  • Welcome to the battle of the bloodbenders: Amon vs Katara. If you think Amon is a one-trick pony or that Katara is an unmatched prodigy then you’re gonna wanna keep watching because there are a lot more nuances here than you might think.
    I’ll explain why Amon is formidable even without his OP bloodbending, and I’ll also answer the question as to whether Katara could control others without the full moon. No matter what you think the outcome will be, I promise that by the end of this video, you’ll appreciate both characters in a whole new light.
    This is the Versus Series!

      Katara was able to dodge attacks from Ty Lee (one of the best unarmed combatants in the entire franchise) while sleep-deprived (which slows reaction speed). If anything that shows Katara is better at unarmed fighting than most give her credit for.

    That is a good 1v1 analysis battle. Some fans would overhype Katara's skill when her blood-bending feats don't support it. She will lose plain and simple. And I believe that the creators intended it to happen, to make Amon's threat to be as big as it is for Korra to overcome.

      She didn’t have no bloodbending feats because she never had to use it and didn’t want to use it. Katara is the only person to bloodbend without proper training. Even Amon needed to train from the moon and work his way to day time. Katara resisted bloodbending with no training there is no way that their was no possibility she couldn’t bloodbend in the day time. Hama stated that it’s only a night time full moon ability and it was against katara’s outlook. She definitely would resist the bloodbending and no diff Amon. Katara literally negs so badly! 🤣

      @@Rando_180, sorry buddy, I'm gonna tell you straight up. Amon can do it too, and he did it to a blood bender that had the same training as him, so it's not exclusive to Katara only, who had to use the moon to breakout of Blood Bending. And no, her blood bending is just like Hama and would be just like Hama's if she chooses to use it, cuz like you said, she never needed use it, doesn't want to it, and has no training to use it, so she would never be in the same level of blood bending as Amon, Yakone, or even Amon's you her brother.

      @@notfex1427 Amon is featless and has terrible waterbending feats. He legit doesn’t even beat his brother with the water bending feats. His bloodbending was legit restrained from Korra’s will power alone and he was the “superior bloodbender”. Katara never once stated she couldn’t bloodbend without the full moon she just never tried to because she believes it’s wrong. She’s the only person to have no training of bloodbending and resist it/ do the actual technique herself. She absolutely claps Amon and her brother at the same time and sends them to hell. Katara> Korra in water bending and bloodbending/ willpower therefore the feats show she just beats both at the same time. Probably 1v3s the brothers and the father if we’re honest. Katara is just that strong. Arguably the strongest bender who isn’t an avatar in the show along with Toph.

I love Katara, but for me Amon without a doubt, I believe that even if Katara could and wanted to use bloodbending (so with a full moon) Amon would be able to overpower her as he did with Tarrlok or as Katara herself did with Hama, plus... what the hell would Amon be able to do with the full moon if he boosts his already terrible power? Something I think is overlooked about bloodbending is the mindset that is likely needed. Much like lightningbending requires an unemotional and focused mind, it appears to me that bloodbending needs a vicious and aggressive mindset, or at least benefits from it. Katara only used it under extreme emotional distress or an outright desire for revenge and causing pain. Ordinarily, however, Katara is compassionate and has little cruel intent, and I imagine that would make her much worse at bloodbending. Even though Katara has done it twice, I doubt she can do it at will anytime. And as she gets older and grows emotionally, she probably actually gets _worse_ at it over time. That's my take on it.

    Amon was a prodigy and took bloodbending to the next level, being able to bloodbend without the moon and without hand movement. He was also extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and was able to fight top tier fighters without waterbending and with minimal bloodbending. He was a true fighter and probably the strongest antagonist in the the whole series, including the antagonists of the prequel.

    From one power scaler to another, well done Antoine. This video is an example of how power scaling works, going by what we know (as in the evidence in the series) instead of going by what we don’t know (speculation) while also going who would be the most likely to win. Can’t wait to see your future vs vids.

