i was in high school when this album was released, this was played during our prom, it tears me everytime, 1985, high school best years of my life... wish i could turn back the clock, now im 50 years old, this song still rocks
I'm with you. As 1984 transitioned to 1985, I knew the year and the 80's in general were a special time. Can't explain how I knew, I could just feel it.
I was in 7th 8th grade. Jr high. Conniston middle palm beach Florida. I'm 48. This played at my 1st school dance. Parents dropping off at school after hours with friends. Truly the good old days
One of the quintessential 80s songs, if not THE quintessential 80s song. An instant hit on release, and still one of the best summer songs ever written.
As part of our honeymoon trip, my young English, music-loving wife and I drove across the US in a Renault Le Car in May 1985; that drive is absolutely and forever the flavor of this song, plus Phil Collins/Philip Bailey's Easy Lover, each on the radio about every half hour.
3.08-3.22 mins in, is one of the best keyboard/guitar intertweaning parts in commercial music ever recorded! One of my favorite 80s songs!! Magical times ❤
Whenever I hear this I feel like I'm in my dad's shoes back then. Feeling what he would have felt. Doing what he would have done. That's why it feels nostalgic to me. And I'm a '95 baby. I just really hope I've made everyone proud. And I hope I can be someone my kids look to for things, just like my parents were to me.
born in 1982 myself ..i remember this when i was a kid on the radio all the time ..that starting tune always gave me a chill . the fact that you listen to this at your age in respect for your father and charishing what it means should make any father proud... :D
i remember being a little kid reading my bmx magazines.. and this song playing on the radio. the nostalgia hits me right in the feels. heres to a great year 2022.
Same.... I remember my mother playing this in her Nissan Sentra after she graduated college. It was the 90's but still gave me this nostalgic feeling as a child that always brings me to a feeling of teas from this song. I guess their name is fitting 🙌
Right, that's why I have alot of songs from b4 I was born in my main playlist, mostly from the 1980s, I'm tired of all these phone music and random ugly sounding rapping, I love electro music and electro swing but the ones they made this year sounds so bad, also, I'm glad there are some artists I can count on to make good music, like Laufey and Mitski AND BEABADOOBEE
And nobody listening to the actual lyrics, which are depression and forecasting of the horrible capitalist society we are in right now. Power, absolute power, its a terrible thing. All for freedom and for leasure, nothing ever lasts for ever. everybody wants to rule the world. We are cattle.
Let me sum up the 80’s music this way, I’m a black guy who grew up in that era and I can’t cap, there was some great 80s rock and soft pop songs that I used to rock all the time. Tears for Fears was one of my favorite as well as Journey. I can remember cruising down Crenshaw Blvd in my 240z blasting their songs on the radio. That’s how much I loved 80’s music. Howard Jones, Madonna, Expose, etc…I could go on and on. But i can’t help waxing nostalgic when listening to these classics. I mean just the best cruising music ever. That’s what made driving so fun back then. It didn’t matter where you were going. Just pop in your favorite cassette and enjoy the ride. I’m glad I got to experience it firsthand.
I can't relate to the California part of your life, because I've never been there, but as a black man born in 1980 I grew up with this. I was exposed to this sound thanks to my mother's tastes in music, so this feel good music was felt in North Carolina. This group, and many others from the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s get plenty of rotation in the car to this day.
I’m a 49 year old brother in Houston who did the same exact thing. MTV had straight hood dudes knowing every lyric to rock n pop songs lololl and what I didn’t find on MTV I’d discover at AstroWorld… Golden times man

