Yep, in 3 or 4 years the crocodile will be 5 foot long. He had difficulty handling the Croc at 8 inches long, they grow in every direction, in less than 6 months it will be 18 inches long, much wider and teeth much sharper and jaws much stronger. He’ll have to hire someone to remove it.
I believe this specific type of croc, called a caiman, doesn’t grow much larger than it is at the moment, though I’m not fully sure. Edit: New info after researching, I was wrong! I believe 6 feet is the maximum for caiman, but by then I think AC will probably have figured out a larger enclosure by then! 😊
@@falconsfeather6970 This species of caiman is the Spectacled Caiman. These guys actually get 8'-9' when full grown. You're correct about it being a caiman, and not a crocodile.
It will be eventually, but AC's got a 60 foot pond with plenty of chickens lol. For real though: I'm not being cute, this little guy is DEFINITELY going to grow, need a huge diet, and an EXCELLENT filter for all his "potties". It's the equivalent (per se) of raising a very large snake. For now though: HE'S JUST SO CUTE!!!
I watched half of this then my kids came in and we watched the whole episode together. They loved it! This series could absolutely be used as a great teaching tool for kids. I can imagine high school and university biology students, even junior high kids, watching this in class and discussing with the teacher. You've created a learning & education tool with this vivarium, and now you're focusing on conservation. Simply amazing. Cheers!
As far as your caiman is concerned, you're a large predator who is waiting for it to come out into the open so that you can eat it. That species grows up to six feet for males and weighs in at nearly 90 pounds so you are going to have to work at socializing it as otherwise, you're going to have a large predator which is not just capable, but possibly willing to add you to its meal plan. What you need to do is get him out of there and into an aquarium which you keep somewhere that you hang out a lot AND ensure that the aquarium is high enough up that you aren't constantly looming over him. I own a B+W Argentine tegu and when I first got him I made sure to keep his aquarium high enough up that he was eye level when I was sitting at my computer, that way he got used to me being on or even a little below his level - took about a month for him to finally feel comfortable enough to come over and watch me and two months before he didn't hide/run whenever I stood up. You're also going to have to get over your fear of handling him because he needs to get used to being handled by you NOW while he's still young and impressionable - get some thick, heavy gloves from a hardware store and let him bite you a few times so he can see that it doesn't help him as once he figures out that biting you doesn't get him the desired results, he'll stop. Hold him eye level and talk calmly to him - let him get used to the sight and sound of you. You also need to hand feed him so that he creates positive associations with you because if he's always feeding himself, then you're nothing to him at best or a threat/competition at worse. All crocodilians are difficult to tame and many can only be brought to "mostly safe" to deal with in that they'll tolerate you and usually not try to attack, but that's only if you take the time to socialize them and ensure that they at least understand that you're not their enemy. But you have to do this now while it's young, otherwise, you're going to have a large predator which is more than capable of injuring you and others quite seriously and views you as something which it should injure on your hands...at least until it removes part or all of one of your hands.
Yeah I am also not sure the enclosure in here will be anywhere near large enough for when this caiman reaches adulthood?? Maybe I'm underestimating the tank size but it seems quite small despite what the crocodile expert said. I always found it amusing that the smallest crocodilians like this also happen to be some of the more notoriously snappy. If only there was an American Alligator that only grew a few feet long they'd be great pets lol.
@@FeralSheWolf You need at least twice the length and at least equal in width to the length of a reptile (not counting snakes) for it to be comfortable, so a four foot caiman needs at least 4x8 feet, or 32 square feet of tank space. As for smaller critters being more aggressive - they're literally compensating - a ten foot gator isn't afraid of you so it doesn't feel the need to be aggressive since it knows it can easily take you while a smaller animal needs to be hyper aggressive in the hope of scaring you away. The reason why no one has bred a small, friendly gator is it takes too long to get them to breeding age and there isn't enough of a demand. Females take 10-15 years to be able to breed, meaning you're talking at least fifty years just to cycle through five generations, all the while having to deal with dozens of carnivores that are six feet plus, eat ten pounds or more of meat daily and most of whom can and will kill you if given half a chance. As such, the time, cost and risk simply isn't worth the fact that MAYBE your children or grandchildren might be able to start to reliably breed a gator that's three feet long and is less likely to try to rip your hand off every time you stick it into the tank. Nope, the reality is that a project like that is likely going to take a century of breeding or longer unless you have a billion dollar research facility GMO the gators to be small and docile...assuming that's legal. So you...or your decedents actually...have invested a century plus, along with a small fortune, into raising and breeding small, friendly gators - how big is the market going to be for a three foot aquatic reptile that's capable of degloving a finger and is still occasionally willing to do so? Sadly, small, friendly gators are going to have to remain a dream unless someone finds some undiscovered species lurking around somewhere.
@@seanfoltz7645 Oh yeah I'm not suggesting people try to breed some kind of mini gator. Just saying it's kind of funny that the chill guys are WAY too big. Even the Chinese gator's way too big for a home or the like.
@@FeralSheWolf It would be nice though as living in Florida, I did have a two foot gator get into my pool so after catching and taping his mouth shut, he was actually very well behaved and the nephews loved playing with him for the day - I removed the tape and returned him to the local river he had likely left at the end of the day. My tegu, Rexx, is pushing five feet and he's just a big, scaly cat, walking over, climbing onto the couch or chair and them plopping down on the lap of whoever happened to be sitting there for pets and scratching. So yeah, I'd love to have a species of gator which was small, manageable and friendly and allow it to have the run of my Florida room and pool enclosure personally.
Next time you need to pick the little guy up I suggest going for the shoulders/neck swiftly while restricting their arms gently, then use your second hand to support their butt. I own several lizards and frequently go herping, so I’m all too familiar with reptile handling! I would also recommend some handling and desensitisation to humans as the lil guy won’t stay little forever! Getting him used to people and hands will be beneficial in case of a vet emergency in the future! I hope this helps and I can’t wait to follow this lil guys journey!
This is sound advice! A caiman's always going to be a potential hazard to handlers, but the more familiar the routine of being removed from the water and examined becomes to it, the less stress it causes in the long run.
Great advice. I'm commenting hoping that Mikey will see this. Do you think it would be a problem for his guests especially children when he rehouses the caiman in that giant pond in the yard? Will it attack people if they get close?
@@Night-Shade. I don’t have much experience with caiman as I’m from Australia, but I’d image they are similar to crocs in regard of being territorial. They could definitely be a danger to people if they aren’t socialised, usually a few select people will be able to be in close contact with the animal. Because of the depth of the pond it’s less likely to jump out and attack but that’s something that could still definitely happen, I’d imagine he’d put up a fence so the lil guy can have a section of land and can’t get out of the pond
@@Fri3d_C0ff33 They don't seem like they are aggressive creatures. The ones at the animal reservation were very chill even when they got close to them.

