I’ve come to the conclusion that “trendy” doesn’t always equal flattering, and “un-trendy” can be very flattering. Skinny jeans on some body frames are the most flattering cut; I find them to be my personal favorite, as well as being the most practical style as a mom of little ones. They’re so easy to style and I can wear any shoe from flip flops, heels, booties, rain boots and snow boots - they all work and what busy mom doesn’t want easy like that ;) They never left my wardrobe!
Yes yes YES! WEAR THOSE SKINNY JEANS!One blogger said there is no reason to wear our skinny jeans again! I don't know about others but I can't just get rid of all my jeans and buy new ones. Plus I think some tops and jackets pair better with skinny jeans. Thank you Marne for saying it is alright to wear them!
Well she needs to watch this video, because there are DEFINITELY reasons to wear skinny jeans. Clearly this is not a woman who stands in muddy fields watching her kids play sports. 🤣
So True, I admit, I did get rid of my extra skinny jeans, but skinny jeans look nice on me, especially with boots, the new trend wide jeans look, just does not work for me, so glad this video was done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes! I mean, I never did wear jeggings, but they’re different than skinny jeans. Skinny, straight, modern straight…all the jeans…if you feel you look good in whatever style, wear them! Funny, I saw a couple influencers say they’re not really worn a lot anymore, along with the booties that have cutouts…and then I see them worn in subsequent videos 🙄
I think there is a time and occasion for every style jeans. I will wear skinny jeans as long as I can style them appropriately. In the midst of winter they are still great with cute boots and an oversized sweater.
Gm - just the video I needed today! As a PK, teacher I prefer to wear jeans to work. I really want to be pulled together and skinny jeans with a cardigan work for me. At 5’3” some of the baggie styles are overwhelming. And 172K subscribers - Anyone else feel like ‘our’ channel is exploding? Congratulations Marnie ❤
I really haven’t given a flying fig if skinny jeans were “in” or not, I’ve continued to wear them. Straight jeans are OK, but you’re right, the shoe thing throws me off. I live in a northern state and skinny jeans work better, because we are wearing boots and snow boots now. For me, booties can be OK, but it depends on the weather. People should not get so hung up on trends. Just do you.
For us petite people wide leg, balloon style or very cropped straight leg don’t work. I’m 5’2” 112#, 54, straight to slightly hourglass shape and those styles with a lot of fabric are so overwhelming. I like skinny jeans that fit a bit looser so I size up one size (and bonus the waist is loose and comfy), and it looks more like a fitted straight jean. I like the slim straight jeans also and one of the best ones are from the Gap. A looser sweater on top and I’m set. Also rose has to do so much with body type. I’m a little short waisted so when I’m a bit thinner and less curvy low rise at 8-8.5 inches works best. When I’m a bit fuller midrise, about 9.5-10 inch rise works great. And all stores and all Jean manufacturers still have a ton of skinny jeans for sale. Thanks for all the style tips.
Thank you for mentioning that the Gap has short waisted jeans. I have an hour glass figure and am short waisted and the "sand shifts" based on my weight. I have found a slightly curvy fit at Eddie Bauer years ago and they also offered it in a baby boot in the winter.
Marnie, i’m so happy you devoted a video to skinny jeans. I agree with you completely. They have never gone out of style and will not go out of style - in particular, as you said, those that are not too too skinny or skin tight. I also love, love your makeup in this video and I hope you will be doing another makeup get ready with me again soon. And regarding cardigans and cardigan sweater sets, they will always be a timeless and relevant clothing item. As you said, they are not currently “on trend” or “trendy,” but they are a classic piece that will never go out of style. Hope the holiday season is going well for you . All the best to you and your family! ~Janis
I am a petite (5'3" 110") 52 yo woman and find it challenging to find non-skinny jeans that are properly scaled for my size. I feel skinnies are forever classic, think Audrey Hepburn and ballet flats. If a brand doesn't offer petite, I buy skinnies labeled "cropped " and the length is perfect.