This is one of the BEST songs EVER created! It NEVER gets old or where you don't want to hear it. Every single time it comes on the radio, even now, I smile and end up singing along! 🥰🥰🥰🥰👍
Yes I agree! I've been on an 80's kick lately - reminds me of growing up. I was born in 1977, so the 80's were literally the decade where I remember (most) of my first experiences in life. Here I am now, closing in on 45, wondering where all the time went? Wondering why it seems to go by faster and faster every year!
“Welcome to your life, there’s no turning back...” is the opening line of this pop masterpiece, a profound lyric. A song that makes me self-reflect. Once you’re here, you’re stuck with the life you’re given. So accept your fate. This is the message I got out of the song. We all live our lives in competition, competing with one another on who can be more dominant, more powerful, not realizing that power comes with grave responsibilities, and that people in power can lead lives of misery as they are subject to hate, envy, and scrutiny. Despite those truths, everybody still wants to rule the world. We never learn.
You are not stuck in this life; don't be myopic !! Listen to the song again for the lyrics, "help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure." Love your life to the hilt cuz there is no turning back...That's the real message !
This song brings tears to my eyes when I was in high school it’s just a beautiful song that really hits you in the heart. It reminds me of old times and friends it’s such a beautiful song God bless us all
This is one of the rare songs where I instantly get hit with nostalgia whenever I hear it. That feeling of being taken back to a time where I was a kid with no cares of world and was just enjoying life is a wonderful feeling to remember.
This took me back to me being nine years old, walking a mile to school with my cousin and his friends, stopping by a convenience store to buy Now and Laters on the way, and actually learning in school…free from SOLs and censorship. Then come home, do my homework, go outside, and play in the ply ground, room through the words, and live in a world of innocence and imagination until it got dark. Dinner was ready when you walked through the door, my mom and I are dinner together at the table, and then watch some tv shows or a movie. The news came on at 10 (or 11 depending on the channel), and then the National Anthem played with patriotic landmarks and figures in background. When it ended, the channel went blank or static would appear so that you were forced to read or go to bed on time. There were no forms of social media, online influencers, dark webs, Kartrashians, focus on fake body parts, profanity in rap/hip hop, love songs that actually uplifted and focused on connecting with your partner, music was much better because the artist were ACTUAL musicians and gave real concerts. GenXers were independent, yet able to enjoy our childhood. We explored the world, and appreciated what we had around us. We were resourceful, and learned how to protect ourselves WITHOUT the use of lethal weapons. It was time of Mcgyver on tv making science look cool, Knight Rider, Dallas, Falcon Crest, Punky Brewster, We bster, Silver Spoons, Cosby Show, 227, A Different World, Star Search, Solid Gold, and Soul Train. There are so many other brilliantly written shows from that decade to name. Maybe one day, just one, we can pretend to experience this again.
Over 226 million views and nearly 4 decades later, "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" has stood the test of time. The 80s maybe gone but will forever live on in our hearts and memories.
Honestly, this song makes me hurt inside. That feeling of wanting to relive my childhood and wanting to go back, but not being able to. Probably because I lost my brother a while back, so this make me think of him. I miss this era with every fiber of my being sometimes 🥺
Ever feeling hopeless?.. I do sometimes. This song just reminds me of staying present, enjoying my day to day life, monotony, work, bills, all other gnarly stuff that I sometimes gotta force myself to do. But just look at these young lads singing their hearts out back in the 80’s, time is precious and ruthless, they are both over 60 now. Don’t forget to nourish yourself, don’t forget to take care of your loved ones, show up for yourself and everyone around you daily. If you are not happy with current situation and want to push blame to someone, I encourage you to take action and do it yourself what you expect from others - because at the end of the day it feels good. Stay blessed people and value time in present. Afternoon of 29/02/2024.

Bob - Curt is not gay. Just because they do charity work and play concerts for those who are, doesn't mean they are. Maybe you got them confused with PSB (another great 80's band) !
I heard this song when I was 6 or 7 years old. I really liked her, but I couldn't find her. And now, at 14, I've got over 20 songs from this cool band.
Agreed!! Makes you think about when things where so much more simple and the world was a better place. Also I think about dennis miller live lol! Since he used this song for is shows intro.
I was near the end of to high school when this came out. A brilliant band with an impeccable ear for a hook. I always thought that no matter the music, there was always a deep tinge of sadness to all their songs. I think it just makes them all the better.
Without a doubt! I'm 51 and this song was huge when I was a teenager. I don't give a damn whose around when I hear this song, gonna blast the volume. The emotions that I feel when I hear this song are all so powerful.

Dude, I’m graduating In a few weeks, and listening to this song hits like a truck when you think about all those years in school, all those friends you never saw again and the ones that you will never see again after graduation, truly a wonderful experience
I graduated last year and did a slow walk to my car after leaving school for the final time, this playing in my ear and the wind blowing my hair around was truly chill inducing. As I opened my door that break in the music as it starts to hit the key notes as I slowly drive away was a memory I will never forget. I hope you have a great graduation!

