Yeah but then you realize that they also completely messed up her swinging. I was never able to finish the game when I was a kid, so when I played Rehydrated 2 years ago, I was pretty proud of myself for finding all the socks and spatulas, MOSTLY without looking anything up. 10 year old me would be thrilled. I do not regret this revisit to the game. I'm happy they were able to do it! EDIT: I did actually play the audio in Japanese out of request from stream chat at the time! It was fun and refreshing!
Thank you for mentioning the language options! The presence of dubs is no small feat. Undoubtedly Nickelodeon has the money and talent to have them, but considering they were missing in the original release it really felt like a gift for non English-speaking fans. Let's hope that Cosmic Shake will still feature them!
I have never played the rehydrated version but I remember loving jellyfish fields more than the flying dutchmans graveyard. I loved jellyfish fields because it was a fun level with a good taste of combat and platforming and that main theme is a pure injection of nostalgia right into my veins. I was not a huge fan of the graveyard just because of that damn wall jump move that I remember sucking at and getting stuck on the timing of that one spinning contraption you mention.
In other news, local game reviewer, Micheal from Gamespot, only has to start the bowling animation behind the button, and yet he continues to start the animation on top of it. *_When will he learn?_*
Welcome back Buns! I actually tried out Rehydrated after seeing your OG video. The Gamespot and IGN reviews were pretty mystifyingly stupid. The game is a great example of what licensed games can be. It's a fun game with solid mechanics and the jokes are in the spirit of the show, so nothing cheapens the brand. Not a perfect game, but still very colorful and charming like the Golden Age of Spongebob.
Honestly it feels like the real reason RUclips hid the dislike button and why modern entertainment constantly tries to demonize comments sections is a unified attempt to silence people’s actual opinions.
Omg I wasn't expecting to see myself in the fan spotlight! QwQ I'm so happy you loved the Miitopia bun! I made you a tank because it looks awesome. Also bang bang boom boom comedy. This video was so wonderful and amazing and I loved every second of it ❤️❤️❤️
This game means a lot to me, being the first video game I ever played, being a massive SpongeBob fan and being my introduction into collect-athon platformers. Yeah, it's nothing groundbreaking, but it makes me happy knowing this game was a part of a lot of people's childhoods and getting more recognition now.
I don't think I've ever seen a video on RUclips that I'd describe as "perfect," but this might just fit the bill Excellent voice for narration, fantastic line delivery, great mic quality, snappy and hilarious editing, and - most importantly - that delicious, delicious video length. If it's not nearly an hour long, it's not worth my time! Can't wait to see more from what is obviously gonna be my new favorite channel
I think one of my biggest issues with the reviewers (aside from literally everything they said) is the "go play the original" like homie... some of us don't have a ps2 anymore and I don't feel like buying one that's over $200 and it might work. Remasters make games more accessible to people as well as improving upon them, so it's always a delight when one comes out. I never got to play a lot of games because I simply didn't have the system or money for it, so now all these remasters coming out on the next gen consoles warms my heart because I can finally play them. I don't know just something I thought about upon watching. Anyways amazing video Buns! 🖤

Actually Buns makes a good point. Y'all know how difficult it'd be for a toasted buttered slice of bread to handle a computer without arms? I dunno if she does it via her tongue pressing her keyboard's keys or having someone do it for her (maybe even voice-operated) but she has no arms and this video actually came out. 10/10 for bread-kind, am amazed you could even get this far born that way. You also have my sincerest sympathies and my apologies if I've offended.

Very entertaining review; Was very hyped to see a childhood favorite get a well-deserved remake, and was overall pretty happy with how it turned out. I'm happy that it can give modern players the chance to check out this game on modern platforms and Steam, thus enhancing the accessibility, and giving more attention to the crazy ass speedruns this game gets. The boy slams his feet into a lighthouse and flies across the ocean. Just... Wow. In any case, definitely excited for future uploads, and now I have a backlog to look into. ;3

