I love how gamers keep calling for dark, adult oriented stories full of violence. And once someone delivers in a way that actually has a profound impact, they immediatly turn around and praise the Spongebob game that just came out for being colorful.
Keep in mind that Im not saying you can't criticise TLOU2, but most people just complain that the game broke their power fantasy a bit.

I think the character arcs of Spongebob and Plankton were really connected as acts of revenge propelled the plot forwards. This cyclic motion was finally broken by Spongebob, as he realized that the only way out was to let go.

Normally I'm not into cartoony kid show games like this nowadays. But this game seems like it be a breath of fresh air. It's not shoving politics in your face or trying to be a hateful, toxic social justice narrative. It's just Spongebob. A game that's well aware of its subject material and doesn't try to be anything else.

I loved TLOU2, now I am replaying it on survivor+
My friends that played also loved it, my GF that watched me play got so emotional we had to take pauses (she also watched me play TLOU)
but I obviously am a minority
and I understand SOME of the hate the game gets (pacing is not great on second playthrough, some sjw stuff on the first hour)
but I don't get it
I was spoiled on the major death and change of protagonist mid game
still I gave it a fair shot. I love survival and stealth-action games like dishonored, hitman, MGSV so the gameplay hits a sweet spot for me. But here's what I want to talk about.
I think that the game can only be enjoyed if you dont hate Abby.
If you were spoiled and got into the game dead set on hating abby, you're closing yourself to her story, that mirrors that of Joel on tlou. IDK why people just forget that he too was a thug once, and abby is just the way that his actions caught up to him. But yeah if you wanna talk about it, I'd love to know why the game's shit, because if it truly is shit then I am a fucking retard for enjoying it.

I love this remaster. The levels are vast and fun to explore, the voices are hilarious, and the graphics are pleasing. This reminds my why I love video games to begin with: FUN.

There is something so uncanny about gman reviewing a kid friendly game.

Wholesome is the right word. I had been waiting for this remake, to relive a classic from my childhood and it's a blast!

I mean, there are games that talk about real things that happen in real life, but are more interesting and well writen, and having a certain philosophy about life in general, and having a great plot to think about it for days, and enjoying his story at the same time.
But are so different right now comparing it in the past.
This is why I prefer to play games that interest me, rather than listen to what a journalist says.
Which I why I take the Raycevick video "The Worst Game I Enjoy" to heart. Where a game is slept on by critics, but still relatively charming to a certain person.

Like BFBB was an arcade game on pc and a combat platformer on console while Lights Camera Pants was a point & click adventure game on pc and a party arcade game on console.

From the footage it sounds like they managed to get a bunch of the original TV show's voice actors to reprise their roles, which is always a nice touch.
Imo, most gaming journalists in this day and age have either, never had more than a passing casual interest in them before, or just don't truly enjoy them anyway.
Most seem to be wannabe political/cultural journalists, who just couldn't make it in that field, or just couldn't find a job after they spent their thousands in some high tier journalism course for resume clout. As a final point, TLOU2 is the perfect game for those kind of journalists, since it lets them pretend to be a political/cultural journalist, without having to actually put any effort into covering it. It's like a game within a game.

@@Tsuta It cannot be denied that at least some elements of the game are competent. That said, the game does has flaws that have not gone unnoticed by a considerable portion of its audience. Not to mention the suspcious collective review scores that I have *never* seen for a game with such a collective consensus.
Aside from the questionable plot, the actual gameplay itself seems fairly bog standard fare when compared to other games of the same ilk.

I never thought I'd see a review for a SpongeBob game in this channel, but I'm glad I did
Way too many game journalists unfairly criticize this game for extremely mundane reasons, like it being too childish and playing like an older game, despite literally being based on a children's cartoon and being a remake of an older game. I really like what you said about journalists usually ranking a game with high marks because of cinematics and easy modes, and I think that's a really good way to sum up most games journalists. They can't appreciate when a game can be fun and lighthearted, and they posses tiny ass brains that can't even comprehend basic gameplay challenges like the bubble bowling shown in this video.
There's a lot to appreciate about Battle For Bikini Bottom, and I think too many people can't appreciate it because of the notion that a game must be mature and have violence with cinematic graphics to be considered good.

Wow, I did not expect GmanLives to review this game which happened to be my most anticipated game of 2020. As well as a remake of a classic childhood game of mine.

I 100% completed it in a day. The game is just as good as when I was a kid.
I actually got Rodney once, but he wanted to get rid of Alice to make room for the obviously important person that is himself, so I sent him to the ranch

Mate, this is spot on. We need to take a good hard look at critics and how they are "playing" games. Times need to change. This game is wholesome, that's it. Good fun for the whole family to forget there's a pandemic going on.