    • @AntoineBandele
      @AntoineBandele  6 месяцев назад +1

      Oh, I am not a powerscaler, to be clear, and as stated in the video. I prefer looking at the matchups based on narrative, not based on calcs of animated content that is inconsistent from one series to the other, or even episode to episode. And as Stan Lee says, "The one who wins the fight is the one the writer wants to win the fight." Powerscaling has its place, put it is not an end all be all for me at all. @@AntoineBandele That’s the thing man, power scaling is just a form of narrative analysis. We’re looking at the series and the statements within it as well as the feats or capabilities of the characters to not only see what they can do but also who would more likely win in a fight. We’re using our real world knowledge to understand the limits of the characters based on the narrative itself. Calcs is just one part of power scaling, analyzing the narrative is also a part of it.

    While agreeing with most of what you said, I believe there are things you did not think about:
    1) Katara was not only strong enough no blood bent Hama, she did it first try and instantly. One would even say she also blood bent Aang and Soka for a second, otherwise they would have collided before the "reaction time" of them would even end. To bend 3 people on the first try and prevent any kind of movement from them instantly is very powerful. That means that Katara is very strong and can adapt very quickly to the situation in addition she had never been needed to use more powerful blood bending so saying she can't, might be very wrong.
    2) Amon had never been seen fighting without blood bending. Now just to be clear that might be that he is the greatest one ever lived but more realistic is to say he never needed that. His blood bending was enough and I'm not sure if he has the techniques to fight without it. So in a fight (which we assume that Katara is strong enough to overcome his blood bending) I don't think he has a chance. So in this case it all comes to the question: Is Katara stronger? And I don't know how to answer that. All I know is that, at any point in the series (after she mastered water bending) Katara didn't lack power. Sure there were scenes she gave a blow with less than 100% or didn't have enough water around, but she was never in a situation where she is not powerful enough.
    In conclusion I am not sure who wins. But even if that goes to Amon in his prime vs 14 yo Katara, I think that adult Katara would be a different story.

    • @AntoineBandele
      @AntoineBandele  6 месяцев назад +8

      Literally everything in your comment was addressed in the video.
      Katara’s age is irrelevant. She loses via bloodbending at any age. This is because of the Yakone court case, which made it known that bloodbending without the full moon was not a common thing, meaning Katara never did it without the full moon. Nor did Katara elevate her bending to the level of psychic bloodbending like Yakone and Amon. The family line are simply more powerful raw waterbenders (again, remember that bloodbending is waterbending, it’s not some entirely new form of bending).

    I personally don't see a power creep issue with Yakone's bloodline having the ability to blood bend without the full moon, I think the implication is pretty strong that they are just some genetic freaks when it comes to water bending strength, and this is unique to them, in my opinion there's no reason to think that just any powerful water bender could do it, saying Yakone is just naturally stronger, while true, i think is an understatement, he is more like a freak of nature.
    Edit: Individuals that break the rules of magic can be a really cool way to make a terrifying villain, which is definitely the case with LoK's bloodbenders!

      While I don't disagree with the basis of your comment, what I take issue with is that its seems Mike and Bryan are sort of fixated on the storyline of outliers (in terms of power and power levels). In Book 2, it led to Cosmic Korra and Unavaatu. In Book 3, it led to unassisted flight with Zaheer (and the outlier abilities all his homies had). In Book 4, it led to a giant mech. I just don't want to see them constantly tell those sorts of stories. Every time they do, it diminishes the overall magic, in my opinion. It's true that the base idea of that freak of nature is terrifying, and I still think Amon is quite terrifying as a character. But that idea has diminishing returns.