One thing I'll always appreciate about this game is that in most of the maps/areas, you can see the other locations off in the distance, and they all stay consistent in regards to where they should be in the world
this video cracked me up sm, one thing i wish they would’ve kept the same in rehydrated is the combos! you can no longer earn a super-ultra-mega-monster combo for 200 shiny objects as the combo meter maxes out much earlier for whatever reason
good and super entertaining video! loved all the spongebob references throughout and overall it was extremely enjoyable, rehydrated isnt a game im personally very fond of as i feel like it missed the mark on a lot (heck the music in the game was just fake stereo recreations of the original using youtube rips until someone in the community pushed for the stereo tracks to be released and it still hasnt been patched in) but i do really enjoy this review and its nice to see someone really enthusiastic about this game and its remake, excellent work!
The 10 month hiatus is finally over! Thanks for putting out a new video, I've always loved your reviews and it's so good to see you putting content up again. I agree, this game was reviewed pretty unfairly it's a banger!
This game to me is just a perfect remaster to a childhood game. They didn't fuck it up by half-assing it and they didn't over do it either. It plays like the original, but updated to modern standards. Just right.
I thought I'd never played this game but this video pulled some deeply embedded memories from my brain of kicking my cousin off his own xbox to play this even though I'd been purely a gameboy child up until that point. it was indeed some dumb fun smashing tiki boxes.
I really liked this remake/remaster, I even 100%ed it the first week it came out because I was so happy about how good it looked and how tight the controls were, as well as QoL changes. As a basic game where you get 70 Spatulas, it's fantastic--still a great platformer. But it's such a damn, DAMN shame of what they skipped out on: -The 100% "reward" for this game still sucks. It's still just a do-nothing cutscene that unlocks nothing, and the theatre, which previously had concept art for things like Robot Squidward and such, now just has...crappy screenshots. Of the game you're playing. Of places you could go to yourself. Of places you've BEEN TO by now. HUGE disappointment. -Cut content wasn't added into this remake, at least, not the way we expected. I remember them saying that they were going to fully flesh out Patrick's Dream and add in the Robot Squidward fight, which I was really excited for because I saw some betas of Patrick's Dream from the OG and it looked kinda cool. But nah, it was just shoved into the crappy VS mode. -The VS mode is awful: connection is garbage, moves are limited for no reason, characters are practically the same combat wise, it's just trash. -They outright removed Speedrunning tricks from this version. I remember a live interview of them saying they were bouncing ideas of what they wanted to do to appease the Speedrunning community, maybe adding a toggle to allow glitches. But nope, that never happened. Fuck you and your Cruise Bubble, I guess. -So I heard this was patched, I don't remember exactly, but while you CAN use a GameCube controller for the Switch version of this game, you CAN'T map the buttons. Suddenly X is Y and A is B, etc. I don't know if this was fixed yet, but if not, huge letdown--I loved the GameCube controller's controls for this game. I don't regret buying this, but honestly, I'm gonna stick to the original if I want to play this again.
Saying they “removed” speedrunning tricks is disingenuous. The game was built from the ground up, so they would’ve had to spend development time purposely adding in glitches from the old game. Considering how buggy and rushed the game felt at launch, it’s completely understandable they prioritized other things. They clearly weren’t given enough time to make the game the best it could be so it made sense to focus on polishing the main game instead of taking the time to add in a “speedrunning mode” when speedrunners could always just play the original.
@@pokepwned Your point is a little shakier when you consider they added things like the death plane to stop you from jumping to the bottom of the slide like you always could before. Just saying.
@@IzraelGraves The devs had made it clear beforehand that they weren’t okay with keeping in exploits that would affect a casual playthrough, like being able to grab the ledge to skip most of the room in the Mermalair as well as the slide skip you’re referring to. Both of those can and have been easily discovered by casual players with no prior knowledge. On a casual playthrough, they didn’t make the game better, but rather allowed the level design to be entirely ignored. During discussions the devs had with the BfBB speedrunning community, the community near-unanimously agreed with this approach of fixing exploits that affect a casual playthrough.
@@IzraelGraves You’re correct. They’re pretty basic tricks, but they are indeed used in speedruns. Though it does go back to my point on how they spent the short development time they had tweaking and polishing the main game rather than adding in speedrun tricks that were lost when the game was rebuilt from the ground up. These seem to be the type of tricks that op is referring to. Tricks like cruise-boosting and sponge-gliding. I don’t think the devs would have communicated with the speedrunning community at all if they never intended to listen to their feedback and take it into account. They weren’t given enough time by Nickelodeon or THQ or whomever else to go about the issue in the ideal way. The reason they got to fixing the exploits we’re talking about is because they used their short development time to focus on how the vast majority of players would play the game: casually. They seriously did consider adding iconic speedrunning tricks from the original game back in-which is something 99% of devs wouldn’t have even considered-but simply ran out of time.
I haven't played this game in over 15 years yet everything you said from level design, combat I still remember as true. That's how iconic this game is.
That GameSpot review is still a mix of both hilarious and downright infuriating to watch. I mean sure Rehydrated isn't flawless by any means but...come on, man.
When you said it would be better if there was a mini boss at the end of Kelp Forest it reminded me of how when I was a kid me and my step siblings could never get past the tiki buttons part and having seen the concept art for the cut robo Squidward boss, we theorized that it was actually in the game and that it was hidden in the only part of the game we hadn't seen yet, the end of Kelp Forest.
Always thought I was one of the few who played and loved this game when I was younger. It was a verry nice to find out just how much of a cult following this game had.
I fell off from watching Spongebob in my later teens, but this was still fun hearing you talk about. Happy to see the ripping of the "professional" reviews over petty stuff and that this game has been a hit with its fans.
Bread Mom probably will not see this, but after seeing this will be on XBox Game Pass in March 2024, i remembered this video, and i cannot wait to play this.
Finally, a good review of this game. Spongebob's Dream is actually my least favorite level, because of its difficulty. I actually felt that they toned it down some in Rehydrated. Except for the death plane that keeps you from skipping the slide near the start, I wanna punch the developer that put that there when it wasn't there in the original. Let me jump right to the bottom, darn you! I'll forever like the Sandy's Dream level though. Slidin' texan fun, yeehaw, pardner.
Huzzah! I never got into SpongeBob myself, but I truly enjoyed watching you play. Loved the whole bit regarding Remake/Remasters. Engaging, hilarious, and deeply thoughtful. Lovely work as always.
20:37 You have literally vocalized my exact thoughts towards the pokemon fandom these past few years. You have my whole hearted thanks and praises, have a like and a sub
I think a neat thing would be a New Game plus mode where you get to play with the additional multiplayer characters, who could get their own unique abilities for traversal and combat. Squidward having an AOE stun ability with hie clarinet, and being able to scale certain obstacles that other characters have to platform around Krabs being able to collect the game's currency easier, and having extra protection from his own shell Just two ideas to throw out there
Buns came from the death for the second time just to protect the series that created her sense of comedy

