Scooby Doo came out at a time when I was getting to the age where childhood fun was slipping over to the teenage side. I enjoyed it but it was not like some of the older ones I liked. Having said that, I detest another attempt to subvert anyone's fond childhood memories. Childhood is an age of innocence for most of us and it is very short. It shouldn't be perverted by adults with a sick sense of .... whatever it is.
Does it seem like the people who grew up with the same nostalgia you did have misinterpreted the meaning in order to capitalize? Because as a woman who grew up through the 90's-00's, I see the current "Strong female fight EVERYONE rawr!" trend as an attempt to overcompensate for the "Just sit down and wait for your prince" trope from my childhood. A very misguided, tone-deaf attempt, devoid of nuance.
I’m still partial to the theory that the original script wasn’t meant to be a Velma show. But they were told the only way they’d get funding to make their script into a show was if it was a “modern reimagined version of a classic cartoon” so they just randomly selected Mystery Inc and awkwardly forced the characters into the already pre written show that had nothing to do with them.
"I don't wanna see that" "I mean, speak for yourself, just not these two." Indeed. Velma and Daphne from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? I could stand to see a bit more.

They need a therapist and some serious chill pills if they go around like this on a normal basis.
The show that makes fun of a spoiled, privileged, rich person who grew up getting and having everything he needed, without any challenges… just like Mindy herself.
That’s how leftists work: no rules, ethics, or morals apply when it comes to people they hate. They are so completely ensconced in their tribalism that they can’t comprehend notions like ‘everybody plays by the same rules.’ To them, it would be wrong to bodyshame Fred if he professed left wing views. But since he’s not part of the ‘good people’ tribe, he deserves whatever awful treatment they give him.
For something he has no control over, none the less… not like it’s the result of following Mindys diet of strictly McMuffins and therefore ending up a fat wreck… dudes just got a little Wang…. Oof.
I think our dream production team is lining up now. They've all proven themselevs: Producer: Lauren Hissrich Director: Ruin Johnson Writers: Mindy Kailing, Jessica Gao and some hungry Baboons with keyboards Starring: Tatiana Maslany, Warwick Davis and Ruby Cruz Make that movie NOW!
My understanding is the me too thing is from the fact that Mindy literally got me too-ed for sexual harassment cause she harassed a fellow actor, and then kissed them without consent.
There was so much they could do with good writing. Going from 4 teens that would never hang out together to a well developed and successful mystery solving team has so much potential for a good story. But the writers obviously have no life experience to call on to help them develop this story.
I knew this would be a mess when they described the female characters with some tragic backstory then they described the male characters with jokes like, Fred has a small pp and shaggy was laughed at for having feelings for someone. All female characters are tragic heroes and male characters are just jokes and you're suppose to laugh at their struggle
The only reason Mindy included that tidbit about pre-cancel culture comedians, is because she went on Conan and admitted to sexually harassing a male co-star. Mind you, they had applause and laughter during the "joke" she told, but that old clip is out there nonetheless and she knows it.
The true scooby do experience is discovering why this show was even created. Is it some sort of scheme, is it a money laundering plot, a political scheme. Then we discover that it’s actually just a bitter director behind it all
Or it's the plot of Mel Brooks' "The Producers": rip-off investors for money to dump into a project to create a truly reprehensible piece of "entertainment", so they can't be paid back. "Velma" is Mindy Kalig's "Springtime for Hitler".
I'm all for using the term "Don Draper" as shorthand to describe a character who frustratingly keeps resetting to their default state over and over again. But it feels just a little too esoteric, and that's coming from someone who's seen Mad Men in its entirety. Don Draper's characteristics just aren't as commonly known as someone like Ned Flanders. I know the show had a lot of hype early on, but I'm not sure it ever really had the numbers to match. And those numbers only ever went down. Plus, it seems like there are so many more glaring examples of characters like that. Rick Grimes comes to mind. Or House, for the vast majority of the series.
I genuinely don’t get how HBO released the pilot of the Last of Us and Velma in the same time frame. One has enormous potential and the other is one I hope will be cancelled soon. (Yes I know they renewed it for some reason.)
Drinker seemed to be surprised that had to go all the way back 3 months to find a show as obnoxiously mean-spirited. 3 months is nothing. In the 20th century, there weren’t really any mean-spirited shows. Oh, how things have changed.
I'm calling it now Scooby-Doo will appear in the final episode titled "The Brains of the Operation" as a Frankenstein-esque monster with a human brain from one of the murder victims implanted in a dogs body.
Mindy Kaling is bitter because she knows her best performance, no; the only meaningful work she has ever been in was The Office. She played a tertiary character, in an American adaptation, of a British TV comedy, more than two decades ago. She peaked in a throwaway role as a young adult and she now takes glee in burning the beloved memories of millions of people in effigy.
Mindy's writing makes me feel that she had some serious romantic issues with the main group she attacks in the show when she was in high-school/college.
Maybe it's the animation style, but Daphne from the show looks like the character Kim Possible from the 2002 cartoon. The Velma show feels like a demented crossover of Scooby Doo(minus Scoob) and Kim Possible.

