in 50 years of playing around with guitars I've never seen or heard anything like this. To get 6 strings to sound like an orchestra requires very inventive analysis of each part of the tune and really invent ways to create the sound. At first I thought it was trickery, the playing is so clean it really is unbelievable. The is world-class, self-taught, inventive guitar work that seems from a different planet. My goodness, this is exquisite playing. He should be interviewing agents. The very best I've ever seen. Totally different, TOTALLY DIFFERENT. WOW!
youve never heard of solo guitar? Joe Pass or Guy Van Duser?
@@Guitarista78 Maybe he hasn't.. This person may be a few decades older than you! - So go play your "stinkfist" somewhere else and let the rest of us enjoy extraordinary talent. 😡
@@lornestein7248 Not saying anything about the video except this is phenomenal playing. What does age have to do with this? Pass and Duser were both born before 1950. Solo guitar is very alive and has been for centuries.

My childhood friend and I used to listen to Tears For Fears going surfing in St. Augustine Fl. We spent lots of great times in the early 80s and he ended up dieing in a turbo prop plane crash while on a site seeing trip.
I was so upset and cried over my high school friend. One day, maybe 10 years after his passing I went into the Walmart while going boating. I see Jason's mom and she recognized me immediately and she ran and gave me a giant hug and cried on me. She knew how much we played together as childhood friends.
It was good to see her and I told her how sorry I was to hear of Jason's passing. His mom told me he always spoke of riding dirt bikes and having fun with me.
So......every time I hear Tears For Fears.......I am reminded of memories of two boys climbing trees, riding bikes, playing football, swimming in the creek, skipping stones, fishing and listening to TFF.......
Your song took me back to 1987-88 and I still get to think of my dear friend Jason. R.I.P........
Fuck man, that was hard to read. I can only imagine how hard it was to live. I'm sorry to hear about that. At least you have a way of reminiscing about the good times. I hear it said that people wish they would be told when they're in the good times before their gone, I think that's the beauty of life, we must treat every day like it's the good days. Stay strong brother.
Wow. So beautiful to have had a friend like that. He gave you lasting and loving memories. Music has such a way of transporting us back in time. God, we loose people so easily sometimes. They pirouette in and out of our lives. God bless them.
Thank you for sharing that, may your friend Rest In Peace.
Thanks for your story of Jason and the cherished memories that you shared. Music is our time machine, returning us to our youth. As if it were yesterday.
I teared up reading that. Cheers mate.
I’ve been playing guitar over 20 years . This sort of stuff is by far the best you can get out of an acoustic guitar. It’s outrageous how good this is . Super human
The rythm never stops, the bass never stops, and still manage to get all the melody and guitar solo in! AMAZING!
dtadeo2006 lol..... go figure
Guitar has six strings.
Guitarist has ten fingers.
Guitarist has the guitar outnumbered and surrounded.
Tommy Emmanuel would be impressed by this youngster. Well done.
Pure INSANITY
That boy good
That is insane. I'm still learning how to rub my belly and pat my head at the same time.
It's not your Belly you're rubbing though!
Mr. Moose, you win the comment of the week
Practice practice practice. Start simple and add complexity after you master the simple. For a real challenge, vary the direction that you are rubbing both your head and your belly. Then add a foot tap, then vary the foot tap. After that add a cluck with your tongue. Show this to friends and they will have you committed. It all starts with practice.

