I bought this same template about 2 years ago. It came with no information or instructions of any kind. I sure it was meant to be self-explanatory. But I needed a basic "How Too". Thank You for the tutorial.
I'm so glad it was helpful! For future reference, Creative Grids rulers usually come with a paper insert that has basic instructions. If yours are missing, you can find them on the creative Grids website. Here is the link to the instruction download for this template, if you'd like to have it handy. Note, this is a download link, so it will download the file: s3.amazonaws.com/checker-cg/instructions/CGRBOWLS_Instructions_Website.pdf If you'd like the place I found this link, you can go here: www.creativegridsusa.com/products/CGRBOWLS
First time watching your channel!! I have a set of 10 each placemats, bowl coozies, and coasters for my daughter-in-law’s family for a gift. I’m soooo glad I saw your tutorial!!!
Loved this video! I had ordered the bowl cozy templates but they came with no instructions. Thank goodness I sought You Tube for help, and found your tutorial. It was SO much easier than what I had used in the past. I was able to cut out, stitch and finish 10sets (4 bowls/set) for a total of 40 bowls for Christmas gifts - and the timed saved by using the templates and your video instructions was nothing short of amazing! So happy to find your channel!
Same here! Bowl cozy templates and no instructions! 🤦♀️ Thank goodness I found this video! You explained it really well. I might even try it with two contrasting fabrics and perhaps even bias binding around the edges!!
Hello! I hope you have had a happy and creative day. I just got to sit down to watch your video. I just want you to know that I enjoy your channel content and always find it interesting. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Thank you for sharing your video and your talent.
Thanks for this. Very well explained w/o excess, unnecessary drivel. I bought a set of templates that have NO instructions. I was lost. Now, I'm confident.
I'm so sorry that you didn't have instructions! Creative Grids usually does a great job of having an instruction insert as well as having an instructional video. But I'm glad I could help as well. 🥰
What works even better than the purple thing, is a big popsicle craft stick. The length makes it easy to handle, and the rounded edge works great on the curves. It also fits great in the seams cause its thin. I use it daily. Haven't broken it yet. And you get a bunch in a pack for really cheap.
Thank you so much for your video I have been searching for someone to show the process in slow motion for me!!! I will subscribe but are you anywhere else PLEASE tell me!! Thank you again can’t wait to get started making bowl cozies

@@CarolinaMoore I was excited to be able to purchase your template at the International Quilt Show in Long Beach last Saturday! I can hardly wait to use it.
You can try it with one layer and see if it gives you enough insulation? I haven't made a baked potato bag, so I could not tell you how it compares. Sorry!
Early on you said the cut fabric fit perfectly on the batting piece, but at 9:24, when you sewed the darts, it is obvious that the fabric is larger than the batting by at least 1/4". So, which is it: a perfect fit or the fabric larger than the batting? I've always cut the fabric and the batting pieces the same size and have not had any trouble.
You cut them the same size. But, batting doesn't have any weave to it, so it can stretch during the process. It can also shift around under the fabric. It happens.
Pellon, the maker of Wrap-N-Zap says to use only one layer of their product inside a cozy - I asked their customer service. The package says two layers of thickness is the maximum, and that’s what you get when you sew darts in one layer of batting. I followed the package instructions on how to preshrink the batting. Mine got nice and thick in most areas, but not evenly thick. I stitched around the perimeter close to the edge before I sewed the darts. That held the batting in place.
Hello there Carolina! i just ordered your boxed bag template and delivery is today. I'm so excited! Just want to say that LOVE your heart shirt. Is it your own design? If so, how do I purchase? I have a heart themed sewing room and want to incorporate it into my room and onto my own shirts. Thanks sew much for any info. :)
Hi! I'm so excited for you to get your template!! Yay!! And while a lot of the tees I wear are my design, this one is from the talented folks at Maker Valley. You can find it here: makervalleybrand.com/collections/apparel/products/sewing-heart-t-shirt-mauve?variant=41660101165225 Totally look around their site for other cool shirts - I have several of theirs! 🥰
@@CarolinaMoore I did shop with them and bought that shirt along with some other goodies. I wrote a note to give you the credit for finding them. Also, my template arrived today and I'm sew excited to use it. Thanks again!
I'm not familiar with anti-fleece, so you would want to check with the manufacturer. My experience with fleece fabrics are synthetic ones - synthetic materials should never be used in the microwave.

