Zuko having swords might be a sqrewy with it cause we never see Zuko going all out essentially.
Antoine Bandele I’ve been getting back into Avatar and I recently discovered your channel, you put out amazing content, and I enjoy these versus videos. For a future versus video could you share your take on Azula versus Ming Hua. I would love too see how Azula would match versus an agile and precision based fighter like Ming Hua who’s also incredibly talented with water bending. I know that Azula has lightning and that’s Ming Hua’s biggest weakest, but like Ming Hua is sooooo fast and tends to get up in people’s faces, and if the battle field was set in a open area as oppose to a cave like when she fought mako, it will much easier for her evade incoming lightning blast because she’s incredibly agile and swift, she also a master at those water tendrils so if she managed to catch Azula, like what katana did in the crystal catacombs it might be gg, but if Azula manages to catch her off guard then it’s a rip, so idk lol. Would be a cool versus battle two agility/precision based fighters who are incredibly talented with their bendings going at it.
What do you think is a stronger fight style between the more martial art bending in the Last Airbender or the boxing bending in the Legend of Korra?
What did the red lotus do too? Did they use martial art or boxing styles?

The bending in the shows are martial arts, inspired by actual Kung fu. The creators chose different kinds or Kung fu to make the show. And I forgot what they were called but if I were you I would google what Kung fu types are the bending styles :3

You forgot that awesome scene in "The Earth King" where Katara jumped from the thin ice ramp, and spun around while bending a stream of water with her leg, taking down a large group of royal guards.
That’s a non-physical feat and was highlighted in the video as her being mobile WITH waterbending, but not without.

-Honestly yes she used water to launch herself up but she was still skilled enough to clear that jump effortlessly.
-She dodged ty lee's point blank range attacks
-she dodged comit amped lightning from azula 3 times and reacted and blocked some other attacks
-She's always able to react and counter she just can't fight back with the same level of martial arts
Overall I agree zuko is def better close quarters but her evasive skills are extremely underrated. She might not be able to combat him head on in a fist fight but she can dodge his attacks long enough to recover and create some distance to counter.

Hey one thing I didn't like...
You showed season 1 & 2 feats of Katara losing before she was a beast in season 3 and you didn't specify that this wouldn't happen to current Katara.
Yet when you did the same for zuko, you made sure to say " zuko has progressed significantly from these feats"

Actually, Pokémon is more complex than that. A fire type can easily wreck a water type if he has a good move, or/and ability, or stats to do so. For example M-Charizard Y (which has drought) will completely wreck most offensive water types pokémon with solar beam.

Eh no, alas this was breifly described in the vid but Katara is able to waterbending with her legs, and the octopus form would seriosly hinder ty lees assault on Katara, Zuko has less defensive measures against this but hes also got a big advantage
@@avatarmufasa3628 It would really depend on the environment. In a completely open battlefield Ty Lee would not have as much of a manuverability advantage, but with any sort of varied terrain she could jump off of and dodge around it would be incredibly hard to hit her with anything. Bear in mind we never see her get bested in a straight up fight in the entire series (though I'm not sure if something crazy happens in one of the comics), the only times she's ever incapacitated are through keeping her at bay by bending the mud she was already swimming in, sneaking up on her and encasing her hands and feet in stone, and Appa blasting her with a gust of air. Also, it's not like chi blocking only works on the arms, and aside from the funny instance with Sokka where she blocked each limb as he threw it at her she always completely immobilizes her target. Plus she really seems to be the most skilled chi blocker in the series, often managing to incapacitate enemies with very few moves, like the time she got Sokka and Toph with just three blows from one hand on each of them, and even at the party on Ember Island where she blocked 5 guys with just a single blow each, and she had her eyes closed at the time (granted that wasn't really a fight, but still it took skill).
Nah. Katara is aware of ty-lee's chi blocking skills. Ty-lee had to surprise katara 2 times to block her chi. Also katara could always resort to bloodbending.

And you said if zuko and Katara didn’t use their bending, zuko has hand to hand combat skills too, as well as skills with the dual broad swords. In fact, in the lost adventures comics, zuko and Sokka had a friendly sword duel, and zuko bested Sokka in 3 rounds

I kinda want Zuko to win, but I feel like Katara's going to be the victor. It really depends on timing and location. Katara basically wins if it's a full moon, and she has an advantage at night. Her resourcefulness in drawing water from unexpected areas can also possibly catch Zuko off-guard, similar to what she did to Azula during the finale. Zuko's bending is more powerful during the day, but his only chance at winning for certain is probably closing distance with Katara and engaging her in close combat, as Katara hasn't demonstrated the same proficiency in non-bender martial arts as Zuko. Definitely interesting to see what the verdict will be for this one and how much of an advantage the victor has.

