- Nickelodeon's famous little spongeboy has starred in many video games, but I guess you can consider this the first big one, released in 2003 for the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox. Robots are on the loose all over town, and because it's Bikini Bottom, it's up to Spongebob, Patrick, and Sandy to save the day.
Can't wait for a Round 2 for this when the remaster comes out XD
I'm so excited I'm going to pre-order it next month or two I'm so excited it might have multiplayer for the campaign according to the trailer description can't wait to play this with my fiancee

it is not a remaster it is a Remake. remaster is just the old game with better textures and less bugs. a remake is like the name says a complete remade game that gets build up from the start with better Graphics as well as new game mechanics.

I love this game just as much, the only problem I have with it is that it can be too easy sometimes. A life counter would be nice
+Dion Bullock nah I life counter would ruin the overall experience. sections like kelp slide and mr. krabs dream would be ruined and the game would be more rage inducing then fun. as a matter of fact I find the difficulty VERY well balanced. the way it holds your hand in the first level and then the difficulty just goes up from there. :D

Eh, I just didn't have the brightness turned up high enough.
As a kid, I always purposely avoided the stage due to the darkness and tedious cave puzzle.
I recently started playing it on a newer TV with higher brightness settings. My god does the level change when you can actually see what you're doing.
Idk why but i never had much difficulty with this stage. But to complete it i had the jack the brightness all the way up on my tv to see anything, and i was much older too at the time (12 versus 7). Its not too bad but the stage that pissed me off the most was the chain reaction puzzle in the mermalair😩😩
To get to the cave, I didn't even do the thing with the Tikis. I just used a rock to get to that ledge.

I can tell why you didn't watch the show after the movie, because episodes after that were atrocious (don't get me wrong there were good ones) but after a while they didn't care about it and thought they could get away with anything, after the movie the creator left because he thought it was good at 3 seasons, and that's the story. Now the movie in theaters was written by the creator and Paul Tibbit so I have hopes for the movie, plus rumor is going around that the creator is coming back after the movie so I don't know what's going to happen next with SpongeBob, all we can do is wait.

Yea I hate the show after around episode 170ish. The rest of the show is what gives it such a bad rap, which is a shame, because it used to be a genuinely clever and funny show with many memorable episodes. (The episodes where they sell chocolate and squidward getting a band together for the bubble bowl were hilarious)

Simon Barr Same here, the movie wasn't as funny as the first three seasons, but it's still fun. It's on the same level as that episode where Spongebob and Patrick went into medieval times.
Oh the memories. Being a humongous SpongeBob fan as a kid, this game was just enthralling. Being able to play through damn near every iconic SpongeBob location from the show was amazing.

Lights! Camera! Pants! is a surprisingly solid game. It's not exactly Mario Party quality, but I think it has it's own unique charms that make it a great game, and loads of fun (The minigames you played with Squilliam and the ones that were in the jail were some of my favorites). I'd love to see a review on other SpongeBob, because most of them were pretty good, with a few bad apples here and there.

I HAVE to mention how incredible Movie's game was. I never played BFBB, so I had no clue just HOW similar they were until Johnny's review.
Spongebob Movie has the exact same engine as BFBB, and in fact, movesets are nearly copy-pasted with graphical alterations. The bubble missile, for example, is simply some wavelength attack using Spongebob's guitar. Design-wise, it fits the film to a T. They use the resources very fittingly, the music is INCREDIBLE, and manages to sidestep even Spongebob standards. The art is interesting and accurate, the voice acting, humor, and animation is far more entertaining and smooth compared to BFBB, and as a small saving grace, that ball form is segregated to special stages that cater to the play style.
If John has a chance to, he needs to try the Spongebob Movie game. It is fantastic, and after BFBB, it should be fairly familiar territory.

Holy shit I'm hyped for that. This game was straight up my early childhood. I know it's not regarded as quite a classic game like Spyro or Crash were, but I'm more hyped for this remaster than I was for both of those ones combined.

For me, I don't rank seasons. If I like an episode, whichever Season it may be, then I like it, and I just keep it simple.
I LOVED this game! Got it as a birthday gift along with my Xbox, and I couldn't stop playing it as a kid. Some parts got a bit difficult, but I never found it unfair. Pretty overlooked licensed game if I do say so myself, had great memories with it. Oh and Fairly Odd Parents: Breakin Da Rules was really fun as well if you're looking for something similar

There was a sequel/movie tie-in using the same game engine based on the movie. It was part of my childhood.

The reason it looks colorful but washed out is because they shaded with black. You neeeeever want to shade with black, especially on _yellow_. It makes yellow look like puke green. Each object should have its own appropriate dark shade color. But that would have probably taken them too much time or they weren't arsed to care, so blanket black for all.

BfBB is a game I kinda use an example for "Don't judge a book by its cover." It seems like a generic awful licensed game. Then you actually play it, and realize it's actually pretty good. Johnny brings valid points to the things he likes/dislikes, and I respect his opinions. BfBB is one of my favorite PS2 games of all time, and I feel as if The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie took everything good about this game and made it better. I mean, there's also Lights! Camera! Pants! which was a really damn fun party game which didn't take many elements from Mario Party, and the Nicktoons Unite! games, mainly the first and Battle for Volcano Island. They were both pretty fun multiplayer games that, while had it's easy moments, also had it's difficult ones (Battle for Volcano Island's final section pissed me off so many damn times, and so did the bonus levels in the end. Fuck You Go, Goth! when you're doing it blind).

