Sewing My New Italian Gown | Aidah Gown Pattern Test Part 2

- Опубликовано: 5 фев 2023
- Hello Friends! Today we are pattern testing a new Italian gown for Scroop Patterns and Virgil's Fine Goods, the Aidah Gown! This is a beautiful Italian gown that has three different types of fronts (depending on if you go for a zone front with tabs or not) and two backs with some optional trains. I have decided to do the front from one view and the back from another! In this week's installment, we will finish up the dress, and make a fun little hat to go with it for the photoshoot!

Lol - couldn't stop myself. Every time you said "release the pleats" in my head i'm yelling "release the beasts". And we got a two-fer, a finished dress and a decorated hat! Well done. Both really pretty.
You and me both!
My mind went to "release the kraken"
Hahaha for me it was “pull the lever!!!”
MEE TOOOO
That dress looks so good on you. The person who chose you to test this pattern made an excellent choice.
The chocolate brown with the all-over pattern is the perfect muslin for this project…. Disguised a myriad of problems! I’d have been tempted to leave the back and straps as they were, but I’m impressed with your perseverance. The silk gown will be THAT MUCH better as a benefit of your hard work!
Wow, that was some fast construction on a detailed pattern! Beautiful dress! That hat's a total finesse!
Thank you! 😊
I totally agree with Sue Fiebiger: the Aidah gown style suits you. This first one came out really well, and I love the hat! The latter totally complements the gown. It will be interesting to see whether the silk Aidah hangs differently.
If you wanted it to be a valentine's themed outfit you could add pale pink lace around the neck and sleeves and it would tie it in the the hat and be like chocolate and roses! :-)
I did it again! You said, "I figure out what size I am and I cut the pattern out. I'm sure most of you do it.🤣" I literally said outloud, "That's not a thing I do. It's not a thing!" 🤣This lady doth protest! But when you mentioned quilting the butt...my heart sang. In fact there was an aria or an opera going on. I saw butterflies and rainbows. Silly how one word makes me so happy. I have a face for radio, otherwise I'd totally quilt my heart out on RUclips.
Don't know what it is about the hat, but I love it - it just makes me happy.
Thank you!
🌺 great work. The finished project shows how much you love your life. Your videos are so incredibly interesting. The dress fits amazingly. Thank you for such cute honesty ❤
Both the dress and the hat came out beautifully! I especially like the color of the fabric, almost makes me want some chocolate! 😊
Thank you! 😊
Aaah, it looks great, it fits so well! Marking the sleeves AND armscyes with R and L...so simple...and yet brilliant and never occurred to me 😳 🤦♀️
I feel kinda stupid and kinda genius whenever I do it! 😂
Most fabric tape measures are 5/8 ths wide and make marking seam allowance super easy! Just a thought 😁 great video! 💙
Great tip!
I love this dress on you! The color is gorgeous, it’s almost like this pattern was made just for you. The hat is the perfect accessory. I would love to see a tucker at the neckline and sleeves, I think it would really take this dress to a perfect 10 out of ten. I hope you post the photo shot soon here on RUclips. Can’t wait to see you make this dress in silk.
Thank you for taking me along for this uplifting journey.
💖💖
The gown is beautiful, but the hat makes it fun!
Thanks! I agree!
I just finished making my husband some replica Blackpool Football Club T-shirts. Now, i think I need a skirt, and I am taking a quilting class, making a tote for taking to, quilting classes ;)
Really lovely. Glad the pattern worked so well for you. And it's even better with the hat. ❤
Thank you! 😊
It's absolutely beautiful, and I LOVE the fabric. Beautiful! 😊
Thank you so much!
Beautiful, can't wait for the silk gown. Please show us some photos of the Ball.😍
Adorable hat
Tomorrow….
ooh, I want Patterns of Fashion 2 too!
Labeling sleeves was a massive game changer for me. I label the back of the sleeve too because I definitely have confused myself into putting sleeves on backwards, inside out, on the wrong side etc etc.... the dress and hat turned out super cute! Also hope your neck feels better too!!!
Thank you! 💖
Your dress turned out so cute! I like the adorable hat too. I'm trying to catch up, so off to see you make a new bonnet!
Be well,
Audri
Thank you! 😊
That dress is super flattering on you.
Oh thank you!
Great that you have your mojo back. I enjoyed this project and looking forward to more. I've decided to have a ufo clear out and so I am working on an English paper piecing lap quilt.
Oh lovely!
