Kind of a fun story related to Donkey Kong 94. I used to LOVE Mario vs. Donkey Kong on the GBA and kind of fell off the wagon for years. Then while I was in my Donkey Kong frenzy, looking for every way possible to play the original Donkey Kong on NES and Arcade, Donkey Kong 94 caught my eye on the eShop. I only looked at a single picture and it looked like a straight port of the original game, and I was like, "YES!" I had such a fun time with that first loop of the game. I was like, "Wow, this is a lot of fun, like a remaster of the original game!" And then it pulled that massive twist and turned into the ORIGINAL Mario vs. Donkey Kong. I never knew MvDK had a history before the GBA one. And then that pushed me to play a ton of MvDK and fall in love with that series once again. I'm really happy I never knew about that twist in the Game Boy game. It's one of my favorite Donkey Kong memories, seriously.
And then a few months ago Nintendo reveals Mario VS DK remake and the game is currently out.... And honestly, it's really good. So far the best game I've played this year.
Mario vs Donkey Kong : a series that started off as an extended version of the original DK with puzzle & platform elements then simply Became nothing more than a Lemmings clone .
I remember the days, when playing the OG Mario vs Donkey Kong on my dad’s GBA Micro… what a good time it was, I was actually blown away by the fun I had with it!

I'm surprised you did the whole series in one video and didn't talk about how this series became punishment for a studio who cost Nintendo millions and a large amount of workers after tasked with completing Project Hammer for the Wii.
Man, I used to LOVE these games, especially Mini-Land Mayhem. I never played Donkey Kong 94 or the first MvDK until recently, but the Mini focused games were super appealing to me as a kid and I played them up to Minis on the Move. Looking back, it'd definitely be cooler if they continued the DK94 style as it's own series but I still have fond memories of those first few Mini games

I had such a fun time with that first loop of the game.
It’s crazy to think Pauline returned after so long when the Mario vs Donkey Kong series began. Who knew she’d become a mayor?
I came here after listening to the Arlocast. Awesome channel!
Btw, I loved March of The Minis 🤣
What a lore drop at the end though
I know right?! A total game-changer.
can someone explain to me what the message was in the Surprise screen at the end
Can’t wait for the next one
I got some good news for you...
YEEAAAAH ITS ANTDUDE!!
Lol, Antdude is basically the bootleg version of Scott the woz.

I remember the days, when playing the OG Mario vs Donkey Kong on my dad’s GBA Micro… what a good time it was, I was actually blown away by the fun I had with it!
20:03 - why is an actually satisfying completion cutscene so rare nowadays?
The 100 percent one for Crash 4 was cool, as was the one for Oddworld Soulstorm, but I didn't see much else.
Too bad 100 percenting Crash 4 is a pain in the ass though.
@@rcmero To me it was fun, except for 2 specific levels.
106 percenting it, on the other hand...
Because they figure no one will bother to reach completion, so why waste resources on something people will never see?
I kind of miss stuff like F-Zero GX, were there are things to see for those who go the extra mile.
@@VonFirflirch They more like assume. Falsely so. There's a reason those stuff exist in the first place.
Saying people will "never see" it is such a simplistic assumption.
@@Ori_KohavWho. WHO thouhg the requirments for 106% completion was _good._
I think I played the DSIWare game way back when and even then I felt ripped off seeing as how similar it was to the previous game.
Also, you really knocked it out of the park with this one, man. Definitely my new favorite video from you 🙏
I'm surprised you did the whole series in one video and didn't talk about how this series became punishment for a studio who cost Nintendo millions and a large amount of workers after tasked with completing Project Hammer for the Wii.
I need to hear this story

NGL I wouldn't be surprised if this was all just made up.
Well now Mario vs. Donkey Kong has a remake!
Wait, so you're telling me the Switch is not the only Nintendo console with a calculator?

Most games are painfully average
Finally, we got to see the minis march again

Here going be a remake of Mario vs donkey Kong
Man, I used to LOVE these games, especially Mini-Land Mayhem. I never played Donkey Kong 94 or the first MvDK until recently, but the Mini focused games were super appealing to me as a kid and I played them up to Minis on the Move. Looking back, it'd definitely be cooler if they continued the DK94 style as it's own series but I still have fond memories of those first few Mini games
Nintendo's motto has always been: "Buy them all! Buy them all! Buy them all!" They thrive on the FOMO model.
And artificial scarcity, don't forget that
@@nobodyinparticular9640 Ah, yes, that is very true. Hike up the demand so high that people will pay anything (no matter the value) as well as have a huge push to boost their sales numbers for that particular quarter.
Say what you will, it worked.
@@theotherky I mean, that is true, but some of the business practices they employ just leave a bad taste in your mouth. Nintendo fans can be a bit too loyal to a fault. It is like being in an abusive relationship. You hate their business decisions but they make some really good games and you still stick with them. 😣
@@mattb6522 Oh, I know. I feel the same way towards Capcom. I was more talking about the "vote with your wallet" crowd that still buys the game anyway, and then gets mad about the choice that they willingly made. There's a point where the consumer has to take some of the blame for companies continuing to get away with what they do.
miniland mayhem is so nostalgic for me, though as a kid the sounds donkey kong and pauline made during the final boss scared me, like legit creeped me out, i wish it was more popular
2 year wish completed, i guess
10:15 Yo I loved Minis March Again. I honestly think it is SIGNIFICANTLY better than March of the Minis.
Not gonna lie I didn’t even know there were multiple of these games. I had mini land mayhem, had fun with it, then completely forgot about its existence
I'm going to be honest, I played Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars a LOT when I was little. I still hold so such nostalgia when playing it and man, it was so much fun. I even went as far as go gather as much stars to unlock everything (iirc I had everything but Gold Mario). But still, I wish to have that experience again
Well, now we're getting an actual remake of Mario vs Donkey Kong. Let's see how it turns out.
Thank you for making this video!
Mario vs Donkey Kong on GBA was one of my first ganes, and I think it still holds up!
I can't believe they remade the GBA game. I love that game. Maybe that after that remake, they'll make new Mario vs. DK games with that gameplay.
Is a remake?! I thinked was a reboot!
@@yuriswasd7238 Yeah it's a remake of the very first game on GBA that had you control the real Mario. It's a really great game. I have the original and a little while ago, even before the remake was announced, I started a new game in order to complete it at 100% for the first time, and I've been making great progress towards that goal lately.

@Tyler 7 that's funny because Antdude's channel was made before Scott's.
"Jokes on you, they're both march of the minis"
*top 10 anime betrayals*
Welp, looks like Nintendo heard your pleas by deciding to make a remake of the GBA Mario Vs. DK with actual platforming, therefore finally returning to the series’s roots.
“Did you play this, your probably didn’t play this” jokes on you this is the only Mario vs donkey Kong game I have actually played, the nostalgia I have for that game is really strong
While the minis could be seen as a foreshadowing of Amiibo, we never got the minis as actual Amiibo, or just a regular toy.
Nintendo missed out on a lot of money there, just like how they sit on the missed potential of the earlier games of this side series.