oof idk about this one, since both of them have weaknesses, katara strains herself from killing while zuko dont, but zuko is a good guy now so he also strains himself from killing katara, if katara doesnt have water shes done, if zuko is very tired and doesnt have a lot of energy in him his done, if they both are well and healthy and fresh, and katara has water and zuko can fire bend idk who will win since it all depent on what time of day it is, if its sun shine zuko would win, if its moon time katara would win, haha so funny,

@@luiscruz3261 Not sure why you think the reasoning based around Azula was flawed. Her mentality was taken into account with every feat pressed against her.
Though it doesn't help her much, I always thought Katara's moves during the fire nation dance were impressive.
But Katara is extremely creative (like Aang) with water during combat...but sometimes can be stubborn, like always using the same technique.
When was she being creative in the show, i watched it years ago
wdym... she never uses the same technique twice, literally every episode she comes through with different bending. the only technique she’s done multiple times is the waterarms which is understandable since she created it herself.

When it comes to Zuko's worst showings for strategy, I think he outgrew those kind of mistakes/falling due to his pride.

I sorta feel like we never quite got to see enough feats from Wing and Wei in direct combat to get a solid sense of their skill level, at least not like we did for Desna and Eska. In a certain sense it's sort of like comparing Ty Lee and Mai to The Boulder and The Hippo, on the one hand you have full-on secondary antagonists that are clearly displayed to be very skilled and aside from maybe one circumstance never really get outright defeated. And on the other you have a pair of minor characters that while not unskilled are mostly shown to partake in sports, games, and/or entertainment, and even when they do seriously fight get clearly overshadowed by other more powerful combatants, like Toph in the first series, and Lin and Suyin in the second (and also Toph again).

Since Zuko is a late bloomer he has become one of the most underrated characters in terms of power. But lets not forget that after training with the dragons he closed the power gap between him and Azula, to the point that both were evenly matched during their fight in the beginning of the “Southern Raiders” episode.
I just saw Avatar: The Last Airbender picked up behind CBS All Access. This show is still drawing in people. The fans need a part III.

No, katara has more sub bending abilities and can steam bend (so if Zuko’s firebending comes in contact with Katara’s water, it will turn into steam and she could just freeze him) also in the video Antoine thinks that katara would win

Actually Zuko happens to be very strong. In the beach episode he breaks a table in half with a single blow and he also pushes a guy across the room with a hand movement. This is all without fire bending
REALLY feel like Zuko could win here considering he is military raised and battled far more than katara has. He also has her beat in raw strength as well. But idk, if katara uses blood bending it’s over. Guess we’ll see!

Trent Chang pretty sure there’s a full moon in that episode. I mean she didn’t use it against the guy who was actually responsible for her mothers death so I’d assume she couldn’t. Plus, with how disgusted she was with the ability I doubt she’d use it unless super mad which she wouldn’t be

I’m gonna root for Zuko early on because he’s just a monster in comparison to Katara. Katara may have him in terms of bending ability, but in terms of physical stats and his tactics, Zuko takes it. I’m gonna edit once the match is over…
Edit: I can understand how Antoine put Katara slightly above Zuko, but a 6/10 win is pretty damn close. Katara has been seen going for quick ends to fights (Ex. her fight with Azula in the crystal catacombs), whereas Zuko normally plays the long game while slowly chipping at his opponents defenses (Ex. his fights with Azula in book 3). But we did agree that Zuko’s physical and mental stats outclassed Katara and Katara has a SLIGHT advantage in bending ability.

@@relyk9157 She clearly isn't. Waterbending is simply that much more versatile. Comparing their feats in the comics and around the end of the series, they are pretty much esual in skill at least (which is still below mentally stable Azula)

I don't think Katara is a prodigy. I think she learns quickly because she has to. Also the creators have even said that they only showed clips of their training. Its implied that they train a lot off screen. I would say the only prodigies in the show are Azula and Toph. Aang doesn't count in my opinion because he is the avatar.
I think Katara's rapid ascension is the point - she's both hardworking and a prodigy and she was finally given a chance, so she easily surpassed Aang's waterbending.
Throughout the series, even Zuko was shocked at Katara's bending. Also, for ty Lee, she can easily surrounds herself with a waterwall or bubble, then attack her. Just imagine if Katara was ruthless, she would have ended Zuko and many others.
If we were being true katara would win cause of blood bending but i dont think put water around herself especially dealing with fire bending that can evaporate water putting a bubble around her would just boil her

@@amosdraak3536 If we're talking about Katara who will do anything to become more powerful, yes. She could have mastered Blood bending faster than Amon and his brother if she wanted. Even Amon was immensely strong with Blood bending and I believe he could have defeated Ozai very easily. The same thing can be said about Katara winning. However, the Katara in the series is very humble and compassionate, I believe wouldn't have win against Ozai.
Marcus Moralie its impossible to say that Katara would develop blood bending to the level Amon’s family did. It is said that their family was unnaturally powerful with blood bending.
@@MrStefanops Well throughout the show we are always told how naturally gifted Katara is with waterbending. And katara learned how to both block bloodbending and bloodbend, herself, in only one try.

