When I started to look how to make a cozy, and learned about needing everything to be 100% cotton, I was shocked to see people put in micro! I never would have thot of that! I only use mine to hold while eating. I recently made an ‘emergency’ heatable rice pillow (that definitely needs to go into the micro.) The only cotton thread in my stash was vintage and brittle. I had to settle for cotton/ poly. Hope nothing bad happens😳
I love this plate cozy! I did it along as you did. I love it! Have a question though.. Which would be better for gifts? the Bowl cozy or plate cozy. I have five kids I would like to give them . LOL Which would be more useful?

I had the same problem when making bowl cozies but my friend/neighbor told me what I was doing wrong. It will work for the plate cozies too. The batting doesn't need to go out as far as the fabric because you've already sewn them together (when you sewed the X). So you don't need to sew it again on the edge. Great video. Are the dart measurements the same regardless of the size plate size?
Love this! If I may ask, how long is quite long for your X stitches? Thank you! 😊

Hi Kerry, Yes that is what it means :) Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment., l appreciate your time. 'Till next time, happy sewing ❤🪡🧵
I use a 3.0 stitch length for the X and final top stitch so I think that’s what she meant about elongating your stitches.
Yes, that's what it means.

That is different dimension on the sides. I like it better!
Glad you like it!
Great tutorial, how do you determine the size of the darts for a different size plate?
It depends on the plate rise. But generally l use my winder clips to mock up the darts and play with the measurements.. The measurements l used it the video is for a larger plate with a slight rise...l hope this helps 😊
My machine won’t sew through all the thicknesses to top stitch. Any recommendations?
Try a walking foot or cut the interfacing an inch smaller to keep the bulkiness out of the seams
Yes I’d cut back interfacing !
I had the same problem when making bowl cozies but my friend/neighbor told me what I was doing wrong. It will work for the plate cozies too.
Don't cut your batting squares the same size as your fabric squares. Cut the batting squares 1 inch smaller. Example: 12 inch fabric square and 11 inch batting square. Now you'll only be sewing through the fabric. The only time you'll sew through the batting is when you sew the X that holds them together.
Hope that made sense.
Change your needle to a sharp top stitch needle
Timothy, cut the batting squares a half inch or and inch smaller than the fabric squares. You've already sewn them together when you made the X, so they will stay connected to each other. Now you won't be sewing through any batting. I don't know why they don't teach us this way in any of the tutorials. It's so much easier when you top stitch at the end too. Do it this way. I use a size 14 needle on a Brother (cheap) sewing machine. No high tech machine.
It works better with an inch by 2 inch dart . I tried the dart size you recommended it made the cosy plate floppy.
2 inch going up on the raw edge and 2" on the fold?
I could only get polyester wadding..can that be used in microwave
I would not use it in the microwave at all...there is too much of a risk of it melting and or catching on fire...in my opinion, it is not worth the risk.
I bought pure wool wadding..it says it's safe to use in the microwave
That's cool. I have square plates.
You could still use them if you turn the plate, so the corners of the plate are at the darts...thank you for taking the time to watch and comment ❤️🪡🧵
