Both houses & cars have become too expensive for most Americans these days, most especially for single people and/or single-income households. Even a lot of 2 income households can't afford them.
This issue has been exacerbated by the practices of insurance companies, which can have negative effects as well. Some insurance companies may contribute to rising prices by providing coverage that encourages risky lending and speculation. Additionally, certain insurance policies can be expensive, making it even more challenging for families to secure affordable properties. It's important for individuals tor consider diversifying their income streams, independent of government reliance, as a wise approach in the current situation.

Just insured a new one for £1200 with the NFU (Farmer, 52, Sussex) A bargain considering the price of the car. - as for reliability, offload once the warranty expires .
I've got a 2015 Autobiography with the 4.4 V8 diesel plus active body control. Only 54k miles thank goodness. But to drive it's so much better overall than other cars I've ever had, including Lexus and Jags. So worth the insurance and servicing costs. Reliability has been about the same as anything else. Cars are SO complicated and all are built down to a cost. My LS430 had more niggles than anything else I've owned.
Just renewed my 2011 L322 4.4tdv8. My current company LV quoted £1400. Twenty minutes on a comparison site and got it for £800. In Herts and 65 years old. It’s worth it. That is full business use as well.
LR really need to put their acts together and start seriously addressing the reliability issues of these cars. They have shamelessly been ignoring that for years. People are just sick of this unreliability issue.
We had an Evoque which spent more time in the dealership than on the road, then we had a Discovery Sport which had nothing wrong with it at all. They really are a roll of the dice.
It needed an new engine at 18k because the crankshaft ate itself. Hopefully your new engine has the new bearing/oil seal. I'm in the market for a 20k ish L494 myself. Just have to go into LR ownership with your eyes open and a contingency plan. I keep a couple of K aside for unexpected issues with my Disco each year. It's been rolling on for four years, so I'll put it to the next one.
I just got my mom this car she loves it. I already found a trusted specialist to take it to if a repair comes up. So far so good no engine issues. We had a discovery 2 back in the day and it was a 2002 that we had until about 2012 or 13
I’m not sure whether you are Greg or Craig but I want to thank you so much for this video. That was some great info mate and just what I needed. I currently drive a late 2015 diesel BMW F31 in gun-metal grey, with charcoal and cream leather trim just over 60k miles on the clock and I love it. Fantastic car and everybody passes favourable comments about it - they all love it. I bought it with privacy glass and I have to say, it is a looker. I used to live in London and if I was still there, some bugger would’ve nicked it ages ago. But I’m back home in good auld Northern Ireland and have been for many years but I have always wanted a Range Rover Sport, especially the model you are driving here. Gorgeous cars. It’s very interesting when you point out the depreciation. That doesn’t put me off as I usually buy a car I really want, love to drive and I take care of it for many years. Now retired, I don’t do the mileage I used to when working, which was over 100 miles per day. A Range Rover is still an attractive proposition though, especially the 7-seater, with two young grandsons and their parents to fit in. You gave me every bit of info I needed. Thank you mate. That deserves and will get a 👍 as well as a subscription. Best regards from the Giant’s Causeway coast of Northern Ireland. 😄👍☘️
The achilles heel is the 3.0TDv6, the Crankshaft bearings pick up & subsequently chew themselves to destruction, resulting in complete engine failure, there is no rhyme or reason for the bearing failure, they can fail @ 10k or 100k miles, bizarrely servicing is not a factor, I have known cars go in for a service & the engine seizes driving out of the service centre, that will land you with a £20k bill for a new engine, great review by the way, I'm now a subscriber 👍
All these 2.0d ignum engine's from LR are simply a rolling bag of spanners. JLR need to address a long list of electrical and engine issues on their next lot of big ideas for they're new models.
Great video, he covered every aspect,at the end of the day it is totally personal choice it doesn’t matter how cheap they drop they are very expensive to drive round and unless you’re very lucky they’ll still depreciate, you pays you money takes a choice!
and spec level of the car has to reflect the price as there is so many options..mine is HSE but has meridian sound system..full colour coded bumpers and side skirts,,heated steering wheel,,360 camera system,,tilt and slide pan roof,,tv tuner in front with screens in the rear headrest,,self park,,you got to find the right spec to suit you as there all a little different
Now at 106k. Still ok. You are missing out all you haters. Best car I have owned. No warranty, just a good local independent LR specialist. LR Services of Ipplepen
I’ve owned a RR Sport TDV8 since new, 2010, now has 250k miles on, new turbos (reconditioned) at 150k miles, a couple of air suspension bags, and lower arms, that’s it, great car!