The left is where a majority of artistic and creative work we all love does come from. George Lucas, again, lots of lefty sentiments in his stories. They're just not extreme left or this weird perverse 'Hollywood-Left' that nobody outside of that stupid bubble really likes.
Not likeable for normal people anyway, but for people who think like them, this character is amazing.
I'm reminded of the controversy around one of the creators on the Powerpuff Girls reboot writing himself into the show as Blossom's crush, and how creepy it was that the grown man was writing himself into a relationship with the literal child. Of course, he was a man, so he was an acceptable target to blame.
Ah yes Jake Goldman one of the writers. Did you know he wrote the painbow especially along with another writer who later made a cartoon herself before her Tumblr post about her outing herself as a pdfile was found and harassed her workers came out?
Yeah interesting trivia
I saw Little Platoon’s velma video a couple days ago and it was one of the best I saw on the topic. It’s awesome to know he’s a part of this crowds. You guys all rock 🤘
Hear, hear
Sounds like Scooby Doo is getting the Doctor Who teddy bear treatment.
(Cue Sam Neill Event Horizon scream)
Ooooooooooooooooahoooahhhoooaahhhhh
Another case of "your better off watching the reviews than the show"
Except most of those reviews are as politicized as the films they're reviewing.
People still watch shows these days? Ya'll haven't learned yet?
@@CleverGirlAAH Thank you for acting sane.
The main inspiration for my channel was a livestream where Drinker and Az both talked about how burned out and dismal they were after watching so many awful shows, and how they needed to go back and watch some classics to purify their psyches. Figured I'd save myself the suffering and just celebrate the great things of yesteryear... while taking potshots at trash along the way.
They should have Scrappy Doo on the show so we know they honestly despise us
They'd make him the good guy.
She's already Crappy Doo.
Scrappy doo is a better character than Melma
Wait til season 2
Imagine if the studio hired some talented comedy writers and actors and over dubbed the animation with an alternative script
That would be perfect
@@sillystuff6247 Yeah I was thinking of SAO Abridged where the story makes far more sense and gives the characters better motivation while being funny on top of it.
It's pretty short, I'd recommend it as a case study.
Good idea for RUclips series, post altered episodes of Velma and dub in new lines.

Evil is the perversion or mockery of the good. This is what we are seeing in our modern stories.
On the tweet Mindy Kaling liked from JK Rowling:
The ironic part is that it's a tweet that Mindy herself sounds like she'd say. It was Rowling responding to some random person. The random person said, "How do you sleep at night knowing you've lost a whole audience from buying your books?" and she says "I read my most recent royalty cheques and find the pain goes away pretty quickly."
Somebody got bitter that she couldn't make her own Daria show...
Daria was clever. Velma was not.
Holy crap drinker you assemble every reviewer I've been watching lately. Good work.
Hollywood seems to think that we're asking for an edgy and "adult" version of our childhood memories. In reality, I want my kids to have the same clean, wholesome memories I was allowed to have. Save the adult content for adult shows and I wont have a word to say about it
Nothing's for kids anymore.
This nonsensical show made me tune into Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. Show - it is amazing by comparison. Thank you Mindy ❤

Spiteful and hateful would be the words I used to describe Mindy Kaling in everything I've ever seen her in. That's just what she is.
Like who hurt her? I mean it literally…
@@fr0ck360A privileged life in the Northeastern nexus of American culture. A candyland of elitist arsehats who think they rule us. She wasn't hurt, that's just what she is, and they are too.
This show is a reflection of how Mindy wished her high school years were.
The feeling is mutual...
Its really sad that Mindy became like that. I think that her work at the Office was quite good and self aware. The sucess must have triggered her dark (no pun intended) side somehow.
Or she was always like this, but at The Office she wasn't in control.
The feeling is mutual, Velma. The feeling is mutual.
@DmOnNicgrmThecriticalDrinker44 No, go away now.
The way Drinker described how Velma needs to get files sounds like a convoluted fetch quest or something from like WoW.
8:37 "An endless stream of non-sequiturs, glued together with semen..." an apt description of EFAP, I'd have thought.
This show is more a morbid fascination than a source of entertainment
I’m still partial to the theory that the original script wasn’t meant to be a Velma show. But they were told the only way they’d get funding to make their script into a show was if it was a “modern reimagined version of a classic cartoon” so they just randomly selected Mystery Inc and awkwardly forced the characters into the already pre written show that had nothing to do with them.
I guess Daria was not available for licensing
"I don't wanna see that"
"I mean, speak for yourself, just not these two."
Indeed. Velma and Daphne from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? I could stand to see a bit more.
I'd like to see the extended cut of that scene.
With some doobie snacks of my own.
What gets me is The Venture Brothers did the Scooby Doo satire that this is so desperately trying to be using less than 5 minutes of a B plot in a 22 minute episode. The joke was perfect. It landed perfectly. And it was all we needed.
2:16 - 2:32 you are the second person to point that out.
Pippa also pointed that out because mindy directed a teen drama, and also outed herself for sexually harrasing an actor during a rehearsal, then threatening the man to keep it hush, or she ruins his career.
Disney: I have written the most spiteful and insecure heroine with She Hulk
Warner Brothers: …Hold my bier.
Good one, *cheers!*
I watched the Little Platoon's review on Velma and I knew things are REALLY F*CKING BAD when he immediately started the video with a raised voice... That's not how TLP rolls with his ASMR intellectual voice!
Just take a look at the creator ...
Yes, she looks EXACTLY like You pictured her !
At this point, HBO Max's animation department is listed as a charity for tax purposes.
I never watched she Hulk, but I felt the hate from it. Velma, I watched someone's reaction vid, and it's like.. it feels like whoever wrote it hates everyone. It's just so horrible. Disgusting.
You shouldn't watch something and go:"Wow, whoever made this hates people."
Honestly, I do think it's just Mindy here. Or maybe everyone who made it just poured their hatred and vitriol into it. They need a therapist and some serious chill pills if they go around like this on a normal basis.
The show that makes fun of a spoiled, privileged, rich person who grew up getting and having everything he needed, without any challenges… just like Mindy herself.
They were like can we make show worse than she hulk.🤣

