I remember one of the Fairly Odd Parents games was relatively good but we'll never see those kinda games come back. Spongebob is only here because the show is an absolute juggernaut.
6:36 That's a VA union thing. Same reason they couldn't have Clancy Brown voice Mr Krabs in this version. Take that for what you will. I think it's needless bureaucratic BS (since it's not like the VAs got royalties) but that's me.
So why was only Clancy Brown locked out for union reasons? It seems odd that he'd be allowed to sign on for Spongebob without the union approving the likelihood of spin-offs.
@@JCBro-yg8vd because he never signed on the original version, and it would be seen as unfair to the union to kick the original recordings without any artistic reason on behalf of the VA. It's a clusterfuck as already has been said.
From what I understand, they couldn't simply redo the voice acting for just one character. Legally, it had to be all or nothing, and considering Barnacle Boy's voice actor is also no longer with us, we would essentially be trading out one correct voice for another.
I was so excited for this game to come out when it got announced last year. You absolutely nailed the upsides and downsides I have for this game, so there no need to explain much of why I’m not getting BFBBR...yet. The game clearly needs more development time in the oven, until I believe it’s ready for my time and money. I mean heck, why can’t a choas physics engine, render the destructible environments when you break tikis, Duplicatotrons, and the lighthouse arena fight like the original could, that was my selling point in the original game growing up, and it’s one of the reasons I bought games like Red Faction Guerrilla; and to see that removed and only put on mainly the robots just irks me and again tells me that the game is not finished. All in all this game looks like so much potential and I know that eventually this game will truly light a candle to the original, but until then, I believe this specific quote from the game truly shows where experiencing my childhood once more lies: ruclips.net/video/f-OnIy399qk/видео.html
I just wished we could have played as the other characters in the main game :( Using Squidwards clarinet or even a reef blower mechanic would have been cool
Seeing your review of Rehydrated makes me appreciate Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey more. Say what you want about the game that killed Alphadream. But you can't deny that remake did more than just upped the graphics. It did some changes to make the game more bearable, added epic final boss songs, and even added a new game mode that, despite being repetitive, has very good story telling.
Everyone talks about how frustrating the ball rolling puzzle is, but honestly beating Larry’s time in Sand Mountain and that puzzle In Jellyfish Caverns where you have to throw a watermelon at the target but have to get past a bunch of robots, that shit is punishing
"You're in for a decent time, which is a whole lot more than you can say for the other games." *Sees Creature From the Krusty Krab* As someone who has played that game multiple times throughout their childhood, I can say that is a fair assumption.
Seeing Crash and Spyro getting remade and then we get Rehydrated. I like seeing classic games of our past coming back. Makes me hope for the Pacman World trilogy getting remade
Weird to see Clancy Brown come back for Crash, continue to star in games like Detroit: Become Human, continue his voice as Mr. Krabs in the TV show, but wasn’t called to voice Mr. Krabs either time. Sure, he was playing Baron Praxis the first time around, but there’s really no excuse at this point not to bring him back for Rehydrated.
This video helped me achieve a scenario where I am being screamed at by SpongeBob characters in Italian but can still understand what they’re saying, and for that I will be forever grateful. Thank you, AntDude, it is truly a great gift you have given us this day.
the fun thing for me is that i played rehydrated not because i needed a remake but because i really wanted to play a game that was so influential on my childhood and be able to play it constantly. we are in an age where backwards playing is more and more common we can play games from generations before on newer consoles. we needed rehydrated so we could have it for this day in age, now rehydrated can live onto people who grew up with BFBB without having to get a ps2 and play it. i'm just hoping as the generations go on we get backwards play for all of our consoles rather than just backwards play for strickly the generaion right before, or only being able to play crew few games
They can't record new voice lines due to screen actor guild rules. If they recorded new lines for Mr.Krabs, they'd have to rerecord everyone else and that would take a huge chunk out of the budget.
Also, I'm pretty sure voice actors have their own union and are not part of the Screen Actors Guild, unless they also do live-action acting as well, obviously...
@@otaking3582 it doesn't matter if they don't care about unions, if that's the rule they agreed to in the contract it'd open them up to a lawsuit to break it.
I would like to see Kreature from the Krusty Krab. It's such a strange and surreal game that I would love to see more people check out and see a discussion of.
Imma be honest, that game is definitely one of my top 10 games, it's just something about how you can go from nightmare fueled spongebob racing to plankton destroying a city and a completely different art style that I loved, its REALLY good at keeping someone with ADD (like me) paying attention.
I want to see a video on that simply because I really wanted to play that as a kid, but never got to. Not that I have no way of playing it, just more interested in that over anything else.
They were consulting members of the community at each step, and it was speedrunners like Shift that directly consulted with the Devs and told them that they shouldn't change anything as it wouldn't be faithful to the original. And then those very same members of the community came around and stabbed them in the back by hating the decisions they themselves caused.
It’s actually amazing how much of this is a complete lie as SHiFT said he didn’t want the game to be exactly the same and gave Purple Lamp advice on how to fix some of the speedrunning tech and glitches from the original. He just wanted cruise boosting since it’s such an iconic part of the original now.
@@ado2836 Still, he owes his entire career to a game being broken, and then criticises the remake of the game for netting him world records and being broken
@@Lanosrep actually, SHiFT said that the game felt different compared to when they asked him to try it out and he thinks that it's probably Nickelodeon's fault. If you're actually talking about what he says in his rehydrated streams, he also says shit about the original game too, but he doesn't hate it, it's just funny to him
With how certain aspects of this game feel off, it toys with muscle memory, and that's just lemons, otherwise, known as evil. But a Spongebob race? That sounds like it could be the best thing since canned bread.
I did notice Sandy’s lasso swing seems a little delayed. Probably the most annoying thing would be how long the loading screen takes when you die or fall to your death. It’s only about 6 seconds maybe, but it feels longer than that. These are however, minor nitpicks.
true story: my first time playing this was in my dark basement on my 65 inch TV and when i got outside of Spongebob’s house i was blinded by how bright and saturated everything was
So that means we're suppose to love the fact that they didn't really fix a lot of the design choices the original had? And we should hate the idea of making it better?
I don't recall hearing him saying it was a bad game. If anything he mentioned on a few occasions that it's good! And pointing out flaws is not a bad or hateful thing to do. I'm speaking as someone who's never played a sponge bob game or gives a crap about said games. But even I can see it's a good game even if it's by the numbers for a platformer.
Totally agree with every statement in your video. I really wanted to like this game more than I do, but with the janky controls and nothing new being added to the game, it's just okay at best.
And yet Nickelodeon fanboys keep acting like this game (and Sonic Lost World with its one-dimensional characters that soured the mood of the entire story, but I digress. And if you actually like this game, cool.) gets too much hate from people like AntDude and… dare I say it… IGN (which yes, they are incompetent reviewers that are infamous for giving biased criticisms towards better games, but was it really a crime to have a less-than-positive opinion on Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated to warrant *this much* more dislikes than likes before RUclips took down the dislike button?!?!?!?!) even though Battle for Bikini Bottom was good enough to not need a remake that just feels like the same game all over again.
