It's hard to find high quality reviews of these lower end amps, so I really applaud you for doing such a great review. I think the amp sounds great for what it is!

I owned one of the first generation versions… was very thin but had Marshall character.. The SD1 gives it that sorta extra dimension that it’s missing.

I remember doing a show where another band was using this amp for their tones and it sounded just fine. Like you said - it's a Marshall. 😊 Plus, for a lot of us that do the smaller shows at our local bars this amp is just fine for that stuff. Great video as always!

I play in a grind/hardcore/black-metal/power-violence band and use the MG100HCFX... And, honestly, NO JOKE, people ask me OFTEN about it because it sounds so good!
My distortion is 100% from the amp too! I play a 1991 American Strat Plus that has a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails for the bridge pick-up and top of the line 500k Pots which, admittedly, does a LONG way for how good the amp sounds. As does having both 4x12 cabs on opposite sides of the stage (we don't have a bass player so it's necessary).
In front of the amp I run a tuner, a Hotone Krush (Bit Crusher), and an MXR Micro Amp (for only a few short Gain boosts for the amps Clean channel in the set).
Thru the FX-Loop is my board that goes, Saturnworks Volume-Cut pedal, Xotic EP Boost, Boss GE-7, MXR Carbon Copy Delay, Mooer Reecho delay, Earthquaker Devices Avalanche Run reverb/delay (w/Exp Pedal), TC Electronics T2 modulated reverb, and my Lekato Looper... The Avalanche Run also makes anything going thru it sound nice and lush.
Point is: besides the GUITAR, it's a relatively inexpensive, solid-state rig, considering all it's parts BUT... It is absolutely CRUSHING!! I LOVE this amp!

Thanks for the review. I've a had the MG100HCFX collecting dust for months (came with the Marshall 4x30 cabinet that I "needed") . Just plugged it in and pleased as its a worthy practice amp for hobbyists like myself and you can get these dirt cheap. Thanks for your great content and playing Euge!

Great video, as a longtime user of this head( and previous version, the gold panel one) I would suggest to crank the used channel volume, in that case the damping button emulates even better the behaviour of a tube amp, anyway a good and affordanle alternative to a much more expensive Marshall tube head

    IN 2005 I had a MG 100w 1x12...but sold it.
    Replaced the TSL with
    The latest MG 100W

As it was £ 500 cheaper

I love my mg50gfx, I have a Wampler plexi drive deluxe I use through the clean channel with it. Sounds like a Marshall!!! Only thing I hate about is that after I store the preset I like and turn it off and then back on it will sound flat. I think one of the volume knobs has something wrong with it. Have to get it looked at.

Good test Euge. The solid state definitely sounds very different compared to any of the tube amps. To me it sounds more muted, the notes are very rounded ( like highs lows and mids are too even) and almost sound very controlled like it's not able to output the dynamics variations in your playing .
Would be interesting to see how much an eq and volume control can get it closer to the tube amps
