I love this content. You are a hero. My grandparents, aged 75 and 78, fell for one of these Microsoft security scams and lost about $600. It’s so good to see these vile creatures known as scammers absolutely destroyed. PS - kinda off topic, but it makes me feel terrible for legit call center workers sometimes. I worked as a supervisor for 3 years in a US based call center for Gieco insurance. We had one rep, really nice and funny guy, who had a very heavy Indian accent. I always felt terrible for him when he had to make outbound calls because people automatically assumed it was scam based on his voice alone. Some would just immediately hang up on him, others would call him racial slurs or cuss him to heaven and back. I hate that these scumbags have ruined the name of good, hardworking people just trying to earn an honest living.
Sad but true, I really don't trust any Indian voice I hear any more. I can call a market place and one answer, I have to remind myself that I called them 😅 this is true. Sad but true.
I'm sorry this happened to your grandfather. My husband which is 12 yrs older than me fell for the IRS scam many years ago which led to him not getting his tax returns. I have noticed that a lot of new adults (18-23) find themselves the victims of similar scams lately as well as those over 60-65 yrs today. It is hard for many honest hard working people to automatically be suspicious of people they have never met, because who wants to go around feeling like everyone is out to get you. It's depressing. However there are many low lives out there that lack the capacity for empathy as well as a moral compass. That being a fact it's always best to "Trust but Verify".
It is a shame, but it’s also expected. I’d rather hang up on an honest person than be scammed by a dishonest person. I hate that it has come to that, but here we are. 🙏
I'm one of those guys that cuss them with the worst things that come to mind at the moment. I mean, it's just words, it can't hurt anyone that much, that's why an ok trick is to speak really quiet, which hopefully makes them turn up their volume, and then scream loudly into the phone and try to cause some real damage. I think I can easily tell an actual business/service call from a scam, though. Hate these scammers.

Yeah it's remote connection software, anyone can do it at any time and it's also used for good purposes. Scammers use it coz it's the quickest and easiest to hand over control of your computer
Best way to think of it is it's like a vampire: you have to invite it in. The scammers had him download software so they could access his computer remotely...but he can use that same connection to access theirs remotely. Scammers just assume their core audience, technophobic 80-somethings, won't try to use that.

a million a week? so Instead of these scammers taking our money let’s just have our government do it legally more so then they already are! Sounds great, 1 mill a week 52 million a year 520/0.52 billion a decade…. that’s basically the same amount if not much more than the scammers are getting from US citizens. Let’s not encourage them to do that, if they were to fund ScammerPayback $5-10 K a week would be the maximum and more then enough to suffice! Especially given the fact that they are currently operating from donations alone and ad revenue alone, that on top of the current funding would allow them to have an entire AntiScam Call Center
