1:08:35 OMG i love this ending! In the epiloge he starts to actually enjoy helping others, remakes his bakery, becomes everyone friend AND finds a way to revive chalice! The three are non ghost in the last picture!
The way that Miss chalice casually swaps mugman’s life at the beginning is exactly the chaotic friendship I like to see from these cartoons (this game’s a vibe)
Those “transitions” are literally called “inbetweens.” Key frames are drawn for key changes in movement and then an inbetweener will come and draw all the subtle movement changes from one key frame to another.
This DLC in itself was just beautiful; Im glad the team has taken their time with this DLC cause all the animation was gorgeous. And it was such a treat to watch Jack play Cuphead content again. It's always been one of my favorite playthroughs of his

Yeah, I was worried about that part for people like me who would have an absolute hard time processing all that all SIDEWAYS. Yikes. glad to hear they added that
i believe one of the reasons the DLC took so long to come out is because the studio refused to put its employees through crunch, which sets a great example for how game development SHOULD be. it’s a shame crunch is so normalized in general but good on them for breaking that trend.
I agree, but part of the fault is on us as consumers. When a game is delayed, the public loses their minds over it, so studios set hard deadlines as to not piss them off. A HUGE part of the problem is the entitlement culture among fans.
@@RabblesTheBinxWhich is why you delay it anyway and show people that the world is no longer mommy’s house and they’re not the favorite anymore. At least that’s how I deal with entitlement, I don’t cave in to them. It’s time to grow up Karen lmao 💀
@@YouKnowImOnMyPeriodYah I agree. But that also leads to companies making less money because Karen's gonna Karen. The intro music is bomb and no one can deny that. It is such a vibe. This one I actually wait and listen to it where as the old one id start or exit immediately
As a chess player, I really liked the idea of chess in Cuphead. The executioner said "it was pretty straightforward" because in chess the "executioner" or Rook moves in straight lines. Also the horse or knight moves in L formations.
All of them are chess references. The bishop says something like “I have you beat from every angle” and the queen says “I dare say that’s checkmate” I forgot what the pawns said though
Quick question, do you know when chess is gonna get an update? The game has been out for maybeee 1500 something years? The game is getting pretty repetitive and I’m hoping for a new update.
I love the design of the fake-out knockout. Like the classic “flies to honey” saying but it’s on a bug trap. It’s just screaming “I’m a trap” but you fall for it anyway because you’ve been lulled into a false sense of security via every single one of the previous fights and you are ecstatic after finally “beating” this boss. So rude on the creators parts, but still very clever
@@likeapro4242 Actually it's the snail who's saying the introduction and knockout. You can see this because when you defeat the snail he loses his microphone exactly when the real announcer clears his throat. This might imply that the snail stole the announcer's microphone before you opened the level, just for this boss fight which is kind of hilarious when you think about it. What makes it more hilarious is the announcer couldn't say anything without his microphone so he had no option but to patiently wait for you to defeat the snail, before clearing his throat like he wasn't being paid enough for dealing with this shit.
Can we just appreciate for a second the painstaking difficulty of animating handdrawn animations in this dlc? Especially the Chef's animation with its beautiful style/color and smooth transitions! This is the definition of quality and the MDHR team deserves all the props and awards for it.
@@abcdefgheat1888 Well this game is so well rounded in all aspects, whether its gameplay, graphics, sound engineering, or the soundtrack itself. Yes the animation was and still is a huge draw in for many people but I don’t believe its the only main reason everyone bought it. I personally was drawn into the game by the soundtrack before I even saw any gameplay or graphics :)
@@abcdefgheat1888 It may not be the main reason for everyone. I liked the game only because of the challenging levels of it, not the animation. Also, even if that’s true, that doesn’t mean they can’t be congratulated and praised for their amazing work. They deserve it.
the thing i love the most is that MDHR studios prioritized health and well being of their staff rather than releasing the DLC quickly, i love this, i dont mind waiting a couple years for new content if its this well done and the staff's mental health is taken care of
Something Ive noticed- each cut scene in the dlc had fluid motion. This wasn't in the original game! It would read like a book with simple picture but here we see the characters mouth move along with their bodies. Even the act of salt baker turning and slamming the knife down. I think the dlc took a lot of care being made and I'm glad they put as much thought as they did in it!
