Another sign to look out for, not all the time, but most of the time a seller aka scammer will only have one picture of the item for sale and not include much in the description other than great condition for example. Tried getting a decent car for a fair price awhile back and finally gave up and bought a car locally in person due to the volume of Craigslist Scams.

I met a guy online once that appeared to be wonderful. He claimed to have lost his wife of 10 years, and left him with a baby. He reported he was a single parent to this little darling girl. We e-mailed back and forth. The child was nice and her daddy was a soldier and was looking forward to me coming to be her new mommy. I was shocked, her daddy and I never spoke of my relocating, marriage or getting married. Long story short, he contacted very early the next morning reporting he was overseas and was reporting to be in the Philippines and had gone to a bar with friends the night before, and had gotten robbed and needed $1800 for medical attention and airline tickets to get back to his naval base. He initially at the onset of our conversations he said he was born & raised in the Philippians, but moved to the U.S. to attend college & high school. At the reported time of robbery he said he didn't speak the language. Also told me initially his dad owned a large piece of land there and he was just there to oveasea the plant operations before deployment. Reported at that time he did not speak the language fluently, but went on later to say part of his problem at the time of his "robbery" he didn't speak the language. Goes on to report he was willing to re-reimburse me. Just give him my bank information. He'd contact his dad for $2,000 to reimburse me. I asked who was his daughter with, and why didn't he just contact his dad? I guess I asked too many questions and his patience became thin. He started with a bunch of excuses and he told me obviously I didnt trust him. I said," you are damn straight and, I am not sending nearly 2 grand to a sweet talking stranger." He swore at me. And later I was unable to reach him via the contact information it had become non existent.

She then sent me an email asking for my name, & address, phone# as she will be sending me a cashiers check for the asking price plus an extra $40. Then she said she'll be sending a third party to pick up the chest of drawers later. I haven't responded as this seems phishy. But I'm confused, what will she gain from this? Unless she asks me to send her the $40 back, like its a deposit? Or she'll get my personal info. which is just my name address & phone #. Not sure. But if she inquires again I'll just say, sorry cash only

First ever Craigslist item I sold was a laptop I had (got the laptop for free, luckily) and was selling it for 700. Person offered the 700 via PayPal and I believed a fake paypal email requesting tracking info and proof of shipment. They wanted me to send the laptop USPS priority 1 day shipping!!! Luckily I put it for regular 3-4 business day shipping and 24 hours later I realized that the email was very sketchy at a second glance and immediately put an intercept on my package that had only been in the system for 24 hours. Later I looked up the address and the location was a Western Union location 😂 told the scammer I was cancelling the shipment and they flipped out but once I ridiculed their poor grammar scam emails they never replied to me 😂

If they are not specific as to the item you're selling, for example, you're selling a guitar for $100.00, and they say "I'm really interested in the item.". That's a red flag that they are generically hunting out victims, and could care less what you're selling.

@@TuNgo Yeah I've dealt with these scammers a number of times on Craigslist, and noticed a pattern.
1st, they are vague, and their English is poor. They want the unspecified item with no questions asked, and without seeing it. Most buyers on Craiglist will ask questions, and/or want to see the item before making a commitment to buy. Not these scammers.
2nd they will be quite insistent on getting your phone number, so they can text you, and avoid scrutiny from Craigslist.
3rd, they will try to send you a bogus cashier's check in an amount far greater than the amount you're asking. For a $100.00 item, they might offer $500.00 or more. I received one of these checks, and I turned it in to the local police.
4th, once you acknowledge receiving the check, they will change it up. They'll ask you to deposit it, then send the balance to a 3rd party (usually an out of state address). The bank will then hold you responsible for the amount that will not clear. You're out $500.00, and you might even lose the item you're selling. Fortunately for me, I didn't fall for it, but I could have.

I have just started getting suspicious of a buyer for an item on Craigslist I’m selling. I’m getting so confused. Her excuse to not meet up was 1st : illness (Corona virus) 2nd : wedding. She is sending me a check, I asked for tracking number- she hasn’t sent it but says it’s on the way. She is sending $50 more for immediately removing the post and trusting that she’ll send it, which I had no problem with. She wants to know exactly when I receive the check, and asked me to immediately deposit it. Plot twist: a mover is going to come pick up the item. She made a “mistake” and included the movers funds which I’m supposed to give back to the mover when he comes for the item.
My problem is if I give the mover cash I will never see that money again. She will probably tell her bank she never authorized the payment of the check and my account will go to negative.
Is there any way I can spin this to make a profit?

an offshore check can take months to clear, it might clear your bank but not clear the bank of bum fok egypt a month latter.
always ask for cash and get an anti counterfeit pen or blacklight to make sure the cash is real or meet at your bank and have a teller check it.
Bad english can be a huge red flag.
craigslist can be a good deal but the Flakes and Trolls are off the charts there so be safe and meet in public, I like to meet at my Bank Lobby, weeds out the scammers quick!

So this man is trying to buy my computer, he is sending a check of the money that I put it up for and then 70 dollars more. He says that once the check clears and the money is in my account, I should delete my listing and contact him. Im extremely confused as to if it is a scam or not. Why would someone send a check of 70 dollars above the listed price? And then even wait for it to be cleared? Some insightful opinion would be appreciated

I would say it’s a scam, you even asked... why would someone send you a check for 70 dollars above asking price? 7 business days a typically the time frame for a check to return, but I’ve heard of checks returning past the 7 business day period. I would say to be safe, avoid this person.

One time I almost fell for those ones that tell you to post an ad on Craigslist to sell a house and you’ll get paid 300 a week for a few ads posted. I was 17 and desperate to find a job lol I believe they get you to post the ads and the people that message them are the ones who will get scammed.

I'm 17 now and a couple months ago. I saw this job on Craigslist, to post vacation rentals and i get paid 200 dollars a week. Eventually (after a week or 2) the person said i wouldnt be doing that and instead take care of the financial part. Like the clients would send me money and i would send the money back. He uses the "kindly" a lot. And once he made me wire a couple hundred dollars to a guy in the uk. I dont even think the person (the guy who hired me) even live in my state. Anyway once i got an from someone she asked when will she get the keys to the house because she drived from upstate and has kids. I told the guy about it and he said to block her and he will get back to her. I got another message like that another time. I was skeptical and thought maybe he was scamming people and using me. This video comfirmed my thoughts. What should i do? He does pay for every transaction so i thought he's trustworthy. And I've probably done around $10k worth of transaction for him. He also has my bank account number and routing number and my address (Im moving in February though).

Sounds like a scam. When you get the check, take it to your bank and tell them everything.
If the person is trying to get you to send them or someone else money. It’s a scam, use common sense and talk to your bank about it. If the person is trying to rush you to send money, definitely a scam.
