Listening to this, I’m thinking of a head cannon where Scooby and the real Shaggy are alive but their friends have turned into *this* and they’re trying to save them from this horrible fate
I keep hearing reviews ask "who is this for?". The answer is easy, the show is for Mindy and the people in her circle. Show creators, actors and writers are so detached from the rest of us. They make shows for themselves and get upset at us for not liking it.
The fact that this version of Velma is portrayed as an extremely narcissistic asshole and Mindy says she really relates to her, that says everything we need to know.
The show is made for unlikeable bitter resentful SJW’s like there main character. They actually think she is a role model. They always make their heros into villains and don’t realize it
You can see the pain on his face and hear it in his voice. This show killed a little bit of Charlie's spirit. I hope he was able to watch a little Captain Pronin to feel better.
I bet if Scooby was in the show there would be cringe jokes about him humping Velma's leg, or licking his own balls. That's the top tier level comedy we're dealing with here.
He'd be a little yappy thing and when *Norville* is pressed about having such a wimpy dog, he'd say something like, "What, you think I'd own a great dane or something because I'm black? Tch, racist much?"
that or since strictly speaking it wouldn't break Harkness' Rule Scoob n Velma would have a secret relationship behind Daphne's back ... that's a thing I've typed now
"Stinkier than three garbage trucks having sex in a sulphur factory." Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this. I don't think there's a better description of VELMA on the internet.😂
I love how we have modern shows that try to make "strong, tough, witty, intelligent, and confident characters" by making them outright bullies. And the best part is I'm betting whoever's creating these consider themselves as champions for anti-bullying, anti-oppression, anti-bad, yet look at this.
they're not even doing it right. literally everyone's agreeing this characterization is for like 2 different crowds at once and it's not working out for either of them
Almost like all the talk of the progressive style people, when put into practice, turn out to he just as bad as what they claim to be fighting against.
They decided she must be a lesbian; ergo they need to have a series about her. And in this series, she represents the woke creators point of view and constantly trashes everyone who isn't woke. Fred, the all-American boy, has a small penis. Shaggy is a contemptible incel who Velma can freely abuse. And Daphne is obviously her love interest because that's what the woke creators think.
@@Heike-- the thing is Velma can be made into a lesbian character (and it can actually be done quite well with the characters personality and character traits) that isn’t the issue to me, the issue is they threw away all of her key characteristics and were way to focused on pushing a dumb agenda and making it woke that they completely threw out everything that made Scooby doo, well scooby doo. They made Fred (who was the likable leader that was the heart of the gang even if he was a bit dense at times) into a daddy’s money rich kid and completely demeaned him for it. They completely missed the point of shaggys character, and they tried to make daphne and Velma the stars of the show but completely and utterly failed to understand their characters, and tried to make it as woke as possible and completely destroyed the scooby doo franchise in the process.
@@leviuzumaki3903 I don't really care that they made Velma/Daphne lesbians. Did those characters have canon relationships with male members of the group in the past? Sure, but I can get behind the sexuality thing, that doesn't really matter too much in the long run. Completely rewriting the character personalities at a base level, while missing everything that made each of the characters tolerable(let alone likable...), is where they show that they don't actually care about the source property.
The reason Velma is such an unlikeable character is because she's literally just a fictionalized version of her voice actress, who is, by all conceivable metrics, kind of a terrible person.
@@patricksalone5871 The titular character is based on her, and voiced by her. She's the second-in-command executive producer for the show. One of the production companies that made the show is hers. The only thing that is at all relatable to the original Scooby IP is the character names they've hijacked for this egregious waste of animation talent.
Mindy admitted to sexual assault in an interview about the show and had threatened her producers if they told anyone about it and laughed along with the crowd… the double standard is insane and the fact they can laugh at the fact she literally admitted to sexual assault is insane. She’s a terrible, narcissistic, selfish, and self absorbed human being who doesn’t deserve any type of respect or grace. She should’ve been “cancelled” a long time ago.
I actually enjoy this show and She-Hulk in particular because it is a wide open window on how upper class (I use that term loosely) over the hill feminist women view the world. Only they would think these shows are good but what they do is display their hatred of men, whites and any society that refuses to accept how wonderful, insightful and great they are. Any man who has broken up with that toxic girlfriend we have all had at one time or another knows what the very first thing she will say to anyone she can get to listen. "He's got a small dick." How many small dick "jokes" are in this show? This show is written by those very toxic girlfriends all grown up and no longer girlfriend material. This show is Mindy desperately trying to stay relevant by lashing out at everyone who doesn't think she is stunning and brave.
