    The actual monster apocalypse seems like a more interesting plot than what this movie decided to show.

    This is why I prefer the Monsterverse. It's different yes, but it still treats the likes of Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah, and Kong as how they're supposed to be treated: with respect.

      Couldn't Agree more, Legendary's Monsterverse is Amazing despite only 3 films made into it thus far, I'm calling it that the New "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" film is going to be Amazing in every Giant monster movie way. And the execution of it all since "Godzilla 2014" has been nothing short of spectacular.

      Dude, the concept of humans communicating with and controlling the monsters is a concept taken from various points in the franchise. IT. IS. NOT. A. NEW. CONCEPT. Also, the military isn't being led by Godzilla, they're just joining him to fight Ghidorah because, I don't know how to put this... GHIDORAH IS A LIVING EXTINCTION EVENT FROM OUTER SPACE. Chances are, Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and humanity are gonna take heavy offense to the fact a three-headed, genocidal, space dragon wants to wipe out all life on Earth.

    I hated how they treated Rodan and Anguirus, showing only their skeletal remains. Two of the most iconic momsters Toho ever made treated like props. They could have at least showed them doing something, instead of showing the skeleton of a regular Pteranodon and a fragment of a crocodilian jaw.

    The movies are just so much wasted potential. Why make Godzilla into an anime, without any limitations, and make Godzilla stiffer than ever and give him the least screentime in the whole franchise and have 95% of the time humans making plans and walking around? Godzilla gets shot at most of the time and occasionally attacks. Why make a nanometal T-1000/ T-3000 style Mechagodzilla with a design and concept art and not use it? Why not morpg the city into a gigantic Mechagodzilla. Why don‘t they use more unique creatures inhabitating monster planet and use them, instead of just give them 10 second action scenes which go nowhere? The planet feels empty and looks boring. It feels lazy and without ideas. It has so much buildup, yet no payoff and it goes nowhere. By far top 5 least favorite Godzilla movie material. Shin is great though and my favorite of the new Godzilla movies as of now.

      I feel it could've been better if they'd just made an anime series instead of a trilogy of films. Maybe with more screentime things like this wouldn't be as half baked. Maybe, that is. It could still have easily been bad if they made it a series.

    • @nexusshark
      @nexusshark 6 лет назад +2

      I agree completely. The characters of this trilogy are the only thing that keep me interested at this point, but the rest is just so boring and wasted potential. Frankly this doesn't even need to be a Godzilla movie.

    • @Godzillakingofkaiju1

      I think it would've been better if they used the Nanometal around MechaGodzilla's head and had them fighting Godzilla as a distraction while they try to rebuild Mecha-G. Then, the movie ends with MechaGodzilla fully repaired and roughly Godzilla's size about to do battle with the monster it was created to fight against.

      David Matta Glad someone else sees it! I kinda enjoyed attack on titan but Eren does have a few stereotypical protagonists tropes found in many other anime. The main character (who I can not even remember his name) in Godzilla is, sadly, no different.

    • @SilentZombie
      @SilentZombie 6 лет назад +6

      Then you have the added trope of, he wants revenge, fine, but doesn't want to get his hands dirty doing it. Just about everyone else with him, after he convinces them to stay, is willing to sacrifice themselves, for the most part, in order to destroy Big G. But when it comes down to it and his anime girlfriend is put in danger even though she's willing to do it until the hidden under plot is revealed that they have to give themselves to the nanometal, he chickens out and tries to act moral about it.

We get to see a movie where Godzilla has already won and we actually get to see the consequences. I like seeing an Earth overrun by monsters. Problem is: THERE’S NO FUCKING MONSTERS, AND THE TITLE MONSTER IS IN TWO MINITES OF THE MOVIE. I think the concept is brilliant. The execution? Mediocre.

    Actually the reason Godzilla is a plant is to justify him as the ultimate form of life. He's an angry redwood with the mindset of a vine-get to the top.