I have had 3 RRs over the last 14 years with very few if any, problems until I got the Ev, which has had battery issues on 2 occasions. This didn't trouble me too much, but the time the dealer took to rectify the faults was very poor.
One set of people I ask about quality of JLR products are the designers and engineers on why there so much reliability problems. Going back to the mid 1990's early 2000's, there have articles about the enormous pressures on R&D engineering personnel's knock out projects very quickly without taking 6-8 years developing the upcoming model.
They’re worth sub £20k because they just fall to bits. Best feeling I had in 12 years….ditching the Range Rover brand. Gone and not missed. I loved them, while they worked but it was in an out of the garage every few months; it never ends, There is always something that needs sorting. I poured thousands of money into ‘needed maintenance’ but also preventative maintenance and it still let me down numerous times. Lost count of the amount of times it got towed to a garage. Last L322 I he’d, 5 years. Spent £6000 a year just in repairs on average. But it isn’t just about the cost, it’s the mega inconvenience every time it went in. I ended up buying a second car. Utterly ridiculous. Never again. Once working, they won’t be beaten…. When working they are literally the perfect car. But they don’t work very often and that’s their biggest downfall.
Hi Garry, I appreciate your post is over seven months old. My wife is in the market for one of these vehicles and I’m doing my research on the reliability, with you moving away from the brand can I ask what you drive now please?
@@bramstagator wanted to go to the other end of the reliability scale from the worst to the best ( after all that was really the point of ditching the brand ) I went with the Toyota Land Cruiser and it has just been amazing on every level. Not as refined but ownership experience and stress levels are in another league!
A good and mainly fair assessment. When they hit 8 years of age brake pipes rust through around the back, upper and lower suspension arm bushes need replacing, as mentioned also brake discs and pads, all costing many hundreds of pounds. Also 3.0 v6 crankshafts prone to snapping and wrecking your engine, looking at £30,000 to replace. Maybe I've forgotten a few bits, message is; if you buy one keep £5000 in the bank for the first years running cost (just in case) and that doesn't include insurance and tax. Having said that they are the best car on the road. when all's well.
I brought the 2014 SDV8 not less than a week ago, to early to comment on ownership. That being said I was going through the paperwork and the car has had outstanding routine maintenance since leaving the factory. The last owner paid 12k more than I did only two years ago, so serious depreciation in the last two years despite only covering 15k miles. You got to weigh up the risk. Yes there’s more warrantee claims, but there are also a lot more jaguar land rovers on the road than other brands, so I guess it’s commensurate. Look after your car, your car will look after you it’s simple. As for the value, buy them now….. once insurance stabilises, demand will drive prices back up.
Just bought another one after price fall of them as you say luck of the draw but I've been lucky but I'm fully aware they can cost a arm and a leg. If you are after one do your home work be prepared for issues and costs but all round a great car don't let the Internet put you off
Yes what you have said is true if you have a good one you couldn’t have a better car the cars current took a good kicking November December but are recovering it’s “definitely time to buy they’ve never been such good value January saw a big improvement “ running costs over the last 4 years have average £865.70 covering 46560 miles the only visit to landrover for annual maintenance and mot that includes tyres the engine is the 306 hp and average 35.2 mpg fast road towing and town average Insurance was not a Huge issue last year and landrover are free of charge ,cars with history going to recall back to 2016 I believe to update the security systems . So running costs no more than any other luxury car Mpg not bad as they’re made of aluminium and you can average 35.2 mpg without trying Value never been a better time to buy as prices are going to recover and are going up What better car is there to tow with What gives more luxury I’m on my second Range Rover I had 4 discovery’s before it’s been a pleasure to drive what is one of the last British vehicles even if it’s owned by tata in India Good to have someone supporting a good brand and good model my advice is buy buy buy the time is perfect
Seen one in a reputable dealer near me who I’ve always bought my cars from for £17k I had to ask was that actually the price I couldn’t believe it… if my insurance allowed me to I’d have bought it there and then
Test drove two of these during the last week, and I'm not as impressed with them as I thought I would be. Based on the reviews I've seen I was expecting a seriously refined machine, well its not. The good points are the ride quality, engine refinement, and space. The bad, are tyre noise on coarse texture surfaces, which is just about acceptable, but the worst is wind rush over the whole car at motorway speeds. It's considerably louder than my BMW 520d G30 which is to be expected, given the size difference. The doors sound very rattly as well when you close them. I really wanted to buy one but the refinement levels just were'nt up to expectations.