    • @ManuraAriyathilake
      @ManuraAriyathilake 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@AntoineBandele Yeah I can definitely see what you mean! a few more lines of dialogue could have done some heavy lifting in terms of explaining it in a way more aligned with serving to expand the magic system (maybe have it written so that their blood line was once blessed by a spirit long ago and as a result they have a permanent connection to the full moon something like that), while I do love moon-less blood bending and unassisted flight, cosmic korra, unavaatu and the mech are really pushing it lol.
      Unrelated but I'd like to also add my 2 cents about something else in the video, where Yakone and Amon are scaled very similarly, they're the top 2 no doubt about it but I'd argue specifically that Yakone is much more powerful, mainly due to the courtroom scene, Tarrlok says that his father stopped training him after Noatak ran away, resulting in Tarrlok only knowing how to blood bend with his hands.
      (My Headcanon) Noatak also probably didn't train much either, in terms of power atleast, if he had continued training it's more than likely that he would surpass Yakone's power by miles but I believe he never reached that point, his hatred for bending would discourage him from grinding his power, leading to him instead surpassing his father in skill, learning to sever chi paths, and do subtle blood bending to throw other benders off.
      Though Amon was never in a situation where blood bending 63 people at once would be a good idea, I personally doubt that he is capable of anything close to that :P

    Yaasss!
    _This_ was the segment I was most looking forward to. You finally addressed the oversight you made in your first Katara vs. Amon vid about full moon bloodbending.
    You even included a plausible theory on how Korra fought through Amon's grip. Heh, I thought of Mako's lightning weakening his grip in that moment years ago, but I also think Korra knocking Amon around with air blasts also factored in weakening him. I didn't consider doubt creeping in for Amon being yet another factor, though.

      We also know that lightning generation creates massive amounts of energy. It’s possible that Amon was having trouble restraining the massive amounts of chi surging through Mako’s body, which is what allowed Mako to move just enough to provide the release that the lightning was begging for.

    • @Deined
      @Deined 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@KnuttyEntertainment Amon doesn't actively restrain his victims' chi while they're in his grip; he just holds the victims in place until he can press the spot on their foreheads and block their chi. It's doubtful he can even sense chi until he touches his victim to block it.
      That's likely part of how Mako was able to surprise him with that lightning blast.

    As for the actual vid i like the new format alot idk if itll stick but i think it was a good way to look at this match in particular.
    As for what was said in the video i agree with most of it.
    Amons blood bending is just straight up op and really theres little if any non avatars i could see actually beating amon.
    Also i like the assessment of blood bending you gave.
    I was and still am of the belief that any bended can learn the subsets of their elements as i just feel it makes sense personally tho the series itself seems to differ in that opinion at times.
    Only thing i disagreed with was some of your comments on power scaling but tbf its power scaling i dont blame ya for not liking to use numbers when it comes to vs battles.

    Awesome video, great to see these back again! One thing I wanted to comment on: I think the logic behind Yakone’s statement about their family’s power being genetic being fallible should also be applied to Katara stating that the reason she broke free from Hama is because her bending is more powerful. Katara stans cling to that line but realistically, Katara has no way of knowing what allowed her to break free, it’s not like she had some deep knowledge of bloodbending and how it works. We really don’t know what factors into somebody breaking free from bloodbending. It could be raw water bending power, it could be based on a character’s aptitude for blood bending, or it could be something entirely different given that we’ve seen non water benders escape before.
    Also, whether it makes sense or not, I think that Yakones statement about the ability being genetic is going to hold true. Psychic bloodbending at any time is just too unbalanced of an ability in the Avatar world. If that is something that is able to become commonplace similar to lightning or metal bending, it is just going to invalidate anyone who doesn’t have the ability. If we ever get to see avatars after Korra I won’t be surprised if bloodbending at any time is not something that other characters are able to do