      Probably to shut up anyone who says "Oh Godzilla can't exist so this movie sucks" like Shin Godzilla tried doing as well. From a scientific stance, it could be brilliant, but as a change in narrative I understand why you see it as unfit.

      Omni Viewer The reason Godzilla Earth is a plant is because he is based on the world tree of Norse mythology. Just as the "realms" of Norse mythology are on branches of the world tree, the earth practically revolves around Godzilla. However, I will agree the anime trilogy was disappointing.
      Also Shin Godzilla is a more realistic version of how would the Japanese government react to Godzilla suddenly showing up and wreaking havoc. Honestly if you still don't like Shin Godzilla or (somehow like) the anime trilogy, that's fine. You are entitled to an opinion and I have mine. Let's just all agree Godzilla: King of the Monsters looks amazing.

    I completely agree, I thought Planet of the Monsters was okay, but I was really disappointed with this 2nd film. At the end when Godzilla destroyed mechagodzilla city I was hoping for a new upgraded mechagodzilla to rise up out of the flames and have an actual kaiju battle for once... but no. The movie just ends. I also saw the whole Ghidorah thing coming a mile away, it didn’t send chills down my spine or get me excited, I sighed in disappointment. Why are they going to make a film using the same two kaiju they always do especially when we’re getting an American take on those same kaiju at the the same time!? If they replaced Ghidorah with, say, spacegodzilla. Give him a new backstory and make him the final enemy for the third one then that would get me excited, but they decided to play it safe. I look at these films and all I see is waisted potential, let’s hope the monsterverse can still be good.

    The Anigoji series is just so disappointing to me, they have all these cool ideas like a planet that Godzilla won, some awesome and older kaiju being brought into the spotlight, the affects on humans being stuck in space for so many years, but it just doesn't do anything with them. I wouldn't say i disliked them but they were just so bland to me, and a lot of people said "oh well it's just the first part of a trilogy, it'll get better" But look at things like the classic Star Wars, they were 3 movies but the characters went through arcs and changes in each one.

    I don't necessarily agree that it's a failure, as I did enjoyed the 1st one and the city on the edge of battle I haven't seen yet. Plus I think the biggest problem with this series is how it skims over alot of compelling and interesting world building, as it doesn't reach its ideas to the max. I would have liked planet of the monsters to be set during the kaiju apocalypse, showing us how these creatures took over and the big last stand against Godzilla, but all of that is skipped to the main story. It is almost like final wars where it has a bunch of monsters but it doesn't know what to do with them, as many of them don't get that much screen time and focus. Well i'ma go see city on the edge of battle to see if I agree or disagree with everyone

    The idea of mechagodzilla being a city is amazing. The concept of a colossal robot being a city has been execuded perfectly transformers with characters like Metroplex, Trypticon, Fortress Maximus etc. I'm amazed that this concept failed so miserably in the film. Come to think of it thr anime trilogy is the equivalent to the Transformers Prime Wars trilogy; a web exclusive trilogy of poorly written stories with bad voices and animation but together.

  • @ctaco5112

    I actually had my own idea of how the anime trilogy should be:
    What if there were other monsters ruling the earth besides Godzilla and each one terraformed their own territory. However, they all want to expand it and are in a constant battle in an ever changing environment. The main conflict for the human would have to be planning which monster they would need to eliminate first.

    Has anyone noticed TOHO lied about SpaceGodzilla & Hedorah being in the last film a year ago. Plus Godzilla has actually had Anime before. And also the novels sound WAY more interesting and cool like with a monster apocalypse, an organic Gigan, and many interesting reimagining of kaiju. TOHO could have gone with a Shin Godzilla sequel or prepare with the new Godzilla universe but no they went with this. Plus the anime can't even make up with character. • @thenumbah1birdman
      @thenumbah1birdman 6 лет назад +2