It's nice to get back into the swing of things. I'm having to re-fold all of my fabric bins because I spent a lot of time , apparently, putting things where they didn't belong. And, Yeah, I have been known to just blindly cut out my size. It's always good to get a heads up on that. I love that Brunhilde can't wear the thing but you can. I think there needs to be a Pass The Thread kind of thing where everyone introduces their mannequin. My first one never had a name, my second one is Kim. She is perfect for bustle era skirts. (My kids prefer to call her Kimberly.)
Mine is named Gemini.
Hope your neck is feeling loads better soon! This dress is really lovely on you, the fit and the shape is wonderful xx
Thank you so much!!
I just got a package of Frixion pens and marking my sewing lines the same way with the little thingy (that I got from your link!). Makes SUCH a difference!
I love the final look so much! Well done!!
That ended up being a beautiful dress. It looks great on you.
Oh thank you!
36:30 I enjoyed these videos. It really helped me figure out if I am anywhere near ready to attack such a project. Everything but the sleeves seems doable. I’ll probably be proficient enough by autumn which will be just in time to make a birthday gown. I can’t wait to see your silk version.
You can totally do the sleeves! You just need to go slow and baste!!
“New member of the family”. I was hoping for cat pix! Brilliant work on the gown. Really enjoyed watching as always.
Awesome! Thank you!
This came out great! Love the fabric honestly
That turned out so great! And it looks like it would be doable for even thinking intermediate level sewist!
You look great!
Thanks! And yes! This one isn’t hard at all!
Wow, I'm blown away by your magical sleeve fitting and setting techniques!! Today's the day that I do the sleeves for my Robe a L'Anglaise so naturally I'll be watching and rewatching your video all day XD
Life has been about self care lately. I've been trying to listen to myself to determine when I need a break and when I need to nourish myself (physically and mentally). A hiatus from life sounds really good right now though lol.
Would I Lie To You is still going strong and I recently started watching The Weakest Link with my parents. My favorites are the ones with the comedian contestants (possibly because they know only a bit more than I do but mostly because they are surprisingly competitive in the funniest way).
Said it before, will say it again, I freaking love this dress (and of course the matching hat!). I'm **cough cough** still working on my shift. It's sooo close to being done but I realized I do not have button hole thread and I haven't been into 'the city' the last two weekends to pick some up. Le sigh.
I think I already said this but really love the material on this dress. somehow just speaks to me. :)
always hope for rain in the Bay Area, as long as it isn't overwhelming
You look gorgeous! Great job! Also, I am loving the funk music.
Thank you so much!!
You look amazing in your gown and bergere hat!
Thank you!
Love the hat. Dress looks good 👍
Thanks so much
This came out so very beautifully!
Thank you so much!
I love your dress! The neckline is so flattering!
Oh thank you!
Lovely dress and hat!
Thank you! Cheers!
Omg loved the thumbnail. The pattern is just fab 👏🏽
Yay, thank you!
You look so pretty! I love this pattern on you. Gentle bear hugs xx
Thank you! 😊
Hrah!
OMG! That seam gauge is amazing! I need to get me one of those!
Lovely!
Also I got some good tips.
This is such a pretty dress (and hat)!
I'm watching while working on a Princess Zelda costume.
Oooo that’s awesome!
It's amazing!!! Love it so much. 🖤🖤🖤🖤👍🏽😃
Thank you so much!!
Oh, you finished so fast (I am just finishing the bodice today, skirt is for tomorrow). I really love the fabric, and that hat is ever so cute!
Thank you! And I have no choice! So much to do!!
Looking amazing! Well done! 🤗
Thank you! 😊
I love the dress 😍 I'm sure it will be gorgeous in silk.
Also I think the bend at the back of the hat is perfect. It provides enough room to pull your hair into a bun that would be too much to actually fit in/under the hat.
My hair is frequently too much to pile up under a hat 🤠
Oh thank you!
that came out great!
Beautiful gown, marvelous and flattering fit. And yes, in silk!
Have so wanted that particular Patterns of Fashion, thanks for letting us know its back in print!
So beautiful!!!!
Thank you!!
I’d love that fabric as a waistcoat 😍
I love it! ❤
It’s quite pretty! I really like it!
I think that it looks so much better as far as the length in the back then I thought it was going to as well. And the front I'm liking it a lot and I might have to get this pattern after you're done testing it so that I can make it in something beautiful as well
I've been working on training my cat to walk on a leash. He likes to go onto the porch and so if he goes out, I've been putting on a harness and leash and going on walks with him. He's.... so/so on it, but still wants to go out all the time. (He also wants all the windows open and all the blinds up so he can survey his kingdom...and is spoiled).
I've also done a bit of work on grading patterns for a friend (I'm at the upper end-ish of most normal patterns and she's bigger than I am) and it's a lot of brain work and measuring and thinking 'oh, gods, did i get that measurement right?....sleeves are hard....granted, I've only graded tops that are meant to be semi-fitted, so there's that, too, not anything well-fitted like historical dress.
