      @@Manganization - The only explanation I can come up with, is that the Qilin bowed to Dumbledore because he is the main character and had good intentions at that very moment. Since, the entire point of his character is that he is Machiavellian. Plus, he literally does not even defeat Grindelwald for another 13 years.

      Her whole thing was she's in love with a mundane but relations with mundanes is illegal. Grindelwald then makes a rousing speach in the second film and mentions this very thing in passing but coming off as though he disapproves of the government's mandate to marginalize people's choices in relationships.
      So Queenie signs up with him thinking he's got the power to change this law so she can be with her mundane boyfriend without being arrested. There's also that whole thing with her having trouble with her legilimancy and Grindelwald promising to help while also looking to use her gift for himself, naturally.
      And that's pretty much Queenie's motivations in this anthology.

      @@meganparrish807 you've done a better job rooting through the nonsense than the movie did in explaining it. Grindelwald is openly, joyously anti Muggle. One passing reference to maybe changing segregation versus his constant "muggles are garbage, amiright?" doesn't work for me as sufficient motivation for a character of even room temperature IQ to believe he'd be ok with wizard muggle relationships. So a) she's deeply stupid or b) the script is lazy or c) both. I lean to c.

    My biggest issue was that stupid blood pact that completely erased a major part of Dumbledore's character: in the 7th book Dumbledore specifically said that the reason why he didnt fight Grindelwald earlier was because he was so afraid of the truth about his sister's death. He let people die and suffer because he kept avoiding the fight out of that fear. The blood pact takes completely away that character flaw, by retconning the reason for why Dumbledore didnt stop Grindelwald before. Its like they had to suddenly make Dumbledore the best pure person ever again for these movies, when one of the major points of the last book was that in the end he WASNT one.

It meant that even though we have our flaws, we can do better and do what is right at the end.

Sometimes it's a creature in danger of extinction that needs to be found and saved, sometimes it's a legend Newt wants to prove really exists, sometimes a super important creature to a culture that's stolen by poachers and Newt saves it. They missed the payoff with Jacob been the pure of heart, and they failed every setup with the dude who betrayed but didn't really betray (google tells me his name is Yusuf Kama).
      Like, he goes to Grindelwald, he tells him that he is there to spy on him, but that he also supports him, they confirm this with mindreading. So Grindelwald removed the memories of Yusuf being angry at him, so he has no reason to betray.... and then he betrays anyway.... like... what? Why?

    I'm gonna say the exact same thing i said about the other fantastic beasts movies: This movie would be about a million times better if it actually was about, you know, fantastical beasts. Seriously, why the need to put a discount voldemort into those movies? Just have it be newt going around researching about fantastical beasts and gently educating his fellow wizards about them. And if you absolutly need some anatgonists have it be some crime syndicate hunting down those fantastical beasts to sell their parts or something like that.

      The fact that Dumbledore did some sketchy stuff *in the past* doesn't mean he can't be pure of heart in the present.
      This also adds to the pain Dumbledore must be in because he is presented with empirical evidence that he is a good person yet he still can't bring himself to accept that as the case because of the guilt of what he has/might have done in the past.
      I think the reason Dumbledore brought Jacob to begin with was because he thought it would bow to him, but was surprised and confused when it chose him instead.

    • @Not_Quite_My_Tempo
      @Not_Quite_My_Tempo 2 года назад +5

      Yeah because that premise only made sense for barely a stand-alone little movie. Or a TV series with a completely different vibe where we follow the guy around the world finding creatures and having fun little adventures.
      I mean, if she wanted to make movies about the Dumbledore - Grindelwald conflict, then she should've have started with that.
      Now it feels like an afterthought as if she run out of material and didn't know what else to do, probably because she run out of material and didn't know what else to do.

    • @Codraroll
      @Codraroll 2 года назад +5

      It doesn't feel much like a premise anymore. The franchise was hijacked by Grindelwald in the first movie, relegating the fantastic beasts to the background. Now they're essentially meaningless single-scene setpieces mandated by a checklist, because it's too late to remove the "fantastic beasts" thing from the title of the series. The fantastic beasts aren't even that relevant to the plot for the most part, most of them are featured in one scene and then promptly forgotten.
      *sigh*. I think there would have been great potential in making this franchise a bit like Indiana Jones, with each movie featuring Newt on a completely stand-alone adventure centered around a different beast in a different part of the world. For extra spice, they could have collaborated with the local film industry of the country in question to flesh out how the Wizarding World works in that country, and maybe featured some local movie stars in prominent roles. It would have been a great way to expand the franchise without bogging the series down in continuity traps.

    Yeah when that deer kneeled in front of Dumbledore all I could think is "BULLSHIT!" Dumbledore openly acknowledged that he longed for power and stopped himself from achieving it multiple times because he didn't trust himself, even in his old age. No way that the Dumbledore of this time frame is pure of heart. That deer needed to kneel before Jacob.
    This movie feels so out of left field that I cannot believe this was the original plan. The last movie had Grindelwald convincing people that Muggles needed to be ruled for their own good and he didn't hate them and that the goal was for wizards to not need to hide from the Muggles (in line with how he and Dumbledore discussed taking over the Wizarding World), and now suddenly he's openly declaring war on them and calling them abominations? Queenie's motivations for following him don't add up with what was established in the last movie. , Credence being Aberforth's son is way too out of nowhere (I was convinced that Credence was actually Arianna's Obscurial that had attached to Credence, which would have had enough clues but wouldn't have been an easy twist to figure out), the back story with Arianna should have had at least 10 more minutes, maybe a few flashbacks GIVEN THE FACT THAT THE MOVIE IS CALLED SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE AND SHE WAS HIS BIGGEST SECRET
    People can have their opinions on Rowling as a person or whatever; she is smarter than this, and has proven that she can write twists that had proper build up so they felt natural but also weren't too obvious, so I cannot believe that these "twists" are what she originally intended. It really does feel like someone else was brought in to write this third movie

    • @iRazenrak
      @iRazenrak 2 года назад +9

      @@ArnisKaye if the only problem was that it was the wrong format, then the movie's only problem would've been improper pacing and too much dialogue. That's what happens when an author turn a book directly into a movie.
