Cruise boosting is probably my favorite speedrun trick in any game. It's not available immediately so it doesn't completely overshadow everything else in the run, but its also so useful and versatile that you can pretty much do anything with it. The fact its always consistent as long when you get good at the imputs just make it an amazing trick.

I remember playing this game nonstop as a kid when it released i 100% completed the game and found out about the speedrunning community years later i was stunned by the level of skill and precision these speedrunners showed its just unreal and the fact the game got remade due to the huge popularity of the speedrunning community is just amazing
Shift gets some hate sometimes because he's really critical of himself at the end of every single run, even PBs and WRs; but he seems like a really genuine guy and I love watching his runs because BFBB is one of my favorite childhood games.
It's not just that he is critical of himself, he lets himself get into a huge negative spiral where most people would either take a temporary break or do something else altogether. He berates himself and screams where it becomes unwatchable. I could excuse that, but when he lashes out at fans that are just giving voices of concern, that's where it gets ridiculous, and I think people have a valid reason to dislike his streams due to that. He has apologized relatively recently for his behavior, and I genuinely do hope he improves, not just to have better streams and more people to like him, but for his mental health

ive been watching shift for like 4 years and it's safe to say he is probably the most dedicated runner of all time, watching him and the rest of the bfbb community's hard work pay off over the years has been so awesome, and bfbb is truly a speedgame unlike any other.
bruh the story completely missed the cool part of the lore where they legit had to hardware hack the consoles because the game couldnt be run any faster, and it was the only way to consistently perform some super advanced glitches that brought the time saves in droves. hopefully the next parts of shifts video covers it cuz its absolutely fucking wacky
As someone who first speedran this game in 2014 and then returned in 2016, this game and community have evolved to form a ridiculous and entertaining history which I am proud to be apart of. This game takes genuine dedication, but with time and patience you can achieve times and tricks which you never thought possible. Absolute 10/10 speedgame, never giving it up.

Fun fact as someone who helped with the history videos, 30:17 the Price is Right section took me 2 weeks straight to pull off 😅 Thought I was gonna save time using a different method but ended up probably spending more time on it lol.
This is a game that we all played in our childhood and kinda dismissed but it really grew like fine wine with strong movement mechanics and fundementals for a 3d platformer and cartoony graphics (they age better than realistic graphics) but it really became a cult favorite and gained the recognition it deserved through time.

SHiFT and all the other BFBB speed-runners deserve this recognition. I stumbled upon the history of these runs years ago and I thought it was one of the most underrated speed-runs at the time. My man SHiFT is still grinding every day to beat his own record and it truly admirable.

Literally i can remember a all the way back from my entire childhood to now being 20 years old and speedrunning the game and watching shifts latest speedruns. The game is a literal masterpiece and has a super deep spot it my heart, I'm so glad it has created the legacy it now has.
I'm pretty sure Spongebob would have pretty substantial crossover with almost every online community. It was one of the most popular children's shows ever and a lot of young people are nostalgic for it. Plus it's become a staple in internet culture through memes. That was such a dumb reason to reject BFBB from GDQ.
The amount of consistency and focus as well as ability to not make ANY mistakes through a speedrun is extremely impressive in my book. You know when your in competition down to seconds that pressure and the nerves gotta be kicking in full swing when you start getting towards the end ... Talk about some damn rage a human could feel when making the smallest seemingly inconsequential mistakes that could completely shit on your time, even flossing thru the game flawlessly up to the smallest mistake in those key moments. The craziest ones ive ever seen are n64 Goldeneye, lobbing grenades across the map on runway, and ofc Super Mario 64, literally running a machine thru the code to get 1000 years worth of runs (not exaggerating) down to hours to find the ultimate route beyond human capability of discovering

I remember loving bfbb as a kid and when I was probably 19-20 y.o I wanted to get into speed running. Racked my brain for a fun game and thought, holy shit bfbb would be awesome, paired with the beloved rehydrated coming out. Checked out the times, and that was the end of my speed running career.

I am proud to have been a contributor to BfBB's rise to fame, and it makes me happy that people are still learning about the speedrun and its history! It's worth learning about. Even all these years later, BfBB remains to be one of the most technically impressive speedruns I know of. My involvement was relatively short-lived due to burnout, but I cherish the memories made during that time and I am so glad that I was there for the game's early days.

I have only the fondest memories of this game from my childhood and after playing the remaster, I can say that it has aged very well and still is just as fun to play. Very interesting to see a whole speed-running community dedicated to it

BFBB is THE definitive SpongeBob game. Favorite childhood game - basically the only open world SpongeBob game. There was so much detail put into this game it's astounding - and it's genuinely funny.

I started running recently and I’m currently 6th place, and there are no clear explanations of how to use all the tech, so I want to make in depth breakdowns for newcomers.

I have only the fondest memories of this game from my childhood and after playing the remaster, I can say that it has aged very well and still is just as fun to play. Very interesting to see a whole speed-running community dedicated to it

No joke, I just got that game to a Platinum Trophy. I saw it as one of the free games for PS5 this month and I had an absolute blast playing this game!

BFBB is THE definitive SpongeBob game. Favorite childhood game - basically the only open world SpongeBob game. There was so much detail put into this game it's astounding - and it's genuinely funny.

What he said about Siglemic is so true. I remember watching Sig run Super Mario to like 10k people or something when that number was unbelievable. No chat moderation, no talking, just a man slowly being driven insane by people spamming RESET. Twitch should have him on payroll for the rest of his life for what he endured.

SpongeBob: BFBB has always been one of my favorite games. I played it constantly when I was young back on the PS2. Even to this day I have nostalgia and love for both BFBB and The Movie games. Still have my og copies as well.
