    Noatak’s storyline with his brother is so tragic. The boat scene was so impactful and haunting. I didn’t interpret Noatak not knowing about his brother’s decision to blow up the boat though. He’s a blood bender so he can sense his movement. I thought his tears were more of acceptance over what his brother was about to do. Their souls needed to rest.

    You can say one thing for certain about Korra, there antagonists are complex, sympathetic people. Ozai fulfilled his purpose as a challenge to the empathetic and wise Aang. Whose character centers around seeing the good in others so someone of unadulterated evil would best confront his morals and his mentality.
    Korra is a woman whose proven to be very much naive and confrontationally decisive by the start. However it is those very antagonists who have reasonings and valid ethical points that challenge her the most. She has to drop her guard, and her pride, to better understand her role as a Uniter. She has to put herself in the shoes of others and learn even from extremists to better the world. Amon, Kuvira, Zaheer, and even Tarlok challenge her time and time again on her identity, her morality, and her fighting spirit. And that’s why I like the show. Thank you for reading.

      Gay Wolf Season 1 isn’t the best I’ll admit, and she is Mary Sue by that point. But the writers fix that problem in the season right after it and that flaw of the show was mostly because the creators were unaware of wether they would be receiving more seasons. So I partly agree but that’s an issue addressed and resolved right after the fact.
      Ex:She released spirits into the world and air-bending returned, however Zaheer got air-bending powers which allowed him to break out of prison and reform his group. So she most certainly faces consequences for her actions.

    Legend of Korra honestly has some of my favorite bad guys in tv show/ movie history. Each villain has good intentions but all went way to far. And it has made Korra grow as a character so much. Amon wanted equality, Unalaq wanted the spirits back, Zaheer wanted freedom, and Kuvira wanted the Earth kingdom united. The whole last Airbender series which I in my opinion think is superior to tlok, had you not even see ozai till the last season. They had indirect ways of showing him as evil. Like for example azula. Its made obvious she wants to please her father showing she is almost just like him. Even roku, talking about him and his friendship with sozin and sozin's goals. Put the idea they are now Ozai's goal. Finally when you see him its not as epic. You had inderect ways of knowing he was evil. Which was the intention. The story was the heros preparing for a fight vs someone they and we know little about, instead of a villain being fleshed out in the regular way. He is fleshed out, with character development. Especially in stories told from characters. Example being zuko's scar. This gives you a good idea early on what his father is like. You knew everything about him before you knew it.

His ambition seems to be for selfish reasons and we never find out why he is this way. Why is he more spiritual then his brother? Why is view on the spirits so personal? Why did he see to himself to ally with basically the avatar equivalent of the devil? None are actually explained. It comes off as telling but not showing anything. At least with Ozai we can see how fire nation culture had shaped him into the monster he became, we literally get nothing out of Unalaq or how different the north pole was under his rule. If you ask me, Amon is the perfect example of an anti-villain. And I really wished that the writers kept him around for the later seasons. I would have loved him become a "Enemy of my enemy" type character who sometimes helps team avatar just because.
    He was basically right when he said bending caused nothing but trouble.
    Korra's uncle, Zahir, and Kuvira all used their bending in some way to gain power or reign terror. Meanwhile Amon was using his bending to "equalize" everyone by taking away if not blocking people's bending for mostly good. I do think he believed in his cause and probably saw his own abilities as a "cursed" gift.

      @climbingamountain86 9 месяцев назад

      No, I think Amon at some point lost himself in the process and his original cause of "equality" because he used his bending to take people's bending away. That's a difficult thing to do, to believe bending is evil and use it throughout the years to take others' bending away, that ought to make Amon see himself as more powerful in the process. But even though Amon is my favourite, I think that Zaheer was the one who didn't want power because he was an anarchist. I believe Zaheer was misunderstood and that he didn't belong in this world and therefore he is seen as a villain (even though he later started becoming a villain, he eventually got humbled as well and continued his journey to absolute spirituality and freedom in his prison cell, which was a gain for him). Amon, or maybe Noatak, got humbled too. At the start he was battling with nature itself because people are born with bending so by taking it away and considering it evil, he had simply deluded himself and deceived non-benders. He sought anger and wrath in them and began stealing criminals' bending away to publically justify his theft. Deception and sowing anger were Amon's main tools for his revolution as he also used them for his made up story about the firebender killing his family. But later in the end, as Uncle Iroh had once said "True humility is the only antidote to shame", Noatak humbled himself after realising his entire work was lost, and he reunited with his original character traits and desires, which was to leave with his younger brother who he loved most and begin a new life. He got redeemed.