It's OK to bodyshame a teenager if he's white and his parents are rich, that's what I take from this show.
That’s how leftists work: no rules, ethics, or morals apply when it comes to people they hate. They are so completely ensconced in their tribalism that they can’t comprehend notions like ‘everybody plays by the same rules.’
To them, it would be wrong to bodyshame Fred if he professed left wing views.
Oof.
There are a lot of women incels, we call them cat ladies.
Velma should have her own odorant brand. Balance out the deodorants.
I think our dream production team is lining up now. They've all proven themselevs:
Producer: Lauren Hissrich
Director: Ruin Johnson
Writers: Mindy Kailing, Jessica Gao and some hungry Baboons with keyboards
Starring: Tatiana Maslany, Warwick Davis and Ruby Cruz
Make that movie NOW!
The hungry baboons are the most talented people on your list 😂
This is a great RUclipsr line up for this stream lmao, love all these creators
The true scooby do experience is discovering why this show was even created. Is it some sort of scheme, is it a money laundering plot, a political scheme. Then we discover that it’s actually just a bitter director behind it all
Or it's the plot of Mel Brooks' "The Producers": rip-off investors for money to dump into a project to create a truly reprehensible piece of "entertainment", so they can't be paid back. "Velma" is Mindy Kalig's "Springtime for Hitler".
Lol rags was on. Thought he was excommunicated from this club
The horror...the horror...
thanks for enduring such a torture so i dont have to.
Mindy Kaling, taking your spiteful, angsty teenage diaries and turning them into a script ISN’T writing.
As WC Fields said: "Never work with children and animals." She knew Scooby would pull focus from
I'm all for using the term "Don Draper" as shorthand to describe a character who frustratingly keeps resetting to their default state over and over again.
As a Gen Xer, pretty much all the good stuff from my childhood has been shat on.
I genuinely don’t get how HBO released the pilot of the Last of Us and Velma in the same time frame.
One has enormous potential and the other is one I hope will be cancelled soon. (Yes I know they renewed it for some reason.)
This just makes me want to get the lego Scooby Doo minifigures even more
Drinker seemed to be surprised that had to go all the way back 3 months to find a show as obnoxiously mean-spirited. 3 months is nothing. In the 20th century, there weren’t really any mean-spirited shows. Oh, how things have changed.
The Little Platoon was on point. You almost think Velma has a plot, but then nope.
0:30 Come on Mauler. You should know that we feast on the suffering of others XD
Velma hates you, hates comedy, hates Scooby Doo, hates Velma, etc.
Pretty sure the creators of this show hate existence and all things in it.
I'm calling it now Scooby-Doo will appear in the final episode titled "The Brains of the Operation" as a Frankenstein-esque monster with a human brain from one of the murder victims implanted in a dogs body.
Cat* they/them will be a cat.
I like how you said “not since shehulk” like it was ages ago when it was like 2 months ago. 😂
Looking at grandy's history im not surprised at the horrendous writing of velma.
My favourite part of this saga is the PYSOP allegations.
Even the furry thinks they’re delusion. That says everything.
I just added the original Scooby-Doo and Hong Kong Phooey to my server aka Project Fahrenheit 451.
Maybe it's the animation style, but Daphne from the show looks like the character Kim Possible from the 2002 cartoon. The Velma show feels like a demented crossover of Scooby Doo(minus Scoob) and Kim Possible.
if kim possible was made today it would have most likely sucked