Mindy has always been off, self hating to seek validation and always pushed the “I only date white men” onto her shows also personal life. She’s so cringe, a clown, an entire circus 🤡🎪
You know that feeling where you ponder over deliberately writing something awful for the sole purpose of pissing people off, but are stopped by your common sense? Where your conscience rightfully interrupts with "Yeah, but this is actual garbage and everyone will hate you for creating such a thing"? This show is the result of (fanfic) writers with no such feelings, who proceed to deliver the most vile shit you've ever seen straight into your eyes.
God forbid you have a non douchy smart white guy in media anymore. The butchering of Fred's character and the way they made fun of him made me more mad than anything else in this show.
...it's almost like certain writers on the show are extremely bitter towards white dudes. People forget that inclusivity means including EVERYONE equally. Not turning the tables to get revenge.
As an amateur animator myself, I feel so bad for the animators who worked on this because I just know they spent hours trying to perfect the animation only for everyone to sh¡t on this show because of the screen writers poor writing.
Honestly, the animation is not bad because it similar to Venture Bros. But the problem is they race-swapped 3 of the main characters of Scooby Doo and makes them unlikable. The only character who still same is Fred but he becomes an insecure spoiled rich kid who can't cut a steak. Probably Shaggy or Norville in this show isn't a bad person from what I heard but is it really neccesary to make him fall in love with Velma who is toxic as hell in this show. And Daphne is a drug dealer who has 2 lesbian moms? What the fuck?
I love the art style, the way Velma is drawn is very nice to look at But the writing…the writing makes we wish humanity WAS destroyed by nuclear warfare during the Cold War
I feel this same way about game devs, the people that are actually coding the game and making all the graphics. They just want to give it their all, but it's the suits in the corporate office that rush them into releasing an unfinished, broken game. The suits put profit over entertainment, I generally like capitalism, but it needs to stay out of the entertainment industries. If you make an entertaining show, game, or movie the money will roll in naturally.
Velma is the creators' self-insert of this show. It's so embarrassing to see how different Velma and the others are from the Scooby Gang that we all know.
Cartoons have always had self insert characters, it juat shows that modern creators are terrible people. That's why it's soo good that Velma is getting universally shat on - the writers/creators that self-insert need to be shown that their personally is total fucking trash.
Self insert cartoons seem to be the next big thing. “Are you an overweight asshat no one likes and judges everyone but expect to be respected, make a comic”
@@LockeRobsta They probably won't take much more away than woke money. Can you imagine as easily as I can that they'll never take the time to entertain any amount of criticism? Even after getting cancelled, it'll be another person's fault.
I love that all of my friends said that I was narrow-minded because I said this show was going to flop. They told me it would be good, but they couldn't have been more wrong.
95% of hack directors: "I've had this amazing, ORIGINAL idea!" Studios: "What do you need?" 95% of hack directors: "A beloved childhood IP." Fandom: "Fuck all the way off and when you're there, keep fucking off some more."
Robot chicken once made a sketch where the Scooby gang is all murdered by an ax murderer with the exception of Velma who bangs said murderer. That 5 minute skit had more accurate characters and at the very least didn't forget Scooby Doo
They should have called this show "Mindy's Mysteries", which was originally what they had in mind until they thought "No no, make it about Velma. Let's ruin the Scooby-Doo franchise!"
Lke actually. Mindy Kaling is just not funny. Besides the office every project she has been a part of has just been insufferable. I could not stand her character on the Office either. I didn't mind oscar, I liked stanley and didn't like andy or angela. While they all had an occasional moment or line that was good I could not wait for them to get off screen. Mindy Kaling Peaked in the office. Apparently she did lots of writing there but now her writing has regressed to old tired jokes. Maybe it's bad delivery or she is out of ideas or her original ideas are worn out. I think it's the latter.
I have a firm belief HBO Max intentionally hired the worst possible team to create an adult animated show so they can send it out to die and use it as justification for them cutting animation from the service in general.