EDIT: I did actually play the audio in Japanese out of request from stream chat at the time! It was fun and refreshing!
And did Plankton really sound like that in Japanese?

Buns always comes back when she’s needed .
The steam page seems to say so
Hopefully Latin American fans don't need to wait for a free update, but at least it was free
I was not expecting an absolute roast on the mainstream reviews for this game but I’m so glad you did 😂😂😂😂
Welcome back Buns!
I mean the ign revewer could of tried to stand behind the platform then bowl, simple.
Honestly it feels like the real reason RUclips hid the dislike button and why modern entertainment constantly tries to demonize comments sections is a unified attempt to silence people’s actual opinions.
Omg I wasn't expecting to see myself in the fan spotlight! QwQ
I'm so happy you loved the Miitopia bun!
That bit with the language settings alone sold me on this game; I laughed SO hard when I heard Japanese Plankton
honored to be featured in a masterpiece from the bread matriarch herself
Were u the egg?
"You will give me an egg."
You’re one of the funniest persons out there, loved watching this one!
I don't think I've ever seen a video on RUclips that I'd describe as "perfect," but this might just fit the bill
Excellent voice for narration, fantastic line delivery, great mic quality, snappy and hilarious editing, and - most importantly - that delicious, delicious video length. If it's not nearly an hour long, it's not worth my time! Can't wait to see more from what is obviously gonna be my new favorite channel
Love the passion here 🥺

I think one of my biggest issues with the reviewers (aside from literally everything they said) is the "go play the original" like homie... some of us don't have a ps2 anymore and I don't feel like buying one that's over $200 and it might work. Remasters make games more accessible to people as well as improving upon them, so it's always a delight when one comes out. I never got to play a lot of games because I simply didn't have the system or money for it, so now all these remasters coming out on the next gen consoles warms my heart because I can finally play them. I don't know just something I thought about upon watching. Anyways amazing video Buns! 🖤
Big FREAKING facts!
Where the hell are you going that a PS2 is over $200???
@@bigcheffi you'd be surprised how much they be going for these days.

I'm glad to hear your voice and snarky opinnions again. Please take care of yourself, your fans will still be here rooting for you
Yayuu thanks buns! We love you and hope you're doing okay! I played the shit out of this as a kid and couldnt believe it when i saw you make the first video. Then, didnt hear about rehydrated till a week before release- both such insane emotional moments. I like to think you helped make this possible no matter what
I feel like this video was made purely for Bun to have an excuse to edit SpongeBob clips into a video and I’m perfectly fine with that.
This video made me finally buy Rehydrated as I never played the original. 100% completed it last night. While I beat it in only a few days, I absolutely loved my journey. Thanks, Buns, and welcome back!
A new Buns video???? This just made quarantine much better!
Awesome remake, even with the terrible development situations.
I very much enjoy watching this! Best timing I just finished rewatching the vod for you playing it on your second account. Very fun times! 💜 can’t wait to see more, Buns!
13:36 “just back up. Oh my god JUST BACK UP” *boom*
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve replayed this part of the vid lol. Probably more times than there are Golden Spatulas but somehow less times than when that guy kept doing the bowling switch wrong 🤣🤣🧐🧐
Just... Wow.
In any case, definitely excited for future uploads, and now I have a backlog to look into. ;3
I've never played the original, but I think rehydrated is super fun and I love it
The amount of references in this was so good! This was an amazing video and exciting to see more!
Buns, I could seriously listen to you rip into game journalists all day lmfao 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for giving a fun game from my childhood the respect it deserves.

