Guppie breader here, and You probably already know this, but the male is actually trying to encourage her to give birth so he can eat the live young, he does this by prodding her underneath, she is clearly very much already pregnant for sure, I would suggest moving her into a birthing box but that defeats the point of your experiment, but for anyone watching with guppies at home then I'd definitely recommend a birthing box for the little ones , watching guppies give birth is amazing to watch no matter how many times I see it it still amazes me

Baby Guppies also do well if you can give them lots of places to hide from the adults and predators. My Brother used to use adult guppies as feeders for his Oscar. i kind of made him put in hides and lots of plants for them and our population exploded after Oscar passed we where giving them away we had so many

I thought the same thing. She's very pregnant and he wants her to give birth. Not only for food but to also breed again. Like Dan said, I don't think he knows this. I use to breed not only guppies but also swordtails, mollies and platies. It was amazing watching all of them give birth. I used birthing boxes for most of them, especially when breeding for certain colors and/or patterns.

4:48 these are called bladder snails and most people veiw them as pests because of how fast they reproduce. They are really cool and are some of my favorite creatures. I used to collect them at the lake I grew up by and put them in plastic containers to watch them mate and eat. Their eggs are like little droplets of jelly and can hatch hundreds of babies! They are called bladder snails because they have an air pocket in their shell that allows them to control their buoyancy and float up or sink. I used to have them in my fish tank and it’s so cool to watch them fly through the water to get to the surface. In a fish tank where the water is relatively calm, they can crawl upside down on the surface of the water just using the surface tension. Definitely an underrated species!

I'm I the only one that was legitimately depressed last week when we did not get the weekly dose of awesomeness, or the only one who actually goes to the channel page, refreshes the app 5 times impatient and in disbelief that the next instalment is not yet up?
And why I'm I the only one realizing just now that weevils are much cooler than I've always imagined?! That pink beauty!!!

Every saturday I'm checking the community tab to see if the episode is confirmed or cancelled for the week. It curbs the disappointment a bit when you know ahead of time.

ZOMG!!! Me too! I was so bummed. Then I was like… whoa, life has become so blah without my weekly dose of antscanada. 😂 I think I checked back like 20 times just to be sure I didn’t miss anything. I contemplated rewatching it from the beginning I was so bummed.
Also… WEAVELS! Who knew! LOL I love that ruby pink one. At first I thought it was dusted with something but then realized it was part of the lil’dude. Made me think of butterfly and moth wing dust. But zoomed in crazy close that dust resembles beautiful multitudes of iridescent scales kinda. This pink stuff looked kinda like a mossy patchwork of growth with patterns on in it up on top. Never thought of weavels as interesting other than their funny cute elephant noses before. 🤣

Wow, great video! The small aquatic insects are actually ostracods, which are aquatic crustaceans. Their bodies are found inside their round shells, which are made up of two equally sized halves. Ostracods are really common in bodies of water, and as some of their predators do include fish, it's probably reasonable to assume that their number has gone up due to the die-out of guppies, thus less predation.

Most of the queens have now laid eggs and I am super excited to raise a colony of all of these. It’s only the start of nuptial flight season as well so I have lots more to come.
