OMG that military discount one makes my skin crawl. When I was in the military, my wife worked at Olive garden, and without fail they were always the worst tippers. And look, I get it, I never had a lot of money while I was in the military, but guess what? I just wouldn't go and eat out. If you can't afford things, you don't expect people to cave just because you are in the military. Businesses would never survive if they caved all the time. I always appreciate when a business offers a discount for military, but honestly I don't even ask. Usually my wife or whoever I'm with asks instead. I just don't feel entitled to someone else's hard work because of what I do for a living. It doesn't even make sense if you think about it.

how do businesses survive when they do this all the time?
When I worked as a sales associate (Basically I had *some* control in prices to try and get people to buy.), and the business didn't offer a military discount option on our discount section. When I see people who served, or informed me, I would try to give them a deal. The thing is we also did notaries and livescans (basically state set fees that I could not give discounts under any circumstance) I got insulted and even threatened by people because I wouldn't break the law for them.

Let alone demand discounts like that. I don't know why people feel so entitled to stuff that isn't theirs. So what if you served in the military, I did too. That doesn't mean I should automatically get discounts everywhere I go. I really think it's odd. If people are wanting to give discounts because it's their way of showing appreciation, that's totally fine. Good on them. But damn, small businesses usually struggle enough as it is, they shouldn't be guilted into discounts, and veterans and active duty should never demand them. Coming courtesy and common sense really

I have never asked for a military discount. I do have one with lowes, and a few local small businesses I frequent. But those are because the owners know me and know I was in. They have had their employees add the discount even if i argue with them... so with those places I have given up on and just say "thanks".

That cosplay one got me so heated. Cosplay is such an expensive labor of love, and to try and force someone into a cosplay they don't want to do, that's just insane.

I never think that my choice to join the military entitles to a discount, it's nice if you are buying a car, but i feel bad to make a McDonald's employee do more work

Honestly I think it's to convince people that they're not spending as much as they are. It's a manipulative marketing tactic and it makes no sense unless you think like a corporate scumbag. Idk why their aren't regulations on it, but it's America, so the consumers aren't important enough I suppose.

The veterans discount one really pissed me off. As both a veteran and a waiter, the worst examples of our "brothers in arms" are those that feel entitled because of it. Real veterans (or just the ones worth their honor) don't play that game. Many don't even WANT their discounts. I LOVE to serve those that get what service is all about. The giving, not the getting.

as a cosplayer cosplay is HECCA EXPENSIVE, majority of my wigs are in the $20-$30 range, and costumes online are around $90-$200 and if you make them from scratch fabric is also hecca expensive-

OMG! That last story totally happened to me once at an airport! I grabbed some lunch during a layover and the restaurant was pretty crowded. It was one of the nicer airport places where they seat you and bring you your order. I was alone and had just gotten my meal from the waitress, along with a beer, and was seated at a four person table when two people asked if they could sit. I said sure. I usually make random short term friends during layovers so was glad for the company. They sat down and ordered. Then two other people, apparently traveling with them, came over and pointed out I said they could sit. I was like, um, no. I said they could sit. They had the nerve to call over my waitress to ask I be made to leave. Now I'm clearly outnumbered as there are three of them seated while the fourth hovers over me in a mildly intimidating fashion. Needless to say the waitress sided with me. They got up and left but let me know through unpleasant eye contact what they thought of me for being so very rude (note: I don't actually feel I was the rude one here) Later, on my way out, I noticed all four of them crammed into a two person table with a ton of carry-ons. Serves the first two right for trying to take advantage of my kindness.
