- This is the most in depth and longest video we have done so far, and it's over a topic that many always ask when it comes to modifying their VR30: What intakes should I get and do they offer any benefits?
We install and dyno test the two popular options out right now for our 2023 Nissan Z: the AMS Performance Cold Air Intakes and the Boosted 6 Autowerks Modular 2.5 - 3" Shorty Intakes. We compare them against each other and also against the stock intake system, and show you guy the results so we can have an in depth technical discussion about it.
Dyno graphs & logs of stock, AMS, and Boosted 6 intakes on our dyno:

Boosted 6 killing the game 🔥🔥🔥
Got damn you weren’t kidding when y’all said this was in depth! Time to bring out the popcorn 🍿
Sit back, relax, and enjoy us sweating our asses off for an hour 😂 Took us multiple days to put this together hope y’all like it!
Boosted6 and Dom saved my life 🙏🏽🙏🏽 I don’t know what I would do without them!
🙏🏼
Boosted 6 intakes did work and sound dope as hell 🔥🔥
The video we all needed, thank you my friends 🙏🏼
Great to see the comparison. Great indepth video with loads of info. You can really see Hussains passion and expertise. Like you said, the B6A intakes will make more of a difference with higher boost (ie upgraded turbos or Ethanol) and especially top end!
Very happy w/ the B6A 3” shorties , we are just about wrapped up w/ Alex in terms of dialing them in. We are looking to crack the 10’s in the 1/4 on my current E30 set up. Full weight & interior AWD Q60 RS 🚢 but she can move. Thank you Turbo P 🫡
Great info Bro, you definitely clarified some intake options for me. Keep up the great work
Got the Neon Chrome Boosted6 intakes, looks beautiful and sounds heavenly
Great video team Racebox .Man that Z looks great in that color 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you guys
We’re loving this color as well! Got some plans already for more cosmetics. 😮💨
Awesome Data and comparison. Thanx bro
Thanks y’all as always‼️ RB the 💯🌎
🫡🥰🥰
thx for your efforts, hard to argue with data.
Thank you for spending hours of your valuable time to make this video for us 🫡 🐐
Great video!!
Thanks daddio!
Great content, Thankyou 👍🏼
Thank for making this video, it help a lot on helping me choose which intake I want to go with! Could you make another video like this with each intake but with the car fully turned to see how much HP the car can really make with each intakes
That would be cool to do, we talked about this and more tests in our podcast. However it will take a considerable amount of work to do everything right and give each intake a fair comparison.
Great info, RB ❤
Hell yeah the data I’ve been waiting for, thank you! 🙏
Been looking for best bang for the buck intakes. Guess I'll be buying boosted 6 right now🤣
BMS inlets with the stock air intake boxes, would be interesting to see. Runs with stock paper vs dry filter and see if the numbers get closer to AMS, etc.
HARD. i just got my ams lower dp, bms heat exchanger and and prolly going to go with the 2.5 boosted 6 intakes then hopefully going to get tuned by you guys!
Nice I'm same set up just stick intakes right now making 460whp and 490 ft/lb on 93 !
@@DslowEatsaye who tuned u broooo
Based on the information in this video it’s a no brainer Boosted6auto is the way to go considering these are not finished tuned those shorties still have plenty of power still I have the shorties myself far superior intakes and low temps
😮Great info
Love my Boosted6 3" longtubes
How do they sound 😬
Now do a video we’re you adjust the tune for AMS and Boosted6 , fuel targets etc… if you would!!! Thx
Boosted6 ftw!
I always feel like the hood should be closed. The open filters would loose all their advantage. People don't drive around with their hoods open. Maybe take your hood off so you can run your hot air system and not be the so hot induction.
when you're going down the road with the shroud off they are still getting some fresh air, so this theory doesnt work.
@@TurboGSR96you run hotter IATs regardless on a open intake system in the real world on average you get less oxygen in as you pull hotter air after 2 pulls this engine gets hot and just because your driving doesn’t mean your going to get significantly cooler air. The AMS closed shroud design maximizes cooler air as a priority
🐐
Some hella good info! What are your thoughts a
On Z1 intakes? Same gains as AMS?
The Z1 intakes utilizes stock MAF housings, unlike the AMS with a 2.75” MAF housing. We would love to test them out though!
Can you explain the differences in the Z turbos and probably most recent RS400 turbos ? It’s pretty evident they’re better and last even WITH FLAMES
The Z turbos are smaller than the turbos in the Q’s, they spool quicker but also die out quicker compared to any Q50/60. However with the short gear ratios in the 9 speed trans we are able to stay in the powerband by short shifting.
damn thats a sick keyboard
Can you do a video on how you changed the MAF calibration, and all that process entails? I’m new to all this, and I’m looking at getting the AMS intakes. AMS’s website says no ECU tuning required but with the larger MAF housing I want to make sure I’m doing everything correctly.
