I found your tutorial so much better than the others I’ve seen. Those videos did not address the issue of the different depths of bowls. They were just generic measurements. When I made my cozies they never fit properly. So I’m thankful for your video on this. I’ve broken many needles sewing over the darts. They were so bulky. How do I eliminate that bulk since it’s not on the edge ?
I love bowl cozies! I made a bunch of them for Christmas this year and they were received well! Have a blessed day and Merry Christmas! Your bowl cozy is beautiful!
Thanks for the tips. I’ve done some bowl cozies but will make more with your techniques. I’ve sewn loops on one corner and hang them on side of my refrigerator for easy access instead of burying them in a drawer.
This is the absolutely best instructional abt making these bowl/plate holders!!! This is my first time watching and immediately when video was finished, I subscribed!! Great job! I am not saying you do this, but as a favor with any new videos, please dont sidetrack while teaching your tips and tricks as in sharing personal info. So many videos waste so much time with personal info. and afterall, we look up videos to learn and quickly do ourselves. So thk you so much!! There were so many extra things you touched on, like the stripes lining up, etc.!! It was definitely taught from a professional! Love loved it!!😂
I have made many bowl cozies and found the information about how to measure for different size bowl was genius and very informative. Thank you. Also what I didn't hear you mention is what type of batting to use. Not all battings can go into the microwave as they will burn the fabric. It must be 100% cotton. The thread also must be 100% cotton or it will burn in microwave. Most battings are not 100% cotton even when they say cotton batting. I suggest a batting that is made to use in the microwave it is called WRAP - N - ZAP. Love the tips and tricks. Thanks
We’re so happy to hear the measuring makes sense! Thank you for your suggestion about batting! I’ve never heard of that brand, but I’d love to try it now! We’re also hesitant to use any type of metallic cotton in the microwave. Thank you so much for watching!
I'm so thrilled I found this video... The tips/tricks really helped (no one else went into this level of instruction). Thank you so so much. I created a instruction document for later reference since I will be making several for Christmas presents including plate cozies--and I don't even need to buy a pattern/template. I also subscribed to your channel...Thank you again!!🥰🥰🥰
This is so great! I have very little sewing experience, and even that was decades ago - but my first bowl cozy came out (almost) perfectly! I was especially pleased because the bowls were a non-standard size and the clear instructions and tips made it so easy to customize the cozies!
Outstanding video tutorial, I subscribed because you gave such great tips. I love your way of teaching. I have been sewing most of my life and you gave me tips I never knew. Thank you.
Thank you both so much for this great tutorial! I am about to sew my first bowl cozy today and I will definitely go by your guidelines, which are inciteful! I live your bowl size, dart size and sewing tips! Thank you❣️You did not advise using all cotton: thread, fabric and batting such as Wrap and Zap, which I purchased after watching other tutorials.
Thank you for watching the tutorial! We found out about Wrap and Zap after this tutorial! So glad you heard that from others. But cotton is definitely important as well. :)
For a beginner tutorial, you should probably mention that if the cozy is going to be used in the microwave the material, batting and thread must be 100% cotton, especially since you show the cozy going into/out of a microwave.
New to sewing… I just found you, and subscribed! Thanks for the info on darts and bowl measuring. I’ve watched a few bowl cozy tutorials and I don’t recall anyone mentioning these tips before~.I will follow along on the next bowl cozy’s I make since I cant seem to retain all the info. I really struggle with squaring up fabric and usually freeze with fear and buy precut when I can…. One day it will sink in~ Haha, I look forward to more beginner tips and projects!
The struggle with squaring up is so real! As the apprentice, that is a fear I completely understand. This project is perfect for practicing though! We love giving tips in all of our tutorials, so we're glad you found the channel!
Thank you for watching! I actually don't know the make up of the fabric because I bought it second hand. However, I know there was no metallic on it which was really important.
How can I get the pattern for the bowl cozies? Thank you for sharing. Loved your tutorial. I have made about a dozen cozies. I have learned so much from your tutorial. I'm excited to make some more using your pattern.
Hello! There isn’t a pattern involved because we share the measurements at the beginning of the video. So you can measure and cut as many as you’d like. 😊
I know this is an old video but what kind of extension table do you have on tour machine ? I have a brother PC8500 emb & sewing machine i really need an extension table 😀
Hello! We are using the Sewing Machines Extension Table Compatible with Brother CS5055, XS6070, CE6080T, CE1010, RCE1010, CE6085T, RCE6080T, ND50E, CE1010, Innov-is A50, A80/NS80E, C50PK, NV180, 180K, 180D. It can be purchased off of Amazon, but your machine isn’t listed as one that is compatible with this table, so it might not fit. I would look up your machine number to see what tables would work. 😃
I may have missed it but you didn’t mention using only a 100% cotton fabric and thread and wrap and zap for the inside batting to avoid any fires in the microwave? Do you take those precautions? Great video loved your directions and some really good points I was happy to watch! I haven’t made them in a while but making one as a gift so needed a refresher. Great job ladies! 🙏🏼🤗
@rlstephens Hi! At 1:02 she explains the dart should be 1/2" away from the ring on the bowl, do the same with the plate, but if it's say a 10" plate, you might want to cut the fabric larger than the 12" . Hope that helps!
@chrissybennett6930 Hi! At 1:02 she explains the dart should be 1/2" away from the ring on the bowl, so a longer dart is for a taller bowl, or a bowl with a smaller base.
Honestly, the main reason we chose 12" was because it's a basic measurement that wasn't intimidating for beginning sewists. You could absolutely start with 10"!
Best bowl cozy video on RUclips. Doesn't cost a penny and professional job. Thank you.
This was the best tutorial I have seen on bowl making and fitting but you need to talk about batting. Thank you