It‘s interesting how sleeping in the graveyard triggered an underworld themed fight. Yew trees were often planted in graveyards and people who slept beneath them often had hallucinations because the tree is poisonous. So people came to associate yew trees as portals to hell 😁
It’s also interesting that the angel in the fight has a very familiar face… I remember seeing a theory that the whole thing could be a nightmare Cuphead/Mugman had due to lingering trauma from the Devil, too. The thing with the yew trees you pointed out is very interesting, I never knew that!
why is no one commenting on how perfect the King's death screens are? The horse, which moves in an L in chess, says "'L' for you" and the castle says "beating you was straightforward"; the castle moves straight forward in chess, etc.
the queen says "Too little, too late, I dare say that's checkmate!" I don't know how to explain it, so here's what the wiki says "The Queen's death quote mentions checkmate which references how in chess, the Queen piece is the most powerful and often causes a checkmate when it is not removed or when a pawn is promoted to it."
@@ashleycd6487 Essentially, yes, it IS the most powerful piece, and every chess game I've seen or played, the queen is (almost) always the one to checkmate, so yes, very true.
This game oozes creativity, not only in the fact it's hand drawn and really unique, but each boss is unique and SO intricate, and many of the mechanics in some of the fights are just so creative? Like the fake-out knockout and the dog-helicopter grabbing and physically turning the screen, oh so awesome! Nothing but praise for MDHR, looking forward to seeing more great content sometime in the future!
41:53 I just noticed that for the airplane level, the far background that flies by never repeats. Not once. That’s a crazy level of detail and dedication in right there.
"Gigglejuice" is like another word for alcohol. In that bootleggers level its basically a level during prohibition and bootleggers. So when you died they basically said "you cant handle the gigglejuice" meaning "you can't handle the booze" basically calling you a lightweight and a clutz because you died.
it’s such a fun detail! and i love how well they payed attention to the moonshine distillery history, i come from a place where moonshine is really common and they got it all really accurate! :D
"I feel like redoing some series" Honestly, if that's what you want, go for it! Revisiting things down the road can be fun, fresh, and you get to go into it with a new point of view or something. Have fun. Personally not eating a cookie for a week though just in case it sucks my soul away, thanks Ms Chalice for the new fear.
replaying games is so fun especially with challenging games like cuphead or hollow knight, not only from a story / gameplay standpoint but you’ll also see how much you’ve improved
I madly appreciate Jack's recognition of how the animation of this game is fantastic. I've been studying 2d animation for a couple year now and can tell you that it's not easy. And the fact that every part of this game is draw by hand and then the program works arround them is fantastic. The work and effort that went into this is insane and it's great that other people out there can see it.
I particularly enjoyed the Aces fight because of the fluent and engaging animation of the planes, specifically the giant plane the general was commanding. It's just so fun to look at, especially with how the screen turned. It just really hooked me into the fight because now I'm in playing a different direction. Plus, the dog designs are super adorable so I love that about it, as well >:)
Believe me after that 4 year wait we should all agree that this dlc was definitely worth the wait. Cuphead is truly a game that definitely holds the standards at being one of the most creative, unique, and gorgeous games that definitely deserved all the attention it got. And seeing the dlc you can tell how much time and passion the team made to make sure that that this new mode would be impressive and well animated as possible. Seeing how far Studio MDHR has come to designs of the characters and bosses to the art style you can tell that there will never be a game as magnificent as Cuphead’s incredible style can be. Bravo to you MDHR thank you for all or your work to make one of the most incredible games of the decade.
not really worth 4 years, 1 hour of gameplay?? the first game looks practically the same with its ups and down and that didnt take them 4 years but it sure as hell has like 10-20 hours of gameplay
Such a beautiful looking game, as a someone who grew up watching a lot of the classic cartoons, I'm really glad there are people trying to keep interest in that aesthetic alive in the 21st century.