I was talking about this the other day with my sister (I’m someone who wants to work in animation) and she said this exact thing. It’s very likely being used as a scapegoat to terminate animation and say no one likes it, when it’s not true. We love animation, we just don’t want to see whatever Velma is supposed to be
Honestly that makes a whole lot of sense actually, I was trying to wrap my head around how they can cancel basically everything they were making but somehow this dodged the chopping block but yeah if they're trying to justify purging all animation this is a great way to do it.
I wouldn't be surprised that this could be the reason. The jabs at adults who watch cartoons, the constant punching down on people who watched it cuz they liked the original IP, I'm only hoping that this backfires spectacularly in HBO Max's face when people aren't saying "We hate animation" and instead saying "We loved our old shows, bring them back"
@@genericcommentarychannel5343 the bots that gave it a 7% instead of 0% liked it. Actually no, that’s not fair to the bots. They weren’t created with free will.

You know a show is REALLY bad when both sides of the aisle hate it. From what I understand, a lot of the folks on the left are claiming the show is a conservative take on diversity. How they arrived at that conclusion, I have no idea. It's like claiming a fart came from a person with no butt-hole.
To be fair to these adult children parading around as "creatives", they've been told for the last two decades or so that anybody who disagrees with them or doesn't like what they are doing is obviously just an 'ist' or a 'phobe'. Nothing they do is ever shit, it's the ever oppressive society holding them down, man! It would be funny if they were just failing with their own creations and ruining one or two networks.. But instead they are pissing over the entirety of pop culture that came before them... because can't you see how ohhh so enlightened and righteous they are?!?
@@stephenthomas1492 That is interesting that "both side of the aisle" are not liking it. My guess is the show probably lean or pander so heavy on one side that it appears to be mocking to the people they are trying to cater.
The fact she has the audacity to claim Fred as rude for saying he has a condition to not notice people who are hot when she, herself, judges everyone by looks and smarts. 🤦🏻♀️
Yeah same, my faith in humanity was nonexistent after the “giant” incident but knowing humanity is sane enough to know how terribly horrendous this show is actually restores a little bit of my faith in humanity
I watched it not knowing anything. My gf sat down to watch it with me. The second episode ended, and she turned to me and said “wow….this…this is really bad.” And I started dying laughing. I was just so in shock about how bad it was.
The executives decided on that one, and the staff were already not wanting him in for the "tone of the show." Anyone up high could've seen including Scooby in this would've been a blow to the icon, but apparently screwing up everyone else is totally a-okay to be greenlit.
This show is a spit in the face to not only every animation fan in the world, but to the people who helped make Scooby-Doo the fun mystery cartoon that it is.
Like that movie Return To Sleepaway Camp with the fat kid who kept yelling "your ass stinks." He was constantly bullied, but when he wasn't, he'd bully someone himself and act horrible to everyone else. Basically take that character, make him "self-aware" and "meta," and make it Scooby Doo-related for whatever reason.
Sounds like this show is a fanfic from someone who was an asshole in school and got picked on for it, so they "identified" with Velma and thought she was just like them, completely missing that Velma is a perfectly nice person and not just a geek trope.
I think the original show was already pretty "Inclusive" or whatever the word they use nowadays. It had two woman, two men, two popular kids and two less popular kids and a talking dog. And they all came together even with them all being different people. It was great.
And Mystery Inc had this pretty badass black DJ lady that was also a former member of the previous Mystery Inc generation. I mean, that version of the show was a matter of taste, but at least it was much more watchable than this. 😂
I mean that’s not really what diversity is but it doesn’t matter Lmfao, the show was fine as it is. Mindy kaling doesn’t care about diversity she just thought it would make “the kids” like her show. Changing the race of characters in an ANIMATED show is just weird. This isn’t what diversity is
@@fart63 At the time, it is quite the diversity it needed to represent. If they wanted to revamp the show with more diversity, they'd just add honorary members because messing with the main cast is disrespectful to the origins.
Also, the Mystery Inc. Are full of 4 teenagers with one talking dog with different backgrounds. Fred is coming from rich family but he's very down to Earth and likes to help everyone and also act as the leader and he's also likes to prepare the traps. Daphne is a pretty girl from rich family and she used to be the damsel in distress only later they tone it down and makes her more vulnarable Velma is a nerd and she's the brain of the group and she also likes to lose her glasses clumsily Shaggy is a stoner and a coward but he has to face his fear to solve the face Scooby-Doo is Shaggy's dog who's also similar to him and they both also love snacks. And just like any dogs, he's loyal to his Master and anyone who cares of him.
