For future reference *for anyone* - To remove things like an axle nut with a beefy impact, it's important an IMPACT rated socket is used, not just because of safety but because an impact socket has more material to hammer against. While rust might have made it a bit tougher, the socket you use can make quite the difference when removing.
Not only an impact socket, but depending on torque ratings definitely use a weighted impact socket, commonly used on crankshaft bolts but useful on anything high torque.
They’re studs not lugs and they help with having to run spacers or specific wheels for the track and it definitely makes it easier to get the wheels on and off. Longer lugs would actually help cover the studs from sticking out and most aftermarket wheels do take up the space even without a spacer.
Nice job on the build especially since Porsche would love to find something really expensive for you to fix. The keyfob could be just a programming thing, but from what I know, that can only be done at a Porsche dealership and will cost you about $300 to $500 and consists of them plugging in their "special" device and spending about 10 minutes working on your car. I did it for mine because I only had one key and that didn't help me sleep at night.
I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but Euro cars are super sensitive to voltage drops (from a failing battery). Do yourself a huge favour and get a battery tender/trickle charger. Leave it on charge when the car's in the garage. Never have a flat battery, and it should extend the battery life. Your car, and your sanity, will thank you for it...
The heat could be debris in the ducts/debris in the heat exchanger itself. Not on the inside, just the radiator portion of it. It's a pretty common issue with older cars and cars that are parked under trees for a long time.
Use an impact socket next time and it should work wonders. If even that doesn't work, wax and heat is the best penetrant, Id only use pb blaster and other penetrants on heat sensitive parts that you can't melt the wax with. Even a crayon work and it cleans up a lot easier than petroleum products IMO. Machine shops love wax for penetrants, always keep a spare crayon on me.
Matt, do a Giveaway on the 996 with some shirt/merch sales, it seems to work for every other youtuber. I bet a ton of people would buy a shirt for that car!
I’m surprised they didn’t mention the ridiculous wheels on your Chevrolet truck in the Porsche PPE of the 996. Pretty sure I’m watching the right channel!!?? lol
frist heating the axle nut for a longer time (at least it looks like that as depicted in the video) - then reusing and tightening them with the impact? pleas do no do this stuff again the heat if to much is introduced (and that can happen dast with those blow torches) can easily damage the seals on the wheel berings and the tightening torque of the axle nut sets the preload of the wheel bearing - to low or to high preload can wear out the wheel bearing prematurely

Those extra long studs gotta go..lol
For real they are terrible-looking.
Those wheels are all a mess.

Yeah they have to go
Use a 50/50 mix of acetone and atf for rusted nuts, it works for me every time. Project Farm approved.
Hagel's brew... good stuff that you can make for pennies.
that is beyond impressive that Porsche couldn't find anything. Hats off to your attention to detail!
The cut away to the fire in the garage report was hilarious!😂😂😂😂😂
PORSCHE CENTER CAPS ALREADY!!!!
I would agree, but I'm not going to bother because I'm selling it.
@@matt13rossin a way I feel like I prefer the matching centre caps to the wheels, looks nice
@@matt13rossselling where and when?
I work over at that dealer, loved seeing the car roll around the lot its beautiful!
Small world, that's awesome!
Bro...I think you need to keep both. I always hated the 996 but DAMN! 🔥
You've definitely got me sold on a pair of the quick jacks. So sick of the floor jack ops. Keep up the great work, we enjoy the content!
Thanks! Those are the absolute best option for a small garage like mine.
😂 That added news clip about the garage fire 🔥 cracked me up! Great videos!
That report just goes to show you did a great job rebuilding the 996 Matt.
Validation!!! Congrats, Matt! I guess you have a buyer if you’re doing a PPI.
that's alright we wont judge just bring it by to ayers auto spa if you are ever in Texas
shame to see the 996 go! but understandable from your point of view. again plenty of fixes. i love this channel so much lol
I had Porsche do a ppi on a macan I bought from carvana, I was very impressed with their thoroughness, I would recommend it to everyone.
lol I love when you say torque to spec, I think about that all the time now when I put on bolts
Hey Mat,
All your hard work has paid off......that 996 looks stunning in yellow & sounds great too! 👍🔥🔥👍

I do have a trickle charger but sometimes have it on other vehicles.
@@matt13ross You need a sponsorship from CTEK, lol 🙂
Incredible nicely done!
You need a 996tt vs 997tt comparison video before the sale!