I'm not so sure about Katara being able to "just turn it back into water" in that scenario. We've seen in the series when powerful fire blasts and large water attacks clash the water can be vaporized basically entirely, not merely turned into steam or fog that Katara definitely would be able to just manipulate. And when we've seen water drawn from the air or plants it is relatively small amounts, useful for precision work, but not really enough to contend with intense flames. Though even with just a smaller stream of water Zuko would still need to drag the fight out for quite a while to be able to deplete the useable water enough to make a notable difference.

@@alearnedman Before, the reason she didn't turn the water back is that she didn't need to. There was always another source of water. Also, water doesn't just disappear and get disintegrated. It Remains in the air and Katara can pull it out even if it's not physical steam the air is filled with this new water vapor.

Indeed, environment plays a large part in this contest. Kataras advantage in the south pole would be absolutely dominating. And likewise place them fighting on an active volcano and Zuko goes berserk mode
Yeah this is situational. Neutral environment, I'd give it to Zuko for his physical abilities, but it can go either way. North/South Pole or a full moon, I'd give it to Katara. Broad daylight or a desert/volcano, Zuko obviously wins.
Water is useful, but it's extremely situational. I think Zuko's greatest strength is that he has strength everywhere. He snaps chains with axe kicks. Even without weapons he's dangerous. Give him Twinblades and he beats Dai Li agents. Give him bending and he beats Aang without the Avatar State (twice), Katara, Azula, and that random hammer wielding earthbender who overstepped on his tax demands.

I'd say you do slightly underestimate Zuko's mobility, and ability to get into Katara's guard. Mainly via the way of the Fire Jets, which while yes they were not done in combat, if Katara uses her water sled to reposition, that creates a prime opening for Zuko to do the fire jets unabated, or using an attack to force her to shield and very quickly dashing closer . While Zuko isnt as physically mobile as Ty Lee, outside of bending assisted Aang his showings as the Blue Spirit would put him as a person within the same tier of movement ( not the same directly, but above everyone else, especially when Fire Jets are added).
Also Lets not point out how fast Zuko is in CQC to be able to turn around and block and arrow that was already fired at him.
Also While Katara's scale is a bit higher, that was on the open ocean with no one really pressuring her and giving her time to build up. Zuko showed to be capable of shattering crystals with very little build up time, underground so also without a Sun adv there.
I really think you didnt point out how ridiculously more tenacious and capable of taking a beating that Zuko is. Katara got back up from taking a sizable rock in a spar with Toph ( so not serious) and being knocked into a wall incapacitated her for a few moments, even with the Crystal showing, she is down for several seconds, while Zuko shattered those same Crystals with just his bending . Zuko flat out took a strong earth attack into his chest with the earth-bender clearly not holding back ( so while he is defiantly below Toph, it is fair to note that I doubt Toph was trying to put Katara 6 feet under in a spar), and spun back up, more pissed off than anything. Let alone that he survived being hit by Azula's lighting without redirection.
Honestly, I actually dont see this ending in a big attack. Katara doesnt have enough water to really put Zuko down in one attack, unless the attack is just a distraction to cover the field in water and just freeze him. Zuko is fairly mobile, so even hitting him will be a problem for Katara, let alone with Zuko's durability and stamina, making those hits really stick. While Zuko has shown that he only needs a few good hits to knock Katara out of the fight. While Katara can block for quite a while, she doesnt have the stamina to keep up with Zuko for the entire fight.
I do agree that Katara wins in the early fight, but I dont believe with this setting she has enough power to put Zuko down in the mid fight, if she is even able to hit him in the first place.
He can only use facts that are shown the jets have never been used in combat everything mentioned about katara is solid except for her technicality Bc she is very emotional fighter so she’s probably be a little sloppy if she had to fight someone she’s so close with
Theres a lot of statements here where youve given zuko the advantage for having the opportunity to experience a serious fight with Toph. This makes it harder to assess whether Katara could or could not tak the hits.