@@StylewithSerena I loved my skinny jeans and wore them all the time! I have to admit though, I've been wearing more straight leg styles lately, and I've been really loving straight leg pants/trousers. I am 77 yrs young, barely 5'2" ,113 lb. and also have longer legs for my height. It is a challenge to find the right length, but with any jeans that have a raw hem, I've just been cutting them!
Love this video - thank you for saying skinny jeans are not dead! Whoever said they are dead has no idea about what is flattering or what is practical. I'm shorter (5'3") and curvy (size 6/8) with an hourglass figure with evenly distributed weight and anything that flares out at the bottom of my pants makes me look frumpy and stout. No thanks! I love your options of how to stay modern and up-to-date with the "out of style" skinny jeans.
YES! AMEN!!👏👏👏👏 I'm glad you said it!!As I'm getting ready for Church I'm having the skinny jean conversation with my husband, while I'm putting on my skinny jeans, and then I look and here's you video!🤣 Yes to all the reasons why skinny jeans are not out or will they ever be, especially for short women like me! They just look better and are easier to style!! And when I go out shopping it's mostly what I see!! I did finally get a pair of bootcut jeans and I do like them, but skinny are my go to!😁
I agree that we should wear WHATEVER we want! I love seeing trends & what everyone else is wearing but ultimately know what works best for me. And my fab 60yo self is going to rock it!😉
Europe is considered very fashion forward and we always tend to follow their trends and I was recently in Spain at a university setting and mostly everyone was wearing skinny jeans, women and men. I was like hot damn, I am breaking those babies back out!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you for saying this! Skinny jeans are Not out. What else will I wear with my Sperry duck boots, or mid-calf suede Bear Paws? It gets too damn cold here in Ohio.
I only wear skinny jeans. Being so petite in height and weight, they make me look “longer.” 😂Now I can appreciate a boot cut, they just do not look as good in my opinion. I really relate to what you said re wearing skinny jeans due to being easier with boots - I live in boots and they just go better with skinny jeans
I had to chuckle at the riding boot. I’m a horse owner and ride English (hunter/jumper) and we wear riding boots (just below the knee) when we ride. Been doing that for 20+ years and will most likely continue. So I get off my horse and then go run my errands (and yes, I probably smell like horse).
Thanks for affirming my opinion that skinny jeans aren’t dead! And of course, to wear what you think looks good! I just wish we could pull out the chunky knits, well, any knits at this point! Lol. Here’s to wearing shorts at Christmas! 😂😂 great video!
I thought I would never wear skinny jeans but now it's the only style I like on my body type. Great advice. Also, I wondered about the button-up/button-down issue. From what I read, a shirt that has buttons on the collar is a button-down. A shirt without buttons on the collar is a button-up. It comes from England's original polo shirts when the men needed to keep their collars from blowing up while playing. So, a button was put on the collar to "button-down" the collar. It was brought over to American and we now have the more common shirts of today. It has nothing to do with the actual buttons going down the shirt, instead with the collar.
Finally!! Common sense for Skinny Jeans!! I have not put mine away because I like them tucked into a knee high boot. I also agree that proportion is key. The oversize look is so great with fitted Skinny Jeans and leggings. Sometimes I find using straight leg jeans a bit on the frumpy side. Over all, I find styling Skinny Jeans pretty easy. Thank you Marnie. Happy Holidays!!!!
Thank you for this video, I still love my skinny jeans. They will never go out of style. Same for the riding boot, I'll wear mine til the end of time because I find them so flattering with leggings. Also, love seeing how many subscribers you have now. I've been watching you for almost a decade and you always put out high quality, helpful, smart and very enjoyable content.
I see women wearing skinny jeans all the time. I’m glad to continue wearing them because I’m under 5’ and t hey are flattering. I can wear flared jeans provided they are skinny up top and just flare at the knee, but shoes become an issue, so again I always seem to have shoes to wear with the skinnies. Thx for doing this video because it clarifies a lot.