    • @AntoineBandele

    There are a few parts of the logic I have issues with.
    1. Bloodbending doesn’t have to be only determined by power or skill, they aren’t mutually exclusive and realistically it would take a significant amount of skill to manipulate a body, I believe there’s also a creator quote supporting this by discussing the natural chi field that people have around them and that it’s much more difficult than just bending an open body of water. I don’t think a quote is really needed to come to that conclusion though. My point being blood bending prowess would be measured on a mix of skill and power.
    2. Amon’s water bending: I generally agree that Amon is likely still a great water bender but his blood bending abilities are not necessarily a direct representation of his overall water bending. That’s like saying someone who is the best at handling a basketball and moving around the court is undeniably the best basketball player.
    3. Blood bending resistance: something that wasn’t discussed is the fact that all shown blood bending feats are surprise feats. So, when discussing the ability to break out of a blood bending grip, most people who are victim to it have never experienced it before and would have no reasonable response. The only people to fully break from a grip have been trained blood benders, excluding avatar state conditions. Point being it’s more reasonable that Katara would be able to break the grip than given credit for. Even Amon took a moment of struggle to break free.
    You mentioned Korra breaking free due to damage from Mako but the fact that Mako was able to resist enough to shoot lightning in the first place while not being a water bender and having no prior blood bending done on him before this fight shows that there’s more to resisting it than just water bending prowess. Additionally, Amon’s most powerful or skillful uses of blood bending, describe it how you will, being when he completely rag dolls the target where done while bending with his hands. That is to say, Mako was able to resist Amon’s best blood bending technique while Amon hadn’t received any damage before this moment aside from being gently pushed off the stage.
    4. Aside from Korra being able to air bend after her bending being removed essentially being a plot hole, you make a will power argument for her being able to break out but against katara being able to which is contradictory.
    Ultimately I still think it would be a very difficult fight but closer than most give credit for. Blood bending at this level clearly broke the power system which is why Amon had to be eliminated the way he was.

    • @ZETA_FOX
      @ZETA_FOX 5 месяцев назад +3

      Something that wasn't mentioned that I think is also worth noting is the time it took for Katara to learn how to bloodbend vs Amon. From the flashback, it's said that it took Among awhile to learn how to bloodbend. While he undoubtedly became immensely powerful with it, Katara learned the skill enough to overpower Hama in a matter of minutes. And then was able to continue to do so. Katara was also bloodbending humans right out the gate, while Amon and all other bloodbenders (hard to say for Yakone, but for at least 3 of the 5) had to start on animals and work their way up to humans, which took years. While the Yakone bloodline is at a much higher skillset for bloodbending than the other bloodbenders, Katara was able to learn the skill faster than anyone. Just some food for thought that I haven't seen anyone mention about Katara's bloodbending skills.

Which means that if she saw that Aang was in trouble and couldn't get out of it, she would come charging in with a tsunami at her back n call. It is not fair to compare Katara with Amon without knowing how much Katara would have grown since then. Also it is very inaccurate to say she needs full moon to bloodbend when she and zuko were on the hunt to find than that killed her mother in her rage and ange she blood bended of the the firelord captains in BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!.. therefore she had a lot of potential to bloodbend however she choose not to. She would have grown/matured a lot since then by the time Amon was around.

    • @AntoineBandele
      @AntoineBandele  5 месяцев назад +1

    I don't get how Katara's training/mastery is unrealistic when Yakone bloodbent 60 people without a full moon and with no movement. That doesn't feel like it belongs in the avatar universe, seems too superpower-ish rather than martial arts that bending is supposed to be rooted in. Even when Bumi earthbended when locked up he still moved his head and it wasn't some big bending but rather him bending rocks to break the cage.
    Also the excuse of strong bloodbending genes doesn't make sense. He looks the same age as Toph/Aang/Sokka. Hama was the creator, Katara was her first student and Katara never taught it to anyone. So where is this bloodbending generation coming from? He's too old enough for there to be generations of bloodbending and there's no way for him to be descended from one unless he's secretly descended from Katara

    • @AntoineBandele

      Because Katara becomes a master in the space of a few months. Yakone mastered his form over bloodbending over the course of his life. And his sons didn't master it for several years. That's why.