      The issue being that if Monster X existed in this universe,
      1. There would be 2 Ghidorahs, and it would be weird to have the most powerful known Ghidorah killed that easily
      2. Monster X hasn't appeared in any of the trademarking for the films or the novels, and if Ghorath was indeed monster X then there's no point in hiding it like they did with Ghidorah, seeing as Ghidorah was COTEOB's big reveal.
      3. Monster X has appeared only once with Ghorath out of the 2 times Ghorath has been featured in Toho media.I feel that whatever's inside Ghorath is pretty free to interpretation.
      Of course, this being Gen Urobatchi, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out "Ghidora" is the Exif word for SpaceGodzilla and the three golden energy beams on the poster are in fact his corona beam. Unlikely, but imagine the mindfuck that would cause. almost as much of a mindfuck as the entirety of Evangelion or BOLKKY BOII Shin.

Shin represents the 2011 disasters in Japan (Earthquake, Tsunami and Fukushima) and thus, the movie portrays him as the original did; As a force of nature. I honestly don't know what you want from it. Godzilla isn't just about fighting monsters and being "cool" you know?

    Not gonna lie the anime characters are probably the worst among the two films because it honestly kinda feels you like watching a bunch of idiots on planning an attack against an famous character. not to mention they're also uninteresting (not Godzilla) escpecially the main character he's the reason why they got defeated by Godzilla at the first film and he's also the most idiot among the characters the only thing that is on his mind revenge, revenge against The King of Monsters (These anime characters are disrespecting the famous Kaiju of all time!). By the way, in the finale of the 2nd movie, when Godzilla successfuly destroyed the city I think it would be epic if an 300m Kiryu bursts out of the flames and fights him.... no there's no 300m Kiryu in that scene the film just annoyingly ends and that's it but for me the ending is ok for me though because when Godzilla wins he reminds me of Thanos from "Avengers: Infinity War" where Thanos also successfuly wins at the end but still the 2 films kinda makes an dissapointment to the fans especially the anime characters (you know what let's just wish that all of them got killed by Godzilla because there's no hope for them anyway) I almost forgot, the only thing that makes the characterization of Godzilla is also kind of a failure too because he's not like Lengendary Godzilla (Godzilla 2014) who mostly can move his body swiftly and normally now this anime Godzilla only does this in the 2 film he just walks forward and really slow, strike his Atomic Breath, Roar in anger, walk, strike, roar that's all he does he doesn't pretty much do anything not to mention that he only stands like a gigantic statue at most parts of the film and they kinda also mockingly changed the characteristics of the King of Monsters they made his characterization into a kaiju half plant and it is said that when humans are still not existing Godzilla buried himself into the earth and made all of the life forms on earth.... this change is shit Godzilla element in the film should be an Element of the Atomic Age not a creature giving birth to anything. also if the MechaGodzilla city is new... why the buildings cannot turn into 300m MechaGodzillas to give the King of Monsters an overwhelming defeat and attack him and destroy him completely?!!!? what a failure film. I think it would be better if Mothra made her appearance in the climax and fight the King of Monsters. you know what... we gotta all agree that the 2 anime films were a failure to the fans but even tho Godzilla sucked at the anime films but still.....

    Agree to disagree. I thought it was awesome and a great modern reinterpretation of Godzilla and its various themes and tropes. The twin girls were clearly a reference to the Mothra girls. The aliens were in keeping with Showa-era Godzilla aliens and showed that all intelligent races were, like humanity, doomed to be destroyed by the monsters they created by abusing the earth. This new Godzilla is the ultimate embodiment of that concept, a literal force of nature which causes the entire planet to move on without humanity in its evolution. It had the best artistic direction, the most unique designs, and the most creative and well thought out plotline. Its prologue has amazing prequel potential and is fascinating to think about. It's an Elseworlds/What If scenario that works on its own merits, but if you try to compare it with all the things it ISN'T, then you'll be disappointed.

      Thank you. There's no good trying to compare what this movie is to something that it's trying to differentiate from. That's how you keep a franchise from going stale. The AnimMechaGoji is trying to be different from the same IMO generic MechaG design that we've had so far. It looks different and unique, and it's sheer craziness in design is what makes it standout as a monster. You can't really say "because it's chibi toy was made horribly, means it's an overall bad monster".