It gives warmth to my cold black heart to know Scooby-Doo is remembered so fondly this show ended up being universally hated. Edit: (Holy crap this comment blew up and I was not expecting that. Thanks everyone!)
As a show that came out in the 70's, basically everybody alive now watched it growing up as kids. Anything going off that path that has been put in concrete was doomed from the start, they should've just continued Mystery Incorporated, or made a new IP but clearly it didn't sell to the network the first time or two so they decided to just make it Scooby-Doo but with no Scooby-Doo
The way Fred and Daphne were portrayed in this show literally made me so mad,I never got mad at any adaptations, yeah many are bad but this one killed me
They base it on what they "think" the internet would like. I always hate how Stan twitter people would put Velma on pedestal and disrespect my girl Daphne who did nothing but be pretty and unproblematic. Like why is the world these days trying to convince me to dislike Daphne and it ain't working. Poor Fred also doesn't deserve to be drag so what if he looks like he has privilege he's still has always been a likable chatacter who has his own personality more than having a small p. like why do them like that they have always been admirable they look like the popular kids in school hanging out with the nerd and weird kid and his dorky dog on ghost adventures and that pretty damn cool

@llyis if you enjoyed the martian I highly recommend another book by the same author titled "Project: Hail Mary". It's pretty much more of the same with a new situation that they put the protagonist in.
Velma has literally a kids show level writing and characters but has blood, swearing, drugs and nudity to make it look like an adult animated show. By Kids show, i mean like Sesame Street or Play School, not good shows like Gravity Falls or SpongeBob
This show literally feels like petty revenge against people who didn't like you in high school. Not the people who bullied you in high school, just the people who didn't like you enough to want to be your friend. If the show is any indication, you don't need Mystery Inc to figure out why no one liked the creator in high school
OMG bro you're almost there, if you had one more braincell then you'd be able to understand that Velma's character is purposefully written that way. She harshly judges people only to be proven wrong soon after. It's almost like they wrote her to be a bad person so that she could gradually become a better one over the season. She's complex, like an actual person. I'm sorry she's not as easy of a character to understand as Goku.
@@shadowsta9 fair, but even so it’s such a lazy writing technique that only provides a sort of linear development. However, it could be done well, but Velma is literally an ass to almost everyone for no reason in particular except maybe Norville if you will. And despite many other problems with the character and show itself, the real icing on the cake is that this is supposed to be a parody of Scooby Doo. With barely any mystery and plenty of one-note characters and unfunny jokes, it’s just a better looking big mouth with a confusion of who’s target audience it’s for other than the people who made it. Velma is not nearly as complex as you say it is, and even goku has far better writing than her.
In that case it’s not Velma, or any other scooby doo characters and it should be an entirely independent animation with no attachment since all the scooby-doo characters are fully fleshed out and well done in ways drastically different from how this show redid them. Also they’ve gone about this whole this atrociously
@@iceefear1720 REALISTIC CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS LAZY WRITING? Omg you are actually braindead. Velma is a "weird" loner that judges people harshly so that she can have an excuse later. Ex. (I didn't like them anyways so who cares if they don't like me) She is scared to be vulnerable because being vulnerable opens the possibility of being rejected. That's why she's an ass to everyone. She's not a good person towards Norville. She uses him like a tool and doesn't think about his feelings. Norville is a super simp that either can't or won't accept that the feelings he has for Velma aren't reciprocated. You can't *make* people like you. These are relatable issues but most people can't even pick up on them because they have the same issues themselves. The show is a mirror. It's attempting to show you your flaws. But most people aren't smart enough to understand so they think it's just making fun of them. Big Mouth is the exact same. If you got a small dick and are mean to your friends like Nick. You'll either: 1. Identify the issue within yourself, laugh, then work to fix the problem. or 2. Think the show is making fun of you. It's an intelligence problem. People do not like to self reflect and look inside themselves, it hurts. Introspection is society's Kryptonite. Sometimes it hurts a lot but how else would you grow as person? The show isn't a parody of Scooby Doo. It's more of a spin and a prequel. The mysteries are Velma's missing mom and who's the Killer. The show will end when the characters go through their character arcs of being flawed people and at the end they'll likely resemble "The Gang" from the OG show in personality, but then it'll be over. I guarantee you in the last episodes they find Scooby but not during.