    @pandahead2241 7 месяцев назад +5

    I think their are a few factors that weren’t discussed in your video. First of all, something that everyone can agree on, Amon and Katara were both forced to learn blood bending. Katara had no intention of wanting to learn it, however, and if I remember right, Amon didn’t want to either, which was why he ran away. Continuing on, Katara had to learn waterbending faster than any other waterbender and she also tried to teach herself as a child. Her bending is also charged by her emotions, which is how she’s able to free Aang from the iceberg. It may seem as though she’s a gifted protegy by the time they reach the North Pole, but really she’s been practicing the entire journey, whether to help other’s or to fight Zuko. So after some real training it would seem only natural that she would be a literal force of nature. And I say that about Toph and team avatar Zuko too because they all had challenges to overcome in different forms. Anyways, by the time book 3 came around, and Katara defeated the puppet master, I always believed she had a little help, and no, I don’t mean Aang or Sokka. To recap real quick, Hama used the two of them to make Katara bloodbend. However, when Katara originally breaks out of Hama’s bloodbending, I remember her and saying something along the lines of “You aren’t the only one who draws power from the moon.” Which leads me to believe that bloodbending in general is useless against Katara because Yue, who gave her life up to save the moon spirit, gave her the power to be immune to bloodbending. Katara’s character as a whole is rather willful, so even though it seems a little over powered, I never considered it much of a stretch that Yue would give her that kind of power. I also noticed that she wasn’t in that courtroom when everyone else was bloodbended, including Aang. I believe if Katara (age 17 as you said) thought someone was in danger from Amon, then she would be able to find the strength to fight them with blood bending, leaving him blind sighted. If my theory about Yue helping her with some kind of hidden gift is accurate, then Amon could try bloodbending back and nothing would happen. Then it would depend on pure waterbending skill. Just my thoughts though. Sorry this got so long! Have a nice day!

    I will say for the most I agree the big things that I think should have been covered is that Yue personally knows her and has been shown to help the group before such as when Aang runs of in season 3 and potentially in the swamp. Not only that but also katara was not necessarily taught blood bending she unlocked it on her own and on her first showing over powered a master in it. While I definitely think Katara would struggle to win I don’t think it’s a one sided stomp for Amon t. As katara is the fast improving bender in the whole series. And was able to teach Aang mere weeks after learning herself. And I think a fire bender being able to land a hit under his hood speaks volumes for a character already aware of how to break a blood bending grips in the narrative. Unless you consider both times his hold gets broke that episode complete deus ex machina.

      Bloodbending = something very wicked only a cold blooded, careless and ruthless (at the very least, an anti hero) would do. Its not so Katara like to just bloodbend here and there, and be proud of it. You need to rewatch a show

    • @Eh.........
      @Eh......... 8 месяцев назад +2

      it only makes sense she would put a stop to bloodbending altogether, knowing how one can control the other, and additionally causing them pain in the locked state, that it makes so much sense for it to be outlawed. I don't see any shame Katara denying this power, because again, thats not who she is, why would she embrace a quite literally an evil power? You definitely need to rewatch a show, perhaps 2 times. I've read your messages about medical situations, well guess what, we have had 3 bloodbenders in Korra, and what did they do? yeah people wouldn't fall in line to train their bloodbending for medicine. Society is society. And even then, bloodbending should have been allowed only exclusive to doctors and people providing first aid, but it didn't

    • @adamwolf9419
      @adamwolf9419 8 месяцев назад

      @@Eh......... I’m not saying she didn’t make the right choice in outlawing bloodbending. She definitely did considering the actions of every other bloodbender in the franchise. I am simply saying I think she could have reached the Yakone/Amon level had she chosen to embrace bloodbending. I definitely agree with you that it’s very unlikely she ever would make said choice, though I don’t think it’s completely out of the question if she were given the proper motivation.
      Additionally, when I said it was a shame I more meant that I think it is a shame that the potential positive benefits of bloodbending weren’t explored either by her or another person assuming other factors like a non-selfish bloodbender and societal acceptance could be met. Maybe Katara could have been that non-selfish bloodbender, but of course like we both agree it really isn’t in her character to embrace such an ability. The idea overall is based more on the grounds of me wanting to see the extents to which things like bending and in-universe technologies can be utilized rather than making sense in regards to character morals. In our own world, some of humanity’s greatest innovations have come from unexpected sources, and that same idea can be applied to the Avatar universe.