    The only Godzilla movies I truly hate, they are poorly made and they aren't even bad in a way that's it enjoyable.
    These movies have REALLY good concepts and ideas but waste the fuck out of it. All the cool shit happens off screen and there's never a goddamn payoff. The intro scene to the first movie should have been the whole fucking movie, we should have gotten to see the world taken over by the Kaiju, we should have seen the humans making their desperate escape.
    The second movie is just a joke, worst Godzilla movie ever made. They used MG's name simply for marketing, if we were just gonna see Godzilla fighting an AI then there was no point to call it MG, they did that because they knew if they didn't that nobody would fucking care. I mean shit....we don't even see Mechagodzilla in action literally at all, SO WHATS THE POINT!!??!
    And the third movie? I don't give a fuck, I grantee KG isn't even gonna show up until the last 15 minutes and the fight itself will probably just be Godzilla and KG staring at each other.
    I MEAN FOR FUCKS SAKE!! HOW DID THEY FUCK THIS UP SO BAD? HOW DID THEY WASTE SO MUCH POTENTIAL AND GOOD IDEAS? HOW DID THEY THINK ANY OF THIS SHIT WAS A GOOD IDEA?
    One more thing....I would prefer that we see a Godzilla anime done with traditional 2D animation.

    This entire video is really pushing it, because most Zilla movies don’t have good character development, most are not original, most don’t have the best quality and most repeat the same origin story.
    So what if he’s a Plant?
    So what if Mechagodzilla looks different? Design is something that isn’t objective - as far as I’m concerned I like the design.
    The only issue I have with this series so far is that there hasn’t been a monster on monster fight. That’s literally the only thing I can see that bothers me. But Godzilla here does feel like a force of nature. As he was originally intended. He’s not some dumb character, his job is to be a terrifying obstacle which represents something that humans have to deal with. That’s how it was in the very first film. And you’re like seriously calling yourself a fan of the series? Boy you’re just mad this isn’t like every other Godzilla movie.
    This series is pretty decent and refreshing. Only reason I can see people wanting hate it is because they just need to complain about everything lol

      Ironic because you are complaining right now about everything from his video . You know not everyone has to like what you like right ? And people have the right to complain we are not mindless shills enjoying everything .And by the way you wouldn't complain if someone tease something on a poster and when you watch that movie hoping to see it you get a big dissapointment in your face ? Being a fan of the series doesn't mean you have to blindly like everything from that series .This is not an origin movie .And the design is something objective especially when Mechagodzilla was supposed to be a robotic version of Godzilla and not a city .Not every Godzilla movie has to be like the original .If you liked this ,that's ok but not everyone has to be like you

      Methlokaijufan97
      I’m not complaining, I’m pointing out the obvious logical flaws in this video.
      I’ve even admitted the only real sad part about this series is the lack of monster on monster action. But aside from that, it is objectively better than most Godzilla films. But that’s not hard to realize considering most Godzilla films are not objectively good lol they’re popcorn flicks, for the most part. Hell I’d also say they missed a big opportunity by making the prologue of this film be regulated to just an intro. The prologue would’ve made an excellent movie on its own.
      I honestly cannot see how anyone could call this series a failure when the standards being applied would mark most Godzilla flicks as failures. Seriously rewatch this video and think. It’s basically saying “I wish this Godzilla film was as good as the trash I like. Now let me apply logic I would not apply to the trash I wish this was”
      It’s intellectually adolescent at best.