      I think Amon was the only realistic to achieve equality for non-benders. If he couldn't take away people's bending, his only other option would be to kill all benders, and their children.
      If Amon really was a non-bender, he would become a genocidal maniac like the Nazis.
      Amon is the lesser evil, he's the only way to get equality without murdering every bender in the world. I think he was right, but with him gone, there may never be true equality for non-benders without mass murder.
      I don't know about you, but Amon and Equalism might get me to write some fan fiction, because of how right he is.

    • @climbingamountain86
      @climbingamountain86 9 месяцев назад

      I think Amon was deluded and a deceiver.
      People are born with bending so by stealing it, Amon is battling with nature itself, and that pretty much makes him evil. At the beginning, when he was 14. I believe he truly wanted equality back then but now he's just using equality as an excuse. However, in the end he got humbled when Korra destroyed his revolution. Amon had dug a pit into his own downfall and when the truth was revealed, everything he had worked on fell because of himself. That also means he humbled himself and he reunited with lost character traits but that's just my own assumption. He saw himself for who he truly is, someone who's capable of losing (before it was revealed that he saw himself as someone more powerful when he said to Mako "Impressive. No one has gotten the better of me like that.") and that made his original self show when he wanted him and his brother to live a new life once again. He was redeemed in the end.
      Amon also means the demon of wrath in some language (demons are deceivers), which explains his major tools to maintain or start his revolution which were theft (stealing people's natural bending away), deception (deceive benders into thinking bending is evil when in fact it's not, because nature has managed to find balance with non-benders coexisting with benders which means everyone is already equal, and to deceive them about his actual identity) and sowing anger and wrath (make non-benders slowly believe that bending is evil by stating historical events of wars beginning with bending, publically justifying his theft by starting with taking the bending of criminal benders and slowly advancing to normal benders through sowing anger). This nickname, Amon, perfectly fits Noatak and no wonder why he had picked it as an alias.
      In my opinion, Zaheer was someone who was truly misunderstood, and he simply didn't fit in this world therefore he was seen as a villain (even though he started becoming a villain at some point, eventually when he was jailed he had the opportunity to continue his quest for true freedom and spirituality and that's a gain for him.)
      Amon is my favorite. He truly had a good start, and the core character traits that he has are fairness and humility which are what actually shaped him. He used to be humble and grounded when he was young, that's why he didn't let his father's compliments get to him, which is also what made him succeed in many areas. Personally, I don't believe his father shaped him because when he lost all his prideful work, he got humbled and reunited with his brother and his core character traits. However, Yakone had still shame in him, because only through shame somebody changes his whole identity even as to make plastic surgery. Which is also why Yakone's emotions of revenge resurfaced once again. When he started a family, they already existed but were simply buried. Noatak, however, only wanted to escape with his brother in the end, he had already won over the shame through humility. (Just like Uncle Iroh had once said "True humility is the only antidote to shame".) So Noatak got redeemed.

      @@piyushnagawat24 I think that is one of the reasons why I hated the first season. Sure there was a lot of damage but it wasnt Kuvira level of bad. And everyone got their bending back. And somehow Kuvira survives and the two men died. Noatak deserved a redemption with Tarrlok and could have even guarded the art of bloodbending for the greater good, something even Katara could not do. I feel like they died all for a cheap edgy shock factor.

  • @ethanvantil970
    @ethanvantil970 4 года назад +3

    I always saw that last scene differently, where Noatak is crying. Strong bender's can have a sense of their element, they can feel the presence of their element around them. And in the case of Noatak, a bloodbender, he could essentially track people's movements without seeing them just by feeling the movement of their body, using his bending abilities.
    So I always thought he knew he was about to die. But he also had no other options, no one else to turn to, as he told Tarrlok, so he somewhat accepted his fate. And that's why he was crying.

  • @christymitchell4763

    I personally c Amon/Noatak as a broken soul. Someone who was once innocent and kindhearted and didn’t want violence. But his father forced him down a dark path and, much like Darth Vader or Kylo Ren, he became corrupt. I’m not saying he’s in the right; but he’s definitely not evil like Ozai or even Yakone. That’s why it made me so sad when he and tarrlok both died.

    I think one of Legend of Korra's biggest mistakes was killing off Amon. He should have survived the boat explosion, while Tarlok still should have died. They could've done something really interesting with him now that he had lost everything. Especially with the idea now in his head that his brother was willing to end his own life to stop him.
    It would've been a great parallel to Korra, who had just been told the quote "When we are at our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change" by Aang.

    • @lizqu8033
      @lizqu8033 3 года назад +1

      There was actually a slightly morbid joke that the creators of LOK told each other that Amon had survived the explosion and now had to bend water in place of his missing arms. That was where they got the idea for Ming-Hua from.