My brother used to play the hell outta this game when he was like 3 to 5. We always used to watch and cheer him on-me and my sisters.
good and super entertaining video! loved all the spongebob references throughout and overall it was extremely enjoyable, rehydrated isnt a game im personally very fond of as i feel like it missed the mark on a lot (heck the music in the game was just fake stereo recreations of the original using youtube rips until someone in the community pushed for the stereo tracks to be released and it still hasnt been patched in) but i do really enjoy this review and its nice to see someone really enthusiastic about this game and its remake, excellent work!
I'm so happy to see you come back, Butter! I hope you've been doing well 😊
So one of my favorite youtubers comes back and talks about a game I have always loved its fuckin Christmas again
Just right.
Great to have you back buns!!! Thank you for the laughs!!
Never knew how much I needed a Yelling About video about Rehydrated until the notification popped up 🥰
13:23 when you said “just back it up” you should have inserted the scene where squidward just says “Back it up” from the krusty krab pizza episode😂
Welcome back, missing all that sass reviews and roasting, top content right there
Once I heard “oh SpongeBob your getting me flustered” I knew this was gonna be a classic
I’m pretty sure the reason why the developers decided to do a remaster was because they saw the speedrun of it at GDQ.
Glad you’re back with videos. Can’t express how much you make my day each time :)
Thank you for making this review and sharing it with us. It was a fun watch!
Spongebob stole Mermaid Man's tongue to add to replenish his own after it was worn down from all that sliding.
I thought I'd never played this game but this video pulled some deeply embedded memories from my brain of kicking my cousin off his own xbox to play this even though I'd been purely a gameboy child up until that point. it was indeed some dumb fun smashing tiki boxes.
I like to think Buns spent the last year and change working on new ways to roast reviewers and I salute that
So what game are you going to resurrect next, Buns?
With any luck, a good Tales game.
@@Dire_Pants so a Berseria remaster?
@Phantom I'd take it over Zestiria. But I was thinking more like a Phantasia overhaul. Or any of the PS1/2 games I never got the chance to play.
Nah I’m just glad you’re back buns, yt hasn’t been the same without you screaming about everything. She’s back guys !
You just... you just had to break my heart with that Bionicle picture didn't you...
I really liked this remake/remaster, I even 100%ed it the first week it came out because I was so happy about how good it looked and how tight the controls were, as well as QoL changes. As a basic game where you get 70 Spatulas, it's fantastic--still a great platformer. But it's such a damn, DAMN shame of what they skipped out on:
-The 100% "reward" for this game still sucks.
@@pokepwned Those are still two speedrunning tricks that got removed. Full stop.
I'll have you know I found out Spongebob's French voice is also Beck in Mighty No. 9 and I only cried like an anime fan on prom night for 20 minutes
50 minutes of Buns?! LET’S GOOOOOOO!!

This video is really well structured and had a lot of love put into it. Very much appreciated. Thanks for making an hour of my day a happy one!
I fell off from watching Spongebob in my later teens, but this was still fun hearing you talk about. Happy to see the ripping of the "professional" reviews over petty stuff and that this game has been a hit with its fans.
Def worth sitting through a 50 minute video for the experience I got. Well done, Buns.

27:48 Y'know, for rock bottom to be confusing and hard to navigate kind of fits how it is on the show 😂
Finally, a good review of this game.
I NEVER CLICK SOMETHING SO FAST IN MY LIFE
Omg the Atomic Twins F is for Friends Who Fall in Love song is so perfectly placed here I'm cryinggg

You have my whole hearted thanks and praises, have a like and a sub
I think a neat thing would be a New Game plus mode where you get to play with the additional multiplayer characters, who could get their own unique abilities for traversal and combat.
Squidward having an AOE stun ability with hie clarinet, and being able to scale certain obstacles that other characters have to platform around
Krabs being able to collect the game's currency easier, and having extra protection from his own shell
Just two ideas to throw out there
