    Love your explanation of why cotton is important. When I make mine, I zig zag all 4 sides to baste the batting then do the X in the middle too. Found this to be helpful keeping all together .

    I’ve made many bowl cozies for elderly people at nursing homes. Some have problems with their hands being cold (I don’t remember the medical term) so it’s great when they have their ice cream and naturally for the microwave. 🌻

      I'm the same. It's called Raynauds Syndrome. I use these for hot but way more for cold because of it. When my hands get cold my fingers turn white, purple, go numb & it's very unpleasant. It doesn't take long either, so I use these for a bowl of cereal, ice cream, whatever.

    I have made the bowl cozies for presents and the feedback has all been positive. I use 100% Quilter's Cotton, Wrap-N-Zap batting, and cotton thread. I put a note with the Cozy that when washed use COLD water, NO fabric softener, and let them completely air dry. Also do not heat them in the microwave for more than 2 minutes time.

I find the Wrap and Zap just too thick. I want to thank you for the very informative video. I would of used the wrong batting. We don't have very many choices up here in the Great White North. Thank you. I have watched so many tutorials. My big concern was about the wrinkling after washing. You are the only one who addressed that. Thank you so much. I was worried that they look so nice new but being cotton they will wrinkle. I did not want people to be disappointed. Also are there better quality 100 % cottons that wrinkle less than others

    • @HALO_Inspirations
      @HALO_Inspirations  Год назад

      Terry, it isn't the quality of the cotton (per se), but that it is cotton. All cotton shrinks when washed. I will tell you that it is minimal, when I use Quilter's Dream Cotton. It has a shrinkage rate of 1-3%. You may find other cotton battings that shrink more than that. I also like to use the Quilter's Dream Cotton in the Request loft size for cozies. It is the thinnest cotton batting they have. I use the Select or Deluxe loft for other quilting projects. Also, remember that the fabric is also cotton. Therefore, it also shrinks. Yep, crinkles/wrinkles will show where the stitching is. I realize you are probably making these for Christmas gifts. However, I have my daughter coming to town and she is bring me 2 different cozies that I made and gave to her. I will be showing the what they look like now after many washes and use, on the 7 Dec chit chat live video. I hope this was helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @jfloyd5015

      What works for me is I tell the recipients to wash the bowl cozies in COLD water, don't use fabric softener, then shape them and let them air dry completely. This is what I do with mine and they look good as new afterwards. Also, very important is to wash (in warm water) and iron your cotton material before you cut them out to get rid of the shrinkage.

    I have some Pellon All Natural Cotton Batting. Can this go into the microwave?

    • @HALO_Inspirations
      @HALO_Inspirations  Год назад +1

      Collette, I am not familiar with Pellon's Batting products. You can do 1 of 2 things. The package may tell you if it has webbing, scrim, resin or glue. All those things are not good to put into the microwave. It truly must be 100% cotton only!! Pellon makes wrap-n-zap, which is only cotton and designed for this purpose. The other thing you can do is call them and ask. Their phone number is found on their website. Hope this helps.

    I checked your website, and it says gentle washing and low heat and wondered how it would work in the microwave?

    • @HALO_Inspirations
      @HALO_Inspirations  Год назад

      Wonderful question! I am actually going to talk about this on the 7th of Sept for our Live Cherub Chit Chat. If you are referring to the batting, that is washing instructions, not use. For example, if you look at Pellon's Wrap-N-Zap (batting made by Pellon especially for bowl cozies and such things that go into the microwave), it does state to wash gentle and low heat dry. The most important thing with bowl cozies is that it is 100% cotton (no scrim, no resins, no glues, no poly-whichever batting you use, you have to be sure it doesn't have anything but cotton)! Just straight 100% cotton. I'm no advocating this, but my daughter just throws it in the wash (not gentle, but regular), and dries it at high heat...yeah, scary, but it works for her. It does come out puffy, and she has to reshape. But it holds together well. I like the Dream Cotton low loft batting better than the Wrap-N-Zap because it is easier to manage. Thanks again for asking! Awesome question!

If you use batting. make sure it has no scrim, no resin. no glue, no nothing but 100% cotton.