And the GOOD parts of it too. MDHR talked about how they had many discussions during the orig making of cuphead to separate the beautiful art and nostalgia from harmful stereotypes and bigotry. They’ve been so good about that
Okay, major props to the editor for the slight change in voice whenever Seán is voicing the three characters. The slight “aged” sounds as if it’s from an old cartoon just added that much more to it.
as an artist, the animations in this are BEYOND stunning! i especially adore Esther Winchester's backwards gallop/run thing, and the intro + the sideways tilt of the dog fight is impeccable
51:51 This boss is my favorite. I love how Sean's strategy was to just crank his head left and right while his editor rotates the screen for us. That was wildly amusing.
The bosses are actually good to the ingredients are alive and they know what chef saltbreaker is going to do to them and we see what he does to them in the final boss
I don't know, honestly. I mean, it's a good theory, but like... if they were just trying to keep these kids from unknowingly helping a villain, why didn't they just use their words, you know?
I think everyone knows this, but the reason the knight said, “…and an “L” for you!” is because knights move in an L formation on a chessboard. (23:00) Edit: finding more stuff like the rook (beating you was straightforward)
All the chess bosses have death quotes that relate to how they move on a chessboard (pawns can only move one space, queens get checkmates), it’s really neat
Yeah, and also the Bishop has one, too, of course. In chess, it moves diagonally. In the death quote, it says about something about "every angle" (I don't quite sure in my memory, so I'm not saying the full quote. Correct me, if it isn't "I've got you beaten from every angle")
Quick note about the relic: you have to beat seven different bosses holding it. The effect: hp reduced to one, your weapon changes to a random weapon every time you dash, parry, and let go of the fire button... It's hell to do I'm told, but totally worth it to upgrade the relic.
Well, you _could_ cheat two ticks of the amulet progress with The Root Pack and Goopy le Grande, You know what, just, just cheat it with Island 1 bosses
@@baimhakani I just did all the first isle bosses then king dice. The minibosses count as full bosses. Same for the ghost train if I'm not mistaken, but I could be wrong. On another file I did the train with only 5 bosses and still upgraded the relic
Maybe it's silly but I think it's a nice wholesome little touch that Saltbaker turns good through helping the community. The epilogue was weirdly satisfying
1:12:24 Sean says “Look at the enemies, look at how they’re transitioning” and his camera focuses onto the Top of the Mornin Coffee sign as if his channel itself is promoting him now
This gave me the same energy like when music artists release new music: it doesn’t feel real at first. I was blown away by every boss fight and how it was constructed, the fun death screen puns especially in the Kings Leap with the chess puns, and the little fun bits like the spider in the Moonshine Mob looking like the one originally from the airship boss fight and how the rook was in love with the guillotine and then at the end lost his head. It’s all so much fun and I’m only 30 minutes into the video. This might give me the motivation to finally beat King Dice since I’ve been stuck on him for so long. Edit: some of my favorite bosses include Mortimer Freeze, just about all of the Kings Leap, Esther Winchester, the Howling Aces, the Angel and Devil fight (the turning mechanic was nuts), and the Moonshine Mob was lots of fun.
Okay, kids, just to set this straight: if a ghost with a goblet for a head emerges from a portal that looks like it was ripped through time and space and offers you a cookie, don't take the cookie. Got it? Good, now enjoy watching Jack play the DLC.
36:24 You can actually see that it's a fake "Knockout!" screen & audio, I love that detail! It's great that you can see how much thought and care was put into this DLC.
Fun Fact : The Police Bugs in This Boss Battle are actually trying to help you. Their Main Target are The Mobsters, You can see their Bug Spray puffs disappear when coming into contact with Bug Capone seen here [32:13]
I am constantly impressed by anyone who can actually play Cuphead. Don’t get me wrong, I love the game, but man simply watching someone play it gives me sensory overload there’s so much on screen
Honestly, same. I can confidently admit I suck at most games and cuphead is no exception. Then again, beating a level gives me more euphoria than what I image crack could offer me.
I can’t believe that I’ve played this game enough, to realise when a knockout is a fakeout. That’s the only reason I was able to survive the last phase. Pushing that to the side, this dlc was ABSOLUTELY worth the wait. I was blown away by the quality in the animation and the difficulty. I loved every minute and I can’t wait to see what else studio MDHR does next!