Good to see you have some fun at the end. I don't know why, but I see you as someone who tries to be objective, which I like about your content, and seeing you being less professional is nice.
The little touches like the zoom on Mrs. Puff, Squidward yelling "HEY!" when you draw a moustache on his painting, those tiny details that gave the original so much life are just gone, but that's not even what I hate most. The physics are just off. Spongebob runs slower, spinning in the air barely stalls you any more, Sandy's rope swing has been completely ruined... The original had some of the best physics I've ever seen in a collectathon. Movement was tight, I never once died missing a platform unless it was my own fault. I have more hours in the original than in any other game, and I replay it frequently so I know the controls better than most. In Rehydrated, the platforms are sometimes spaced too far apart to make the jump without pinpoint accuracy. Reaching the trampoline tarp in the sand castle took me a few tries, and the sock gained from platforming across towels in goo lagoon took me so, so many attempts because there wasn't enough time to allow the platforms to move into place before I ran out and had to start over. The tilting platforms in Jellyfish Fields were nearly impossible to get across, and I had to mash the button to jump from the platform because Spongebob would stick to the platform while it reset to the neutral position. In the original you simply had to jump up to the top without standing for too long, but in Rehydrated I died multiple times because Spongebob would perform the jumping animation, but propel himself downward with the platform. The physics in the remake are abhorrent, and ruin the incredible fluidity of the original, making the entire experience a chore.
I remember playing the game original game on my ps2 but the problem is that i never got through it, because- 1: I didn't have a memory card and the game always restarted when i turned off the game and played it again. 2: I couldn't beat the first boss. Yeah, but the game was still fun ngl! Oh and my ps2 is a bit broken and some games don't work on it anymore... **sad ps2 player noises**
Dude your just not used to the new games controls they’re not bad. I 100% the new game twice and the second time playing through it was still tight. don't get me wrong its not the same but the new game is just as good as the old in a different way its just the nostalgia googles kicking in saying it sucks. I still prefer the old physics but new one has some new features to make it interesting to play either or.
Playing Battle for Bikini Bottom is what prompted me to binge almost all of SpongeBob earlier this year. It was a good time, even for a lot of the later seasons.
Thanks for the review, I’m playing the rehydrated myself and I do like the more lip sync movements and better animations, but I think some of the remodels are a bit weird, like I prefer the Patrick and sandy robot models from the first version than this one. I dunno they just don’t look right. The bosses are still fun for the most part, and it’s nice to see they fixed the sliding races by you just starting back from the beginning when you die rather than having to just finish the sliding halfway and take up the remainder of your time. But I am upset that they did not fully include the squidward robot fight, I thought that would have been cool and maybe it could have been where we played as squidward himself. I just wish they could have expanded more rather than just focusing on the graphics. They had the chance to do more with this game, but wanted to keep to the roots which I get, but even Spyro could do different things as well.
Remaster: Remastering is giving a game a graphical overhaul while keeping the original experience intact with minor gameplay adjustments and improvements and maybe even a new mode examples include SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated and Shadow of the Colossus Remake: Remaking a game is making a game from the ground up adding in new modern features and gameplay changes while keeping what made the original good to begin with examples include Black Mesa (a Half-Life 1 remake) and the Resident Evil remakes People often get this mixed up and understandably so as even game devs get them mixed up as well hopefully this helps anyone really.
Ummm correct me if I'm mistaken but Spyro reignited is exactly the same as the original might as well be under same category as spongebob only big difference being that Spyro re recorded the lines and changed some while spongebob kept the old voice acting
The lip sync might be because THQ Nordic added multiple language options for a more global audience and made 10 new dubs, so it was not matched to make it easier for more languages
So Sandy’s swing mechanic is indeed different! I really thought I was going crazy, especially the first moments with Sandy in Rehydrated. I messed up those jumps a lot and really doubted if the lasso jump was changed or not
I like how the graphics and expressions represent the style for seasons 9 - 12 For those who didn't watch the shows later seasons 1 - 4 are relaxed 5 - 8 are realistic 9 - 12 are cartoony
Rehydrated: we are adding unused stuff like muscle bob, robo squidward, and Patrick’s dream Me: YAYYYY rehydrated: only in a repetitive boring multiplayer Me:FUUUUUU
Worst part is, if you go into the files the musclebob fight and Patrick's dream are in there, granted textureless and unfinished but they did start working on it then just didn't finish it.
@@PlushySquare Nick prob forced them to add the cut content into multiplayer for whatever reason, the textureless left over files is just proof that the cut content was planned for single player early on.
If it were a 60 dollar release, I could understand being more critical BUT it is a $30 remaster of a cult classic selling itself to the same audience. It accomplishes that, I can understand them not changing anything
The voice actor for Mr Krabs said he would never do voice acting for a video game ever again after Detroit: Become Human. So that's why Mr Krabs didn't have his original voice.
I'm going to assume that they didn't treat their actors very well during development or something, that sucks. As if I needed another reason to dislike David Cage and his games...
I'm just glad that this game doesn't have the putrid mouth deformations of the newer episodes, I caught a glimpse of an episode while visiting relatives and I was instantly uncomfortable.
I have the Switch version and somehow managed to get myself out of bounds without really trying. Yeah, it's still a good game, but definitely rough around the edges. Framerate didn't bother me too much, though.
I'm glad that you're not being so biased about this game Ant, because you might be in the minority that's mixed about it. Most people either hate or love this game, it doesn't deserve a 2 but for players to be acclaiming it just to spite reviewers is just sad in my opinion.
@@RaphielShiraha64 Firstly, No. It was a review made for Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire, not a Sonic Game. And Secondly, It was valid criticism in context. In IGN's review specfically, Too much water was referring to the number of water type pokemon. Since every other trainer is carrying a water type Poke, your team will be skewed a bit more to accounting for that rather being more mixed like In other games. You're more encouraged than ever to have electric and grass types now and discouraged from having rock, ground types. While their criticism was tame, I'd argue the issue is far greater. Hoeen may be half land and half water routes but the water routes do not contain half the content. The land routes have visually different terrain, different Pokemon, different layouts, different music etc. The water routes are bland, have very little to see or do on them (most of the interesting stuff they have requires Dive which is basically another Surf HM), and recycle the same set of Pokemon. I'm tired of fighting Pelipers and Tentacools and hearing the same surfing theme. There's a reason that past and later Pokemon games only had like small pockets of water and 1 water route. It's not fun enough to sustain so much time
@@FraserSouris nah there is a actual review with that joke but with a sonic game pretty sure, also the guy was just meming because this game is full of water no need to take it that much seriously bruh

