I love all the avatars, korra included. They're all very different with different journeys and different mistakes. Yangchen was probably the most enlightened of all the avatars, but seeing this and knowing she also struggled in her younger days makes her feel like the rest of the gang! Kiyoshi was lost, Korra was immature, Aang was young, and Kuruk was distracted. But they all eventually made their mark and were important to their respective generations. It makes me really sad to see any of them being hated on tbh :// the entire avatar series (atla, korra, comics, etc.) is amazing and I'll forever be in love with it and its characters
I find it cruelly ironic how the Air Nomads went from the only nation with all benders, to being reduced to the Air Acolytes who had no bending at all.
@@berfinyldz7867 Not quite. Korra was passionate, so much so that she made rash decisions because she wanted to be the avatar so badly and identified with it so much. Aang had reservations about his role as the avatar to the point that he took no pleasure in making decisions, let alone making rash ones, and that made him more level-headed than Korra.
Everyone stop hating on Kuruk. Yangchen, although she was an amazing avatar, she neglected her spiritual duties in certain ways. She made peace in the physical world but by doing this she caused a rift between the spirits and humans. (Some Humans broke promises to the spirits angering them). Because of this it left a large spiritual debt that had to be paid, so kuruk did. (Yangchen Also angered the spirits by siding with the humans on a lot of matters, such as lands and who owns them). He had to battle spirits at night, those spirits slowly killed him and drained him of his very essence. So he became a player and had parties because the spirits left him so empty and cold and so he needed a distraction. He is one of the most selfless avatars, he gave up his friends and his life, to fight evil spirits. His friends thought so bad of him since they thought he neglected his duties but really he fighting continuously to maintain peace - fulfilling his avatar duties. He told no one so that they did not suffer also, and that Yancheng legacy was not tarnished by her large mistakes. They were so large that it cost Kuruk his life to make amends - one dark spirit even caused Kyoshi some problems, Father Glow worm.(She was so loved by everyone that they asked her for blessings and protection, even when she died). He let his friends leave him and fall in love without him because he hated the thought of them suffering with him. So he did party and drink, because he would fight horrifying spirits that would eventually killed him, hence him dying at 30. He knew he was going to die young and miss out on life but he continued nonetheless. Please don’t say his life was easy and chill - in fact it was the very opposite. Also Yangchen is not to blame at all, all avatars make mistakes. She was one of the best - she is the reason for much peace. Kuruk is one of my favourite avatars because he let everyone think he was a terrible avatar so that Yangchen could remain a hero. I don’t know how y’all can call him lazy and be hating on him after all he did.
YES!!! GO OFF!! I dislike how a lot of people Kuruk shit on him because he was the ‘extremely laid-back and chill’ Avatar. He was not, and did a lot that he could during his time. He is and was a good Avatar, he did what he could. Kuruk’s a good guy at heart and did not deserve to die so young at the age of 33. 😭
I often pretend Korra didn't happen... I really hated this show So many things made me mad, like the fact that she didn't had an avatar journey or that air was hard to bend for her although she's a water bender and fire should have been the hardest. And this is just the first episode of the show.
I didn't hated LoK as a whole, but i hated the lack of continuity, complete lack of character development for other members of Team Avatar, the tons of inconsistencies and of course, this thing. Seriously, that's so freaking awful.

And the differences in how the world used to be back in time. How the Culture used to be? Has it maybe changed?
See, the breaking of the chain really offers two very interesting developments for a future series. Like it either has Korra and the next Avatar trying to go ahead with creating a new cycle, or it has the next Avatar trying to reestablish a connection to the past lives. I like the idea that the next Avatar is able to find a way to reconnect but in doing so, has to choose to either give up Korra for the former Avatar cycle, or give up the former cycle for Korra.