I and 7 friends of mine have had either Range Rover sports or Discovery 4’s , all with the 3 litre Diesel engine. Only 1 of the 8 has its original engine!!! Most of us have been life long Land Rover owners and most of us, as much as we love the cars when they are running, have or will go elsewhere in the future! The cost of running them is now off the scale and the reliability is SO bad, we can’t justify it anymore!! JLR need to get a serious grip on these issues. 😳
New engine after 18k miles is the legendary Ford Lion V6. Great engine, loads of torque, but crankshafts are prone to snapping. It’s a flawed design. Some engines do 250k others do 18k. Also worth pointing out that LR products are loaded with tech. More tech = more things to go wrong. But if you want the tech, you need to accept that at some point it will fail.
I always tread carefully here as some of the performance with warranties can be down to the communication regarding the fault and the relationship between the parties involved, there are some good ones out there and I would suggest doing some solid research and teaming that with what you think works for you based on what the cover and providers offer. All I can say is I use Autogaurd warranties for myself and it works for me.
They are nice cars but the sport should have had a longer boot. Even without an extra row of seats, it would make it that bit more flexible, more comparable to the Volvo XC90.
Thanks for the informative video!! I am contemplating the purchase of 2017 Sport SVR!! Value on these have dropped to nearly half! and here in Dubai, you may get one for even less 35K? curious to know your thoughts on their current values and ownership experience!!
Thanks for watching mate! Glad you enjoyed it! I’ve been a bit slow lately with things going on but there is an update video coming soon! SVR is a monster!! All I can say so far is I like my Range Rover and don’t regret buying it 👍
I wish somebody did this in the US. I’m looking to purchase a Range Rover, I was thinking about going new or maybe certified preowned. But I have read so many forms and seen so many videos about how unreliable they are. And I do travel often out here in the US. I’m not sure what to do because I drive a Honda pilot now and it has never left me stranded.
Thanks for the watch man, much appreciated! I’d go with whatever makes you comfortable pal, no substitute for a Range Rover when it’s on form, but it’s if you can deal with it when it’s not
Can't be relied on. No modern car should be sold with such unreliability, especially at that price. The manufacturer is to blame for cutting corners and underminding their customers.
@@jasonwicksonsews6285 There are various options for cover levels I understand and claim limits to go along with this, it would be worth making a call and getting as much info as you can. It is then a weigh up of cost vs peace of mind really, something I would hate to try and answer for you. We will be doing a video on warranties soon.
It's one of the original new shape RR Sports. It's got the oldest body shape, it's got the rubbish infotainment. You need to ask Ford about the engine, because it was built by them, not Land Rover. I've never had any significant problems with any of my Land Rovers or Range Rovers, but repairs for stuff like suspension arms and discs and pads can be expensive, though no more expensive than a similar level BMW, Audi or Mercedes. By the way, the fixed side steps look awful on that car.
Several years ago, 1 in 5 Range Rovers on the road in Malta (where they're right-hand-drive, like us) were stolen from the UK to order. Their government couldn't give a shit either, so it was easy to get them legitimately registered there.
The problem is on the manufacturing side. As an ex-employee, they were using more and more agency people on the tracks - some of whom were good, some were not! Personally, I’ve just sold my Discovery 4 for medical reasons…….i miss it SO much, and had no problems at all! Absolutely fantastic vehicle to drive, and people who have never owned one will not understand what a joy it is to drive! However, I agree with the comment about being regal - they are!
MY DAUGHTER HAS JUST HAD A RENEWAL INSURANCE QUOTE OF £28,440 FOR A 2016 RR SPORT IN LONDON (19 YEARS NCB, 2 RECENT NO FAULT CLAIMS, 6 MOTORWAY SPEEDING POINTS). SHES GOT TO TAKE IT OFF THE ROAD.