Zuko deflected most of this, he didnt just take the hit. So no it is not without redirection.

I dont recall losing due to lack of stamina, but Antoine did make this exact argument in the vid, hence the 1-0 victory in the late fight.

Yes, but since the direct comparison and Katara being hit by Toph was brought up, so a comparison is directly apt. Katara when down after being hit by the pillar, and was incapacitated briefly when she hit the Crystals in BasingSe, barely cracking them. Zuko shattered those Crystals in one hit.
The comic frame where Azula redirects the lightning back to him, is the lightning strike I was talking about, not the Sozins comet lightning.
Yes Azula was incapacitated briefly in the second season, but got back up to fight. Also her fortitude has never really been shown, as she doesn't get hit very much. And in the Sozins one, she was frozen solid and then shackled. I assumed that Katara didn't have shackles in this fight, also she caught Azula off guard with the grated water, which isn't as Likely with the very visible stream. Yes she kept up up close briefly and that is impressive, but the sneak attack would be an early fight, where yeah Katara wins. I just believe because the water isnt as much of a sneak attack here, that is a lot less likely. I also assumed that this fight ends with one unconscious/ accidental death, which may be different than what the fight itself ends under, as incapacitation wouldn't be enough.

I do agree that Zuko is in terms of physical ability stronger than Katara, but I would give her a little more credit with dexterity and balance. I would say she showcases that in the season three episode “the headband” quite well with her dance skills. People often put off dancing but it actually requires a lot of physical ability and we even see her doing difficult jumps and other similar stuff.

He's not forgetting. He's purposefully leaving it out to please the drooling virgin fanbase. Zuko would demolish Katara. He's trained for far longer and with far better, is Ty Lee/Aang level agile, as dangerous as the best non benders in CQC with his Twinblades, and was beating Katara in the Crossroads of Destiny during midnight, after which he only got stronger while all Katara learned was bloodbending.
During a full moon, Katara wins (though if Mako broke through the grip of a stronger bloodbender, who's to say Zuko can't do it?) Any other time of day or even night, Zuko wins. Daylight, he wins with ease. Nighttime it's a back and forth slugfest where his stamina and durability get him the win.
Edit: Let's also not forget that this is what the show itself implied. We see this in Book 1. Spirit Water, the Moon Spirit, the full moon, and even then Katara could barely defeat an injured and undercooled Zuko who had been exploded by pirates a day before. The moment the sun came out, he one shot her. What on earth makes people think Katara even has a chance?

He's trained to be a swordman and also knows from his uncle how water benders fight. He's learned the true value of firebending from the source. For me I think katara could hit him with some stuff but he knows how to take the damage from the attack. I also think that if he learned lightning bending that this fight would be over quickly. Zuko was always made to look weaker in order for other people to shine with their bending skills

I’m so glad you made another versus series, you have by far the best vs series on RUclips for Star Wars Harry Potter and my personal favorite avatar. Keeps the good content flowing.
I personally think you’re selling Zuko’s defense a little short. I will agree that he doesn’t have the scale of Katara. But he was still able to handle the scale of Azula. Yes both were under Sozin’s Comet when that happened, but his fire bending defense was really only shattered against Combistion Man. And he’s kinda weird because his attacks are both precision and scale combined. His ability to redirect Ozai’s lightning I think can also speak to his defensive ability.
What I’m saying is I think Zuko has at least a better chance of reaching the late fight than you give him credit for.
At the very least I think Katara is closer to a 5.5/10 than a 6.
I do think Zuko is more tactful during combat...for example, adapting and switching up his technique, and creating new ones.
I'm sorry but Katara with her water bending fully mastered has Zuko beat.

I see Zuko winning with his sword play that feared his father because he does not always depend on using flames
In this hypothetical scenario I feel like Zuko wouldn't use his swords for the same reason Katara wouldn't use Bloodbending (if the opportunity even presented itself) neither would actually want to kill their opponent.
what about when katara fought Hama? She was flipping around, same with the dancing scene with Aang.
That's a thing, I do think Katara's agility is a bit undersold in the video, but even then I don't think she quite matches up to Zuko since he's been training for longer and in straight up martial arts and swordplay, not just bending.