@@shadowsta9 you know what, that made me think a little more about the show, and maybe it’s got more to it than i give it credit for. still not my kind of show, and definitely not a fun watch in my opinion, but your explanation helped me understand why the show does what it does and the message behind it all. thanks for the insight.
I can’t believe they took the OG nice popular kids (and the most realistic portrayal of how popular kids act) and made them horrible. We need Justice for Fred and Daphne.
Our institutions, especially Hollywood, are basically chock-full of losers who can't get over their childhood days and so are trying to make our lives as miserable as theirs are.
And Scooby I've really started to vent about this mistake being created, whoever greenlit this crap is going to live to regret it and not only regrets, the shear messages from the original Scooby-Doo fanbase is going to be a furnace of texts slowly roasting.
It's been a long time since high school but I distinctly remember the popular kids being popular because they were charming people. Anyone who acted like a snob or a sociopath got mocked
I wonder if someone told Mindy Kalhing "hey, you kind of sound like Velma!" - and after a few laughs, two hours, and ten beers, they had an entire season of a show written, recorded, and storyboarded. I refuse to believe any more thought went into it than that.

The best thing to come out of this mess is independent writers and animators realizing the "giants of the industry" have nothing left to give, they literally have to go to through the IP trash bin and have some influencer come up with a storyboard to stay afloat, but they're only sinking harderd. i thought he was exaggerating about the jokes being all the same. But literally the first joke is her about to tell you her story and interrupting herself saying "i know youre probably confused because detective stories are usually about tall, handsome guys who get handed even more power" like wtf
The fact that they made an "entirely new" character named Norville banking on people not knowing that Shaggy's real full name is Norville Rogers is wild.
It’s not a new character. Norville “Shaggy” Rogers is his real name. Shaggy is a nick name that people are probably gonna start calling him later in the series
The biggest problem I have with this is that it's funny that his name is norville rogers, but the crux of the joke is that they don't talk about it. Calling the character Norville makes it suck
Yup, he was a positive (sometimes dumb) leader that showed courage and held the team together. I doubt these writers ever watched Scooby Doo, like at all!
That's quite a selective comparison. I'd agree on being rich and privileged but Fred is more than that. He is kind to others and has a fascinating hobby (making traps) . Mindy on the other hand... EDIT: Apologies for my mistake. He's referring to this show's Fred and not the canon Fred Jones. WTF did they do to my boi, Fred!?
The joke that weirdly got more under my skin than the rest is when not-Shaggy looked dead into the camera and said something like, "I hate drugs" with a smirk on his face.
Yeah they took away his drugs, but that seems like a characters arc where he'll discover weed lol. Make him black, whatever, who gives a shit. Don't take away his drugs though.
the #1 thing to remember when rebooting is to stick to the canon. When you reboot a show your main audience is the people who grew up and watched the original show and their kids, thats how you get a renewed interest in an IP is to show the younger generation something that you loved to watch as a kid in hopes they like it too.

The best way I've heard it described is Mindy Kalling pitched a show that was about her friends growing up, got told no, came back a week later with the same pitch but added "but with scooby-doo" and the exec's lost their mind and said yes, this is why that company is sinking like a rock
This was pitched four years ago and all the woke idiots previously at Warner Bros/HBO, like Ann Sarnoff and Walter Hamada, have already been fired. Zazlov is the new guy in charge and has been steering away from the wokeness as much as possible, but this show made since 2018-2019, had to be released for financial reasons since it was already made. "It's not a fun character arc to follow this person become less insufferable as she learns to not be a judgmental piece of shit." The funny thing is, this could be said about so many characters in modern shows. Like Galadriel in Rings of Power, and Kit in Willow. Characters the writers think were great strong women, but were found absolutely evil, selfish, unlikable and detestable by the audience, which the writers then reacted to by claiming "she's on a character arc!" I think the problem about all these characters is that they're self-inserts by the writers. And when the writers are entitled, insufferable narcissists in real life, that will bleed into the characters they created for their personal wish fulfillment.
