My concern with some of these looks is the impact of fast fashion on the workers and the environment. I know clothes are expensive, but I wonder if we are better off with less of high quality and ethically sourced clothes instead of a $50 blazer from Walmart. I have a very tiny condo with a tiny closet, so when I buy something (which isn't very often) it has to be a classic and it has to last.

Marnie, this video where you explained how to take an outfit from frumpy to fabulous is such a great idea! This honestly should be a series- I think many of us have clothes but don’t know how to style them. It is especially irritating when i buy new pieces that look good by themselves but I have a tough time making them look “right” when I wear them out. It would be helpful to see how to wear the new straight leg pant style with shoes and look current not like we stepped out of the 90’s.

I am 62 and am from a generation that felt elastic or a drawstring waist is a sign that you had just given up🤣. Just can't embrace wearing them for anything other than exercise or lounging (I own a couple pair). I stick with denim or a casual trouser, maybe cargo pant without the drawstring. You can even find pairs with hidden elastic in the back for comfort.

    • @MsGoldgirl

The problem is the shoelace dangles right pointing to your belly. NO on the light suede cowboy boots with the straight shoelace jogger pants which do not look like jeans at all. Try a belt with the 2nd black outfit. .

Love this format. Outfit #1 couldn't be saved IMO. I just don't care for the drawstring cropped look. If the shoes were a Chestnut color rather than chocolate brown, it would have been better. I also liked the lighter pink blazer better, maybe in a size 8 since the 6 was too snug feeling. I loved the faux leather joggers and cream top on you. Question: I don't see you wearing belts with jeans much. Why ? I think sometimes it's a nice add. Keep up this format! Loved it!

I agree about the front tuck. Though for me I've found it all depends on how high the rise is. If the rise is too low it can be a no-go for me. Also, the front tuck is so great for any elastic waist or drawstring waist pants. Really de-frumps the whole thing.

Interesting video, thanks for filling us in on your thought process for improving your look. I noticed some of the tops are too long in the torso and sleeves. I’m only 5’1” and know how frustrating this is, especially when petites are not available in a jacket or top I like. I finally tired of rolling up my sleeves, which IMO makes me look frumpy. In Sept I gathered up a bunch of jackets and took them to a local tailor to shorten the sleeves. What a difference that made in how I look and feel in these jackets. Torso length is still an issue, but picking the right pieces can help.

More videos like this! I really like seeing the evolution (and honesty) of when you start with an outfit and determine it's not working, whether color, proportion, shoe, or even fit like the last blazer (which did indeed look great on you, but rather than let looks trump function or comfort, you flat out said it didn't feel good being restricted and opted for one that looked just as good BUT you felt much better in. (Chuckled when you mentioned your pooch 'is what it is'. ) Keeping it real. TY

I love that you made the point that if you feel good in your outfit, you will stand taller and walk out the door smiling-- this is so true for me and I even walk a little faster and with a little kick in my step! It makes all the difference! Also agree with giving the front tuck a try-- I am in the process of losing weight (down 50lb but more to go) -- my belly does protrude more than I want and the front tuck balances it and actually makes me look thinner and shows off my weight loss.

You’re absolutely right. I’m a huge fan of the tucked in and bloused button front or t-shirt. It always makes my tummy look smaller. Sometimes it is only a front tuck, and sometimes you can see my belt buckle, but I almost always blouse the front out a little

I liked your background of the family room with the exception of the blanket rack. I found it distracting.

You are so right about the blazer. Nothing will ruin my day faster than a jacket that feels like a straight jacket or makes me hot. I find I avoid wearing most of my blazers and I have a closet full of them because they feel like I’m wearing a wet blanket.

I find this type of video so helpful and interesting. Those jeans were made for you! I really enjoy hearing your thought process. It encourages me to do the same for myself. Often it is the little changes. RUclipsr Hannah Louise Poston advocates picking your “star” piece ( the item you really want wear) and then building the outfit around that. Helps to keep you focused. It find it a very helpful tip. I finally ordered the no-tie laces, thanks for the reminder 😉🇨🇦

I am so glad you said what you said about wearing a tight top if you're wearing loose bottoms. I heard that suggestion or line of thought a while ago and have tried to follow that "rule" , and it definitely does not work for me everytime! Plus, I'm smk on top and a tighter fit isn't very flattering. It's good to challenge the rules of thumb sometimes. Thanks Marnie. 🌟

Loved all the outfits. They looked great. However, I do not like color wash on the flare jeans. Just looks super outdated. I know these things go in and out of style, but to me this is one of those things that are never in style. It makes them look cheap. They need to be lighter or darker, but for me these don’t look high end at all. The flare cut is so fabulous on you. Loved everything, except this one tiny thing.

I like almost all washes of denim (except for very pale/acid wash). There’s not just one single tone, they all ‘have their place’ and the ones she wears here are fine by me.

As soon as I originally saw your reel with the black corduroy outfit, I ordered it for myself in the pink. Love the comfort & feel of it, but I’m thin and petite. It looks ridiculous on me, but I still kept it. I did wear it with a tank, but buttoned jacket back up. I’ll try unbuttoned. I’m definitely going to keep wearing it. It’s SO comfortable, but I will be more conscious of WHERE I’m wearing it. 😂 Thanks, Marnie!

LOVED this video Marnie! Thank you SO much! I appreciated you sharing what was going on in your head and hearing your suggestions and strategies to make it work and come together. I get very frustrated trying to pair clothing into an outfit and end up taking everything back off and throwing it angrily onto the floor of my closet! BTW~ The pale pink blazer from WHBM looked awesome on you...perhaps comfort would be restored if you sized up?? Just a thought! Have a great wknd with Michael!