Honestly I think this review sells the game a bit short. I think one thing that wasn't mentioned in this review is that the game has incredibly good theming. It really takes advantage of all the world building that SpongeBob did in its first season, and incorporates that into its level theming and design, leading to an incredibly unique feel to each level.
I think that the inconveniences in the gameplay listed in this review were mostly nitpicking; the few exceptions being Kelp Forest and The Mermalair Ball Puzzle, but even then both of those are skipable if you just want to beat the game.

MY CHILDHOOD!
I loved Battle for Bikini Bottom when I was a kid! (the rube goldberg machine in Mermaid man's cave can go @#%$ can go suck a dick though.) I kinda want to go back and play it again now. I love collectathon 3D platformers like Super Mario Sunshine and this game, they never get old for me. Can't wait for the next review! :D

I've always HATED the Rude Goldberg machine. No level during my childhood had made me think "fuck it, I'll just skip this section" so much.
JRPGPirate I think the Rube Goldberg spatula was the only golden spatula I never got as a kid. Well, except for the rewards for Patrick's underwear, never found all of them.
I would always get to the end of the Rube Goldberg part and you would have to do the tilt thing and i would always lose ugggghhhhh

Great timing to be on my recommended because of the remake releasing today
This game was awesome when I was younger! It used to be my favourite game for the PS2, and even when I had to restart the game every time I turned the game off (I didn't own a Memory Card), I had a TON of fun! My favourite part that I got up to was that fight with the giant robot Sandy.
The story of my life for this game as well, no memory card, the only difference is that I made it to the cutscene of going into the mermalair (it always freezes right there) 😞

This donators marathon is what got me into Johnny's reviews, though I believe my introduction was the PlayStation video and (of course) the Crash marathon.
I'm glad to see it still holds up, and Johnny has only gotten better as time passes. Keep at it, my man!
The 1st to 3rd seasons, the first movie and very few episodes from the 4th season are were the only good parts of the show. Now the newer episodes are rather crap/boring
By far one of the most underrated games of all time, truly a platforming masterpiece that I feel deserves to be regarded in the same tier as the likes of ratchet and clank and even some of the Mario games.

Not to go out of my way to offend anyone, but as far as I'm conserned, Spongebob is doing about as well as a severe victim of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis just begging for someone to cut his life-support. It's become like a reverse of what it used to be. It used to have a consistant stream of spectacular episodes mixed with a handful of lackluster duds. Nowadays it's more like a consistant stream of atrocious garbage that borders being the cartoon equivelant of a personal offense while occasionally plopping out something decent.

+Neil Venegas Eh, while the PC version of The Spongebob Squarepants Movie wasn't the console ports, I still really enjoyed it, but then again, those point and click games were always fun for me, like Employee of the Month, but you're right with the PC version of Battle For Bikini Bottom, I played a demo and it was complete shit, hated every second of it, but like I said, sometimes PC was good or even better, the Gamecube Version of Light, Camera, Pants was horrible in my opinion, just a Minigame Collection, the PC version had an actual story and what not, something I enjoyed.

This game was my favorite game growing up, and even now, 12 years later, it still is in my top ten

I disagree. This game is easily superior.
I got the pack that came with both. I like them both equally, but the Spongebob Movie game got really difficult near the end.
***** the thing that got me the most was the ridiculously high GG tokens you needed to get things. I ended up using cheat codes just to finish the game. I still found it insanely fun though.

HalfBoiledHero Exactly. The game kept forcing you to collect a specific number of tokens before advancing. BFBB did the same thing, but it was nowhere near as obnoxious (though it did have grinding).
Too bad the new Spongebob episodes suck now.
Probably my favorite episode of the show would have to be the Krusty Krab Pizza episode. I'd imagine what was going through Tom Kenny's head when he had to sing the Krusty Krab Pizza song and how the animators reacted to how much fun he must have had to have to sing that line. Anyone who saw the earlier episodes knows what I'm talking about.

I never played this game before, but I'm actually really surprised that a licensed game based off a TV show managed to get a lot of positive receptions from many people. That's almost unheard of considering the fact that 95% of the time, licensed games based off TV shows usually ends up becoming mediocre or just plain bad.
But not Cory in the House. That game was absolutely wonderful. The best video game of all time.

Johnny the fact that people like NEW Spongebob itself is pretty sad. It is an awful show and nowhere near the comedy gold that it used to be. In fact now it is a show that actually lowers your intelligence rather than raise it.

This is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. It's a great game, and while it's like most collect-a-thon platformers, it is an excellent one at that.
This is a game I hold very dear to my heart. I have very fond memories of going to my friend's house and playing this on his ps2. We were both huge spongebob fans and we both loved this game. We never had a memory card so we couldn't save though :( This along with monster house: the game and toy story 2 were some of the first games I ever played.