Uncle Al offered to redo Mr. Krabs voice. If you've ever seen his videos you would know that his impressions are spot on. I really wish Purple Lamp Studios took them up on his offer.
2 things 1. the reason why clancey brown does not voice mr krabs is because of legal reasons 2 the game is not crash or spyro its cheaper because of the rushed development plus i wish they remade revenge of the flying ducthman and the movie game those games needed it
To be fair even spyro was rushed what is why Year of the dragon has less polish than the other 2 and why you had to download like half the game from physical discs because they didn't even have time to compress it that it would fit onto a Blue Ray disc.
Tom The Fish Compare the sales numbers of BFBB to ANY of the Crash Bandicoot games. Spongebob may be a big franchise, but its games aren’t nearly as big.
@Tom The Fish Yes they did, they actually fixed stuff and compressed the game later in an update from over 67 GB to 36 GB and made newer discs include the entire game when it can finally fit onto a Blue-ray disc while Crash 2 and 3 are lot more complicated than people give them credit to thanks to the new gameplay mechanics and such. You really seem to have no clue what you are talking about considering you even bring Game Freak for some reason when nobody is even talking about RPG's -_-'
@Technonova the game is only £25 while crash and spryo are £35 (yes i live in the uk) while BFBBR is longer and has the ok multiplayer the crash and spyro have 3 games
@Mr. TAD Nick rushed them so it would release when the movie did (same as the movie game) in order to maximize sales. And that ended up being a flop because the movie ended up delayed anyways
It seems to me that the whole point was to just make a faithful recreation. No real gameplay changes, just smoother, better graphics, sounds, etc. Also...yeah those areas you mentioned to be frustrating....hundred percent true. I've actually NEVER beaten the mermalair ball challenge. Until rehydrated that is! So I'm pretty happy about that. And I'll have to agree that for the most part it's a great game. But certain redone mechanics, like Sandy's lasso are just...bad. I died way too many times when I shouldn't have. Still...the best money I've spent during quarantine. ;D
Most game devs don't want there to be glitches XD thus Rehydrated did it's job by not being broken in same ways of the OG game Just find it funny you are complaining that a game got remade, and the things that were broken got fixed, and you're sad about that...