Idk it seems PLENTY hot to me lol
Great testament to your skill and dedication Matt that the PPI came out so clean.
Heat is probably the ol blend door issue everybody has.
Was just going to say the same thing!
A mid height car lift would he a good addition to your garage, would mean accessing under your vehicles would be easier.
That's a dang good PPI report! Kudos!
Thank you!

I don't have an impact socket that size, hence the chromey

I would lose a LOT of money lol
Just started watching your channel. Are you near Lancaster PA? That Porsche dealer looked a lot like the one along rt30
Degrees the condenser anything with a fin. More air flow more horsepower 😊
Damn amazing job 151K Miles!!!
Well done!
You killed it!
Impact sockets for impact work? Chrome shatters? You know this? Hence the eye protection?
I don't have an impact socket that size.
Good news and nice work 👍🏼🔥
Thanks!
Hey Matt what type of cleaner did u use in your last video to clean your new exhaust to get all your finger prints off. Thx
🔥🔥
Sounds like you got an ‘A’ on your test! Great work sir. :-)
Torqued to spec, cross threaded, or ugga dugga - tight is tight 🫡
Hope you torqued the drive shaft screws😮
Oh course!!!!
Skip to 16:45 for inspection results.
Cheatin
Love how you closed your garage door to not wake up the neighbours after cold starting 3 loud cars🤣🤣
Use an impact socket for those axle bolts
I don't have one that big.
Great job!! One of these days i will own a 911 platform of some kind....lol
Thanks! And the prices only go up, so get one now!!!! lol
No need for the heater on days with the windows down!
Should torque axle nuts with suspension loaded.
Splurge on an induction bolt heater...
"go ahead and torque this thing to spec* "
*Jiffy lube drain plug spec
Hell yes!
I need to do the front axles on my 2003 C4S, which are the same as the turbo. I want to torque the front bolts. You just used your impact gun?
Yup lol. It's never failed me before, never had an axle nut back out.
HEAT Always the solution in restos. Or, in my case, heat and a 8 foot breaker bar.
I CANNOT believe you put the front piece of “frunk” trim back in without giving it the ole window cleaner treatment. You totally cheated us!!!
I cleaned it after
Use an IMPACT SOCKET IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
What's up w the lug stud length?
You should have kept the uncircumcised shifter
Not bad for a dude in his garage making RUclips videos!
That's right!
Well, it's torqued to *A* spec. Is it the right one, who knows, but tight is right! lol
Didnt you sell the LS e36? Its in the first part of the video
No I had it at my friend's home for about a year. It's back now!
@matt13ross nicee! I've built me one for myself as well. 6.0 in a e36 Fun cars man. Keep up the great work man
Hey Matt impact sockets do the trick every time thank us later
I don’t have one that size lol.
You need impact sockets on the impact gun !!!!!!!!!!!!
for some reason, I enjoyed the e36 LS swap better....
I got a shoutout/screen grab, yuuussss***
Keep both and get rid of the cheap BMW’s
Man they must've really not liked the "high performance" brake fluid.
Where did ypu get axle spacers?

Don’t forget to throw those truck wheels in the trash while you’re at it 10:36
NOOOOOO
Lol keeping my.996 turbo because of you I can't afford to clean 997, lol
i wonder why the axle nuts were stuck
23 years old is my guess
Can you raffle it? Id love a chance to own it but cant afford it

Oh…now it’s doudou…told you
Is this going on BaT? Do you have a number in mind yet? When will it be for sale?
$250 for a multi point inspection - nice.
I will buy one of those damaged front axles if interested in selling.
I think I trashed them

I have some OEM 996 carbon fiber trim pieces for sale if you're interested. Hit me up.
I’ve got a nice $100 bill with your name on it
100 a day for 500 days lol
Can we nickname it “SpongeBob?”
Before you sell, we need a full video of you comparing the 996 and 997
That's my next video!
How much are you asking for it? 😅
$50K
That side marker is hideous 😂
The one I removed?
I thought you sold the 996?
Not quite yet. In the process though.
Nice work
Ah yes, just some dude and his Porsche

no

Yes, as the axle has cv joints attached, making it a driveshaft 😅

LOLOL yup
The 997 is soooooooooooooooooooo sexy
Someone needs to redesign the headlights and sell it. It’ll sell well. The headlights spoils everything about the car