This channel completely changed how I interact with RUclips. Only channel that I look out for new episodes from and always hit that like button for. Keep doing your thing AC 🙌🏼
Gonna be 100% honest, my initial reaction was “man idk that won’t be enough space for when the lil guy starts growing” and then you casually mentioned the 60ft pond in your yard. I can tell you’re going to take great care of this guy :) (crocodilians love toys and stuff to play with, so I suggest offering some thick rubber dog toys like a kong for him to knock around) ❤
Well he kept saying this was going to be temporary like only a hundred times lol. I figured he put a lot of thought in this and it’s nice he had an expert come out and scan the enclosure. Even when it’s only temporary.
Each episode is more fascinating than the last one. I have to admit I was very sad to see the sunskinks moved out of the tank. However now that you have introduced the new termites and watched the universe speak to you through that unforeseen flood, which proved to be exactly what pantdora needed, kept me watching. So looking forward to more episodes 😊
the little caiman is soooo cute!! being scared to pick him up is understandable but very funny. reptiles tend to calm right down once theyre actually in your hands and realize youre not going to eat them. with snakes and geckos, its a good idea to interact with them often (especially during their younger stanges) so that theyre easier to handle during doctor visits and such. consult your friendly croc specialists about how often you should be holding him to make those future visits easier.
My first job was at a pet shop back in the early 90's and I had all sorts of fish tanks and reptile tanks at home in my bedroom. I got a caiman as a baby and handled him every day and it was very comfortable with me. After some time I got a little bored with him because I probably got a different animal or something but I didn't pick him up for about a week and that was enough time for him to become EXTREMELY aggressive. It was about 18 inches long at this point and although I continued to try to get him back to his old tame self. it was to no avail. I ended up giving him to a friend and it grew to about 3 feet but was never able to be handled without it trying to kill you. I foresee this caiman becoming just like mine was. A ruthless killer lol.
@@Mangobattie He’s a talented terrarium maker/aquascaper who captures quality footage of his animals. He should let the footage speak for itself because he’s a terrible writer with a very poor command of English. He also anthropomorphizes like crazy, which is bad form for any educator of biology.