I am still sad that Firelord Sozin was so creedy that he destroyed the Air nomads. Imagine what would have happened if Air nomads would have come back in legend of Korra as Korra left the portals open. In my mind airbending can be as calm as breeze and when angered, it can be as raging as hurricane. It would have been cool to see Air nomads fighting against Kuvita and protecting people against her robots. They would have shown Tenzin and his team of airbenders how it really is done. And Tenzin's line would have been something like this "I though I knew everything about my father's cultire but it seems I know nothing at all. When used as weapon by skilled airbending master, the art of airbending itself can be as moving as water, as steady as earth and as raging as fire. It seems we have lot to learn." As I love Air nomads so much I may write a fanfic about how they are not cowards like they are portayed to be by other nations but rather deadly fighters in a way it would make Korra's generation to respect them.

@@ookack8580 I'm saying Kuruk didn't have to do anything as an Avatar as Yangchen (the Avatar before him) created peace that lasted 100yrs. The only thing Kuruk did was just chill around. He fell in love with a girl (which was rare as he just dated girls and then dumped them) he went into the spirit world with her and the face stealer stole her from him. He went back everyday on the day she was stolen and tried to get her back but he found out that if he killed the face stealer spirit it would also kill his love. He eventually died at the age of 33 (hasn't been revealed how) in one of the ATLA episodes he meets the spirit who tells Aang that one of his previous lives tried to kill him (referring to Kuruk)

@@commentingaccount1383 I don't think that they were ever just memories. In fact, I know they were something else. It isn't like each Avatar could remember the life of the last, it was always a conversation (literally and metaphorically). It wasn't that like, Aang could remember Roku, it was that Aang could connect to Roku's spirit. I guess this gets into spiritual beliefs and what that looks like in ATLA but it seems to me that it wasn't that the memories carried over each lifetime, it was that they could connect to their past selves' spirit. So like, their souls aren't gone forever, anymore than they were already. It's just like...Korra dropped her phone in the water and now all her contacts are gone and she didn't memorize their numbers lol.

Not to mention she bended three elements when she was like 4 and didn't go on her own avatar journey to learn all the elements and become spiritual she's just so physically violent and destroyed sacred air Nomad artifacts which you know are going extinct. Which is another thing, she's very violent and never thinks anything through, she thinks punching her way through everything is the way to solve her issues. Also right after ravva got destroyed & disconnected Korras spiritual connections with the past avatars was the most dumbest move I have ever seen the writers pull off. She has a loving parents (she's the first avatar we've seen with parents) grew up in a very loving household unlike the past avatars like Kyoshi, who was abandoned and Aang who lost his entire culture to genocide, who both have very tragic lives and she still complains about everything . Her relationship with Mako is super toxic it's like she doesn't respect anyone in a relationship even after she forcefully kissed him when he was in a relationship with Asami and later dates Asami it just shows how selfish Korra really is it's absolutely nothing like any of the past avatars. The LGBT bullshit they pulled at the end just to make it seem like the show is a masterpiece even those complete crap is super stupid. Kyoshi and Rangi had a far better established relationship (not to mention they had chemistry unlike Korrasami) than anything Korra and Asami had. Not really, in my opinion Kuruk may look lazy, but he had many problems fighting in the spirit world, so in secret he did he's best to maintain peace in physical world.
Yangchen was great for the humans, but ultimately a shit avatar as she upset the balance between the mortal world and the spirit world. She constantly chose the side of humans, leading to the spirits turning dark and resentful. Kuruk then had to deal with the spirits and kept it a secret out of respect for yangchen. In the end, Yangchen can be seen as somewhat responsible for the painful and short life of Kuruk and should be seen as an avatar that, while great for humans, failed to uphold her duties as the bridge between worlds.
@@namesaretuff he showed favoritism to his only air bending son. Not paid enough attention to the non gender a d water bender. Kinda bad parenting there.
I see a lot of people hating on Korra but I think she did pretty well. The world in Korra's generation was rapidly changing and the conflicts that she had to face we more than just good versus bad. The time she was in may seem peaceful but its just as dangerous as Aang's time.
Yea that’s kinda the point.... most of the world in avatar is inspired by Asia. The names, the architecture, and even the written alphabet are vaguely Asian
Yes, Yangchen was a good person. Air nomads are humble and appreciate every type of life. Her name was even brought in prayers for protection. But, was she the best Avatar? Every Avatar makes mistakes. Remember that there are thousands of Avatars that came before her. Avatar Szeto centered his duties on the Fire Nation only which brought his nation to prosperity while the others crumbled, Kuruk neglected his duties, Kyoshi let revenge blind her when she was 16 and later in life she created the Dai Li, Roku could've prevented the 100 year world war if it wasn't for him not wanting to kill his friend, Aang ran away at 11 and was a father with favoritism towards Tenzin, Korra was too careless. What Yangchen did wrong was that she *always* took side with the humans when spiritual matters arose. Remember, the Avatar is the bridge between the spirit world and physical world. That means that the Avatar has to make both of them happy and in peace between each other. When spirits came to her about humans taking their land she always took the side of the people and ordered them to relocate. That led to the spirits turning evil. After her passing, the world was at peace for decades to come. With the spirits turning evil, that gave Kuruk the task of killing them. It was a deathly task and it took all his life until he died very young. After his death, the world was a chaos. Not to mention, his 'successor' was spotted late. People thought the Avatar cycle had ended. Sadly, they thought Yun was the Avatar. They trained him with insanely routines until he proved himself to be better than Kuruk. Until it was revealed the Kyoshi was actually the Avatar. Kyoshi was Kyoshi. More people feared her than they respected her. That's because of her motto *“Only justice will bring peace.”* , which is true. She resorted to killing until it was absolutely necessary. That's the difference between her and the other Avatars, she DIDN'T hesitate to kill in order to bring peace. She was a girl that was abandoned by her parents. She was homeless and neglected by the village. She had a rough life. A life that ended when she was 230! However, I don't know what happened after her death.
Wow, fascinating stuff! I've never heard of this before. Where is all this information from? Yangchen is one of my favorite avatars; she's so interesting!

