I love how you can clearly tell who the artist/animator bemoaning the loss of his stages is, and who the programmer whose eyes are glued to the screen is
Well, a lot of old arcade game is designed to be played over and over again in one run (no continue), demanding absolute perfection (Metal Slug, Ikaruga, contra etc). Its not that difference from speedrun, and I bet the game take notes from a lot of run and gun game of old time.
Ever heard of the games Hades? The developers placed timer on the game for the speedrunners. Well that game was pure RNG but speedrunners found a way to know what upgrade they're going to get next.
@@fn326 In computing, random is never truly random. Editing to clarify: everything in a computer is based off of a formula, thus even random is skewed. In the early Final Fantasy games, one needed only to find out which of the 256 bits (never 0 though) stored an enemy to transform their selection into one of their choice of fighting. Developers attempted to get around this by tying RNG triggers to events such as jumping, firing weapons, step counts and even number of fights. Most developers take it like its offensive or that the player is disrespecting the game by skipping parts when speedrunning is like the ultimate sign of appreciation for a game. Same, very well-mannered, professional, and they knew exactly what the speedrunner was doing. "Oh he's doing that glitch, we couldn't fix that one before release, oh and he's doing that one" etc. etc. Remarkable. This has left a very positive impression of game devs on me.
Sounds like the Moldenhauers have lavelier mics, that’s the sound of adjusting a shirt or jacket if I had to guess. Would have assumed that IGN would mute their lav mic in post when that happens, it makes a pretty screwy waveform.
It’s amazing how polished a game can look but how rough it can truly be revealed to be by speed runners. No offense to game devs of course they make amazing games like Cuphead!!!
There is a german RUclips show called "Speedrundale" that does it. Most of the time the runners show games they are currently practising the runs and explain the strats and set the whole thing into perspective for nonrunners. Sadly it's almost exclusively in german and with german runners which limits the viewerbase quite a bit.
Me: took me about a week to get to the final boss pretty impressive right? Speed runner: yeah! That’s impressive! I I did it in just a little bit less time.
I love how devs are so proud that their game not only becomes popular, but is a very well liked speedrun game AND are also proud that it can be broken like this
I straight up have ptsd from this game and to see and hear the creators humbly appreciate someone breaking their game is amazing and makes me want to replay this game
@@kriticalitylives Nah, he didn't ask for feet pics- or my favorite line. "I wanna see you all nice and nakey" Hardest I've laughed at someone hands down.
I love it when the devs don’t get upset and really enjoy watching these speed runs. Sometimes they seem a little salty about the speed run strats, but it’s nice to hear them enjoying themselves watching it.
It always surprises me when the devs are so happy with people breaking their game, I’d imagined that most people would try to patch speed run bugs like Nintendo.
@@gaius5901 Nintendo is not the Disney of the gaming industry. They are the definition of quality over quantity. They produce some of the best games of the generations. They have less anti consumerism practices than Xbox and ps4 and have a way better track record.

King Dice: Boss! They're here Devil: Who? King Dice: Those cup bros, they finished collecting all the soul contracts. Devil: The hell? It hasn't even been an hour
I love seeing devs appreciate the time and effort the speedrunners take to perfect the game. It seems like it's usually like "oh, we spent so much time on this. Oh well." Nice change of pace here
This is a lot different then the Half Life 2 Dev team. Seems the creators where aware of the glitches, but just never had the time to fix them. All the same I know I could never do this. Take about 10 minutes for me to load each level, oh well, it's worth it to play it on a Black and White T.V.
Most pc speedruns don't take loading the into account, so if you're on pc, loading times aren't an excuse :) But yeah, I love the fact that they almost sounds like speedrunners the way they're talking, because most of the time they know what's going on, but they still get to be surprised about what's happening. It's surprising how little I've seen that to be honest...
I love it when developers love every part of their fanbase. Even the part that actively searches for glitches and breaks the game they spent hours, months, even years of their time to make.
Most devs: Oh wow that's a huge glitch, I'm gonna fix that. These Devs: Oh this is so cool, i'm glad they are breaking the game, Oh and we intended that trick I swear!

Same, very well-mannered, professional, and they knew exactly what the speedrunner was doing. "Oh he's doing that glitch, we couldn't fix that one before release, oh and he's doing that one" etc. etc. Remarkable. This has left a very positive impression of game devs on me.
It has to be a small studio, and these devs have to be gamers themselves first

Lmaooo
Sounds like the Moldenhauers have lavelier mics, that’s the sound of adjusting a shirt or jacket if I had to guess. Would have assumed that IGN would mute their lav mic in post when that happens, it makes a pretty screwy waveform.
I love it when devs are aware of speedrun glitches and dont patch them.
I think they did patch them because he mentioned it was a beta version or like the first version of the game
@@Evan-go4nn Yep. Its also why "any%" and "any% current patch" can be 2 different categories.
They did patch it, but the speedrunner is playing on the legacy edition, the first version where it has like a million glitches
I love how these devs recognize unintended mechanics can make a game better (assuming it doesn't break normal play) and even embrace them
Watching him crush that robot in 14 seconds was so satisfying.

I would love to see the speedrunner commentating alongside so he can explain some of the stuff he's doing
There is a german RUclips show called "Speedrundale" that does it. Most of the time the runners show games they are currently practising the runs and explain the strats and set the whole thing into perspective for nonrunners. Sadly it's almost exclusively in german and with german runners which limits the viewerbase quite a bit.
It would be really hard for them to focus on the game ,so don't think they will do commenting

It always surprises me when the devs are so happy with people breaking their game, I’d imagined that most people would try to patch speed run bugs like Nintendo.
Because Nintendo is the Disney of the gaming industry. They're greedy and hate on their consumers who show them things they could fix.
@@gaius5901 Nintendo is not the Disney of the gaming industry. They are the definition of quality over quantity. They produce some of the best games of the generations. They have less anti consumerism practices than Xbox and ps4 and have a way better track record.

You guys should check out Dean Takahashi's 23 minute tutorial speedrun
When mom says your going to the store in half an hour
This is a lot different then the Half Life 2 Dev team. Seems the creators where aware of the glitches, but just never had the time to fix them. All the same I know I could never do this. Take about 10 minutes for me to load each level, oh well, it's worth it to play it on a Black and White T.V.
You play it on a black and white TV??? I bet it looks cool as hell!! I love this old timey art style.
To be fair, the run has load time taken out of it, so the 10 minute loads wouldn't matter.
When the game is loading the run time is paused untill the load finishes
Most pc speedruns don't take loading the into account, so if you're on pc, loading times aren't an excuse :)
But yeah, I love the fact that they almost sounds like speedrunners the way they're talking, because most of the time they know what's going on, but they still get to be surprised about what's happening. It's surprising how little I've seen that to be honest...
I'd like to see team cherry to react to hollow knight since that game is one of the hardest games out there.
I love it when developers love every part of their fanbase. Even the part that actively searches for glitches and breaks the game they spent hours, months, even years of their time to make.
