People will see or believe whatever they want about it, because it's actually nowhere near as complicated or deep as they think it is lol. I never watched it though, so I have no idea. God loves you unconditionally. You can read the New Testament to understand and learn more. I know God is real because before i almost ended things i asked God to help me if God was real. I ended up refraining from ending things and instead I fully committed to try and see if God was real and after 3 days of fasting, prayer, and reading the New Testament i was completely healed. My terrible addictions were taken away, my bad habits were gone, and my self hatred wasn't there anymore. I felt at peace for once. I hope you let God help you like how God did for me. God bless you. As someone who also remembers getting a voice compliment (in my case, it was from a complete stranger), I still hold the near and dear to my heart.
Funny, I have a similar memory. I'm French, and I generally unconsciously lower my voice when I speak English. A girl in my business school noticed it during a presentation, and during the feedback from the class she spoke of my "very sensual voice". Given the reaction of the class about this comment and her reaction right after, I don't think she was actually into me, but I didn't know where to put myself nonetheless. It was 15 years ago. I don't think I will ever forget it.

The best joke of the entire movie was that Ken lost interest in Patriarchy when he learned it was about more than horses. The riding on the horse head on a stick cracked me up also. Reminded me of monty python and the search for the holly grail.

I remember a girl in high school telling me I had pretty eyes. I've had compliments since then, from various relationships I've been in, friends, etc. But that was the first and I think last time a girl randomly just complemented me without any real reason too if that makes sense.
Happened to me sophomore year of high school in 2011 while I was waiting in line for a roller coaster. Never saw that girl again but I still think about her and what could have been.
First complement I ever got was a girl in school telling me my belt is cool. The belt was ugly as fuck but I still remember it 13 years later
A woman once complimented my shoes. They were crocs....when crocs were a bad thing...I still think she was being ironic. But it's probably the only "compliment" I've gotten from a woman that I wasn't in a relationship with or blood related too. So, yeah...I think I'm going to go take a bath and cry for a bit.

Literally all Ken wanted was for Barbie to be nice to him and notice him but he didn't even get that at the end. He wasn't even really interested in power, he just thought he could use it to get some respect and kindness from those who ignored him or put him down all the time
its a metaphor smart one. the kens represent women in the real world and how men hold the power and we are expected to just sit there and look good for them and our every action is for them (e.g, 'She knows exactly what she's doing by wearing that, she wants attention, etc)

I was picking up a Door Dash from KFC and I was struggling to manage the three drinks and very large bag of food. A slightly flamboyant guy employee (irrelevant except for context) offered help and put the large bag into a bigger bag that had handles. I was very grateful as is, but as I walked out the door he said "Drive safe Howie, god loves you". And for once in my life I felt like someone really meant what they said. I'm not religious at all, and I don't know how he knew my nickname (doesn't even matter at all) but dang dude, I held back real tears. This happened tonight, but I know I will remember it for the rest of my life.
You really never know how you're kindness and nice words will make a difference in someone's life and that's why I try every day to be as polite, respectful and courteous as I can.

Felt like a brainstorming turned into a movie, with a "Ok we want to be feminist but we want to do subtle feminism criticism, and we wanna be sympathetic towards the male but we also want to be asshole to him, and we want him to be an abusive boyfriend but we also want him to be likeable, and we want to say corporations are bad and don't care about you but we'll say they care too", it was weird.

I want Mattel to make "Eat, Pray, Love" merchandise along the lines of "Ken, Beach, Horse", to spread the Kenpowerment this movie inspires. Keeping it relevant so they can make a sequel: "Barbie 2: We Ken be Better", which focuses on Ken's story of self discovery, healing and growth.

Around the time I was 11, 2 girls came up to me in school and told me that some girlfriend of theirs likes me. I still don't know if it was true or not, but back then I was convinced someone was taking a piss out of me.
Ken really spoke to me, as a young man I’ve seen a lot of people base their entire worth off of their gf, or lack there of, seeing that be pointed out was awesome. Also, he’s literally me, so seeing myself on the big screen went crazy.
When we were leaving the cinema with my friends after the film one of them told me:
"It is a much better movie if you look at it as if the Kens are actually the protagonists and the whole thing is a tragedy instead of a comedy"

My favourite line in the movie was by Ruth Handler (or her double). She said “The Patriarchy? Barbie? None of it is real” when telling the OG barbie to be whoever she wants to be. Kind of like a pave your own path and not be tied down by things beyond your control. And personally I think it’s a great message for everyone watching.

As a mother of two boys, and someone who absolutely adored Barbie, I had mixed feelings about seeing this movie. So I waited to watch it at home today. Glad I waited. This movie broke my heart for today's males. You really have to be a man hater to root for the Barbies in this movie. Barbie admits she has no idea where the Kens even live, and she doesn't seem to care either. The Kens constantly work so hard to impress and earn the Barbies' attention and appreciation, and the Barbies don't care. During Barbie's dance party, all the females get amazing outfits, and all the Kens have to wear the same comparatively plain jumpsuit. The Barbies want "girls' night" every night. They don't allow the Kens any voice in Barbieland, and even during the "happy ending" the Barbies still won't allow the Kens to have equal rights and political positions within Barbieland. The Kens are oppressed so much in Barbieland that they lose their minds when they learn that in the real world men have a say in the world around them and are respected. Even when the Kens temporarily take over, their favorite thing to do is help the Barbies learn new things (which obviously is supposed to come across as mansplaining, but only seems like an effort to be helpful and nice). The Kens' major weakness is literally a female in distress and in need of help. Barbieland is the feminist fantasy world, and it is every bit as horrible as when men ran everything and women had no say in the real world. She has some ok points. Would have liked to have seen more analysis on the philosophical aspects of the movie: the cognitive dissonance speech and whatever Barbara says in the elevator. The clothes changes are smart. Could do without the juvenile hot-takes, very obviously geared toward vamping up the comment section. Also really appreciate the non-bias commentary on both sides. I watched it to the end which means she knows what she’s doing.