And, the dress is gorgeous. It looks quite comfortable, too. With the way I'm built, I wouldn't likely need a rump...but I think that might also make fitting a bit more finicky, too, since my rump won't be squished around *sigh* I'm glad you're happy with the pattern and maybe it doesn't fit your mannequin the same because she doesn't squish the same way?
I don’t really squish much either, so I’m really baffled by that one!
Love it! Looks so pretty on you.
Thank you so much!!
Yay! Thank you for the try-on, complete with hat. Very nice.
Yay, thank you!
Seriously, how many people get to strike "Fix Butt" off their to-do list?
And I draw my stitch lines on everything. Turns out I'm not very accurate when I sew, and also having the stitch lines helps me immensely when I'm lining things up to pin them together, turns out I'm not terribly accurate at cutting either. I'm removing seam allowances from my self-made patterns too. I draw my stitch line in one colour then my seam allowance/cut line in another. And I label EVERYTHING, sometimes even orientations...
That turned out really neat, and I really liked how they had you attach the skirt part to the pointed bit in the back, made a lot of sense to me, I like the v-waist thing, it is beneficial to my lack of shape, and never figured out how to add the skirt part without it all being wonky AF.
I'm currently at the "making a wearable mockup" stage after making the lining as the "mockup for the mockup" of a vest, this one's cotton lining from stash with plaid wool and I wanna try a welt pocket... only screwed up the pattern matching and had to recut one piece so I guess that's a win... ultimately I want to try a reversible vest with piping using some really pretty purple remnant fabric I got when I bought the wool I'm using. And something from stash that doesn't look awful with it or the turquoise I want to use for the piping will be the other side...unless I have enough of the turquoise for the other side AND the piping, that could work...
Beautiful fit!
Thank you! 😊
You are so pretty, love the dress ❤ I am all most done with my corset
Thank you! And yay!!
It turned out so good! 😊
Thank you!! 😊
ITS SO PRETTY!!! Great Job!!! 😘🍄
Thank you!! 😊
It turned out so good! And I love the hat!!
Thank you!!
It was so nice seeing you again. I haven't been getting notifications on your videos for a long time, or you have been off for a while. I didn't get unsubscribed, so I'm not sure what was happening. I did check your Patreon, but nothing new was on there either. Have you been ok? This dress looks great on you. I don't know if you have lost weight, but this dress certainly makes you look 20 lbs slimmer. I will have to go back and see if I can find Part 1 to hear all about the pattern and sizing. The hat works perfectly with the style as well. Congrats and I am happy for you that you feel very comfortable in it. It sounded like the end of the year was a struggle for you, but this is a new year and hopefully you will get a new look at your self and the issues you were concerned with. You Can Do This!!! We are all here to support you!!! Hugs
There should be stuff on my channel and also my Patreon for you! And part 1 is linked in the beginning of the video and also the description, for your convenience. If you want, you can hit the little bell thing and it will notify you every time I have a new video!
Your dress looks great. I would love to make one of these this summer
Thank you! You should! It’s a pretty easy gown to put together!
Yummy outfit so pretty. The bonnet really adds that finishing touch!❤
Thank you! 😊
Wow a beautiful dress and a lovely hat it looks lovely on you x
Thanks so much
This is such a flattering dress, and it looks really good on you. Its as though they drafted the pattern on you! You seem to have had very few issues making it up as well which adds to your please in wearing it. I'm really looking forward to seeing the silk version of this. I
Nice! It's awesome that it fit so well with minimal alterations. It looks fab on you and I love the brown floral fabric.
Thank you! 😊
Fantastic make. It is a very flattering style on you. I might need to buy the pattern when it's released....but I would need a corset first. This year, I am focusing on finishing up some UFO's. Most are quilts. I need to clear space in my sewing room so I can get more serious about costuming. Thanks for another great video.
Looks great and the hat is super cute. Great job. To the end. Got boning in the mail for my stays and the fabric for my next 2 projects. Super excited.
That is awesome!
The dress really looks wonderful on you. I like the encouragement to fix the things that aren't quite working well. I'm glad that you got your bum pad fixed.
Thank you!
It turned out so cute, great job!
Thank you! 😊
I'm doing some Monday Mending, that has encroached into Tuesday.😀
Fun dress! I’m just getting some panels of a room divider continued, I started before Christmas last year😅 hasn’t exactly been a priority..
very pretty! i love pink and brown. the hat is adorable. i think 18th century suits you quite well.
Oh thank you!