I understand the logic behind Katara winning but I think the point about her being able to attack on a more grand scale than Zuko is extremely location dependent. Could she really do those kinds of attack when she has a small village stream at her disposal like in the video?
I think the outcome of the fight varies so greatly on location (proximity to water) and time of day that I have to give a slight edge to Zuko. No matter how much water or plants are around he can still firebend at the same level. There's no doubt Katara beats him if she has access to more resources, but I think given Zuko's consistency no matter the location it gives him the edge.
I totally agree Katara would need to have water at her disposal meanwhile Zuko can just make fire appear out of the palm of his hand.
Zuko beats katara in most fights because of how situational she is,she could only win on full moons with blood bending or next to an entire river/ocean
I hear a little bit about what you’re saying but I’d have to disagree, we’ve seen Katara do incredible feats with very little water available, such as at the western air temple she used water from a fountain to create a huge wave then transform them to ice shards, we’ve also seen how capable she was during the invasion with just small amounts of water in her water skins. Another thing to note is ability to use plant bending or water from plants, even is the stream began to run dry there were still trees and grasses around she could utilize, the ability that she has with water bending is also overpowered in my opinion as she can use it in three forms; liquids, solids, and gasses. Waterbending is the only form to be able to do this and increases its versatility and usages. Such as being able to bend the steam from an encounter with fire and water, transforming them to a solid ice shard and using the residual steam to create a water attack. All around I do believe she’d have the advantage over Zuko
These battles are placed in areas where each bender has an advantage. In most places without water zuko would win but if the battle is fair then Katara wins no matter what.
Liam Westin I see where you are coming from and I agree, Katara is very resourceful but what happens if they fight in a place with no trees, plants or living things? Like underground or in a desert? Then Katara would be in major trouble. She could use her sweat but that is not going to do much and she could also just pull water out of thin air just like what Hama did but she hasn't learn that move yet so she would be completely defenseless.
frankly, I sort of think they're even enough in power and creativity that it's hard to tell? It deadass might come down to chance who won a specific fight

Agree. As much as I love Zuko, and Katara clearly advances too quickly, I think by the end no doubt she'd win. He grows a lot as a person and somewhat as a bender, but it's always implied he's not the best at it. Like, he's no prodigy, he just works hard at it (not that the other benders don't work hard... it's just, they're also prodigies) haha great vid

@@troy7835 no, its the opposite. if the fight is neutral (where k has a limited amount of water) or zukos at an advantage (where k has no water) then zuko wins. katara only wins if she has the advantage (where she has a functionally unlimited amount of water).
unless when u say "neutral" u mean katara gets unlimited water since zuko can make an 'unlimited' amount of fire. but that wouldnt be neutral to me, that would be advantage katara. to me neutral means they both come to the fight with only what they can carry into a fight n the environment/location doesnt favor either one.
@TSR L3gend The amount of water in trees and flowers is extremely limited, and this limits Katara to offense and defense exclusively. She can't do with limited water what she did to him in the South Pole for instance, which is the only way she'd win.
The Crossroads of Destiny gave her a ton of water AND it was during nighttime, and she was still losing. Zuko only got better after this as well, whereas I'd argue we never saw a better Katara than we did that episode (she bested Azula in single combat there, something only Aang ever did while Azula was in a good state of mind).
Zuko's style is what beats her.

The fights during Crossroads of Destiny were always a bit weird to me. Somehow Katara is starting to get the upper hand against Azula, but then she fights Zuko (who was always inferior to Azula up to that point) for most of the rest of the episode and is pretty much in a stalemate against him. I suppose it could have something to do with Zuko facing Katara before that time and Azula never doing so, and perhaps never even fighting a waterbender one on one til that point.
When Zuko first fought Azula, she didn’t bend a single bit until the final strike. He was going all out at the time and he didn’t land a single attack. You seemed to gloss over that...
Because we are examining Comics Zuko, not Early Book 2 Zuko. What’s most relevant is his most recent fight with her in comics, not an early version of him in the show.

I feel like its an unfair advantage to begin with, becuase Katara seems to magically master waterbending in like a week of training at the north pole. I honestly despised how there seems to be too many prodigies in the avatar universe, whereas Zuko was more relatable because he always had to work for what he got. I think because Zuko is not a natural prodigy people tend to understimate him but he has proven to be a very effective fighter and bested Zhao. He was also basically on equal footing with Azula at the western airtemple, only difference was Azula got where she is because of raw talent whereas Zuko had to work for that. I honestly do think Zuko would actually beat Katara because of his resilience and determination. But a fight against him and Toph he'd definitely lose.

Love Zuko but was he ever confirmed to be a bender master ? He was still training at the start of the series and it did not seem like he got much better until he met the dragons (which was not training in fighting ) . So I think Katara would win here.
He was aang's master, trained with the dragons, and became firelord. I'd say we could give him master rank.
Logan Camp i think he became fire lord by birthright default . Iroh called admiral xiou (no clue how to spell his name) a master and zuko defeated him in agni Kai so i guessss zuko can be considered a master but of the lowest rank in my opinion