This legitimately one of the most beautiful renditions of any song I've ever heard
The thing I like about Kent is that the song comes first. He has incredible techniques, but he doesn't use them for the purpose of showing off. Just a very musical guy who happens to be one of the best out there!
Well said.
"Intro sounds good, but how's he gonna do they chor--wow, nice!. But surely the bridge will trip h--damn! Great stuff, but he probably forget this one subtle aspect of the song that I always--nope, there it is."
Mad respect.
HR Lincoln that’s what I was thinking too! What an awesome job!
I was thinking the same thing: "he's gonna punk out on the solo--holee crap he nailed it!"
Impressive.
HR Lincoln if you’re not a writer then you damn well should be. Funniest and most well composed post I’ve ever read. Summed up my reaction to the video perfectly.... well, apart from bits where I kept saying ‘holy fuck!’ 😊
HR Lincoln you summed up my exact thoughts lol
Cannot stop watching this. Every single nuance of the song is right here in his two hands.
Steven absolutely 👍
Not too much, not too little.
He did a great job !
Except every nuance isn't in his right or left hand it is a pre-recorded Loop or dubbed over. One just has to listen to the procussions on the guitar and strings being slapped.
I miss the shuffle rhythm from the bass/kick and the offbeat triplet hat. And the echo effect.
Not one note over played. Brilliant.
How is it possible that I've never heard Kent before now! I have been living under a rock!! Mind blowing talent!
And all his covers are at this level.
I came home from a very long, difficult day at work in a truly foul mood. A glass of red wine and before the first sip I found this. Pure bliss!!! 14 hours of stress and grief relieved in under four minutes! Pure magic!
Throckmorton, I’ll have what you’re having!
I also relieved 14 hours of stress in under 4 minutes but this is not how I did it.

I am a retired public school choral director. 30 years of teaching parts and dealing with accompaniments. I did my 5 to 6 years of playing bass in a band (we actually played gigs every weekend). I understand the complexity of music and how every musician has to do their part correctly or the music will fall apart. I just watch this with my jaw hanging low, "holy f*&k" whispered from lips and wanting listen to the original again to see if really did do all parts on one instrument. TRULY IMPRESSED
🤣I love your comment. Holy f*&k, indeed.

@Bob Lazar thanks for the insult I guess. Promise you I'm well aware or ,Atkins,Merle Travis and the like. I was simply amazed at the skill level of someone so young and that be was performing this style in contemporary music, some of which would be difficult with 5 musicians.
Yeah I think this is the new generation of guitar playing. I never thought that fingerstyle would evolve further like this. This kid is just so smart or maybe genuis I think or gifted. Whatever he is, He is extraordinary for me.

The fact he wears his jacket is like: 'come on Kent, play one more thing before you leave'
-Hmm okay but quick
😂
Now that's the level of talent that should be front and centre. It comes from years and years of practice, self-discipline, developing your skills, and then making it look all so easy. It's so on another level to most of what we see shared on RUclips and other Social Media, that is easy for the uninitiated to just scroll on by. No trickery, no clever editing, just an ultimate mix of talent, skill and musicianship. Thanks for sharing, Kent!
He makes it sounds like there are more than one guitar playing. Every notes is cleanly picked.
That's literally what fingerstyle is about

Absolutely right , I listen to this often and it’s like the best guitar piece I’ve ever heard . I just can’t see anyone topping this perfection
it's just a schtick. There is a lot of skill involved...but it annoys the crap out of guitar plyers. Everybody knew some guy in college who did this stuff. Then the rest of us would jam tf out while he went to the quad to play for girls. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!!! To each his Dulcinea.)
It's refreshing to see a young person embracing the classics and doing it so well.
He nailed every single tonal nuance in the entire song. Wonderful cover.
This is an outstanding arrangement, but the most mind-blowing part of this for me is how good the *groove* and *feel* is of his playing. It's one thing to be able to play all the notes, and it's another to play them in a way where people can't help but bob their heads and tap their feet. Bravo, dude.
Completely agree. A lot of times, I start watching these videos, and appreciate their skill, but get bored half-way through. Not this one! I just sat and listened.
So true, he is fantastic!
Yeah, it's the backbone of the song. To piece it all together is fantastic, great feel.

What applies to me does not apply to you. If you can play what this young man is playing in this video, you should be putting up videos because people will want to see it. People love to watch talented people do what they are good at. For your information, I started playing guitar at age 7 and I am turning 42 in November. You do the math! ✌️I don’t need to diminish anyone else to extend a compliment to the author of this video. I am always amazed at the ability of great finger stylists like this gentleman here. Being able to play all that on one guitar and do it flawlessly is mind boggling.
Excuse me a minute, … had to close my jaw, it's been hanging open for 4 minutes.
The most I could do with that guitar might be to hang it on a wall as an interesting décor. You, on the other hand, make it come alive, make it do what it's made to do. It's not as hard as it looks. Check out Don Ross and other proponents of piano style fingerstyle guitar playing. I'm 72 as well, but I started at 13 and along the way discovered Michael Hedges.
@@888kaddy It's more than technical and technique - there's an undeniable level of artistry and soul which can't be taught
hahaha lock jaw
It's called determination, dedication, focus and personal sacrifice. With those, you will conquer anything. Many hours, days and years of hard work and practice gets results. The majority of the world has varying degrees of ADD so we have no way of achieving this level of playing. To say this young man is gifted it's insulting to his dedication to learning the instrument. Gifted is something you get for little to no effort. I'm not seeing that here, just saying.
Imagine being at a party and this guy whips out a guitar and starts to play. Best party of all time.

