Make the most of his slowing effect as he does very little damage. A Fireball will fully defeat an equally levelled Ice Wizard at a slight Elixir deficit. This may be valuable if another unit, like a Crown Tower, can also be hit. A good position for an Ice Wizard is in the middle of the defender's side of the Arena as it maximizes the distance melee troops must travel. Any melee ranged troops that reach the Ice Wizard will be targeted by the defender's other Crown Tower. For example, an Ice Wizard in this position can counter a full squad of Barbarians and survive with a sliver of health. The Ice Wizard will only deal a few hundred damage to a Princess Tower alone, which can be prevented easily by the opponent for a good trade. The player should consider the amount of defensive value their Ice Wizard obtained; trying to support an Ice Wizard when it has not helped gain an Elixir lead can put the player in a bad spot. Despite dealing low area damage, the Ice Wizard is capable of taking out fragile swarms. However, without the assistance of a Crown Tower, he will be overwhelmed as his splash radius is otherwise negligible. The Ice Wizard is a powerful asset to both offense and defense as he significantly lowers the damage per second of enemy troops. The slowing effect is most noticeable against units with fast attack rates, such as the Inferno Tower and the Inferno Dragon. Under the slowdown effect, they both take about 1 extra second to reach maximum damage output. The Tornado is an iconic and effective synergy with the Ice Wizard. The Ice Wizard will slow down enemies, clumping them together for the Wizard to deal high amounts of area damage. If possible, the two should be placed some distance apart to mitigate potential spell value from the opponent, as spells like Poison or Fireball can fully take out the pair for a positive Elixir trade. Ice Wizard pairs very well with Tombstone. The Ice Wizard, placed at the middle of the tower to maximize potential among the 2 Crown Towers, while the Tombstone adds insult to injury with small distractions also including the tomb itself. It's so fun to watch someone else play it because you can actually watch all the animation going on. Truly a beautiful game, very well-played by Charlie.
My god, I can't stop staring at this animation. This is beyond classic cartoons, this is Thief and the Cobbler eye candy. I think our expectations have been ruined by massive game publishers crunching their developers. We need to have a greater appreciation for the amount of time it takes for a small team to put out something this high-quality.
In retrospect, some of the character designs are...... racially insensitive. Shame because otherwise it's a work of undeniably masterful craftsmanship.
Even if its short, its damn 8 dollars for beautifully drawn and animated boss fights, compared to a lot of other dlc nowadays this is practically a steal from the amount of love and effort that was put into this
The reason it takes so long to make is because every frame is hand drawn. It takes a while but it’s a level of dedication that you don’t see much nowadays, and I for one appreciate it! Edit: also for eight bucks it’s a STEAL
The animation style of this game is just incredible. I can’t believe how beautifully animated and programmed the game is. The snowman especially was most interesting, props on beating the game so quickly, Charlie
I don't know why, but something about the saltbakers animations are MUCH smoother than the other bosses, and that's something you can notice that is yearworthy. Atleast it didn't take 6 years for one boss then like.. another 12 just for another, truly they've outdone themselves with this DLC
The shaker chef boss is absolutely mesmerizing to watch. I know everyone has already talked about how the games look amazing and the animation is phenomenal, but this boss really takes the cake
MDHR said that they treated every DLC boss like a final one in terms of animation, and it shows. You can see the amazing level of detail in the animations of the DLC.
You gotta love it when the sad game journalists complain that they couldn’t beat the tutorial, while Charlie is out here setting record times for himself for Cuphead.
This was perfect for what it is. Quality over quantity. And the $7.99 price tag is mighty fine as well. A different developer would’ve easily charged us $20 for the same thing.
Yeah, me neither I guess, the bosses were some of the best in the game. I just wish they still had run and gun levels instead of the trivial parry challenges for money.
Love the video, Charlie, but I disagree about the game being too short. For a DLC to have 7 bosses, 5 mini bosses and a whole new playable character all in hand drawn animation is way more than I could have ever imagined.
Honestly, I'm fine with how long the DLC is. It's not meant to be a whole new game or anything, it's a last course, an extra treat for people that enjoyed Cuphead. The reason it took so long is because everything was drawn by hand. Also, it's only $8
That cow boss was quite beefy tho, and this DLC lives up to the cuphead style, so I'm grateful to the devs and everyone who worked on it, it's a mastapiece.
I'm actually glad they took their sweet time with this one. The designs look absolutely stunning Hell, I didn't even think they could top the base game designs and animations in the first place
The DLC is so crazy good because it kind of flips the game on its head while still maintaining the cup head feel and aethstetic. So much care was put into making every boss fight feel unique and have cool little techs instead of just blastin' (which there is nothing wrong with) like instead of blasting the blacksmith, you knock his stuff back at him, shooting the bell queen with the cannons, etc. In conclusion, dlc pretty good
You don’t have to finish the original game to play this DLC :) just beat the Root Pack, Ribby & Croaks, and then the first Mausoleum - and the boatman that takes you to the DLC island appears in the top right corner :)
Don't worry, DLC makes things easy with Ms. Chalice. Her second super let's you get an extra hit every time the meter fills, so you have plenty of chances to make mistakes
People need to give cuphead a break for being short, frame by frame 2D animation takes so much time and all the backgrounds are painted traditionally with watercolor.