    I think this matchup relies heavily on one’s interpretation of what strengthens or weakens blood bending as a whole. While raw talent is certainly a factor, I think psychology is the key.
    I don’t think Aang was at all lacking in raw power for water bending, with which to break a blood bending grip. I think blood bending can only be learned or practiced as a trauma response.
    Hama and Katara both only used blood bending when in all-consuming rage, pain, and/or fear. Amon too honed his craft under the trauma of his father’s abuse. His brother had trauma like that too, but to a lesser degree, as Amon willfully shielded him.
    I suspect that blood bending only works when a water bender is so afraid that they think only of torturing their opponent. Like an Unforgivable Curse in Harry Potter, “You’ve got to mean it.”
    The full moon is functionally irrelevant. If you’re able to blood-bend with a full moon, I think you could do so without a full moon. Yakone was just the first water bender crazy enough to try it.
    This is why Aang could not break Yakone’s grip, and why elder Katara, as a world renowned healer, could not reverse Amon’s chi-blocking.
    Aang held fast to his air bending ethics no matter what, and using such “dark magic” is antithetical to everything a healer stands for. I do agree that Amon has greater blood bending powers than Katara but, “Only because too noble to use them.”

    Casting lightning and lightning redirection are two separate skills just like bloodbending and bloodbending resistance. Amon is stronger when it comes to casting bloodbending but not better than Katara when it comes to resisting the bloodbending. This is something people have not thought of before. Yes, Amon is better at bloodbending but that does not mean that he has stronger resisting skills than Katara. So no, Amon would not win, Katara would instead. PS: Only the gift from the lion turtle given to Aang allowed him to take or restore someone's bending. Amon blocked the chi he didn't take the bending away. There is a huge difference.

    If you pitted Amon against a prime Katara, Katara violates him. Straight up, no doubt, demolishes his ass. The Yakone bloodline has a genetic trait that I believe simply works to raise their base power levels to insane heights. It has nothing to do with blood bending, inherently. That being said it makes blood bending without a full moon and even during the day much more possible. I believe that 17 yr old Katara loses to end of season 1 Amon. That being said, she is a child prodigy with immense potential. Take prime Katara, say early 30's. Close to peak physical condition (as in her age) and with another about 15 years of training. At this point she would be a more powerful base water bender than Amon. Hes got the genetics, but minimal "normal" (as in water and ice) waterbending training. Like I said, shes a child prodigy. This meaning she has both the genetics (although they may be slightly less powerful genetics than Amon) AND the training that Amon lacks. So base water bending, she wins. This means she wins overall. Period. End of story. If she is the more powerful base bender than she could break his hold with ease and beat him with little effort. All in all I agree that 17 yr old Katara vs end of season one Amon results in Katara's loss, but looking at both of their primes, Amon is done for. Trashed. Made into a pincushion, perhaps litteraly. Love the video and the artwork, cant wait to see more of the versus series!

    • @AntoineBandele
      @AntoineBandele  8 месяцев назад +6

The family line are simply more powerful raw waterbenders (again, remember that bloodbending is waterbending, it’s not some entirely new form of bending, which is explained in the video).
      Based on your comment, I’m not sure if you’ve gone through the whole video yet. All of your points were countered. Amon is the more powerful base waterbender, as well as Yakone and even Tarrlok.