Yeah, the original level does the same float effect as well to play up on the absurdity of the dream world.
Exactly, he just dreamed it up, it's just sorta floaty because it's a DREAM.

Let me name a few probable ones:
1. Boss replayability
2. Patch for bugs and glitches
3. Buff Robo Plankton
4. Make Kelp Forest more linear and easier to beat
5. Invisible Spatulas
5A. It will be like in Mario Oddysey
5B. For every invisible Spatula you get, in exchange, you get 100 shiny objects
6. When changing a character, make the camera easier to control
7. Fix camera glitches

Clancy Brown actually denied to work on this game since he wasn't in the last one, Purple Lamp reached out to him
@@yunatic4992 pretty sure that is the VA union thing. If Clancy Brown had to redo lines, EVERYBODY would have to redo lines
Finalblue1234 gonna be hard to get lines from dead men
So why was only Clancy Brown locked out for union reasons? It seems odd that he'd be allowed to sign on for Spongebob without the union approving the likelihood of spin-offs.
@@JCBro-yg8vd because he never signed on the original version, and it would be seen as unfair to the union to kick the original recordings without any artistic reason on behalf of the VA. It's a clusterfuck as already has been said.
13:14 I laughed so much harder than i should
From what I understand, they couldn't simply redo the voice acting for just one character.
All in all this game looks like so much potential and I know that eventually this game will truly light a candle to the original, but until then, I believe this specific quote from the game truly shows where experiencing my childhood once more lies:

I just wished we could have played as the other characters in the main game :( Using Squidwards clarinet or even a reef blower mechanic would have been cool
Seeing your review of Rehydrated makes me appreciate Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey more.
Say what you want about the game that killed Alphadream. But you can't deny that remake did more than just upped the graphics. It did some changes to make the game more bearable, added epic final boss songs, and even added a new game mode that, despite being repetitive, has very good story telling.
Dude, Bowser's Inside Story already had an epic final boss theme
@@HypeVoiceActing I think they meant the Dark Star and Dark Fawful themes, since they both were the only bosses to get new unique songs in the remake

Pretty sure there's no such rule, and even if there was, Viacom doesn't exactly care about unions.
Yeah I don't buy it, that's simply ridiculous.
Also, I'm pretty sure voice actors have their own union and are not part of the Screen Actors Guild, unless they also do live-action acting as well, obviously...
@@dildonius ...no, VAs are absolutely part of SAG-AFTRA.
@@otaking3582 it doesn't matter if they don't care about unions, if that's the rule they agreed to in the contract it'd open them up to a lawsuit to break it.

