just an observation, but I'm guessing what's happening there is that as you try to jump off the seesaw, it keeps springing back up beneath your feet, cutting your jump early because you've hit ground again.
I'd say $30 is a rather generous price really.
