Watching your fingers on the fret board flowing effortlessly it is clear your muscle memory is now so advanced that you can just play what's in your head without restriction and it really shows. Such flowing and soaring soloing is beautiful to listen to and very Jimi like but definitely in your own style not his. Great amp but transcends in the hands of a master - that will be Dave Simpson then !
I can't believe I've had this amp for over 15 years. Recently got a Boss MK2 and have been playing around with that for like 6 months. And then I find your channel, that I've come across before, and my what I thought was a shitty Marshall amp is actually capable of those sounds. You've reinvigorated my love for this amp.
I have that head on top of a 1960A cab. It's amazing how many sounds you can get out of it. I have a notebook I use to write down the settings when I find one I like because if I don't, then I'll never find it again. Rugged and reliable, mine has been beat around for years and still kicking it.
I like how it goes from crystal clean, to gritty distortion. For classic rock or crunch tones people don't realize how good some solid states or vr amps sound
I have 2 MG100HDFX heads with the urge to hoard more lol!! They really are amazing. They used to get so much hate but it was all unjustified. People are now finding out how good they are.
A lot of guitar players unfortunately are braindead meatheads who once they buy a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier or something similar feel like they have to shit on any amp under $1000 or any Solid State amp because they think that makes them a true guitar player but it doesn't obviously lol.
Dave i just managed to change the noisy fan on mine , cost a fiver from the bay , now works like a dream no more mooing fan its easy do , there is a youtube vid on it too . .oh yeh and i put small casters on the bottom of the speaker cab , so now im all set . all the best to you .
I just love my MG15dfx. I play it as often as my jcm800 and jvm410. It feels awesome that you just turn it on and can play instantly. The tone is magical with the 80s heavy metal characters, especially when you add in a bit of onboard reverb or delay.
I’ve had 2 for a few years and still enjoy them along with a vs100-which I feel does the hair metal thing a little better. My first mg100 blew the output board because like a dummy I had my cab wired wrong. Bought a new board off of eBay and she lives again. Thank you Dave for opening my eyes to this amp

Great to see you making another video about the MG100HDFX, you really make these amps sing Dave. I think you make your best sounds when playing these particular amps. I would never sell mine either.

Dave, just picked up the MG100HDFX because of you!! Love it. Used your settings !! Love them. Best $160 USD I ever spent. They just happened to have a GUV NOR also , bought it. Love it . Thanks for being Dave !!

Great playing! Like to see people making this amp sound so good....refreshing! Tired of all the JCM 800 vids. You make this amp sound good!!! Keep on rocking and cheers from Los Ángeles 👌
Dave, you inspire all players to love there solid states. Great job. I haven't played this amp, but I can say that I do love my Orange CR60. Really enjoyed the video. Also your recording seems to be getting better.
That intro is still so Awesome I have showed that to everybody!.. And you sold me on that head i had bought the cabinets from a pawn shop for $300 {killer deal} like brand new.. and that's how i found your channel. I can't believe it took me so long figure it out .. Great Video, Great Guitar Work.. Thanks Brother..
I picked up one of these Marshall MG100HDFX heads today at a GC used in very good condition for 150 bucks. I have seen them before but never plugged into one. As I was looking around today I heard someone jamming and liked the tone, it was coming from this head into a 1960 4x12 cab. I waited for him to finish, grabbed an HSS Strat and plugged in. I was VERY impressed. All the talk about the Boss Katana MK2 which I also own (100w head) and nothing about this hidden gem. Its always about the Marshall CODE which I absolutely dislike. Although its not fair to compare the Katana to the MG as they are different amps IMO. The Marshall MG sounds like a Marshall DSL, 800, 900 and Plexi with different Contour and channel settings, its very versatile to say the least. The MG is not an extreme high gain head which the Katana can do by using the software, its just a great Marshall tone. I was also very impressed with the clean channel. Its just a great sounding Marshall tone amp and as you said...very easy to dial in a great tone.
I picked on up after your vids for $50 works perfect with a foot switch as well... My old fender 212 can't keep up! Very happy. Great pedal platform as well
Double strap means business!! Also,. LOVE MY MG100 HDFX SOOOO MUCH!!!! Got it local head and cab for 200$USD :D Love it. Thank you for the inspiration and love of the guitar!! Dave, what kind of Zoom camera do you use? Do you plug the SM57 lead into the zoom camera?
Indeed it does. hahaha. :) I'm trying to keep some of the weight off my left shoulder as recently I am really struggling standing up and playing. Thank you very much for watching and so happy you love your MG. I use a Zoom Q8 and the mic does plug straight into the camera yeps. : )
I feel kinda stupid not having thought of this before 😂 my spine actually grew in somewhat of a spiral shape... Very slightly but of course enough to really mess me up if I sit or sleep in a wrong position for a long time... Already moving on to Danelectros for the light weight and headless guitars for the light weight and ergonomics... But this might help too I'm keeping my D'Angelico 335 copies because they're not THAT heavy but unfortunately there's no use in keeping anything else 😪 guitars shouldn't be wallhangers and move on to someone who plays them... But you know... Sentimental value and all that
I had the MG15DFX combo for the longest time and traded or sold it along the way and wish I still had it. I've always wanted one of the half stacks with MG100DFX. Or a full stack with two B cabinets lol
Hi Dave, how are you feeling at the moment? I hope you are dealing with all that comes your way, and remember that we all love you out here. I just picked up an MG 100HDFX head and am very pleased with it. I agree that the emulated out sounds fantastic. I also wish that Marshall would have implemented the option of switching between the four distinctive sounds. Great playing as always Dave. Peace.