Imma be honest, that game is definitely one of my top 10 games, it's just something about how you can go from nightmare fueled spongebob racing to plankton destroying a city and a completely different art style that I loved, its REALLY good at keeping someone with ADD (like me) paying attention.

Remake
With how certain aspects of this game feel off, it toys with muscle memory, and that's just lemons, otherwise, known as evil.
But a Spongebob race? That sounds like it could be the best thing since canned bread.
I did notice Sandy’s lasso swing seems a little delayed. Probably the most annoying thing would be how long the loading screen takes when you die or fall to your death. It’s only about 6 seconds maybe, but it feels longer than that. These are however, minor nitpicks.
true story: my first time playing this was in my dark basement on my 65 inch TV and when i got outside of Spongebob’s house i was blinded by how bright and saturated everything was
honestly, that's probably more your problem because you were playing games in the dark.
3:08 "More like WRATH OF THE LOADING SCREENS, am I right guys?"
Something about the art style is super jarring to me in the remake. And no it’s not nostalgia, I’ve never even played the original.
3:06 I LAUGHED SO HARD🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
What about Atlantis Squarepantis for the DS? I have great memories for that one, and I don't hear anyone talk about it.
I don't understand the reasoning that because it's not a reimagining, it's bad. It's not supposed to be a reimagining. It never was.
I don't understand the reasoning of wanting an old game to be remastered so bad and when it gets people complain about it
So that means we're suppose to love the fact that they didn't really fix a lot of the design choices the original had? And we should hate the idea of making it better?
I don't recall hearing him saying it was a bad game. If anything he mentioned on a few occasions that it's good! And pointing out flaws is not a bad or hateful thing to do.
I'm speaking as someone who's never played a sponge bob game or gives a crap about said games. But even I can see it's a good game even if it's by the numbers for a platformer.
@@HypeVoiceActing Talk about putting words in someone's mouth, geez.
Being cheaper doesn't mean it's automatically immune to critique. If the game has genuine problems, there's nothing wrong with bringing them to light.
I remember playing the game original game on my ps2 but the problem is that i never got through it, because-
1: I didn't have a memory card and the game always restarted when i turned off the game and played it again.
I played this game as a kid and loved it sooo much because I was an enormous fan of spongebob, (especially the early ones)
the reason mr.krabs voice wasn't changed was because Nick didn't want it to change. purple lamp asked them
Thanks for the review, I’m playing the rehydrated myself and I do like the more lip sync movements and better animations, but I think some of the remodels are a bit weird, like I prefer the Patrick and sandy robot models from the first version than this one.
Yeah same, they had so much opportunities while making the game but looks like they missed it.
"More like Dehydrated am i right" - AntDude 2020
Remaster: Remastering is giving a game a graphical overhaul while keeping the original experience intact with minor gameplay adjustments and improvements and maybe even a new mode examples include SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated and Shadow of the Colossus
Remake: Remaking a game is making a game from the ground up adding in new modern features and gameplay changes while keeping what made the original good to begin with examples include Black Mesa (a Half-Life 1 remake) and the Resident Evil remakes
People often get this mixed up and understandably so as even game devs get them mixed up as well hopefully this helps anyone really.
Ummm correct me if I'm mistaken but Spyro reignited is exactly the same as the original might as well be under same category as spongebob only big difference being that Spyro re recorded the lines and changed some while spongebob kept the old voice acting

Bruh. That meme is inaccurate and lazy
@@FraserSouris that is a actual review ign made related to one of the sonic games
2 things
1. the reason why clancey brown does not voice mr krabs is because of legal reasons
2 the game is not crash or spyro its cheaper because of the rushed development
plus i wish they remade revenge of the flying ducthman and the movie game those games needed it
To be fair even spyro was rushed what is why Year of the dragon has less polish than the other 2 and why you had to download like half the game from physical discs because they didn't even have time to compress it that it would fit onto a Blue Ray disc.
Well, the Crash and Spyro remakes had *3* games remade. This is just 1 game remade. That gives me the idea that BFBB Rehydrated is more expensive.

He didn't mention the fact that they patched most of the speed running techniques that got the game made in the first place for no reason
Yet another reason why Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D are much better remakes.
No they didn't. It's a remake, not a remaster. If they wanted those glitches in, they would have to add them in manually. They simply didn't do that.
Don't worry, the remake trumps it by having one that makes you beat the game before you can even get your first golden spatula
@@otaking3582 Majora's Mask 3D is not that good of a remake mainly because of how they nerfed the Deku and Zora masks