I loved your "My butt is excitable" commentary from the last video, made me laugh. Also i played double round "thread chicken" with my last project: end of a spool and bobbin. Had less then 2 feet left on both when I finished.
Very pretty. Looks good on you.
Thank you!!
Such a pretty dress
Such a cute hat!
(Mending today)
Thank you!
@@Costuming_Drama you are welcome
Thank you for going through all the fuss to share your costuming journeys and experiences with all of us!
😀💗
That came out really cute! It looks very flattering and was very much worth the crazy basting. I think I would rather enjoy this making this pattern to be honest because it really looks properly plus sized.
You should!
That’s beautiful! The pattern is lovely.
Not doing much still cleaning I actually got rid of some patterns! Ogaling the add for our local fabric shop. Flannel is on sale! I want a flannel but it would be next fall project. It also wouldn’t be very stash busting! I’m still going to go look at it this week! Maybe I won’t buy anything
So pretty ❤️ The dress as well ;) 😘 I've commented before that we have very similar figures, and your projects show me all the things that I now want to make as well. One day... One day I'll have/make time to start making the things 😅
Thanks!!
And "new member of the family"...I must say I was thinking a kitten. Ugh! I want kitten pics!
Your dress and hat turned out beautifully. I am currently finishing up a 1940's coat for my 10 year old daughter. She is an old soul like me and loves anything vintage. Hopefully I will get it finished before it warms up here, but wow tailoring projects are intsense. This is the first tailored anything I have ever attempted.
Sounds great!
That is a luscious brown and it looks so pretty made up to that pattern!
Currently I am:
1) finishing the design on some inlay patterns for veneering on a prototype - although it's more procrastination than finishing because veneer is not something I'm comfy with yet
2) havering over what to start working on next from a whole set of possible new designs based on historic buildings and things around my town
3) trying to figure out how best to turn a nearly-done felted rat into a puppet for a Laudna (Critical Role) cosplay I'm helping out with
Among a few other bits and bobs!
Hi Noelle, you created a beautiful dress and hat. Thank you for sharing all your adventures in making this.
I completed my first knitted blanket. I'm doing a make a long this year crocheting square a month for another blanket. This is excellent motivation to finish the chemise and skirt I mentioned on your last video. Now you're all caught up on my big projects. Sending positive vibes and well wishes always 🖤
Yay first knitted blanket!
THANK YOU ♥
nice😉
😍
i don't know why youtube didn't recommend your videos in my feed for so long :< i like to watch them, your voice is smooth and the music is always so great =)
Oh thank you! You can click the bell thing and it will for sure alert you!
The fit is lovely! I noticed you pulling at the shoulder strap but when you are just sitting around it doesn't look like it's gapping or anything - it looks just beautiful on you. Glad you are feeling better!
Oh thank you!
That's beautiful fabric for that dress! I'm so happy to see you try, experiment, fix, and try again. I learn so much, and it lets me know that I'm not inept myself! Zippers are a thing for me that I need to examine and FIGURE OUT every - darn - time - I sew one. Thank you for sharing your complete process with us, even sometimes!
I just finished a "light academic" wool-blend plaid, pleated skirt. It's going to be paired with a cable-knit crew neck pullover, black tights, and boots. Lapped the zipper and it turned out right the first time!
I'm having hard time finding the hem tape that looks kind of like ribbon, but it's more sheer, very thin. It goes at the bottom of the cut so you don't need to fold up twice. It eliminates bulk at the hem of dress pants. I think it was just called hem tape. I found a little in my mother's old sewing notions, but can't find it to buy anywhere. Any ideas on that?
Search Amazon for lace hem tape or ribbon hem tape and that should get you what you need!
Wow, thank you... I searched a sewing supply company, and I've looked at JoAnn 's and local fabric stores with no luck.
you look adorable! im refashioning a dress that i lived the fabric and hatted the dress i made and then im making pants because nothing fits..
“I just want to be able to tell the left sleeve from the right sleeve” 😂😂😂 I need to do that too!!!
I can’t tell you how many times I have set the wrong sleeve in the hole… multiple times in a garment.
I never seem to have a pen when I need one, so I'll mark the right sleeve with 2 pins somewhere noticable but not in the way when I'm cutting it out.
Brown is such an underrated color. The deep color is amazing in that fabric! I love everything about this look! TFS 💙👋👍
Thank you so much!
A warm neck wrap helps relax the muscles, I’ve had neck problems for about 35 years (I broke my neck 22 years ago, range of motion is the only real deficit I have)
I have one on all the way through this video. Unfortunately, it didn’t help much, but it provided temporary relief!
@@Costuming_Drama I know…helps with lower back pain too, rehab might help…they put warm wet towels on and a massage and a red healing light….then stretching exercises