While it’s true the AMS intakes with the 2.75” MAF housing doesn’t require a tune to run and fuel trims will be able to compensate for them, it is highly recommended to still get a custom tune and dial it in fully to get the most out of your intakes! You will only be able to do that with custom tuning, so feel free to contact us about tuning your VR30 🫡 (contact info in bio)
Sir, what do you think about the long tube boosted 6 ? Still good sound and should be colder temps then the shorties right?
does it matter with the hood up? Just thinking about under hood heat and airflow with the different designs between AMS & B6
Yes completely different IATS as the hood being up acts as ventilation for the open air intakes to take full benefit of sucking cold air , it’s only worth it if your a drag car a street car AMS is better as the open air ones suck hot air after 2 pulls with the hood down
Comparison of HPFP, Xtreme DI vs spool vs ams???
12:44
There is a pause in the rpm at ~6k rpm ....
Thanks for the info man, one question AMS with interchiller will be worthy or stock intercoolers with interchillers?
Absolutely, the Intercoolers will help bring the temps down even more!
Interchiller??, new mod?
hey racebox so I have ams intakes on my q currently, and im running e85 on stock turbos. Do u think the boosted 3 inch worth it over the ams?
Yes
How would these compare with the king tube intake w the filters that sit behind the grille??
Probably very similar to the SOHO front mount intakes we did on the Z, but we’ll see in the future maybe.
looking to build my q50 (my first build) what intake do you recommend. and exhaust. i was recommended by grade a garage to get invidia gemini but a lot of people tell me otherwise. lmk please!
Get whichever intakes u prefer. The best sounding exhausts in our opinion, r the Fast Intentions and Motordyne. There’s other good options too but it’s completely up to ur preference. The most important parts r getting a heat exchanger and lower/full downpipes.
Hey man, I can send you a video of my car if you want I have ams lower downpipes and and the invidia Gemini stock intakes if you want some sound clips lmk!
I was actually looking into purchasing hks blow off valves for my Q50 but you said that they cause problems can you explain that for me please and should I buy them im trying to build my car mainly for performance but I would like to hear cool noises as well.
SonicTuned has a good writeup online if you search.
All it does is make your car run rich for a very short time, which won,t cause any damage at all. However the problems occur if you install the Bovs wrong. Boost leak is very bad. I have them on mine( installed myself). It’s very difficult to install because the engine bay is tight, but install them yourself, the shop charges 600 dollars to install. I was able to install them in 5 hours with very minimal tools. I had to cut the top intercooler hose clamp because the screw was upside down and impossible to reach.
Z1 kit is very good, however keep in mind, you should get this mod last, you could get ams downpipes, and cold air intakes for the same amount as the blowoff valve kit.
My charge air temp is reading at (399) is my sensor having issues n need to b replaced?
Yes, sensor 💯‼️
Please do single exit vs dual.
If any companies wanna send us their dual exit to test and compare, we’re down. 👀
Do you have the regular AMS heat exchanger or the race one
There is only one version of the heat exchanger available from AMS for the RZ34, space is more limited up front than the Q50/60, but hopefully AMS can come up with a race version in the future!
Boosted 6 better get ready. Is your intake stock up?
Already back ordered 4 months
I plan on getting boosted 6 intakes for my q but i live in az. Its 100 out in october. Think id need a heat shield for the back side of the filters? I suppose it would be pretty easy to make them out of aluminum sheet... but then again its tight as hell in there and i dont want to block air flow. I got a good sized hx. Its frozen boost type 118. Thoughts on that?
Hey! We actually answered this question in our podcast! ruclips.net/video/ZqFLMbMBHg8/видео.htmlsi=eSvm3pV8MOvU_Nm3
But to summarize, cooler IATs mostly come from having a good heat exchanger (which u have), and upgrading the intercoolers. For your setup, I wouldn’t worry about having a heat shield for the intakes, they’re perfectly fine once the car starts moving and they get airflow!
where can I find a true 3in y-pipe?? please (18 Q50S)
We took pipes bought online to a fabricator and custom made everything 😅
what about the Nismo and Z1 intakes?
Sorry for the late response, but they’ll mostly perform similar to the AMS intakes since they’re similar design. Both of those intakes use the stock MAF housing size however, so no tuning is required to run them but a tune is always recommended to get the most out of any performance parts!
Would 4 inch single be better than 3inch single when it would come to a daily driver Q
If you’re referring to the exhaust, both will be fine for daily driving.
Depends on how much noise you want
So y’all are gonna be at z nationals?
That’s the plan! 😊
Is it unsafe to run the 2.5 inch Boosted 6 long tubes without tune?
The car will run but a custom tune is highly recommended!
So 2.5 boosted 6 inserts performs better than 3” boosted 6?
Nah, the 3” just needs a dialed in tune to fully benefit.
What’s the exhaust set up?
It’s got full 3” downpipe from DMS, and a custom 4” single exit!
👀
🫣
No FI inerchiller 🥶
We put it on right after this!
First
Man got in before 4K even processed 😂
lol 5th gear pulls.
Yes.
@@goracebox6th is the 1:1 for auto.
Yes because there's no reason to run the car out to 170mph, 130 in 5th is fine. Same with ZF8s, GM 8speeds, and the old Infiniti 7 speed.
