Finally!!! A jelly roll I can understand. You make so much more sense for me as a beginner quilter. I don't have to bother about sewing on a 45 degree angle, which has prevented me doing a jelly roll. Thank you.
patricia chandler Did you ever do that jelly roll quilt? Have you continued to quilt? I've been sewing for 52 years and About a year ago I got into quilting and haven't stopped. I just did the jelly roll quilt tonight and it was a blast!!! If you haven't done it yet, you have to give it a whirl.
Beautiful quilt, fingers, voice and instructions. I made this with a little white square between each strip and it looks lovely quilted and a bit of plain interest in the quilt.
Thanks for showing that you can make this quilt with straight joins rather than the angled ones. It looks so much nicer and I will definitely be giving this a go.
Ughhh....this is the best and most clear jelly roll quilt tutorial I've seen. thanks for videoing up close so we can actually see what you're doing. thanks for sharing!!
All I can say is WOW! I ❤️ this quilting technique and it's so easy for a beginner like myself. Thank you so much for posting this video. Not only do you make beautiful cards but your an awesome seamstress.
Great easy to follow video! Now I know how to to make this type of quilt. All the other videos I have TRIED to watch did not make sense, your video is the ONLY one that did. THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for this video and the questions that you have answered. Your instruction makes this project much easier for me to tackle. I could use a stress relieving sewing project right now.
Glad to see you making a jelly roll quilt. I made my first one just like this, but added a 2 inch square on each end that was all the same color.... I have mad 4 quilts now. I even have started free motion quilting.... wish Stampin' Up! had fabric still !
Wow, LOVED this video. Thank you for the clear, easy to understand instructions. And I have to say, I like the straight joins better than the 45° angle ones.
I love the way this looks much better than those with 45 degree angles, plus you made it easy to understand. Thanks so very much! I hope to make one of these after I make two quilts for my two little granddaughters. I made a double slice layer cake quilt last year for an older granddaughter and finished two dinosaur quilts Christmas eve for my two young grandsons.
Grandmother was a quilter, but I was never taught. I simple adore that quilt. Maybe someday I can find a beginners class in my area. Lol getting to old to try I think. Better stick to scrapbooking, but will continue to enjoy watching you. TYFS
Awesome 💟 Straight to the point, one of the best jelly roll quilt tutorials out there. Thank you for patiently giving such detailed information. You Rock! 😊
Just saw this same idea, and I am like you, I don’t like sewing the pieces together at an angle, so I will be following your advise! Thanks so much for a great tutorial and Blessings🤗💕
Ty for such an easy and simple tutorial. Your voice is pleasant and you don't go too fast where I can't understand. Ty so much!😃 And thankfully no 45 degree angles!!
Great tutorial, I really enjoyed it !!! I am not a quilter, or even sew !! I didn't even know you could buy strips cut already !!! Well thanks, Doris P.
I make these using 3 inch strips they are fun to do and gets rid of lots of scraps. when I make something I cut stripes and squares with the ends so I am always ready to make scrap quilts for charity You explain it very well thank you
Oh Gosh Angie! I do not know who you are giving it to, but I know I LOVE it! I have never owned a quilt of any kind, but I know I can admire the beauty and the work that goes into making one. Your tutorial was simply wonderful and even though I am a non-sewer, I loved your tutorial and found your instructions very clear and concise. Thanks for sharing Angie, it put a smile on my face after a really bad day.
Thanks Angie! since I am new to this craft I have watched gobs of video’s & I have learned more from you than all the others, you inspire me to keep going & make another ☝️
+Leila Cusick If you need any help let me know. Also, after moving my fabric around in several of my quilts .. I've gone back to just sewing them in the order they arrive on the roll :)
OMG! Angie, am so happy your sewing again (on video) you taught me how to sew a bag, I adore you for it! Can you do more bag sewing ones please, i love your style of teaching, thanks so much for your vids Diana (Aus) xx
Thank you so much for showing how to do this quilt! I've been very confused by other tutorials meant to be for a beginner...but they intimidated me so much with all the 45° angles!! I'm going to try my best to do this quilt.
+Heather Sipe You're welcome Heather! Please let me know if you need any help. Also, no need to move your fabric around .... once you trim off the 18" of the last piece ... you can start sewing.