6:45 actually, we do know. the 2.7 and 3.0 JLR diesels are just piece of sh*te exactly for the reason you mentioned. If you're lucky it'll work. If not one day the crankshaft will just break in half 😆 And it might happen at 15k miles as well as at 120k 🤷♂ Its unreliability reputation aside, is it me, or around 10-year old RR is a vehicle of choice of a self employed white van man often with a number plate starting with BO55 🤣
Why does Range Rover get such bad press when the Bentley Arnage from 50k miles can blow head gaskets and other makes like BMW Mercedes also have terrible models
I can not believe that Landrover or any manufacturer for that matter, can't make a theft-proof car. I refuse to believe that. A matter of an immobilizer with the sophistication of biometrics and one-time use of randomly generated codes. they need to get their act together or this will sink the brand.
Good advice. You either get them or you don't. I had about 7, brilliant cars.

Great looking cars and you should always expect expensive repair cost on such cars)))
I had an early model, no fancy thingys no electronics just did what it was designed for. Simple, reliable v8.
Great honest information on cost and tips, subscribed!
Just got cover easy 645 for a year 2011 sdv6 rr sport .
My daughter has just bought a 17 plate autobiography and I want one so bad but I'm nervous to go and buy
I just got my mom this car she loves it. I already found a trusted specialist to take it to if a repair comes up. So far so good no engine issues. We had a discovery 2 back in the day and it was a 2002 that we had until about 2012 or 13
I went for Volvo xc90 Inscription- I was so tempted by LR but thankfully made the right move.
Same with me, Insurance on the XC90 £600 on the RR £3500.
I have owned a 2015 3sdv since 2019. Absolutely brilliant and faultless 😊. You missed roadtax £450 and occasional ulez.
Mine currently at 98k, (owned since 42k) only issue had is a blocked turbo breather hose and sensor. £30 to sort
Just service it properly, including gearbox.
I don't have warranty, just a good local independent
This is when my fully LR serviced Disco 4 blew up !!!
Other friend RR sport engine went at 28,000 miles. It will come buddy!!
Now at 106k. Still ok.
You are missing out all you haters.
Best car I have owned.
No warranty, just a good local independent LR specialist. LR Services of Ipplepen
I have 18 year old range rover spot neve leat me down not worked on LR
I’ve owned a RR Sport TDV8 since new, 2010, now has 250k miles on, new turbos (reconditioned) at 150k miles, a couple of air suspension bags, and lower arms, that’s it, great car!
Got one, same age, had it for three years, 24k km per year town and country driving,.
No issues
Fully comp insurance AUD$700
Australia isn't in the UK as far as I know😂
Lovely balanced review and honest opinion 👌 so true its a roll of the dice 🎲.
I have had 3 RRs over the last 14 years with very few if any, problems until I got the Ev, which has had battery issues on 2 occasions. This didn't trouble me too much, but the time the dealer took to rectify the faults was very poor.
I’ve heard this plenty sadly, with the EV ones particularly makes dealer turnaround times long, even if budget allowed it I’d stay away I think.
How true "Roll of the Dice" . My 2015 D4 TDV3.0 250,000 kilometres perfect, lucky eh?
I'm in for £14,000 so far in maintenance. Over 7 years for a total of 35,000 miles driven. But the waft...I'm addicted to the wafting around.
Hi Garry, I appreciate your post is over seven months old. My wife is in the market for one of these vehicles and I’m doing my research on the reliability,
with you moving away from the brand can I ask what you drive now please?
@@bramstagator wanted to go to the other end of the reliability scale from the worst to the best ( after all that was really the point of ditching the brand )
I went with the Toyota Land Cruiser and it has just been amazing on every level. Not as refined but ownership experience and stress levels are in another league!
@@garyhawkins-pianoteacherpi6490 brilliant! Thanks Gary I’ll take a look, Thankyou for the speedy response.
Who do you recommend for a warranty?
Video coming for that my friend, just waiting for some research to be completed
£3500 for my 2020 Sport. 8 companies refused including the company I was with. London based
A good and mainly fair assessment.
Perfect assessment 👌🏻
i had an early one on an 02 plate and after 200,000 miles and 20 years MOT testers were amazed at how good it was
I brought the 2014 SDV8 not less than a week ago, to early to comment on ownership.