Yeah seriously. Creating each frame takes potentially hours long and that’s not even including the time it takes to plan out and create entire new characters, worlds, story, new attacks, new mechanics, (plus coding all of it), recording all the game sounds, etc. It’s actually insane to think about
people will complain about the length of the dlc without understanding how long the process of them actually making this is when they originally released the game some of the devs put their houses on the line just to finish it its all hand animated frame by frame sheet by sheet it is not a short process but its the very reason why the game looks so crisp and fluid and the visuals are worth every second it took
This game’s animation makes me feel like there is a deeper meaning to our existence. Rich in history and culture. It’s not nostalgia, but something more.
i think i know what you mean. i’ve felt it from several types of art, but lately video games especially. just seeing the complexity and depth of what we can create, all the previous knowledge and context that led to it existing, and knowing the work it takes to create it all…if meaning isn’t inherent to our lives, then this is definitely one of the ways we’re able to create meaning for ourselves.
Anime does the same thing every week I sure you know that tho Why tf are people taking my comment seriously I know they animated multiple episodes months before they get released too the public
@@yourewrongabouteverything Have to remember its a video game. Video games make it far more complex as hand drawn goes to digital then coding then everything else
Tbh, I saw the thumbnail and was like "We're fighting the MOON" at first since I hadn't seen much else from the game until now, and then when I got the game and played it, I was still like "Saltbaker turns into THE MOON" To me, his second phase looks very moon like, especially when compared to hildaberg 💀
Instead of pure difficulty, reflex, and dodging challenges, these new bosses all feel like huge Endurance tests compared to the ones from the base game. They all have easy to learn patterns, but incredibly tanky health bars and they constantly keep you calculating. Where as the normal bosses from the original game were more reflex-based and less strategy-based
I mean it is maybe two hours for extremely skilled players. For people like me we easily get double that time. Also if you want to clear everything perfect you get even more playing time. The game certainly does not stop bein fun just because you beat the boss once. Also you got to appreciate the love and quality displayed in this game. Hand drawn frames and such. I was perfectly satisfied by it.
I know I’m late, but it took me a solid 6 hours to beat, every boss here is just so good and the animation for the last boss is just incredible. And to think this is all hand drawn to digital…
if you play chess you'll love the chess bosses even more. their death dialogues are all references to their moves and such. for instance, the Rook says, "beating you was straightforward." Rooks move in a straight line, up and down. the knight says, "a W for me and an L for you!" the knight moves in an L shape. pretty cool!
@@SkisnwOnTop the bishop also says "I've got you beat from every angle". bishops are known in chess for covering angles and huge amounts of space on the board, since they move diagonally. during the fight he moves diagonally too, and has four heads: for the four directions he can move
This was an awesome dlc and I definitely can see why it took so long considering every frame of animation is hand drawn which is just crazy. I’m curious to see what these devs do next, will they go straight to doing a sequel for cup head or maybe try something new?
Take this with a massive truckload of salt but one of the developers keeps using "Cuphead 1" in all of his tweets and interviews, leads people to speculate they're working on a sequel. It might also have been because of this DLC, who knows. Just thought I'd share
the thing about the DLC length is that its about an hour in length, and cuphead is about a 2 or 3 hour game, so honestly, its a lot more new content than what people are making it out to be
I honestly think the wait was worth it. Sure, we only get a few more boss fights, but the new weapons and charms brings new and challenging gameplay to the base game. Also, the boss fights we do get are absolutely gorgeous and I believe they surpass the original game. I’m very happy with what we got
i love watching charlie play games like these because i dont think ive ever seen him genuinely rage at games like cuphead like other gaming youtubers/streamers. no breaking shit or yelling, just some frustration and 'yeah that's how it is'. very nice to watch, makes the game even more enjoyable
DLC took me like 1 hours 20 minutes to finish Another 4 hours later I finished every Boss with an A+ Certainly not long, but I never expected it to be. The quality of the animations and soundtrack is just too good to not already validate the price tag. Edit: 8 bucks is literally a Subway sandwich and a drink, that's super cheap for that level of quality
This dlc is a masterpiece. No wonder it took the devs this long to put something this insane together. I already got all the new achievements and stuff as well.
i am personally kinda mixed on if i feel underwhelmed with the dlc. like, yeah its really damn short for how long we waited for it BUT holy shit they somehow made the visuals look even more incredible than the base game which for me makes feel like it was all worth it

Even if its short, its damn 8 dollars for beautifully drawn and animated boss fights, compared to a lot of other dlc nowadays this is practically a steal from the amount of love and effort that was put into this