      Albert Rodriguez How is this better than most godzilla films ? With no monster battle ? With only boring dialogue and people walking around ? A lot of people and fans are tired of Man vs Godzilla thing .This series is a failure especially because of the story .How are these characters planning to take the Earth back when Godzilla is unkillable ? And most of all who they can survive in this new terraformed environment ? Think a bit .They can't even walk without those suits that gave them oxygen .There are no food for them or even drinkable water .All of them were changed and now they are toxic for the humans .This story is just bullshit .Also they can't repopulate the planet again since they are an even smaller number after the fight with the first Godzilla .These characters are ment to die not defeat Godzilla

    But Omni, Toho isn't responsible for this trilogy, Polygon and Gen Urobuchi are. While I can't defend the other points because I agree with them, I've got this for Godzilla. I'm getting the idea that you didn't catch the parts where they state he was evolved through horizontal gene transfer, meaning, he possesses DNA of many different creatures. And for the life, all life on the surface is literally mimicking him. Creators said he's the pinnacle of evolution on earth. It really shows. Because he's smart enough to realize after his first attack failed to be productive, he had to try and get in closer and physically assault the city, but not so smart that he'd begin to behave in a way that would be non beneficial to the earth, like sentient species such as humans. In my opinion, the human characters misunderstand Godzilla completely. Godzilla movies love the "fear and destroy what you don't understand" cliche, and I've a feeling that's exactly what is happening. And you yourself stated that Gen Urobuchi saves the best for last way back when we were speculating about POTM. Did you forget that this seems to be in line with his previous works? And I'm still mad that we aren't getting SpaceGodzilla.

    • @omniviewer2115
      @omniviewer2115  6 лет назад +3

      Well, Godzilla being the result of horizontal gene transfer is glossed over amidst all of the other technobabble speeches in these movies, so it's very easy to miss and means nothing to anyone who has only seen the movies and hasn't read the expanded material.
      As for Gen Urobuchi svaing the best for last...well, any good writer knows not to play his/her best hand too early, but that doesn't mean everything beforehand should be filler. Puella Magi Madoka Magica had one heck of a finale, but everything before that was also great. It was a steady escalation as the world became darker and more horrifying. I can't really think of anything in that series which counted as gratuitous filler, certainly not the way City on the Edge of Battle did.

      Cody Starr the anime definitely aint a failure, most critism or hate for the trilogy is by the west and by long time godzilla fans. Its doing pretty well in japan and even been selling toys or products for the movie great so far. You ever heard the saying "no one hates star wars films as much as star wars fans" yea the same applies here with the western fans. Of course personally I find the movies pretty meh so far, hopefully the third installment can give my giant monster fighting fix lol. Not saying the critisn is bad or unwarranted, but frankly I feel like this guy hung on trivial things of the movie rather than the larger inconsistencies of the story and made this whole video more negative and harsh than it should had been.

      Velociraptors of Skyrim This isn't exactly the same as a single film being a failure. The story is incomplete and Toho have one chance left to at least try make things right.
      I just feel like it's slightly poor judgement to give up all hope for the trilogy when it isn't finished yet.

      Again, though. My argument still stands. A movie that is shitty for 2/3rds of it's runtime is a shitty movie. So even if they do get the last part right, that's not instantly going to make the whole trilogy good.

  • @OfficialRedTeamReview
    @OfficialRedTeamReview 6 лет назад +1

    I like two things about this trilogy:
    1. The backstory is awesome: Essentially, for what ever reason, monsters have appeared on Earth and are attacking. The military is fighting back and manages to defeat them all with the exception of Godzilla who shows up later on after years of monster attacks. It's primary in the novel: Godzilla: Monster Apocalypse
    2. Godzilla Earth. Not only is it the largest and arguably most powerful Godzilla iteration we've seen but its connection to the planet is just such a cool concept.
    I will say I do like other things it does and it reminds me of how Final Fantasy manages to incorporate troupes from its other games into the newest ones such as moogles, Cid, Bahamut and so on. This trilogy takes a bit from previous films such as MechaGodzilla, Aliens, Space travel, random monsters and even Godzilla's son, if you could call it his son, in the first film. What I don't like is the annoying anime things it takes with it in the trilogy which I'm surprised they somehow managed to avoid, like squeezing in a high school and dumb love triangle where each character is too afraid to tell their own feelings for each other. Ugh.
    Wouldn't call it awful just....not good. The problem, for me, is that it feels like this film was made on a very scarce budget. Plus I'm a little biased because I HATE anything that has CGI in it, especially if the CGI isn't done correctly but I do like Godzilla so I'd give it a shot. Its not amazing but its not awful, I'd say its "Meh" at best. Good video btw!