Thanks! And fun to see another Carolina on here! ❤️
Tks. Great video. I still use old machine. What stitch length is your 3 etc for an old machine 12/14 etc. ??

Good tip! I also recently learned about using porcupine quills! 🥰
@@CarolinaMoore hmmm never seen that one.
It was new to me, too!
I use the end of a small craft paintbrush. It’s the only thing I could find for a project one time. Happy accident. I use it all the time now.
Thank you very easy to follow your instructions 😊
Glad it was helpful! 🥰
I love it thank you so much ❤️.

I find that pressing the darts open and make sure you cut the bottom of the dart open too. Press all open and it does lay nicer when you are done.
Great tip! ❤️

Do you need to use batting on both sides or can you use one layer? Is the precut batting thinner then microwave batting for baked potato bags?
You can try it with one layer and see if it gives you enough insulation? I haven't made a baked potato bag, so I could not tell you how it compares. Sorry!

great tutorial thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for the lovely comment! 🥰
What size needle should I use? Do I use bigger needles for thick fabric?
I don't use a bigger needle. A Universal or Topstitch needle is fine.
How do you sew over the humps in the middle of the bowl cozy?
Adorable
Thanks! ❤️
Ty for your demo. Have you any demos on what to with the centre’s of bowl cozy templates?
The center unit works the exact same, just is used with a smaller bowl cozy batting (or you cut your own)
So I’m not sure I understand do u use two of the cozy filers for one cozy? The pre cut ones I’m asking about
I have a different video using the pre-cut batting shapes.
You can use 1 or 2, depending on how thick you want it to be
What length did you bump up the stich length for the finish?
I use chop sticks pointed on one end and square on the other .
That totally works! (If you use wooden ones, watch out for splinters). 🥰
HI!! didn't know you had a channel! Hope you are well.
Hey there, friend! Yup, just over here sewing and sharing. Glad you found me. 🥰
can you make these with only one layer of batting?
Absolutely.
What size should be used for 1 pint of ice cream?
For a pint of ice cream, you want to get my ice cream cozy pattern...
Is there a particular weight or thickness of wrap n zap batting? Mine seem a little thick?
I'm not sure? I don't use it very often, so I'm not an expert... sorry!

Is that batting microwave safe?
I don't ever put my bowl cozies in the microwave - I don't trust it.
Solved.
My pleasure! ❤️
Where can I find the link to look at your templates to purchase?

Can Anti-Fleece be used as the batting and used in the microwave?
I'm not familiar with anti-fleece, so you would want to check with the manufacturer. My experience with fleece fabrics are synthetic ones - synthetic materials should never be used in the microwave.
Are the instructions the same for using the small bowl cozy?
Instructions are the same for both sizes. 🥰
What machine are you sewing on please?
This is the Baby Lock Jubilant. I love sewing on it! 🥰
Where can I get the precut batting
There is an affiliate link in the description box. That’s where everybody who has a RUclips channel will put links.
Where can i get the template at. Please and thank you.
Check with your local quilt shop first... if they don't have it there are several shops online... I usually have links in the video description.
can you tell me what the size of the fabric you use for both cozies, please?
I'm not exactly sure, but this was a half yard cut of fabric, and that was plenty. Obviously the small cozy would need less.
If you go to the "Shabby Fabric" youtube video on making these she says to use a 16" square for the large, and an 11" square for the small...
I'm sure the template has instructions on it as well. 🥰