Velma was incredibly intelligent and brilliant as a character and person in older renditions, Fred was very clever and deductive in investigating. Oh how far they have fallen, I agree with Charlie, Scooby-Doo not being here is good because we don’t want to have his name besmirched
Don't you feel that for nerdy, awkward girls who maybe saw a bit of themselves in Velma, that’s something that’s been _taken_ from them? Yeah, we can laugh at Velma fumbling for her glasses, but that’s only because there’s something about _every one of us_ we can laugh at. Now, Indian-American girls have gained “representation” in an unlikeable character, but nerdy, awkward girls have _lost_ representation in a likeable character.
It's possible to know every definition in the dictionary and still be incredibly ignorant, Velma here imo is just using her vocabulary to amaze the sheep on her quest to gain hugs and kisses , those types can't function in a society without ,,typical gr00mers tricks .
@@DeflatingAtheism hollywood feels the need to make the neerdy girl characters into toxic cunts to show their "strong side" even though it just goes to show why nobody likes them. i feel like velma was literally made for anti social twitter users tieing every joke to race gender and sexuality for no reason.
It really feels like this show is using the IP characters only because it was once something original and a parody, but someone in the department saw similarities to Scoody-doo and got the rights to brand it as such. I don't know anything about the developers behind Velma, but it just feels like that's how it went every time I see clips and it's writting.
This reminds me of a comic from the Aliens franchise. a man was taken by the Xenomorph to a hive to be impregnated. out of fear, knowing these could be his last moments, he closed his eyes, covered his ears, and went so deep into his own head, imagining a fantasy to escape to, that he completely shut himself off from the real world. he put it all in reverse. the real world is the dream, and his fantasy is reality. the Xenos did horrible things to him, but he was so deep into his own fantasy that he barely reacted. he was much happier inside his head and ignoring all that happened around him. That's how I'm seeing the creators of Velma. they cannot accept their show is a disaster, so they are creating a fantasy world for themselves to live in to escape reality and all the bad things happening around them.
That doesnt work very well bc Big Mouth is actually a decent enough show. You need to pick a better but still pretty shitty show for that joke to work.
I actually burst out laughing when I checked IMDB only to see that she show currently holds a 1.8/10. I was expecting maybe like a 5.2 or something (which is still considered extremely poor reception), but I seriously wasn't ready for it to be *that* bad lmao
I wasn't expecting Google's ratings to be so low. Like the people who rate shows and movies on Google usually like a lot of shit and are more generous, but not with this one lmfao
Fun fact: norville is actually shaggy's name, that's not a thing with this show that's just shaggy's name. It's rarely used, kind of just one of those trivia things
The irony of this show trying to use the progressive mask is that Scooby Doo was already a very progressive one ahead of its time, by having four kids from completely distinct backgrounds (jock, rich, nerd and stoner) that would NEVER interact with each other in the real world be friends and solve mysteries together. Everyone loves each of them and their dynamic, even at their lowest points.
Not really. Fred's family owns a newspaper and are at least upper middle class, Daphne's family are loaded, Velma's family own bookstores and are probably similarly wealthy to Fred's. The outlier is Shaggy, his immediate family is probably equal in wealth to Daphne's, but his extended family are close to billionaires and he inherited a plantation in the south which is doing well enough he doesn't need to work ever.
HEAR ME OUT: They purposely made the show horrible so they could be like “See animation is so bad, this is why we cancelled all our animated shows!” Just so they could justify their actions :(
I'm fully convinced that Mindy Kaling is using this show as an outlet for all her feeling she had in high school. She trying to get back at everyone who thought she was unattractive and unpopular in High School.
Ikr? She has a lot of "mean girl" energy and it baffles me as to how the hell she managed to get the role of not only director of a show, but also of a scooby doo show. Let that sink in, SCOOBY DOO - a very popular cartoon series. They couldn't have picked a worse director than mindy and she clearly has no interest in scooby doo and I doubt she'll get any further director roles (or any role) after this show either concludes or gets cancelled, cuz after seeing her past behavior, she clearly isn't capable of having what it takes to being a good director (that and also not a good person while at that).
@@dragonlord0784 Bold of you to assume she won't continue to fail upwards because she ticks the right demographic boxes, noxious personality and incompetence aside.