Same here! My Dad listened to it when he was teenager, now i‘m 16 and listen to it even with my friends over here in Germany. He grew up in NH and rather listened to the groove rock from the hippy time (Grateful Dead an such). Of coure he also listened to the 80‘s pop, and especially to this! And so did my mom who grew up in Western Germany. Everytime this song comes up we all feel it and sing along. This song is just a great vibe! And even nicer to see that everybody has a story with this song, isn’t it?

I feel the same - but still can’t put my finger on why exactly that is the case. As someone being born in 89 I still think it was a truely unique episode of time with such a huge impact on so many people.
I was born in 91 and i heard this song as a younnng child, and it’s always brought me comfort. Like i wanted to be in the time period this was made. I love this song 😭
So lucky to be born in the 60s. Idolized the 60s, nostalgic for the 70s, teenager in the 80's, came into maturity in the 90s. 4 decades of great music we may never see again in our lifetimes.
As someone born in the 90's with deep musical roots due to my upbringing: I can't agree with you more. 60's - 90's music is quite possibly the best there ever will be in the foreseeable future
Alors ça c'est certain, la musique aura été de Jean-Sébastien Bach jusqu'à Coldplay. Après se sera le néant jusqu'à ce que le capitalisme s'écroule et que la musique redevienne un art et non une industrie source de profit
This has to be the most nostalgic song period. Makes me feel all sorts of emotions at the same time, mainly sadness. The message is clear, intentions of the human race are all the same and every decision made is to satisfy our impending thought of perishing. Live life while you have it! Here one day and gone the next. LOVE AND PEACE TO ALL XX

England has always had the best bands in the world period 👍🇬🇧
The whole album had some great songs.
3.08-3.22 mins in, is one of the best keyboard/guitar intertweaning parts in commercial music ever recorded! One of my favorite 80s songs!! Magical times ❤
This song will never fade away. The tune, the rifs, the lyrics, that time of life....
let me tell you the bass riff D 0--00-0--0 the 85 percent of the song is boring to play this song but sounds nice

Awww driving down Crenshaw Blvd and the music... the memories!! Your comment brought me back to those days.

Ok
The song reminds you of grave responsibilities? LOL !! Make the right choice cuz there is no turning back is the real message ! 😍🤗

Jesus loves you alot trust in His death 4 salvation and be saved from eternal hell
o yıllarda gençtim o yılların ruhunu bu şarkıları dinleyerek yakalarsın. belki teknoloji fazla gelişmemişti ama insanlık arkadaşlık en üst düzeydi.
@@alligator5890 yep definitely
I feel the same - but still can’t put my finger on why exactly that is the case. As someone being born in 89 I still think it was a truely unique episode of time with such a huge impact on so many people.
this music makes me thrill
It's about human failure saved by God. They sang it then but we need it now. Prophetic...
I was born in 91 and i heard this song as a younnng child, and it’s always brought me comfort. Like i wanted to be in the time period this was made. I love this song 😭
Well, if you live in 3rd world country, 90s feels like the 80's
Literally ever time I hear this song it sounds like I’m listening to it for the first time. It’s indescribable ✨
What the hell. Yo I think you just described it for me ... wow , feel like I needed to know this . THATS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL
It never gets old
와! 이 노랜 대박!😮😮😮

I was born late 50's but you've nailed it there
Alors ça c'est certain, la musique aura été de Jean-Sébastien Bach jusqu'à Coldplay. Après se sera le néant jusqu'à ce que le capitalisme s'écroule et que la musique redevienne un art et non une industrie source de profit
FACT
FACT !!!!
I can listen to this song a million times!! I always want to hear it over and over again
This is one of those songs that you can classify as timeless
Song is just timeless. Perfect while driving to free yourself from stress and worries.

On God!❤️💙🙏
The toilet war endures
@MJM absolutely timeless!!!
One of the best songs ever and still pumping it loud in September 2021.....LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Right along with you
Me too!
Same here 🤜🏼
Word!!
Yessir my birthday is in the days~ I’ve been waiting for this moment for a..year
This has to be the most nostalgic song period. Makes me feel all sorts of emotions at the same time, mainly sadness. The message is clear, intentions of the human race are all the same and every decision made is to satisfy our impending thought of perishing. Live life while you have it! Here one day and gone the next. LOVE AND PEACE TO ALL XX
Well said. On multiple levels...
I bet you this was mostly a message to the USA and USSR to not have a nuclear war
Man well said, amen.