Love how for Bootlegger’s Booty, it has them replacing the entrance catchphrase and the ending “KnockOut” before the boss is unveiled, because they’re quite literally making a similar “bootleg” of the proper ones-very nice touch!
I'd like to say I enjoy the history implementation in this. Specifically with the moonshiner level which references the banning of alcohol in the US in the 1920s when people made "bootleg" (hence the title of the fight) illeagle alcohol. Clearly this was soon after repealed as that vast majority of the population resented and fought against the law. I especially enjoy this reference being that the entire game has pulled inspiration from 1920s media and this level gave a sense of meta relevance that I for one rather enjoyed.
Is also like to add the historical relevance of the "dogfight" level as it references ww1 and when airborne battles taking place in planes where given the slang term "dogfight". Truly impressed by the levels of historic value that has been implemented in the DLC
I think the most impressive animation in this game is the graveyard fight, because you have to animate all the angel and devil animations, but then animate the transitions from both at every single frame. For example, the angel has a 24-frame loop, I think, and at every single one of those 10 frames is a whole new transition point, which means they have to add a 2-frame transition at every frame. That's 24 unique transitions being made for just a one-second loop.
Game: "You can't handle the giggle juice!" Jack: What does that mean? Boss Name: Bootleger Boogie: .... Me: Its saying you can't hold your alcohol. You're too drunk. Go Home
@@trickytreyperfected1482 Honestly, why would you feel the need to reply with that? I can perfectly see how many people liked the comment, also, they could just have liked that somebody explained the quote.
Little info about the cursed talisman. If you manage to kill all of the DLC bosses with it equipped you'll get something special. It is quite difficult though so if you do try it then strap yourself in, Jack.
God, this is one of those games where it doesn't matter what role you have, you'll have a good time either way. The person playing gets to enjoy the challenge, the person watching gets to enjoy the beautiful visuals and music. There's just so much charm and effort embedded in every little thing, to call the game is a work of art would be a massive understatement. Love ya, Studio MDHR.
Yesss. I loved playing the game but I also love watching because I get to enjoy how beautiful it is and you miss a lot while playing since you’re trying not to die
@@aspenisthebest Precisely! That’s exactly what a lot of people who only watch Let’s Players don’t understand. I’m hoping that, as people grow and mature, the 2020s will finally see an end to that backseat gaming mentality.
I think Esther Winchester's fight has some of my favourite animation in the entire game. I absolutely love how crazy her movement is, I love the fast moving background, the music is one of the soundtrack's best. And the visual of her being sucked into her own vaccum and coming out a sausage version of herself is absolutely hilarious
I remember a lot of people up in arms over the addition of Chalice ''omg, theyve added a girl to the game? why?'' and its funny cuz if they actually played the game properly, they'd realise she has always been in the game, thats who you save from the ghosts. I think it was a great decision to add her story, because i always wondered how she died in the first place, and now maybe we'll get to know.
Fun fact about the fake knockout in the Moonshine Mob fight: Jared Moldenhauer was looking back on the base game when making the DLC, and remembered when he tried to fake-out players during Goopy Le Grande's fight, when he transformed into his gravestone phase. He intended that to trick the players into thinking they'd beaten Goopy, but it didn't work as well as he wanted it to, so he made the fake knockout in the Moonshine Mob fight to hopefully rectify his past flop! Just goes to show how much care, time and effort went into every aspect of Cuphead, DLC and base game. Amazing work as always, Studio MDHR! WE LOVE YOU!! ❤️❤️❤️
My god Jack playing this gives me so much nostalgia. His playthrough of the original content has defiantly been a comfort series for me. So happy to see more!!😄
Delicious last course is such a clever name. This series is so creative and stylized and unique, and it doesn’t hold back! It’s not an easy kiddy game! It’s a real challenge that makes you rework the way you play your average game! Love it!