Been watching this guy since a kid and now that I’m grown up I realize how cool of a person irl he must be. Never knew this guy had a 60 foot pond. What an absolute legend. Lots of love for this channel
For the caiman, I was thinking “Bahamut”: a beast that lies beneath the surface, holding up the earth. In DND, he is also known as “The Dragon of Justice” so I think it fits too if you want to name him something dragon-themed. If you ever get a female for him, you can name her Tiamat❤ We all love this series!!! Keep up the good work and don’t lose faith in your projects! With a caiman, you’ve already come so far!
I know it's the obvious choice, but the love for animals and nature I have today can be entirely attributed to Steve Irwin. Naming the baby croc "Irwin" or "Steve" can educate the younger viewers of his legacy. I recognize the passion you have is very similar and it makes watching these videos a treat.
I'm so genuinely happy that you have the means to be able to build all these ecosystems and projects and have also decided to share them with us. Your home looks like a nature paradise, I wonder how many other people could do beautiful things like this given the means.
I think you should name the baby Irwin! In honor of Steve, and the education that this little baby is gonna help provide to all the AC family watchers and people of the world!

Years from now, you are going to have the coolest walk-in nature experience on earth lol
Beauty of nature For people who are being confuse of caiman Crocodiles and caiman are both members of the Crocodilia order, but each belongs to a different family group. Crocodiles are a part of the Crocodylidae family, while caimans are members of the Alligatoridae family.
Steve or Irwin.. for the og crock lover! Steve taught us to love all animals.. even the dangerous ones. It should be an honor and privilege to add an Irwin to your giant rainforest vivarium!
You probably won’t see this, but if you’re looking for more reptiles to add, I suggest anoles they are my favorite and they’re really diverse, the easiest to find are green and browns, but you could also get Cuban nights as they will be more towards the canopy but they do get bigger. They also have a cool loose colony living structure (greens and brown) which is fun to see how they interact. It’s also been documented that brown anoles world dive into the water to catch small guppies and other fish. They are quite intelligent for their size and I think they’re really silly. If you get any species eggs, I’d suggest greens, browns and crested, but if you want a little color, you could also get Allisons, but they’re more expensive.
Man, how I wish they were available in my country. They would have been the first lizards I would have added. Anoles were my first reptile pets and have a special place in my heart. I love that they can be kept in colonies. I even owned a Martinique anole at one point. Gorgeous throat displays!
@@AntsCanada aww man I didn’t know they weren’t available in certain countries but they would’ve been amazing additions, I agree. I’ve always been a big fan of watching them interact with the environment if I could save enough money I would have a giant paludarium with them and different natives

I was a little disappointed to see the canopy expansion to not continue straight up, but i realized something. It's been YEARS since i last saw your videos, watched every single one of them up until i think the black ant invasion? From the outside coming inside or how you had two levels for the ants to travel and they became their own separate colonies. I suddenly get you back in my feed and this is so surprising to hear you have a Giant vivarium all of a sudden! Never expected this lol
I vote the name Irwin As. In Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter. Especially knowing that you used to watch him when he was young. Growing up like you said earlier in the video. I love that show when I was a kid. Love the channel!!! Have a great week everyone
Muldoon would be a good name for him, after Robert Muldoon from Jurassic Park. All the references to JP, the fact that Muldoon was the game warden at JP and a skilled hunter also fit the mold.

This guy do to much so cringe😂

Cheers!
I remember seeing a comment from a 5th grade teacher saying that their class watches this every week
@@seanfoltz7645 For real!! They seem so chill lol
@@Night-Shade. Young animals are far less likely to attack someone considering the size difference, they’re more likely to try to run, a bite is a last resort :)

I love how he loved every comment but this one 🎉
the little caiman is soooo cute!! being scared to pick him up is understandable but very funny. reptiles tend to calm right down once theyre actually in your hands and realize youre not going to eat them. with snakes and geckos, its a good idea to interact with them often (especially during their younger stanges) so that theyre easier to handle during doctor visits and such. consult your friendly croc specialists about how often you should be holding him to make those future visits easier.

It is absolutely insane to me that not only do you have an amazing reptile sanctuary, but you have fantastic camera skills
Thanks for watching
There was no need to hit me with "look at that gyatt" when I'm in the middle of class

Ok
@@AntsCanada I got a 65L tank for my guppies. I think I should add a caiman, a single house fly fell in the other day.
Not to mention a moth 😱
My nitrates go crazy
@@AntsCanadaWhy just why ?! Why you add that thing in the tank ?!
Name the male Godzilla
Man, that pounce was lightning fast. Bringing in a high-speed camera for a future croc-feeding could be awesome.
As others already mentioned, the cayman could be named Irwin in honor of Steve. Itd be a nice tribute to the OG crocodilian expert.
RIP
Can we get this guy a show!!? Like not a reality show per say but like a nature docuseries or something were we also follow him around on his search for animals and learn his thought process and stuff