The V8 should be ok🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
The 3 litre diesel is a totally different matter 💀💀💀💀
Just bought another one after price fall of them as you say luck of the draw but I've been lucky but I'm fully aware they can cost a arm and a leg. If you are after one do your home work be prepared for issues and costs but all round a great car don't let the Internet put you off
Absolutely! Thanks for watching mate!
I know 3 people that had Rangy sports. 2 had suspension issues. The 3rd hardly a problem
Yes what you have said is true if you have a good one you couldn’t have a better car the cars current took a good kicking November December but are recovering it’s “definitely time to buy they’ve never been such good value January saw a big improvement “ running costs over the last 4 years have average £865.70 covering 46560 miles the only visit to landrover for annual maintenance and mot that includes tyres the engine is the 306 hp and average 35.2 mpg fast road towing and town average
Insurance was not a Huge issue last year and landrover are free of charge ,cars with history going to recall back to 2016 I believe to update the security systems .
So running costs no more than any other luxury car
Mpg not bad as they’re made of aluminium and you can average 35.2 mpg without trying
Value never been a better time to buy as prices are going to recover and are going up
What better car is there to tow with
What gives more luxury
I’m on my second Range Rover I had 4 discovery’s before it’s been a pleasure to drive what is one of the last British vehicles even if it’s owned by tata in India
Good to have someone supporting a good brand and good model my advice is buy buy buy the time is perfect
Appreciate the feedback pal! Thanks for watching!
my evoque is doing 32mpg round town its a 2ltr 180 bhp engine , so yours is doing really good
@@josephgittos3787evoque are awful on fuel, the absolute worst!
Seen one in a reputable dealer near me who I’ve always bought my cars from for £17k I had to ask was that actually the price I couldn’t believe it… if my insurance allowed me to I’d have bought it there and then
Great Video - brilliant balance,. Thank you,.
Thank you 👍
LV won't insure them. Best I could do was £4k when looking to buy one. Bought an RS4 instead, £450 fully comp.
Username checks out 😂
We have a Range Rover Sport dynamic…autobiography, fantastic vehicle..just renewed my insurance £648 fully comp for 2024/25
Impossible. Where do you live?? And which insurance company?

I and 7 friends of mine have had either Range Rover sports or Discovery 4’s , all with the 3 litre Diesel engine. Only 1 of the 8 has its original engine!!! Most of us have been life long Land Rover owners and most of us, as much as we love the cars when they are running, have or will go elsewhere in the future! The cost of running them is now off the scale and the reliability is SO bad, we can’t justify it anymore!! JLR need to get a serious grip on these issues. 😳
Who do you use for your warranty out of interest, any recommendations ?
Autoguard warranties mate. Can do bespoke or standard packages. Never had a problem with them 👍
@@GregandCraigsGaragethanks buddy, I'll take a look 👍
Any suggestions for a warranty company for a car of this age?
Take a look at the newest video pal we cover that 👍 thanks for watching 😁
I think you hit the nail on the head….
Unfortunately, It’s a roll of the dice with JLR.😥
Thanks pal! It is indeed!
Most I got out of my RR sport diesel was 22 mpg
New engine after 18k miles is the legendary Ford Lion V6. Great engine, loads of torque, but crankshafts are prone to snapping. It’s a flawed design. Some engines do 250k others do 18k.
Also worth pointing out that LR products are loaded with tech. More tech = more things to go wrong. But if you want the tech, you need to accept that at some point it will fail.
You say to get a bloody good warranty, and that you have one. Can you recommend one?
I always tread carefully here as some of the performance with warranties can be down to the communication regarding the fault and the relationship between the parties involved, there are some good ones out there and I would suggest doing some solid research and teaming that with what you think works for you based on what the cover and providers offer. All I can say is I use Autogaurd warranties for myself and it works for me.
@@GregandCraigsGaragethanks, appreciate the answer
The two happiest days of Range Rover ownership are the day you pick it up and the day you get rid of it.
Wrong, every day I walk out to it
They are nice cars but the sport should have had a longer boot. Even without an extra row of seats, it would make it that bit more flexible, more comparable to the Volvo XC90.