Everyone knows DLC stands for "Delicious Last Course", but did you know the title refers to the Wondertart that drives the plot? The last course of a meal is dessert, and a tart is a type of dessert. The Delicious Last Course, then, is a wonderful dessert :D
Fun fact: the onion from one of the first bosses only attacks in self defense, if you don’t shoot em he’ll just turn back and you skip that entire section
Love that chalice casually kill mugman for a bit at the start and wasn't expecting to get switched back then at the end shes just like "I wont sacrifice someone else for my life" like my gal you absolutely would... that's how all this started xD
From the beginning I was suspicious of the baker because he was being touted as the best baker, blah, blah, blah. And in the old cartoons, when the regular bad guy wasn't part of an episode, it's always someone who appears unsuspicious.

It's just fun to see all the things that are going on around in a battle, the expressions and movement and every detail. Very impressive. The Angel and Devil changing sides as the characters' shoulders switch when you turn, and 15:50 look at that thing's face lol
for the ones who didn't get the joke, the cow boss with the sausage phase says "I'm yer wurst nightmare" in the loosing screen as Sausages are called "Wurst" in German
I don't want any of us to jinx it but where did the bots go? Cause I'd sooner expect Margaret Thatcher to rise from the grave than youtube do anything about them.
I'd definitely say that Cuphead is a FLAWLESS game, it has literally no bugs (that I've experienced), amazing graphics and animation, ridiculously fun gameplay, and it has that 1900's vibe to it that is just amazing, I love the story too! This game just makes me think of really old Sunday morning cartoons like He-man or Tom and Jerry. Absolutely love this game.

“Dont look at the enemy, look at yourself cuz theres so much happening” *Not even a second later* “Did you get turned into sausages” Man, these videos never get old do they
The reason I love Jack’s videos is that he doesn’t just play a game. He’ll look at every single detail in a game and appreciate the work put into making that game. It’s why I always stick around to hear him talk about what he thought of the game and the reasons for his opinion. I always love seeing little hidden meanings behind things in movies, TV shows and, of course, games so it’s really nice to just listen to Jack talk about this. Anyway, thank you Jack for making such awesome videos and getting me through some really rough times. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Cuphead is one of the best games in this era in my opinion. I’m an animation major and you can tell just how much love and care they put into each line of every boss fight.
The animation, artstyle, and music was top notch once again. My favorite boss had to be Saltbaker; the animation was EXTREMELY fluid, the pacing was near perfect, and the music was classic Cuphead, yet climactic. It felt like a true final boss, just like the Devil. Thanks for the playthrough Jack.
I love the joy, excitement and pride in that laugh because of how he somehow called what the paper boy was about to say without even knowing it. Also thank you for the time stamp, I’ll be putting it to good use

@yaliso gioouy I didn’t even notice that! Do you think it’s because the announcer was forced by the Moonshine Mob into saying the fake knockout?
@@likeapro4242 Actually it's the snail who's saying the introduction and knockout. You can see this because when you defeat the snail he loses his microphone exactly when the real announcer clears his throat. This might imply that the snail stole the announcer's microphone before you opened the level, just for this boss fight which is kind of hilarious when you think about it. What makes it more hilarious is the announcer couldn't say anything without his microphone so he had no option but to patiently wait for you to defeat the snail, before clearing his throat like he wasn't being paid enough for dealing with this shit.
@@likeapro4242 I'm pretty sure it's a bot, actually.

Can we just appreciate for a second the painstaking difficulty of animating handdrawn animations in this dlc? Especially the Chef's animation with its beautiful style/color and smooth transitions! This is the definition of quality and the MDHR team deserves all the props and awards for it.
You're acting like the main reason people bought this game wasn't for the the animations lol
@@abcdefgheat1888 Well this game is so well rounded in all aspects, whether its gameplay, graphics, sound engineering, or the soundtrack itself. I think the dlc took a lot of care being made and I'm glad they put as much thought as they did in it!
There were 4 cutscenes Luke that in the base game, they were all short though.

why is no one commenting on how perfect the King's death screens are? The horse, which moves in an L in chess, says "'L' for you" and the castle says "beating you was straightforward"; the castle moves straight forward in chess, etc.
The pawns say one by one which could mean how they move. Their animations to suggest that they move all over the board.
the queen says "Too little, too late, I dare say that's checkmate!"
