    Mindy Kaling may have lived a privileged upbringing, and attended all the best schools, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say she wasn't exactly the prom queen.
    That kinda explains a lot of what we're seeing. There's a lot of 'emotional damage' being vented here.

    In Danish we have this expression that, sort of, translates to "privilege blindness".
    It's when you're so used to your privilege that you've completely lost sight of it.
    And, more importantly, any loss of privilege is seen as oppression.
    Mindy is a prime example of this.

      @@500dollarjapanesetoaster8 _Drawn Together_ especially that first season, was awesome. It kinda ran out of steam fairly quickly though but it's a spoof on old cartoon stereotypes in a 2000s MTV style reality TV show setting. I thoroughly recommend it.

      The weirdest part about all this to me is that in the show she is not even a good detective. She literally throws out clues without looking at them, she tries to get people she knows are innocent prosecuted, and then commits numerous crimes herself without an ounce of social awareness. She's not just wrong about all her conclusions, she's denial-of-reality wrong.
      I can maybe get an edgy Velma or a snarky Velma, but a stupid, bigoted, and clueless Velma? That's pretty much an INVERSION of her character.

    The Velma character is the modern day Daria without any of her endearing qualities or dry humour. The show is about as enjoyable as a headbutt to the ghoulies from Rian Johnson.

    I was thinking of this the other day and how it's such a shame female protagonists have been getting brutalized in recent years by these awful shows; Santa Inc, She-Hulk, and now Velma. For shows that claim to be feminist, they sure love topping themselves to see who can make the most unbearable cast of characters.

    I miss Scooby Doo because it was only about solving mysteries by a group of highschoolers who in real life they wouldn't work together. I loved it because the jock wasn't a douc#ebag, the pretty girl wasn't a mean, actively hostyle b¡tch, the nerdy girl wasn't laughed at and was valued by what she had to contribute with. And because it was aimed at kids, the sexuality of the characters was so secondary you could spend your whole childhood watching it without knowing/caring about it.
    Plus Shaggy and Scooby, they were adorable. I miss old fashioned children tv shows.

      To think that it literally all started with Mindy liking a jk Rowling tweet.
      They apparently dug up a blog post written by her in 2007 about the Writer's Strike where she coincidentally called herself "Conservative".
      Even if she was (and it wasn't a joke about how she didn't want to strike like a lot of writers did at the time) you can't spend 16 YEARS in Hollywood and not conform to their ways or have been cancelled by now.

    I've said this on everything I could put it on. It makes me crazy. Velma says Fred and white men can get away with murder and are privileged. Velma hits Daphne with a tire iron, sells drugs, breaks into Fred's home and a dead body is found in her locker, she's walking around free. Fred gets shot twice and go's to prison for a crime he did not commit. How did no one notice that?

      Scoobynatural worked because the Supernatural characters knew better than to make everything super edgy and violent and were okay with being cameo characters.
      "Velma" ironically matches almost verbatim the Robot Chicken sketch where they replace Daphne with...someone. The edginess, the overly-smart characters, the lesbian make-out session, its all there. But that was a one-off parody, this is unfortunally real.

      Thing is a great deal of artists and authors sit on the left. Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, all lefties. Even JK Rowling, who everyone in the extreme left seems to wrongly believe is some kind of fascist, wrote Harry Potter with a lot of lefty sentimentality. The left is where a majority of artistic and creative work we all love does come from. George Lucas, again, lots of lefty sentiments in his stories.     I'm reminded of the controversy around one of the creators on the Powerpuff Girls reboot writing himself into the show as Blossom's crush, and how creepy it was that the grown man was writing himself into a relationship with the literal child. Of course, he was a man, so he was an acceptable target to blame.

    The main inspiration for my channel was a livestream where Drinker and Az both talked about how burned out and dismal they were after watching so many awful shows, and how they needed to go back and watch some classics to purify their psyches. Figured I'd save myself the suffering and just celebrate the great things of yesteryear... while taking potshots at trash along the way.

    Hollywood seems to think that we're asking for an edgy and "adult" version of our childhood memories. In reality, I want my kids to have the same clean, wholesome memories I was allowed to have. Save the adult content for adult shows and I wont have a word to say about it

    Scooby Doo came out at a time when I was getting to the age where childhood fun was slipping over to the teenage side. I enjoyed it but it was not like some of the older ones I liked. Having said that, I detest another attempt to subvert anyone's fond childhood memories. Childhood is an age of innocence for most of us and it is very short. It shouldn't be perverted by adults with a sick sense of .... whatever it is.

      Does it seem like the people who grew up with the same nostalgia you did have misinterpreted the meaning in order to capitalize? Because as a woman who grew up through the 90's-00's, I see the current "Strong female fight EVERYONE rawr!" trend as an attempt to overcompensate for the "Just sit down and wait for your prince" trope from my childhood. A very misguided, tone-deaf attempt, devoid of nuance.

    I’m still partial to the theory that the original script wasn’t meant to be a Velma show. But they were told the only way they’d get funding to make their script into a show was if it was a “modern reimagined version of a classic cartoon” so they just randomly selected Mystery Inc and awkwardly forced the characters into the already pre written show that had nothing to do with them.

    What gets me is The Venture Brothers did the Scooby Doo satire that this is so desperately trying to be using less than 5 minutes of a B plot in a 22 minute episode. The joke was perfect. It landed perfectly. And it was all we needed.

    I never watched she Hulk, but I felt the hate from it. Velma, I watched someone's reaction vid, and it's like.. it feels like whoever wrote it hates everyone. It's just so horrible. Disgusting.
    You shouldn't watch something and go:"Wow, whoever made this hates people."
    Honestly, I do think it's just Mindy here. Or maybe everyone who made it just poured their hatred and vitriol into it. They need a therapist and some serious chill pills if they go around like this on a normal basis.

    There was so much they could do with good writing. Going from 4 teens that would never hang out together to a well developed and successful mystery solving team has so much potential for a good story. But the writers obviously have no life experience to call on to help them develop this story.

    I knew this would be a mess when they described the female characters with some tragic backstory then they described the male characters with jokes like, Fred has a small pp and shaggy was laughed at for having feelings for someone. All female characters are tragic heroes and male characters are just jokes and you're suppose to laugh at their struggle

    I'm all for using the term "Don Draper" as shorthand to describe a character who frustratingly keeps resetting to their default state over and over again. But it feels just a little too esoteric, and that's coming from someone who's seen Mad Men in its entirety. Don Draper's characteristics just aren't as commonly known as someone like Ned Flanders.
    I know the show had a lot of hype early on, but I'm not sure it ever really had the numbers to match. And those numbers only ever went down. Plus, it seems like there are so many more glaring examples of characters like that. Rick Grimes comes to mind. Or House, for the vast majority of the series.

    Mindy Kaling is bitter because she knows her best performance, no; the only meaningful work she has ever been in was The Office. She played a tertiary character, in an American adaptation, of a British TV comedy, more than two decades ago. She peaked in a throwaway role as a young adult and she now takes glee in burning the beloved memories of millions of people in effigy.

    Maybe it's the animation style, but Daphne from the show looks like the character Kim Possible from the 2002 cartoon. The Velma show feels like a demented crossover of Scooby Doo(minus Scoob) and Kim Possible.