Technically speaking a button down refers to a shirt that has a collar that buttons down. A button up is any shirt the buttons up all the way in the front. 🤷♀️
Love this video! (Ohio here, to me, button down meant that the collar had buttons that “buttoned down” the collar). Though the vernacular seems to have changed.
Hi Marnie, I agree skinny jeans are still in. I’m slowly adding others jean styles to my wardrobe though I wear skinny jeans more or leggings. Thanks for the video. Love and kindness, Teresa
Growing up .. “button down” shirt was a proper shirt with the little buttons, buttoning down the collar otherwise it was just a shirt, as in a cotton Oxford vs a Oxford button down … blouse was a dressier woman’s top .. 🤷🏼♀️
Omg!!! Thank you!!! I’ve tried and tried to wear the straight and wide leg jeans this winter and looked terrible. I could style the cropped straight jeans in the summer and fall but living in NE Ohio couldn’t pull them off when the temps dropped!!! I’m pulling my skinny jeans back out of storage and rocking them!!!! 😘😘😘
Hi Marnie, This was such a helpful video! So glad to know the skinny jean is still in style. I am 5ft 7 and I like this jean and the way it looks with different tops. I always look back on the video you did years ago on casual outfits with denim and hoping you can do another one. The other advantage to skinny jeans is they take less space when traveling.
Thank you! I am almost 6 feet tall and skinny jeans are way more forgiving when the inseam is a bit short. And I wear black skinny jeans so much as I can dress them up for work and still be comfy. (Elementary Teacher here. 😂)
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am a new subscriber and am so happy I found you! I am 5' 3"" and weigh about 115. I can get away with a boot cut but the baggier jeans look ridiculous on me. I am sticking with my skinny jeans!
Riding boots will always be a timeless classic for me. Ditto on pretty much everything said in this video, except I am NOT a fan of the chunky booties. What is your fave brand in those chunky booties, because honestly anytime I try some on at stores, they look ridiculous on me 😹…it might just be me
Can I just say as a 48 year old mama of a Millennial and Gen Z’er….. 👏🏻👏🏻HECK YEAH 👊🏻 Thank you for making this video and reminding all of us to proudly “do us”😉 Trends come and go but personal style is personal… I LOVE my skinny jeans 👖🥰
I follow trends, when they make sense to me, but in general I agree to wear whatever you want whenever you want. I have always worn wide leg pants because they balance my tall (5’9 1/2”) curvy body but have been very happy they have been trending because I’ve bought so many! LOL This is my first fall/winter back in my office since 2019 so it’s funny you posted this as I literally just wore skinny jeans with riding boots to work last week. I do like chunky sweaters/cardigans and have also worn these in the past. As far as a normal cardigan I have them in every color and feel they are classic especially in a cold office in a corporate environment. At 51 I’ve been through many trends multiple times so I just add new items I like but keep my classics and do what’s right for me. Thanks for being real and relatable.
Hi Marnie! Great video. I'm in the age group above yours. I agree, skinnies are not going anywhere, because I'm comfortable not going along with some trends I've already done once. lol. Just wanted to say I really like the curvy version of jeans as well as the higher rise as my muffin tops are beginning to give me the business. Ha. Also, on the button down shirts, that refers to the collars. At least that's what it meant in the 80s. Thanks again for tips on keeping things updated.
Be carful people...influencers get paid to push new trends! I love my selection of skinny jeans! I see no reason the fall back into the frustration of trying to find perfect fitting jeans, Trends come and go...but I am not letting go of what I look and feel good wearing.
Thank you for the video and ideas! I love the full tuck bloused. Going to try that one. I walked away from skinnies as other styles felt fresher, but as you say with skinnies, styling doesn't challenge my grey matter! Felt so great to pull them back out and they are flattering.