@@chicnscratch how many times do you bring ends together and then cut where it's all connected once you cut the inches off the 1600 inche trail? If that make sense lol. I've counted four, but I cant ever remember
Looks like fun!! I've made one quilt in my life for a baby crib with lots of applique work and I'm thinking I will not be doing that again! Yours seems muuuuch easier!!!
I've been wanting to make a jelly roll quilt, but I've yet to find visual instructions I can understand -- your tutorial is so simple and easy to understand! Thank you, Angie! Can't wait to make my first one now :-)
OK Angie, I watched the video and yours is easier to follow than the other one I watched. The colors are very good together. It's like SU-the colors all coordinate beautifully. Thanks for feed back. I am going to send you an email with further questions.
ok. So, I sewed my first ever jelly roll quilt today following all of the above instructions. I have found a couple of things that I encountered that might help someone else: 1. I did make sure there were no repeated fabric strips right next to each other, that were duplicates, however, because the quilt top becomes cut, some strips will actually end up right next to each other. (as you can also see in this video above). 2. I made sure that there were no twists in my initial chain of rows, and it worked well when adding the end strip to the beginning one. After that first fold cut, however, I started to sew the strips and when I got to the end, low and behold, there was a twist in the chain. I had to take the entire seam out, lay it on the floor (not a small feat) and decided to utilize pins. The pins take longer to put in, but is well worth the time as I didn't have to keep stopping so much to adjust my fabric, and helped to make the fabric lay flatter and not twist so easily. I would also suggest laying out the strips in a continuous fan on top of one another so that you avoid any twists that might occur when sewing. All in all, it was fun to do this. It is worth it as long as you are up for "not knowing what it will look like until you cut the final fold!":)
Great how to video- I love to sew but just don't "make" the time to do it. The colors in your quilt are beautiful. I have never done a jelly roll quilt- it looks like fun! Teri F
Wow Angie, is there no end to your talents. This looks wonderful, really beautiful. Would love one for my oh so special 3 month old granddaughter, my one and only. Sounded like you will be passing it on for someone to do the quilting, padding part which sounds great but I don’t think we have people in the UK I could take something to - or maybe we do, will need to look into it. Don’t know if I could do that part. Anyway thanks for even more inspiration and some food for thought. Love, love, love you videos ;>) Ps Shame about leadership I know, but you’re feeling better.
That was a wonderful demonstration, and such a beautiful quilt. So wish I was on you friend list!! Can you tell me if you sell the materials used in the jelly rolls? All the best & many thanks. M.x
What is your stitch size? I purchased jelly rolls several years ago. I’ve searched and watched several videos, but never felt secure in attempting. Your instruction is so easy to understand. After the holidays, I’ll am going to give it a try. Thank you so much.
If I was going to cut my own fabric for a jelly roll quilt, what would those measurements be? I bought fabric but now I want to try a jelly roll quilt. Please help!
If you want it exact you would cut them the size of the jelly roll strips which is 2-1/2 inches by 44 inches. But remember to cut off the 18" of the last strip.
There are a couple of things I don't understand. I have never done this but am considering trying it. My questions are: Why did you cut 18 inches off of the last piece in the jelly roll? and What was that button on your sewing machine that you pressed at the end of every pass and then after you finished sewing you pressed it again. What did that do? My questions may be stupid, in which case I probably didn't need to tell you I have never done this before. BTW, the finished product is beautiful...
Maryann Anderson Hi Maryann, You need to cut the 18" off the last piece because if you don't all the seams will be lined up in the same spot on each row ...trust me this step is very important. The button on my sewing machine is the needle up/ needle down button. If you have any other questions you are welcome to email me anytime. Thanks!!
I was given a heap of strip, which obviously started as a jelly roll. I happen to have been going through my stash today and started ironing them.. No idea why, until now. Thx.
I learned so much from this video being new to quilting and sewing! Thank you! You think of the little things that I wish others would, like how many bobbins I'll need! :) What's your preference with starch? Do you recommend adhesives for binding a quilt or safety pins? Thank you so much! ❤️
One part I still don't get. If you sew strips to the end (after the first one) how can you cut the fold all the way across? I get stopped by the last seam. I only used a jelly roll with 20 strips.
Very good tutorial! I am wondering, however, it appears that you sew in the same direction on each strip. How do you avoid the "wavy" effect when doing so? (I was always told to sew each strip opposite direction from the last. Thank you!
I am so late yet giddy with excitement discovering the jelly roll quilt!😀👏
