I had a love hate for that show.
I liked the over arching story aspect however I hated how mean they made Velma, how dumb they made Fred, and also how selfish they made Scooby. Daphne was the highlight of the show to me, she was more based than the other characters with Shaggy at a close second.
The best version of Scooby Doo cartoon that was what could be considered a adaption/rework is What's New Scooby Doo imo. Everyone had a soft updated take that didn't make anyone unlikeable and in general improved their characters.

The main thing I find upsetting about this show is how they were even allowed to make it, and drastically change every character. Like they've just given up and letting it die.

Scooby Doo was always something I enjoyed watching on weekends as a kid, it hurts to see these characters I grew up with essentially being tarred and feathered for only one group of peoples' amusement

My thing is they already did a decent remake of Scooby-Doo by way of Mystery Incorporated. More importantly they did so by respecting The Source material, and adapting it, both for a modern context, and a serialized format. It had a deconstructionist streak, but you could tell it was coming from a place of love.
Mystery incorporated was great and had tons of good adult jokes slipped in
Mystery Incorporated was and always will be the GOAT. It lent more depth to the Gang and added new characters that blended so seamlessly within it. Plus, it didn't treat its audience like brain-dead lemmings.

Mystery Inc brought depth like u said, and character developments with a real plot to the entire series. Now i have to go back and watch it again to erase whatever crap i just saw from the not Scooby-Doo related dumpster fire.
mystery inc is truly the best of scooby and the gang. even the supernatural spinoff was funny in my opinion.

velma always was the shy clumsy nerdy girl, the thing that these writers got from that was "she would probably get bullied", the whole point why velma was a fun character is because together with shaggy they were afraid of most things while daphne and fred tried to be al cool and protect them, at the same time velma is smart and logical which fred and daphne had more problems then her. the characters are just not the same characters.

I don't remember Velma being afraid. Shaggy and Scooby were afraid while Daphne and Freddy were on the opposite end of the spectrum. Velma balanced everyone out. If the writers wanted chaos, then Velma would lose her glasses to accomodate and enhance the chaos.

It's ok if it doesn't do well commercially, in many ways it's better, because then they can claim that the only reason something like "Velma" didn't succeed is because of "racist" or "sexists" or "transphobes" or whatever particular -ist or -phobic applies.
Same thing with She-Hulk, same thing with Ghostbusters 2016, not to mention that god awful "the woman king" movie (most historically inaccurate movie of all time). Whenever I see a piece of media that's not even released and the creators are already claiming "if you don't like this thing then you're a bad person" it means they know their show or movie is garbage, and they already have their pre-programmed excuse all lined up.

Mindy Kaling played a side character in The Office that was sometimes annoying and sometimes funny. However, her character's biggest moments were not her own, but Ryan's, a character the writers also weren't really sure what to do with, and so rewrote him like four times. The two biggest moments I remember from Kaling's character (can't even remember the character's name) were when Ryan accidentally started a relationship by hooking up on February 13, and then when Ryan got his real job at corporate and dumped her without even looking at her. Other than that, she was just an average looking girl who talks too much, but thinks she's the hottest, funniest, smartest person in the room; an incredible narcissist. Somehow, that propelled her to launching The Mindy Project, in which she was basically the same narcissist, but somehow got six seasons. And now this.
Average looking? She is far below average looking.

I've said this for another review of the Velma show diversity of skin tone does not mean diversity of thought. You can have literally the same person by personality standards yet in five different skin tone packages they're the same person but in just five different colors it's like having a Ford escape and assuming there's something different with it because it's a black paint job versus a white paint job or a silver paint job or a red paint job No it's the same freaking car. True diversity is diversity of thought you can have a room full of Germans yet that room can be more diverse than any diversity scale that a leftist has ever come up with in their life.

not sure how many people remember the Fillmore! cartoon from 2002. Now that would have been a great standard reference for whatever the hell this Velma show was, that show was well written, beautifully paced, had the right combination of witty remarks, humor, and seriousness, all the while mirroring aspects from adult life.

Just as a point of fact, it's not "color-blind casting" in animation, it's a choice. It's not like someone of a different race walked into the audition and blew everybody away so you cast them, you're deciding how to draw the character from scratch.