Finally! A reasonable and informative take on a wardrobe staple. I needed this today. My skinny jeans really DO have a place and a purpose in my everyday work life. I am a private piano and voice teacher who goes into beautiful homes to teach children and adults. I feel compelled to look my best and have it all pulled together. Skinnies still work with so many looks and I am glad you solidified what I was already thinking. Some great new suggestions too. ❣️
I am embracing all cuts of jeans and trousers at age 49. I came here to say that you CAN tuck jeans or trousers with a fuller leg into tall boots! It is totally ok to have a lil bit of fabric at the top of the boot, in my opinion, and I'm seeing a lot of this trend.
I’m 5’3” & 110 lbs. My husband is 6’6” & 240. I bought a shacket. My 21 yr. old granddaughter asked in all seriousness if I was wearing her granddaddy’s shirt. I took it off & gave it to her. 😂 I, also, will not be buying anything else oversized!
I realize I’m being a contrarian but skinny jeans, particularly on women over 50 (like myself), date you. Updating your denim is the quickest way to be current fashion wise.
I love my skinny jeans because I'm on the heavier side something that fits closer to the body makes me look slimmer I've tried on and compared with other styles straight leg, boot cut etc. but I look much better in skinny and I do buy waist high they keep in the muffin top and I get the most compliments when I wear my skinny's, now skinny ppl do look good in straight and boot cut no doubt. I'm 70 ppl say I don't look it I wear makeup and keep my hair cut and styled and keep up with fashion not teen fads of course but classy! In fact tomorrow I'm wearing my skinny's with a blue plaid funnel neck sweater like the one you showed previously on a video I found one on Talbots online and I really like it.
The slim jean is the modern skinny, the super tight skinny jeans definitely look more dated and the slim jeans still look great with taller boots. I haven't been able to wear my skinny jeans since wearing my straight leg, slim, wide leg, and flair leg jeans because now they just feel so uncomfortable to me😂 Of course I tucked them away in a drawer because everything comes back in style😘
Great video! I’m be been struggling with the shoes and straight leg jeans. I use ‘button down’ when talking about the shirts that have a button down collar. I ‘think’ 😂 I use button up otherwise. Happy Sunday!!
Totally agree, Marnie. While I like the new jean trends, I’m not throwing away my skinnies. Sometimes they’re exactly what I need/want-as you say, with knee high boots, over the knee boots, booties, rain boots-skinny all the way!
Hi Marnie, Good tips on how to look good in skinny jeans. I usually wear boot cut jeans because I thought I couldn't wear skinny jeans. Next time I go to try jeans on I'll try on a pair of skinny jeans to see if they work for me. Thanks for the fun, helpful video. xoxo, Karen
THANK YOU!! for this video!! I'm definitely ordering those skinny jeans asap! I also saw they have what looks like a cute pair of faux leather leggings, which I have been looking for! Just wondering if anyone has purchased them from WHBM? The reviews were mixed on size but I'm thinking of ordering a size up - but I'm not sure if that'sa good idea or not! Anyone have advice on that? :) P.S. I wore knee high riding boots and a corduroy shacket just today! Haha
Please do a video on wearing a white button down alone and also layering it with other things, cardigans, blazers, different jean styles, black pants etc.😊
Honestly for the last 20 years or so, anything goes AND ...white is no longer reserved for Spring and Summer seasons. I've never been interested in being "trendy". I don't have the time, money nor interest 😊 I'm from San Antonio and have always called the buttoned, long sleeved shirts, " button down". I think it may be a generational thing because my 30 year old daughter insists on calling them "button up" shirts. I'm still working on her because, you tend to button from the top, downward 🤷🏼♀️😁❤️🇨🇱
I am 5 foot four and I am 56 years old. I went from a tight size 12 in jeans to a size 8 so I had to go and buy some more jeans. I did get skinny‘s straight leg and boot cut
I bought a pair of Good American jeans with the distressing. liked the fit but found the distressing too much, I took a stretchy nude fabric with silver lurex strips going thru it and sewed in the distressing. Looks great
Love your content but have to respectfully disagree. For those of us over 50, skinny jeans do not flatter 95% of us, at all! Especially those of us for whom our legs are our problem area. Even on gorgeous you; the above looks are fine but not your best or most flattering. Just my opinion.
haha button down def: from the eighties yuppies, the button down shirt was a classic oxford cloth staple with a collar that literally buttoned down over the sock tie, hence the name "button-down".