I don't know how to explain it, so here's what the wiki says "The Queen's death quote mentions checkmate which references how in chess, the Queen piece is the most powerful and often causes a checkmate when it is not removed or when a pawn is promoted to it."
"Ive got you beat from every angle!" The two bishops in chess cover every single square theoretically.

"Gigglejuice" is like another word for alcohol. In that bootleggers level its basically a level during prohibition and bootleggers. So when you died they basically said "you cant handle the gigglejuice" meaning "you can't handle the booze" basically calling you a lightweight and a clutz because you died.
So not only the animation art is from the the 30's & 40's even the lingo from that era seem like they did thier research

I love how engaging jack is, like I ain't falling asleep to this
I think the most impressive animation in this game is the graveyard fight, because you have to animate all the angel and devil animations, but then animate the transitions from both at every single frame. For example, the angel has a 24-frame loop, I think, and at every single one of those 10 frames is a whole new transition point, which means they have to add a 2-frame transition at every frame. That's 24 unique transitions being made for just a one-second loop.
Game: "You can't handle the giggle juice!"
Jack: What does that mean?

Jared Moldenhauer was looking back on the base game when making the DLC, and remembered when he tried to fake-out players during Goopy Le Grande's fight, when he transformed into his gravestone phase. I don't want any of us to jinx it but where did the bots go? Cause I'd sooner expect Margaret Thatcher to rise from the grave than youtube do anything about them.
nah, these comments are so cringe and positive and unfunny
I'd definitely say that Cuphead is a FLAWLESS game, it has literally no bugs (that I've experienced), amazing graphics and animation, ridiculously fun gameplay, and it has that 1900's vibe to it that is just amazing, I love the story too! This game just makes me think of really old Sunday morning cartoons like He-man or Tom and Jerry. Absolutely love this game.
In my several years of playing Cuphead, I've only ever had one glitch happen
@61k That's what today's society is like sadly
@@feetdelete4409 Wow! I'd consider you lucky! That's a rare occurrence with Cuphead
@@Nadeli0 For normal gamers, yes. For speedrunners? They abuse as many glitches as they can usually. For example, Super Mario 64. Heck, speedrunners are able to use so many glitches that they have to make CATEGORIES for speedruns that have the same end goal.
@@watermelongaming3698 wow! Didn't know that! I guess I'll have to watch some Cuphead speedruns now huh?
Honestly, its worth it, how long it took for this dlc to come out. The saltbaker fight was absolutely incredible and so creative. And the clay backrounds were stunning.
Jack: *finishes the cowcowgirl level* "that was a fun one."
Also Jack: *5 minutes ago:* *SCREAMS IN PAIN* 💖💖💖
Sean actually nailed the mugman voice, even without seeing the show!
yea
Eh... Mugman's voice is more nasally than Sean's impression IMO. Good attempt, though.
The KnockOut FakeOut was so clever I sat there in shock for like 5 mins just seething in anger and appreciation
My brain during the Esther Winchester fight: Oh, she's an outlaw. A cow outlaw. A COWTLAW
Jack: stands still doing nothing, completely unprepared while yelling at the boss to attack
Boss: *attacks*
Jack: UNFAIR
The animation in this DLC is blowing me away. The smoothness of Saltbaker pulling on his little chef's tie is amazing!!!
Gotta say, both Jack and Cuphead have aged like a fine wine. So great to see them both again
I love the fact that saltbaker says "Heart and Soul is the secret ingredient". Love the foreshadowing there.
“Dont look at the enemy, look at yourself cuz theres so much happening”
*Not even a second later*
“Did you get turned into sausages”
Man, these videos never get old do they
The reason I love Jack’s videos is that he doesn’t just play a game.
When I think about game devs that care about sheer quality and their fans, I think about studio MDHR
6:00 This was adorable. I did NOT expect it to say “extry”. I’ve never heard someone say extry instead of extra lol
I love the joy, excitement and pride in that laugh because of how he somehow called what the paper boy was about to say without even knowing it. Also thank you for the time stamp, I’ll be putting it to good use