Legally Blonde and Erin Brockovich are some of my favourites and both are very much Barbie-coded. Both main characters are downplayed and perceived as idiots because they're conventionally attractive, which proves to be irrelevant the moment they show their skillset.
It's based on the trope where a person can't excel physically and mentally at the same time. A person who is good in academics isn't going to focus on appearance so they won't be as strong or physically attractive. A person who is physically strong or attractive isn't going to be very smart since they don't study as often.

The best way for this movie to go would have been to have the Barbies and Kens understand by the end of the movie that neither society was better off dominated by one gender over the other, and the best possible outcome was one where both sexes are respected and represented for each other's strengths and talents. They literally had it right there, but completely fumbled the ball at the end where everything went back to the way it was and the story was ultimately pointless.
I kind of agree. I was disappointed at the end when the Kens were like "can we have some Kens in congress?" And President Barbie declined and said they should take up lower ranking positions, then work their way up. I get it's a metaphor for what women have had to do/are still doing, but Barbie World isn't the real world. I wish they took that opportunity to be better than the real world.
Like a Marvel movie, they have to put the toys back in the box for a future Mattel Cinematic Universe.

Yes, this was a deep moment in the movie... I also feel zero respect from woman, except when they need something. Till I am doing that for them, I get empty talk like how important is this to them, but after that they revert back of looking through me like a piece of glass.
Well the sad part is, that from their perspective, this is logical. They will always have some men to do what they can not do, and they can also ignore us most of the time.
The respect lasts only till the favour is done.
So the Kens in this movie are pretty much how more and more man are starting to feel in their real lives.
There seems to be only 2 ways to choose from, you are either trying to be a good guy, resulting you being worthless and disrespected, or you are dominant, and aggressive, then you will have a bit more respect and you'll get some stuff, but you are an asshole.
Somehow, the third option, where you are respected for the good person you are, is dying out of society. And this is where this movie is spot on, even if I am sure it is unintentional. Not in the Barbie world, and not in real life were man simply respected and being equal.

I really took the main theme to be something like "don't pit men and women against each other." Barbieland run by Barbies isn't actually great and neither is Kendom (is that what they called it? don't recall) run by Kens. Barbies and Kens stand in for men and women. They are just people but have different struggles (Barbie feels like she has to be perfect, Ken feels neglected). They have to learn a balance. Then there's the real life side plot which comes from a female point of view but it really applies to how life in general is messy for everyone. I think there was a little bit about role models that could have been expanded on too. The daughter rejected Barbie because it was the popular thing to do and she was miserable but she cheered up after she embraced Barbie. Ken had no male role models and got confused ideas in his head about what it meant to be a man.

@@OReily08080 I don’t recall a popular comedic film where men were treating their partners instrumentally and it was considered to be a good thing. All I see is movies where men fall over themselves to gain female affection. These aren’t representations of reality, this is propaganda with a social agenda, the director stated that fact herself.

When I was in my 20s I worked in a bowling alley. It was a weekday afternoon so the only thing going on was a kids birthday party. Things were slow and I was checking in on the party "can I get you anything, etc?"
My boss came up to me (he was one of THOSE types) and just started laying into me about something, yelling, cursing me out, vein on his forehead pulsing, etc. All in front of these little kids.
Afterwards one of the moms said "You did such a great job taking care of the party. Your boss is horrible, no employee ever deserves to be treated like that, we'll never come here again. I don't know what he pays you but it's not enough." And she hands me $100.
I almost cried.
This happened 20 years ago and I still think about it occasionally. I doubt I'll ever forget it.
These are the people that come up in my mind when I think why society hasn't collapsed into itself because of all the hatred and negativity around the world.

Funny thing is… that is not really a compliment, she was just showing gratitude for serving the party and pity for how your boss acted towards you. Had she said that you were the best server she’d ever seen then that might qualify as a compliment.

In high school, two girls came up to me after gym class, sniffed my armpits, and told me my deodorant smelled like really good cologne. I have never forgotten that and still wear Oldspice Puresport to this day. Men have done things just as creepy things on the regular and I’ve been expected to stay respectful and not make a scene. I’ve had policemen invalidate sexual assaults I’ve reported and I have a lot of evidence to prove that it happened. So don’t try to act like men can easily get arrested for being inappropriate with women, it’s near impossible to successfully report an assault as a woman. No one believes us and men being gross is often passed off as just “locker room talk”. Moral of the story is that it sucks to be a man and it sucks to be a woman, we certainly don’t have it easier.
If a man would tell anyone that he get assaulted by a woman in any way, they would just tell him“just be a man“.
That‘s also the cause why so many man feel lonely and misunderstood.

When you have an endless list of shit on people and nothing is getting done, it really begs the question of how legitimate your claims are.

@@laurab1105Yet every accusation can destroy somebody life from the word of a women, cause their taken seriously (which is fine) but when it’s comes out it was fake their are no consequences for her that’s not fine. Don’t trust people based on their words only hence why a lot of reports are thrown out, CAUSE WORDS DONT MEAN SHIT LEGALLY. You are the prosecutor and burden of proof is on you, also don’t falsely accuse people especially about sexual crimes, you will ruin the victim’s life and make people paranoia to trust an actual female victim’s reports and then their more likely to throw it out. Also depending on what country your from the police may be corrupt so yea that will invalidate anything I’ve said beforehand.