Wait i just noticed the mg's are different. The fish mg has the chassis at the top and the other two at the bottom, mine is at the top. Did they put the chassis in a different cab. Oh so they pulled the chassis from a combo and mounted it in a cab for a head. Looks good.
Are these bigger cases custom made or plexi empty cases - something like that ? Also have three MGs. Never loved an amp like these. Played and owned a lot (tube, hybrid, etc). Great sounding, no tube problems live, no heavy lifting. Best!
The early fans didn't have a proper main bearing at the end of the main shaft the blades are on and when the plastic housing wears the fan wobbles in and out off balace hence the dying cow sound effects later fans were pc fans that had an integrated bearing bush so were much quieter . Really need to get me one of those FA Guitar cabs Flexi Heads but then i get a hankering for a Bluesfaker oh the agony of choice ! I never ever use reverb , have 2 delays one is an always on set single repeat and slightly longer than slapback , not noticable in effect until you turn it off. Acts as a sound thickener and well worth a try in lieu of reverb for a more subtle but very effective alternative .
Please someone help me out. I'm thinking about a valvestate vs 100 with a lead900 cab. Do the cleans compare to the mg and what do you think about the cleans, I have a combo vs30 and love it so anybody know if they re similar? Thank you so much
Dave, Awesome playing and video as always! How does the MG compare in the mystic world of feedback as compared to a Plexi? Will it do the intro to Foxy Lady or the Star Spangled Banner, etc. of course with a Fuzz Face but will it also feed back like a proper cranked tube Marshall? Thanks, All the best!! GM
Hey Dave, quite late for that question but its regarding the settings on the OD1 channel. In your other review of the MG you have totally different settings compared to the ones in this vid. Which ones are the "real deal" (if there is one). I dialed in your settings of this video and I hear a significant drop in volume if I change from clean to OD1. Is that normal or is it just my MG? Btw: Best 150€ I spent on the MG head and the 4x12 cab. Greetz form Germany, love your videos so inspiring, keep up the amazing work - Jay
Thats actually one of my songs. :) There just basic pentatonic licks from people like Jimi Hendrix and Mike McCready. Best way to learn is to figure as many classic blues rock solos out as you can and create a little library in your head of your favourites : )
I looking at a purple one of these later today. Bass on 10? That seems really high, right? I mean, usually that makes Marshalls (the ones that I have) really bassy. Do you balance it with an EQ or does the MG do something different with Bass than say an Origin or DSL or JCM 900 studio?
Watching your fingers on the fret board flowing effortlessly it is clear your muscle memory is now so advanced that you can just play what's in your head without restriction and it really shows.
I multiple setting for the mg that i love but the main ones are in the main mg demo vid and also the settings i use for my pedal board. :)

@@thedavesimpson thanks so much mate
Ok, I now have one of these, after watching this video. Why do you set it on no treble?
Dude I’ve been wondering this for a long time too. The more I watch his videos the more I get pissed off ... It doesn’t sound right at all...
Hell Ya!
Dave, how can I learn to play blues riffs and licks like what you were jamming on fora few minutes at 16:31?
Thats actually one of my songs. :)
There just basic pentatonic licks from people like Jimi Hendrix and Mike McCready.
Hi Dave, what do you think of Marshall mg 50 dfx combo? Is it loud enough for drums? Or mg 100 combo would be better?
The 50 for me is the weak one. The 100 is best.
What drive pedal?
At the beginning i was using a marshall guvnor 2 plus and a boss ds2 together. Other than that it was all from the amp : )
Loved the surfy bit near the end. LET'S GO BEACH!
Thank you. : )