You can get 2016/17 autobiography for less than 20k too around 100K miles
Land Rovers are premium priced vehicles but with low cost parts how do I know ? I have had four.
Really?? And how about these all talk of the insurance & breakdown
Great honest review.
Just renewed on my sport 2016 same as last year 750.00
Thanks for the informative video!!
How about being severely tough on criminal thieves!!!
Who do you use for your Warranty?
Autogurard Warranties mate
@@GregandCraigsGarage but only has a 4K claim limit is that enough for a Land Rover?
@@jasonwicksonsews6285 There are various options for cover levels I understand and claim limits to go along with this, it would be worth making a call and getting as much info as you can. It is then a weigh up of cost vs peace of mind really, something I would hate to try and answer for you. We will be doing a video on warranties soon.
In Ireland 40 to 60 k for a 2017 to 19 plate , the hybrids are the cheapest
Never thought I’d live to see the day where the words - “Range Rover” and “value for money”, would be within the same sentence and be appropriate.
You have to have deep pockets full of cash to own a Range Rover out of warranty or just to keep the thing maintained and insured.
How much is road tax?
Minimum £450
A nice driveway ornament...or parking outside the Gymn or school run 😂🎉
It's one of the original new shape RR Sports. It's got the oldest body shape, it's got the rubbish infotainment. You need to ask Ford about the engine, because it was built by them, not Land Rover. I've never had any significant problems with any of my Land Rovers or Range Rovers, but repairs for stuff like suspension arms and discs and pads can be expensive, though no more expensive than a similar level BMW, Audi or Mercedes. By the way, the fixed side steps look awful on that car.
Interesting video, but wish you drove with both hands on the wheel and no elbow on the window ledge - even in a Range Rover.
Nice car, love the sunroof
Thank you mate 👍
I think the biggest fear is reliability. However, I’ve never owned one so I don’t know whether that is a myth.
Not unless you want to find it's been nicked, also if you can afford the insurance in the 1st place!!
Definitely things to consider, we've tried our best to cover that. Will do an update when my insurance renews. Thanks for the watch and the comment!
Several years ago, 1 in 5 Range Rovers on the road in Malta (where they're right-hand-drive, like us) were stolen from the UK to order. Their government couldn't give a shit either, so it was easy to get them legitimately registered there.
WOW, did not know that! Absolute madness! Thanks for the view and comment as usual pal!
I wouldn’t spend 5k with JLR ever!
Once bitten twice shy!
Not reliable I had to spend 8K on repairs , buyer beware!
Buy a bad one and you are in for a shock!
I sold them in the late 90s just as bad now as then.
Just don’t do it - life is tough enough already without having one of these around your neck.
When he said why why are they so cheep I was shouting insurance and theft of these stay the fuck away from them 😂😂free advise 🙌
30 plus mpg! ill take that, mu freelander only does 27
Yeh its not too bad on a run to be fair! Thanks for watching pal 😁
The insurance costs for a 20k RRS is at least £2k a year and probably rising going forward! Who's going to pay that??
That video will be coming in March 👍 I’m hoping you’re wrong 😁
MY DAUGHTER HAS JUST HAD A RENEWAL INSURANCE QUOTE OF £28,440 FOR A 2016 RR SPORT IN LONDON (19 YEARS NCB, 2 RECENT NO FAULT CLAIMS, 6 MOTORWAY SPEEDING POINTS). SHES GOT TO TAKE IT OFF THE ROAD.
My advice:
- Pay £12k off your mortgage (assuming you have one).
- Get a BMW 525i Touring for £8k
3.0l engines have a habit of snapping crankshafts.
They have been known to for sure
Spot on
Id finance one over 5 years if bumper to bumper warranty applied
77 000 miles is not really low mileage and you know after 70 000 the beginning of replacement parts kicks in.
6:45 actually, we do know. the 2.7 and 3.0 JLR diesels are just piece of sh*te exactly for the reason you mentioned. If you're lucky it'll work. If not one day the crankshaft will just break in half 😆 And it might happen at 15k miles as well as at 120k 🤷♂
Its unreliability reputation aside, is it me, or around 10-year old RR is a vehicle of choice of a self employed white van man often with a number plate starting with BO55 🤣
Buy an X5, Q7 or anything else that won't cost silly money to insure
I think your find Q7 have issues with water pumps.