      @@AntoineBandele I did watch the whole video lol and I suppose alot of my points are countered because I believe that Katara could be a more powerful bender once she is older. I may be entirely wrong and debated it for a while before writing my original comment. While Amon is powerful, I believe that Katara has the potential to outmatch him. I'm probably biased as Amon is one of my least favorite characters and I think I exaggerated my belief that Katara could win. It all hinders on whether or not someone believes Katara could be more powerful but you're right the pro-Katara side def relies on plot armour. If fact I'm now debating whether or not Amon's genetics trump Katara's potential and it's making my brain hurt 🤣

Katara gets easily smashed beyond reason. And we sadly don't see him water bend even once except that tornado thing but you can imagine he's an extremely accomplished bender without blood just due to his upbringing and how much relentless training he's done. Great video, but I think there are a few in universe key points to consider when making the assumption that more blood bending is an example of being a more powerful water bender. The first example would be korra and her fights against unalaq. Korra with no avatar state and no air bending was able to soundly beat tarlok, and he’s feats outside of that are not very impressive. On the other hand unalaq has many enhanced and unehanced feats that show him to be a comparable water bender to korra in base and avatar state enhanced(with past lives boost), or stronger than her if you think his win against her was fair. I think it’d be safe to say that unalaq in a no blood bending fight would dust unalaq. So if that’s the case, why did he never blood bend anyone? Or if korra was more powerful with all the elements but just not water bending, how was she blood bent by tarlock. Granted, this example is fuzzy but I have a few others especially related to blood bending an avatar. First thing tho is that is it really grant yakkone such a crazy feat when most of the people in that court room weren’t even water benders? Same with tarlok and yakkone. These people like Sokka or the rats in the atla had no defense against the teqnique. So we can only look at it’s use against aang and korra. So aang was shown being controlled by yakkone, ok so makes sense he could be a stronger bender. But when he goes avatar state it stops working. This tells us two possible things. Keep in mind aang and no avatars no how to blood bend that we know of. One is that power alone is enough to break the hold. Aang can’t blood bend, so this needs to be the case to make sense. This is supported by how katana broke out the hold before she knew how to blood bend, implying that she was more powerful BEFORE the moon as well, AND deep knowledge of the teqnique is not required to break it. (This also makes us wonder how she got controlled in the first place) second is that it’s possible that korra could likely break out the hold in the avatar state and a bender with comparable water bending strength could also even if they weren’t bloodbenders themselves. Another possibility is that WATER BENDING ISNT EVEN REQUIRED TO BREAK IT? Which doesn’t make sense but is consistent with aang feat lol and korras at the end of book 1.

    • @jforgotten2620
      @jforgotten2620 7 месяцев назад

      So last thing would be how this all translates to this fight, well like we saw in atla, power increase like a full moon are actually enough to teach someone a teqnique they don’t know. That’s how katara learned blood bending without practicing it. The argument could be made that she needed only to know of it to learn it, but if that’s the case that ties back to my other argument about how unalaq could have used it, or he’ll why not ming wa? Ming wa could have easily learned the technique being one of the most powerful water benders. I think all there’s weird contradictions can be explained by the fact that water bending and blood bending are STATED to be relational, but are SHOWN to be separate. Blood bending is treated as a skill that needs to be honed, but can be overcome by someone who is just a more powerful water bender. So the fight is more dependent on whether or not katara is generally a more powerful water bender. And in this case, Amon doesn’t have enough water bending alone feats to put him above katara. So to re iterate everything, because aang without knowing how to blood bend broke out of yakkones grip because of the avatar state boost, and katara not know how to blood bend was able to break the grip without l owing how to use the teqnique yet (looking suprised when she did it towards the end to stop Hama) it’s safe to say that power in water bending has been the main factor in those able to break the grip, not blood bending skill. And katara has been shown with more impressive water bending feats than Amon.

    • @jforgotten2620
      @jforgotten2620 7 месяцев назад

      One last thing is the comparison of mental bending to blood bending. It’s actually not true that metal bending corresponds to powerful earth bending. Bumi, couldn’t metal bend, and aang even in the avatar state could not, korra was the first. Goog learned to metal bend though her connection with the element, not through pure power. This is why bolin, despite being more powerful then most of the police force in republic city, couldn’t metal bend. I think both are more similar to flight, a skill that requires more mental and spiritual understanding than pure bending power.
