thanks for the tips! I'm hoping to fix mine when I get home after work. If you have any issues seating and crimping those pistol loads, you might want to back off the flare on the case mouth a touch.
Check around to find a bearing washer that goes under the index plate. My biggest issue on my 650 besides blowing it up today was that the index plate screw would come undone and couldnt get the exact tension. I then added the bearing under the plate and it was the biggest upgrade Besides the kit you installed. I dont remember the exact manufacturer but can take a photo tomorrow since I have the press apart due to the primer explosion.
I've been running a 650 for almost 25 years with the stock detent ball & spring, and have never have powder spill issues. To put it in driving terms, the loose nut is the one behind the wheel... if you're getting spilled powder, you're slamming the handle too hard on the upstroke, causing the cases to jar around. You can still go fast and be very smooth with this machine.
I hate to put a damper on this idea but the only time this will stop powder spilling is if you have standard loads where the case isn't filled as much. I am currently loading 38 sp cases with TrailBoss Powder and the case is 3/4 filled with powder. Every time the case is moved before the bullet is put on, it shakes and powder is spilled out. If there is another modification that can fixed this problem with a 3/4 filled case then I would love to hear about it.
Hi Stephan; Thanks for the purchase. And the awesome endorsement. Look, drop a line. I have some other stuff just coming out, and I would sure appreciate a bit of your time if you could check them out. Thanks! Mark
I am just beginning to reload and am having the same issue of spillage. The Ebay link currently say the upgrade is out of stock. Any other ideas on where to get something like this?
Check uniquetek.com, you can get a Powder Drop bar with a micrometer. Or just get the micrometer and replace the factory screw on the powder bar. Bought 2 micrometer myself, one for the small and one for the large powder drop bars.
adjust your follower down to slow down the advancement on the shell plate. Its a timing issue. not and bearing mass problem. I use factory ball and spring with proper timing adjustment, you wont spill any powder.
I did this little upgrade to both of my XL650s too. Impressive difference it makes.

Thanks. Great video. Wonder why Dillon don't just do this at the factory?
Amazing how much difference this little kit makes!

any info if this would void the Dillon warranty?
Check out ammot bot, although not sure if they make it for the 650. Turns your machine into a automated machine

New belling dies sometimes stick.
It'll eventually stop sticking.

the bell on that brass is way too much man. gonna wear out your brass early
seriously? WTF.... Dillon can't fix this?
My thoughts exactly, considering everyone worships them I think its pretty poor engineering on their part.