  • @tskmaster3837
    @tskmaster3837 6 лет назад +3

    Alien 9? That's a deep anime pick there. Respect. And I'd rather watch Alien 9 again than City on the Edge of Battle... ha, I almost called it that old Star Trek episode, City on the Edge of Forever.
    I'd say the problem with Godzilla anime is that it has the same problem as Shin Godzilla... it pretends like it's the only Godzilla film, if not monster movie, ever made. "Here, let me say this name, you will be surprised!" or "I think it's a giant monster!" "What, in a monster movie? It can't be!" You can get into the individual problems but they all tend to stem from the arrogance of the production team... as if the name "True Godzilla" wasn't enough of a clue.
    But that's Shin, Godzilla anime wants to straddle the line between shlock 70s Godzilla of its themes of "Giant robots! Aliens!! Underground Earth cultures!" with, we can be specific here, Godzilla 1984 and its solo human, solo monster revenge plot. One problem that anyone should notice right away is that they don't mesh, at all.
    But there's one stupid problem here that's even bigger than that: the film is Planet of monsters and you're Toho and you own these names and designs so have some named monsters fight. Introduce new ones alongside the old ones but have monsters on a planet of monsters. 1: Gigan. 2 Megalon… I want to say Mechagodzilla but that can't be right... 3 Biollante; If there was anytime to bring back the giant plant, this was it.

      Shiny Gamer The main character is, personality wise, almost the exact same as the main character from attack on titan. They even have similar back stories and intentions. Both are edgy and angsty and want to kill giant monsters because said monsters killed their parents. And they fly around yelling " you bastard " because it's not like that's the most used insult in anime outside of " damn you ". I would say the drama was awkward and pointless and characters just didn't make any sense to me.

    • @nexusshark
      @nexusshark 6 лет назад +3

      Alex Mercier You make it sound like being an Attack on Titan inspired character is a bad thing. Me, I'm absolutely into character driven stories where the protagonist has a deeply personal reason to fight the enemy aside from just killing the bad guy and save the world from monsters. The thing that actually ruins it for me however is the way the Kaiju's are being reduced to pure background more than ever. This video actually described it the best. I liked the characters, but that's about it.

    • @Jormyyy
      @Jormyyy 6 лет назад +2

      nexusshark to me it's just a lame copy and pasted generic anime trope. He has very little personality aside from getting upset and being angtsy. I don't even remember his name for crying out loud that's how uninteresting he is to me.

    • @nexusshark
      @nexusshark 6 лет назад +4

      Alex Mercier Tropes are just media tools. Seeing them re-appear in media is not a bad thing. Haruo is not only vengeful and angsty, but also loyal and idealistic. He cares about his team mates and has shown compassion. He has character flaws like being quite reckless sometimes, but he has also shown ingenuity in defeating Godzilla Filius. He has also grown past his personal revenge on Godzilla and instead focuses on fighting for the sake of humanity. Though with Yuko's death that may revert back to personal (though he can't really blame Godzilla this time). I only watched both movies once and I did indeed remember some of the important names. I can get invested in these characters.

    I agree with almost everything except few little stuff.
    3:33 Godzilla was allways a symbol of the power of nature.
    If nature is in such way it make sense to Godzilla to be similar to that as well.
    Plant are usually seen more close to "nature" than animals... making it a plant it became *Nature*.
    4:35 I guess they wanted to try a different design to make it more unique... when you look at it you don't say "it's mechagodzilla" you say "it's the anime mechagodzilla".
    This Mecha doesn't try to be "Godzilla as a robot" like all the past incarnations... It is Godzilla'opposite.
    Anime Godzilla is a plant and has several "rounded" parts... this MechaGodzilla is litterally the opposite... spiky and metal.
    I think they succeded in that regard.