If I see it and I like it- I get it. I see and hear about trends but it honestly means nothing to me- I just need to like it and it needs to fit well. IN AND OUT FASHION…. Who the hell decides that 😂.
Ive been able to curate a variety of cuts of jeans. I wear wide leg, flare, cropped, boot cut and most definitely my skinnys… i love my tall boots in the winter and i only wear them with the skinny jeans. Im not leaning towards any extremes I like the variety of cuts iust mixing and matching things. Im not too keen in tucking a lot of material into tall boots, just looks sloppy
I think a button down shirt refers to a “button down” collar, and the button up refers to a shirt that buttons up the front maybe without buttons at the collar? Just a thought, I’m certainly not an expert, lol! Great job, by the way 🎉
J-Lo was just wearing them over Thanksgiving, looking as cutting edge as usual, its in her Thanksgiving Instagram video -the pic caption where she is wearing a hat.
I like skinny jeans with ballet flats, but in winter I always wear them with socks and sneakers. I hate having cold ankles so I won't give up my socks!
I will always wear skinny jean's as my curvy figure does not look good in baggy jean's. Thank you for saying skinny jean's are not out of style. That being said if I really thought they were I still am wearing them as that's what makes me happy. Love all these styling ideas. I live in Florida so I do love the ankle jean's best. New to your channel. Have a blessed weekend.
I love there are so many options. I will not, under any circumstances, stop wearing riding boots with skinnies but I really like the straight leg and slouchy with sneakers.
To clarify the button down shirt refers to the collar that has tiny buttons on it. Traditionally, it was a man’s shirt that was more casual, and he wore it with a tie, whereas a dress shirt did not have buttons on it, and was born with a tie clasp or tie bar. Very popular in the 70s and 80s as a preppy look, girls began to wear them much more frequently with the buttons undone, and the collar popped ❤ co-ed from the eighties 😊
For those of us in the north (I live in Michigan) skinny jeans are where it’s at especially in winter ! Tucked into true snow boots etc. - a snowy/wet jeans at your feet are the WORST ! 💖💚

I only wear skinny jeans. I have casual, dressy and all colors it's what I feel comfortable in.
Just wear a skinny jean like you would wear a leggings. That’s your best bet.
What is your fave brand in those chunky booties, because honestly anytime I try some on at stores, they look ridiculous on me 😹…it might just be me
I linked my current favorite pair in the description box! They’re from Amazon!
Thank you!!!
Can I just say as a 48 year old mama of a Millennial and Gen Z’er…..
👏🏻👏🏻HECK YEAH 👊🏻 Thank you for making this video and reminding all of us to proudly “do us”😉
Trends come and go but personal style is personal… I LOVE my skinny jeans 👖🥰
Rock on!
I'm not getting rid of my skinny jeans - no never! I have skinny legs and wearing mom jeans just doesn't do it for me.
I follow trends, when they make sense to me, but in general I agree to wear whatever you want whenever you want. I have always worn wide leg pants because they balance my tall (5’9 1/2”) curvy body but have been very happy they have been trending because I’ve bought so many! LOL
This is my first fall/winter back in my office since 2019 so it’s funny you posted this as I literally just wore skinny jeans with riding boots to work last week.
I live in Michigan and I personally think skinny jeans work better with winter boots.
Yes! Thank you!