I am a firm believer that (from a storytelling standpoint) your main character doesn’t have to be likable. Sometimes it even adds to the charm of the media. HOWEVER, your main character DOES need to 1) be interesting & complex and 2) have some aspect that the audience can empathize with and relate to. It doesn’t even have to be a redeeming trait, but could come in the form of backstory, relationships, fears, etc. SOMETHING that gives the audience a reason to care about them. If the character is just an asshole with nothing to compensate that, no one will become invested in their journey or the media itself.
The episode opens with the Mystery Inc. gang, Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy, all in their high school uniforms, walking into the halls of their high school. They are discussing their latest mystery and how they can't wait to solve it. Suddenly, they hear strange noises coming from the school auditorium. Fred: "That sounds like it could be a clue to our mystery. Let's check it out." The gang heads to the auditorium and finds it locked. They try to open it, but it won't budge. Daphne: "This is strange. Why would the auditorium be locked during school hours?" Velma: "Maybe there's something inside that they don't want us to see." Shaggy: "Like a ghost!" Fred: "Don't be silly, Shaggy. There's no such thing as ghosts." But just then, the door suddenly opens by itself, and the gang is faced with a terrifying ghostly figure on stage. Fred: "Whoa! Maybe there are such things as ghosts after all!" The ghost starts to chase the gang, but they manage to escape and regroup in the library. Daphne: "That was so scary! What do you think it was?" Velma: "I'm not sure, but I think we need to investigate further to find out." Shaggy: "Like, I don't know about you guys, but I'm not going back in there." Fred: "Don't worry, Shaggy. We'll figure this out together." The gang starts to gather clues and interview suspects, including the school janitor and the drama teacher. They eventually discover that the ghost was actually the school principal in disguise, trying to scare the students away so that he could sell the school to a developer. Fred: "I can't believe it. The principal was behind it all this time." Daphne: "But why would he do such a thing?" Velma: "He wanted to sell the school to a developer for a lot of money." Shaggy: "Like, that's terrible! We have to stop him!" The gang comes up with a plan to catch the principal in the act, and with the help of the school's faculty and students, they are able to expose his scheme and save the school. Fred: "Another mystery solved by Mystery Inc." Daphne: "And we did it all without Scooby-Doo." Velma: "But I'm sure he would be proud of us." Shaggy: "Like, I'm just glad it's over. I never want to see a ghost again." The episode ends with the gang walking off into the sunset, ready for their next adventure. an actual Chatgpt episode of Scooby doo without Scooby doo

I love how we have modern shows that try to make "strong, tough, witty, intelligent, and confident characters" by making them outright bullies. And the best part is I'm betting whoever's creating these consider themselves as champions for anti-bullying, anti-oppression, anti-bad, yet look at this.
Yep as long as its directed at the correct crowd it's somehow ok. What a bunch of clowns
they're not even doing it right. literally everyone's agreeing this characterization is for like 2 different crowds at once and it's not working out for either of them
I don't know if I should be shocked or not that all of the shows that are, for lack of a better word "woke", are just straight up mean
Almost like all the talk of the progressive style people, when put into practice, turn out to he just as bad as what they claim to be fighting against.
It’s always the ones who are still mad they weren’t popular in high school, 15 years ago, who make this cringe cartoons/comics.
So basically they turned the shy awkward kind likable Velma and turned her into a complete toxic unlikeable character that everyone absolutely hates.
Yeah hit the nail right on the head for that one
Basically
The reason Velma is such an unlikeable character is because she's literally just a fictionalized version of her voice actress, who is, by all conceivable metrics, kind of a terrible person.

Mindy admitted to sexual assault in an interview about the show and had threatened her producers if they told anyone about it and laughed along with the crowd… the double standard is insane and the fact they can laugh at the fact she literally admitted to sexual assault is insane.
I love the art style, the way Velma is drawn is very nice to look at
But the writing…the writing makes we wish humanity WAS destroyed by nuclear warfare during the Cold War

Daphne is a pretty girl from rich family and she used to be the damsel in distress only later they tone it down and makes her more vulnarable
Velma is a nerd and she's the brain of the group and she also likes to lose her glasses clumsily
Shaggy is a stoner and a coward but he has to face his fear to solve the face
Scooby-Doo is Shaggy's dog who's also similar to him and they both also love snacks. And just like any dogs, he's loyal to his Master and anyone who cares of him.