I really hated this show
So many things made me mad, like the fact that she didn't had an avatar journey or that air was hard to bend for her although she's a water bender and fire should have been the hardest.
And this is just the first episode of the show.
I didn't hated LoK as a whole, but i hated the lack of continuity, complete lack of character development for other members of Team Avatar, the tons of inconsistencies and of course, this thing. Seriously, that's so freaking awful.
That was such an abomination, the creators didn't know when to stop and had way too much freedom.
Them making something new that you didnt liked doesnt make you a traditionalist, it makes them a failure to not be able to respect everything they setted before, only because they could

I wouldve LOVED seeing a whole series about yangchen, kyoshi, or kuruk. Kuruk's story I think would have been REALLY interesting since he was so carefree and things went down badly for him in the end.
One book each avatar is super enough for me
Sirap I would love to see Kuruk’s only because of my infinite curiosity of Koh. Seriously, I get that he’s a spirit - but how do you fight the avatar (who was notably powerful *even as the avatar*) in their prime *multiple* times with a killing intent and live? Not only that, but I want to know how he steals faces.
It seems we have lot to learn."
As I love Air nomads so much I may write a fanfic about how they are not cowards like they are portayed to be by other nations but rather deadly fighters in a way it would make Korra's generation to respect them.
But the Airbenders came back in Legend of Korra

@@ookack8580 I'm saying Kuruk didn't have to do anything as an Avatar as Yangchen (the Avatar before him) created peace that lasted 100yrs. The only thing Kuruk did was just chill around. He went back everyday on the day she was stolen and tried to get her back but he found out that if he killed the face stealer spirit it would also kill his love. @@commentingaccount1383 they are not deleted from existence people still knew about Aang after he was gone. Their spirit is gone.
What's to say Korra couldn't recover her connection to her past lives? After harmonic convergences I think it could be possible if Korra explored different methods to recover the connection. That would be for a good story. A reconstituted avatar journey for the other avatars. Any theories?

Yangchen was so good that Kuruk didn't feel any problem