Thank you so saying skinny jeans are still in! I really like them! I’m 5’2 and 63 and these work so well for me
I love my skinny jeans I’m short and I never have issue with length in skinny jeans. I’m NOT a fashion model I’m a 48 yr old momma in Maine lol.
My kind of girl!!
Give it a shot!
I hate oversized anything- sweaters, blazers, etc. You won't catch me dead in a shacket.
THANK YOU! I’m so glad you made this video!
Skinny jeans don’t work for me because my knees are to big……..I would love to find a plus size that fits right. 😊
Before you know it you’ll be busting out your low rise embellished jeans from the early 2000s! 🤣
@@MsGoldgirl 🤣
I am with you. I prefer slim or straight not skinny.
No waffle knits please
Great video! I’m be been struggling with the shoes and straight leg jeans.
I use ‘button down’ when talking about the shirts that have a button down collar.
I ‘think’ 😂 I use button up otherwise. Happy Sunday!!
I am a skinny jean 71 year young lady 😃 I feel my best in skinny jean Great video 👍👍
Thanks for the fun, helpful video. xoxo, Karen
Chicagoland here. We do call it button up here in Da Region. 😀
I wonder where I got that phrase from…
THANK YOU!! for this video!! Haha
They’re dead to me, especially yoga pants being worn outside gym should be sooo dead!
I don't have the time, money nor interest 😊
I'm from San Antonio and have always called the buttoned, long sleeved shirts, " button down". I think it may be a generational thing because my 30 year old daughter insists on calling them "button up" shirts. I'm still working on her because, you tend to button from the top, downward 🤷🏼♀️😁❤️🇨🇱
This is soooo helpful
I am 5.1 and this straight, ankle length is NOT working well for me
I am 5 foot four and I am 56 years old. I went from a tight size 12 in jeans to a size 8 so I had to go and buy some more jeans. I did get skinny‘s straight leg and boot cut
Very helpful! love skinny jeans, thank you
You speak on behalf of all women who love denim jeans particularly skinny. You' re definitely right
Genzy influencer... 😆🤣😅 I love skinny jeans no Genzy influencer is going to change my mind!! ❤️☺️
Great video n yes to what u say about wear what u like n feel good in 👍
I love this channel...finally! guidance for women over 50 :))))
I say button up
I'm down to two skinny jeans, denim black and charcoal..I'm not missing then al all..
I hate skinny jeans! Im in great shape for my 63 years, but skinnys make me look fat and frumpy. Happy to see them go away.
Thank you for making this very helpful video. 💕
Really a pity everything becomes a uniform. Yep wear what ever you want
No other jean looks good with UGGS than a pair of skinny jeans!!!
Idc I'm wearing skinny jeans but I like the straight legs too
I think that a button down shirt might refer to a shirt that has a button down collar??
I will always wear skinny jean's as my curvy figure does not look good in baggy jean's. Thank you for saying skinny jean's are not out of style. That being said if I really thought they were I still am wearing them as that's what makes me happy. Love all these styling ideas. I live in Florida so I do love the ankle jean's best. New to your channel. Have a blessed weekend.
You are so welcome!
East Texas here and it’s a button down shirt and always have been. Lol😊
I like You. You are georgious. So smart. Good luck. Robert
The term "button down" refers to the collar. Does it have buttons on it?
Thanks , I agree still love my skinny jeans
I think anything and everything since style depends on how you put it together
I literally agree with absolutely everything you said hahah. You rock. I’m subbed now!
Thanks Jenn!
Wear what looks good and do your own style...trends are just ideas
Its hard for bustie women to wear some tops ..so wear ehat lolks good
I love there are so many options. I will not, under any circumstances, stop wearing riding boots with skinnies but I really like the straight leg and slouchy with sneakers.
I wish I could pull that look off! Like seeing it on other people!
a snowy/wet jeans at your feet are the WORST !
💖💚
YES!!!