Or even better than changing the race of already existing characters, how about just make your own characters.

You'll either:
1. Identify the issue within yourself, laugh, then work to fix the problem.
or

The funny thing is, this could be said about so many characters in modern shows. Like Galadriel in Rings of Power, and Kit in Willow. Characters the writers think were great strong women, but were found absolutely evil, selfish, unlikable and detestable by the audience, which the writers then reacted to by claiming "she's on a character arc!"
I think the problem about all these characters is that they're self-inserts by the writers. And when the writers are entitled, insufferable narcissists in real life, that will bleed into the characters they created for their personal wish fulfillment.

If the character is just an asshole with nothing to compensate that, no one will become invested in their journey or the media itself.
this indeed, very well explained

The episode opens with the Mystery Inc. gang, Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy, all in their high school uniforms, walking into the halls of their high school. They are discussing their latest mystery and how they can't wait to solve it. Suddenly, they hear strange noises coming from the school auditorium.
Fred: "That sounds like it could be a clue to our mystery. Let's check it out."
The gang heads to the auditorium and finds it locked. They try to open it, but it won't budge.
Daphne: "This is strange. Why would the auditorium be locked during school hours?"
Velma: "Maybe there's something inside that they don't want us to see."
Shaggy: "Like a ghost!"
Fred: "Don't be silly, Shaggy. There's no such thing as ghosts."
But just then, the door suddenly opens by itself, and the gang is faced with a terrifying ghostly figure on stage.
Fred: "Whoa! Maybe there are such things as ghosts after all!"
The ghost starts to chase the gang, but they manage to escape and regroup in the library.
Daphne: "That was so scary! What do you think it was?"
Velma: "I'm not sure, but I think we need to investigate further to find out."
Shaggy: "Like, I don't know about you guys, but I'm not going back in there."
Fred: "Don't worry, Shaggy. We'll figure this out together."
The gang starts to gather clues and interview suspects, including the school janitor and the drama teacher. They eventually discover that the ghost was actually the school principal in disguise, trying to scare the students away so that he could sell the school to a developer.
Fred: "I can't believe it. The principal was behind it all this time."
Daphne: "But why would he do such a thing?"
Velma: "He wanted to sell the school to a developer for a lot of money."
Shaggy: "Like, that's terrible! We have to stop him!"
The gang comes up with a plan to catch the principal in the act, and with the help of the school's faculty and students, they are able to expose his scheme and save the school.
Fred: "Another mystery solved by Mystery Inc."
Daphne: "And we did it all without Scooby-Doo."
Velma: "But I'm sure he would be proud of us."
Shaggy: "Like, I'm just glad it's over. I never want to see a ghost again."
The episode ends with the gang walking off into the sunset, ready for their next adventure.
an actual Chatgpt episode of Scooby doo without Scooby doo
It goes without saying this is 100% better then Velma’s writing and is more faithful to the source material and keeping the wholesome parts of the series

This comment is so underrated!
But where’s scooby
Who ever read that cri nge
"I'm not a hero. I'm just doing what any man in my position would do to protect the people he cares about. You".
My heart skipped a beat. I was going to hate watch but I'll stop myself in respect for your self sacrifice Charlie
Life's too short for me to hate watch anything but otherwise agreed.
"Hate Watch"! Love it. 😊
Velma in the original wasn’t exactly some sweet little girl, but she was nice in a nerdy awkward way.
My memory may be foggy but she seemed like the kind of nerd that’s cynically logical. You’d tell her you’ve just broken up with your boyfriend and it’s the worst day of your life. she’ll be like “well technically no. Thousands of children are starving to death on the other side of the planet so can’t be that bad for you”...she’ right but your like😑“Thx Velma..“
@@cassandrajenkins9095she can be nice here and there, especially with shaggy ❤
Yeah at least in scooby doo the characters were ACTUALLY likeable
Original Velma lacks cruelty.
HBO Velma goes on /r AITA, gives a story about how she tortured some poor dog, and then is surprised when everyone tells her that she's a bad person.
OG Velma just kinda did her own thing, minded her own business unless it was solving a mystery with her pals. Mystery Inc. Velma was a bad gf, but otherwise passable. HBO Velma...Somebody needs to find out where the real gang is locked up 💀