I just wrote that above, glad you commented on it too!
With the Mouse fabric, it might fun to quilt Mickey head in the bottom of of your cozy. Three circles. Just an idea.
That’s such a cute idea!! And it would give you practice with curves!!
Wow. What an excellent video. Thank you ❤❤❤

Love your tips! Now if I could just remember to put bowl in cozy BEFORE it gets hot 😊
The struggle is SO real. lol.

You are absolutely right! That’s why I avoided using any material that had metallic in its title. Thank you for emphasizing this portion!
I was just looking for that same info. abt cotton! Thk you for mentioning!!

Great tutorial ! Is there a way to make a cozy for a rectangular bowl/container?
Subscribed. My question is this. We heat all our soups in oversized mugs with a handle. Any suggestions?
love your tutorial very easy to understand. also where did you purchase the donald duck fabric I would like to buy some.
It is actually a former print from JoAnns. How much are you looking for because I have some left over.

I’ve been asked by a family member to make cozies for 9x13 baking dishes. Do you have a tutorial on the larger baking dishes?
What is 5he best batting to use
What kind of batting do you use?
I am going to use preshrunk fabric to make the kozy. How will this work with a non preshrunk cotton batting after it's made and washed?
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I need help 😢 I have been given a bag of sewing thread partly used , is there away I can find out if it's 100 per cent cotton.....😮
What if I wanted one for a dinner plate? How big /deep would the darts be?
@rlstephens
Hi! At 1:02 she explains the dart should be 1/2" away from the ring on the bowl, do the same with the plate, but if it's say a 10" plate, you might want to cut the fabric larger than the 12" . Hope that helps!
What if you want a petal (round) edge ?
Can you microwave the canvas bowl cozies?
In order to microwave them, the material needs to be made out of 100% cotton. There should not be any metallic on the cotton or it can catch fire.
What machine are y’all using?
They are both Brothers.
Do you prewash fabric
Yes, we do prewash fabric.
I am still confused. 3 inch dart and the four inch, what size bowl do they make. I must have missed something.
Me too :/
@chrissybennett6930
Hi! At 1:02 she explains the dart should be 1/2" away from the ring on the bowl, so a longer dart is for a taller bowl, or a bowl with a smaller base.
Most bowl cozies call for a 10” square. I think I missed why you started with a 12” square????
Honestly, the main reason we chose 12" was because it's a basic measurement that wasn't intimidating for beginning sewists. You could absolutely start with 10"!