I've seen and heard and followed some truly gifted players; Segovia, Al Dimeola, John Mclaughlin, Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, Jimmy Herring, Tony Rice, Etc.Etc.Etc., but this is the best I've seen. absolutely crushed it. reminded me of my love for this song
I've convinced myself that Kent is the main character of an epic anime.
He has a hidden sensei, a teacher that had a dream to combine the best finger style techniques and play them simultaneously, creating the ultimate guitar finger style ever to be seen in the world. But to learn the technique would require to completely unlearn the guitar, from the feel of the chords and scales to the flow of the strums and riffs.
The teacher searched high and low, and found no one worthy or capable of inheriting this new style. He had almost given up hope, and resigned that the style would only be in his dreams and never see the light of day, until one day he took a young child under his wing - Kent Nishimura.
This child was a rare talent. He could feel the rhythm. He could make the guitar sing. He could resonate completely, from soul to soul, to be truly one with the song. From an early age, he had mastered all the techniques of finger style, from intricate chucks and slaps, to precise pull offs and delicate tap harmonics. Then one day, the teacher gave him his last assignment, that if he could play it, he could officially surpass his sensei and become master.
4 pieces of music were in front of him, 4 different scores. "Play these all at once, using everything that you have learned" the teacher commanded. And then he was gone.
The difficulty! Just playing the first phrase, with the base and the voice together, was like nothing Kent had ever done before. He couldn't do it. He wanted to give up! But, that first phrase, when he played it, the music... it truly came alive. It filled the room and was like nothing he ever felt before.
Kent was moved by the music. He determined to go on, not for his own sake, but for the music's sake. He persevered, completing phrase after phrase, until one day, his teacher returned.
"Play this music for me."
And Kent played, and the music came alive. The notes danced off the sheets, and for one minute, the whole world was lost in the sound of it. A new style, the pinnacle of finger guitar, had been born.
A tear rolled down the teacher's cheek. His dream was complete.
Ahaha you went overboard with that 🤣. Like he's the Ichigo of guitar.
Man , I read it like a manga , epic
Oh my God cringe
And you Spencer, seem to have quite the gift of story telling. 🤣 Nice...
One Guitar Man!
All i can say about Kent is he's beyond AMAZING.
I’m in awe, with every new post ,but this has had me rewatch over and over .Thankyou Kent. I’m very glad you are so young ,many more performances.
Could listen to this all day.. even though the awareness of this kid’s skill-level is ruining my life
......just heard this, picked up my shitty nylon string, 🤔😯😑😕🙁😔😲😳🤯
.........& put the damn guitar down.😲
Mine too.. lol!
this is incredible! you’re playing the bass, rhythm, chords AND melody with one instrument and 2 hands 🤯 and it sounds so beautiful too, absolutely amazing talent
Holy cow. And he even puts in every single little flourish that Orzabal includes, including some that were known to be errors in the TFF original (such as at the end of the guitar-solo passage). KN does not miss a trick - literally.
This is the kid that inspired me to throw my guitar in the trash.
He should be the kid who inspires you to pick it up and enjoy it as you did the first time you banged out for favourite chord.
Have a thumbs up sir. Best comment here.
@@DB_Cooper. Mad love for all the money you took.
the only musician you should ever fear being better than, is the one you were yesterday
hahahah
Really impressive. Not only is it played perfectly, but there is a real groove, a feeling, and dynamics here, and that takes it to another level, well done.
Nik Gnashers exactly!
You just made us 80s baby's really proud...thank you 🙏 for covering one of our childhood theme...
This is amazing!
If there is a Heaven, it would only have Kent on a Chapman Stick forever.
